Afrobeats sensation Davido has shared key lessons from his career, emphasising that hard work and consistency are the cornerstones of his success.

In a recent interview with Okay Africa, the Nigerian superstar revealed that his passion for music runs so deep that he would still be pursuing a career in it — even if fame had never come his way.

“I hope I still have the same passion. I’d probably try again… but it depends on my age,” he said.

“If I could tell younger Davido anything, it’d be, ‘It’s going to be a long journey, many ups and downs, smiles and frowns, but you’d get there.’”

Reflecting on his growth and experience in the industry, Davido offered a piece of advice he’s come to value:.

“There’ve been ups and downs, but I’ve learned that hard work and consistency always pay off.”

He also spoke about the unique and enduring relationship he shares with his fans across the globe.

“One flex I have is that money didn’t buy us natural love from my fans. You can’t buy that type of love.”

Davido expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he has received throughout his journey, noting that the genuine affection from his followers is one of the most treasured aspects of his career.

“Their love is truly priceless and one of the most valuable parts of my journey,” he said.

NDC’s Baidoo Faces NPP’s Asumadu In Akwatia By-election

Solomon Kwame Asumadu, Bernard Baidoo

Private legal practitioner Bernard Baidoo has been elected as the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) candidate for the upcoming by-election in Akwatia in the Eastern Region.

He will be contesting the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Solomon Kwame Asumadu, who was unanimously endorsed by the party for the by-election slated for September 2, 2025.

The Akwatia seat became vacant following the sudden death of Member of Parliament for the area, the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, who is said to have suffered from cardiac arrest.

The NPP has already began campaigning in the constituency and hopes to win the seat that was occupied by them until the death of Kumi.

Vacancy

The Electoral Commission (EC) on July 30, 2025, declared the Akwatia seat vacant in line with Article 112(5) of the Constitution, which mandates a by-election when a parliamentary seat becomes vacant.

The EC, in a statement, noted that it will open nominations for individuals interested in contesting the by-election, indicating that nomination forms can be downloaded from its official website (www.ec.gov.gh) starting from July 30, 2025 through to August 13, 2025.

The statement further stated that submission of nomination forms will take place at the Denkyembour District Office from August 11 to 13, 2025, between 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm daily.

It pegged the filing fee at GH¢10,000 per candidate, while female candidates and persons with disabilities are to pay a reduced fee of GH¢7,500.

Kwame Asumadu

The NPP, on July 28, 2025, endorsed Solomon Kwame Asumadu, the Chief Executive of Owuo Mining Company, as its parliamentary candidate for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.

The Eastern Regional Chairman of the party, Jeff Konadu Addo, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Parliament, noted that the decision followed extensive stakeholder consultations, during which a proposal to organise a primary was overwhelmingly rejected in favour of a consensus-based approach.

“We commissioned research and gathered the names of all individuals who had expressed interest in contesting. After evaluating the findings, it was clear that Solomon Kwame Asumadu stood out as the most suitable candidate,” Mr. Addo said.

He pointed out that findings from the research were presented to the party’s National Council, which subsequently approved Asumadu’s candidacy.

“Today marks the official announcement of Kwame Asumadu as the NPP’s candidate for the Akwatia by-election,” he added.

Bernard Baidoo

The legal practitioner was elected as the NDC’s candidate after polling 380 votes to beat his close contender, Erasmus Ali Korney, who secured 366 votes.

Surprisingly, he defeated former Member of Parliament (MP) Henry Yiadom Boakye, whom he had represented at both the High Court in Koforidua and the Supreme Court in a case challenging the election of the late Ernest Kumi as the MP of the area. Mr. Yiadom polled 232 votes.

The lawyer was declared the winner by the regional Electoral Commission Director, Appiah Baffoe.

Genser Energy constructs new gas plant to bridge power gap

0

Ghana is on the path to energy self-sufficiency as Genser Energy develops a 200 million cubic feet per day gas processing plant in Prestea, Western Region.

Ghana currently produces 380 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, which falls short of its daily peak needs of 460 million cubic feet.

But Genser Energy’s rolled-out gas infrastructure, along with Ghana Gas’s 150 mcf/d capacity, is expected to bridge the gap between demand and supply.

Ghana, through the West Africa Gas Pipeline, imports about 80 million cubic feet daily from Nigeria to meet demands.

This arrangement is associated with high costs of processing and transmission.

The construction of another gas processing plant by Genser Energy has been hailed as the solution to meeting Ghana’s gas demands through domestic sources.

Vice President of Operations for the Natural Gas Pipeline at Genser Energy Ghana Limited, Henry Abeiku Oppong, stated, “Given the current deficit and reliance on imports, Ghana must develop greater processing capacity to fully utilise its resources. We need to become self-reliant in energy production and consumption.”

Mr. Oppong made these remarks during a lecture at KNUST about the 430-km gas pipeline that Genser Energy is designing, constructing, and preparing to operationalise from Atuabo to Kumasi.

“We have been able to build a pipeline to Kumasi that makes up the 430 kilometres, and then the energy authorities are relocating from Tema to Kumasi because they will have access to available gas, and that positions Kumasi to be the new Tema.

“You have access to a huge energy infrastructure revolution. So that’s what you can see here.

“So in the future the north can easily be linked and that could revolutionise industrialisation because we need energy to be abundant to be able to grow our energy infrastructures, positioning Ghana to increase our speed in industrialisation,” he added.

The pipeline, which forms part of a larger network, is being developed in partnership with the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) using local engineers, mostly KNUST-trained.

Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering at KNUST, Professor Francis Kemausuor, indicated KNUST’s commitment to advancing engineering excellence and sustainable energy development in Ghana.

“This lecture reflects our shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence and sustainable energy development in Ghana. And Genser Energy, whose collaboration continues to inspire innovation and practical solutions in the energy sector. As we explore the transformative potential of natural gas infrastructure, let us engage with open minds and a shared vision for fuelling Ghana’s future,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, a professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at KNUST, Professor David Quansah, says the joint initiatives aim to bridge classroom theory with real industry practice.

“We realised that it would be good and beneficial to have staff and students visiting the facilities of Genser, collaboratively implementing technical seminars and guest lecturing by Genser staff, and support for research on subjects of mutual interest.

“These interventions are not some fanciful theories but a fundamental knowledge that is critical for industry practice. You would find that pipeline diameters are not chosen at random and that what you do in fluid mechanics and compressible flow finds daily application in industry,” he said.

Under the theme “Fuelling Ghana’s Future: Engineering Excellence in Natural Gas Infrastructure Development”, the lecture is a partnership between KNUST College of Engineering and Genser Energy.

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has expressed concern over the current state of politics in Ghana, particularly the rising incidence of political violence and the dominance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

It stressed the importance of free and fair elections, devoid of violence, and called for a more inclusive and peaceful political environment where other voices and opinions would also matter.

In a statement signed by the CPP’s National Deputy Secretary, Enoch Donald Sakpa, the party highlighted challenges encountered during the recent election rerun in Ablekuma North, including inadequate resources and the presence of organised vigilante groups.

“Despite these challenges, the CPP remains hopeful and committed to promoting peace and stability in the electoral process,” it stated.

Violence

The statement stressed that violence was not a solution to political differences and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

It also underscored the importance of inclusive dialogue and the protection of all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation.

“We believe that Ghana’s hospitality, honesty, and love for forgiveness are essential values that should guide the country’s politics,” it noted.

Peace

The statement called on all Ghanaians who share in the vision of the CPP for a more peaceful and inclusive politics to join the party in promoting a culture of peace and stability, stressing that “by working together, Ghanaians can build a better future for all.”

It said the CPP’s approach to politics was rooted in promoting peace, stability, and inclusivity.

“The party’s leadership believes that this approach is essential for building a more harmonious and prosperous society, where all Ghanaians can thrive,” the statement said.- GNA

My wife wets our bed all the time and it’s getting out of hand

0

File photo of a worried man File photo of a worried man

Dear GhanaWeb,

Years ago before I got married to my wife, she never agreed to spending the night with me.

She will mostly say she wasn’t comfortable spending the night with someone she wasn’t married to.

She said her mother never tolerated that growing up.

All the men she dated before me, she never spent the night with them also.

I thought she didn’t love me enough because she was old enough to make decisions, so I wondered why sleeping in my house was a problem?

I even had to discuss this with my friend. My friend advised me to be patient with her, and that she would come around.

Not knowing, she was hiding something from me.

I’m a 38-year-old man and my wife turned 31 not long ago. We have been married for 9 years and she has had one problem that keeps going and coming.

As I speak, I am fed up and I wish she is even out of my house this minute.

Her issue is that she keeps wetting the bed. She urinates on our bed anytime she sleeps, whether day or night.

Once she is asleep, she has to urinate on the bed before waking up.

This is what she came to the marriage with, it was after marriage that she explained to me that it’s been her problem since she turned 15, and that was why she never agreed to sleep over at my end.

She hid it from me, she should have at least told me when we were dating, but she said she thought it would end once she married because her mother used to say that.

We’ve been to places to find solution but it’s always temporary.

Sometimes it lasts just a week or two then she returns to it. I’m not seeking anymore solution. I’m so done because I’ve invested a lot into helping her out but this is who she is.

She now sleeps on the floor and lays a rubber under her sheets. The children are growing and I don’t like what they have to see everyday.

I love her but this is becoming too much. We can’t even go anywhere and sleep over. Why? When I mentioned it to my mother, she said it’s laziness since we’ve done everything we were told to do.

I’m really tired, sometimes I wonder if she was cursed. Will it be fair to divorce her because of this? Am I taking things too far? I need your suggestions because I don’t know what to think anymore.

‘Can you provide my four houses in two weeks?’ – Adom-Otchere dares Martin Kpebu

0

Paul Adom-Otchere (L) and Martin Kpebu Paul Adom-Otchere (L) and Martin Kpebu

Paul Adom-Otchere has challenged private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu to substantiate claims that he owns four houses in Accra, asking him to provide evidence within two weeks.

“He said on a media platform that I have four properties in Accra and that he is going to show them. I sent him a text that, please, in two weeks, can you show the property?” Adom-Otchere revealed during an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, August 4, 2025.

The challenge follows growing public interest in the OSP’s bail conditions in the ongoing investigation into a revenue assurance contract awarded by GACL during Adom-Otchere’s tenure.

The former Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) and broadcaster was detained on July 31, 2025, for failing to meet the bail requirement of providing two landed properties as surety, a condition he said he could not meet due to his lack of landed property in Ghana.

Adom-Otchere has consistently defended his claim that he owns no estate registered in his name, despite widespread public scepticism and criticisms from Martin Kpebu.

“I have no landed property in my name, and that is easily verifiable,” he maintained.

“If a person lives in a house for 20 years and says, I don’t have landed property, why is that awkward? The house address is available, the Lands Commission is available, everyone can check,” he added.

He further pushed back against societal assumptions, suggesting that shared family property is often wrongly attributed solely to men.

“I even look at it as a bit chauvinistic… If a man and a woman live together and have a house, it is believed that it belongs to the man. But people act differently,” he said.

Martin Kpebu, speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Friday, August 1, 2025, cast doubt on Adom-Otchere’s declarations, claiming multiple sources have informed him that the broadcaster owns several properties in Accra.

“Paul telling OSP that he has no property is false… Not one, not two. There are people who are buzzing my phone, telling me they will take me to show the properties that Paul paid them money to build,” Kpebu alleged.

“He was attempting to mislead the OSP,” he added.

Kpebu argued that the OSP should not rely solely on such declarations when setting bail terms, especially in high-profile cases.

Adom-Otchere, who was later released after the Jospong Group of Companies stepped in as surety under revised bail conditions, questioned the OSP’s initial approach.

Strong public support for non-interest banking in Ghana – IFRIG research

0

A study by the Islamic Finance Research Institute of Ghana (IFRIG) has pointed to a significant public support for non-interest banking in Ghana.

In findings published last week, IFRIG stated that “88.7 percent of respondents currently use conventional banks. However, 98.4 percent expressed a willingness to patronize non-interest financial services if available, and 95.6 percent believe such services can survive in Ghana’s competitive financial landscape.

“Further, 96 percent affirm that this model has a future in the country. These are not fringe numbers, they represent a national consensus for diversification in banking choices. Awareness of non-interest banking stood at 71.2 percent,” it added.

On religious affiliation of the respondents polled from across the 16 regions, the study had 62.7 percent of the sample identified as Muslim and 35.9 percent as Christian, with traditional believers and others constituting the remainder.

Dr Shaibu Ali, Director General of IFRIG, told this reporter that national surveys of this kind were in line with a core mandate of the institution that he leads, and this is only the latest installment of research publications they have published over the last few years.

“The finance ecosystem, structured and delicate as it is, thrives on quality scientific data and for us at IFRIG, this informs that topics that we leverage on when it comes to our research works since 2020.

“In light of recent developments, where the government is actively pushing to have non-interest banking rolled out in earnest, we are happy to contribute scientific data to put the conversations in proper contest alongside our advocacy on non-interest banking,” Dr. Ali added.

IFRIG, therefore, called on major stakeholders including the Bank of Ghana, the Ministry of Finance, and other regulators to expedite the release of a regulatory framework for non-interest financial services.

“This framework should provide robust licensing guidelines, governance standards, compliance mechanisms, and capital adequacy rules. The Institute further recommends the rollout of coordinated public education campaigns to dispel myths, raise awareness, and build trust in the model,” they stressed.

About IFRIG

IFRIG is first and foremost, a research institution focused on the Islamic Banking and Finance ecosystem in the country and West African subregion.

“Our efforts currently pivoted in the area of research, advocacy and capacity building has the medium to long term aspirations of leveraging on research to usher Ghana into an incremental adaptation of Islamic finance – banking and insurance,” a post on their website read.

IFRIG’s flagship programme is the Islamic Finance International Conference (IFIC).

The annual event, since 2020, has pooled together experts from Ghana, the West African subregion and beyond to continue sharing perspectives on the importance of non-interest banking and finance for the wider socio-economic good of Ghana specifically and the global economy.

Otumfuo Denies Knowledge of Daddy Lumba’s Death After Abusua Visit to Manhyia

0

In a surprising turn of events at the Manhyia Palace, Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II reportedly expressed disbelief upon receiving news of the death of highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. The Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta, led by Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, had visited the Palace to formally inform the King of the musician’s passing—a customary rite in Asante tradition. However, Otumfuo’s response stirred public curiosity and speculation.

According to sources close to the Palace, Otumfuo stated, “I have not been informed that my son Daddy Lumba has died,” suggesting that no prior official communication had reached him before the family’s visit. This statement, made in the presence of elders and courtiers, raised questions about the timing and coordination of the announcement, especially given Daddy Lumba’s royal lineage and cultural significance.

The moment was marked by solemnity and tension, as the delegation, dressed in mourning cloth, had expected to receive the king’s blessing to proceed with funeral arrangements. Instead, Otumfuo’s declaration introduced a pause in proceedings, prompting further dialogue between the palace and the family.

Observers note that this development underscores the importance of protocol and clarity in traditional communication, particularly when it involves figures of national and cultural stature. While media outlets had widely reported Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, and tributes had poured in from across the country, the Asantehene’s statement suggests that formal notification within royal circles had not been completed.

The family has since reiterated its commitment to honoring Daddy Lumba’s legacy with dignity and adherence to custom. Plans for a candlelight vigil and funeral rites remain underway, pending further consultation with the Palace.

As the nation mourns, the incident at Manhyia serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between public mourning and traditional authority, especially when the deceased holds both cultural and royal significance.

ghana news Constitution Review Committee concludes public engagement

0

The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) has said it remains committed to a transparent, inclusive and participatory constitutional review process that reflects citizens’ aspirations and collective will.

It has, therefore, urged the public to take advantage of the remaining window to submit written memoranda to the Committee through the official CRC email: submissions @constitutionrewewgh.org.

Final session

The CRC, in a statement signed and issued by the Secretary to the Committee, Dr Rainer Akumperigya, said the committee will officially close all public engagements tomorrow (Wednesday, August 6, 2025) following scheduled consultative sessions with the Council of State and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

The statement said this formed part of its final steps in the public consultation phase.

“In light of this, the public is reminded and encouraged to take advantage of the remaining window to submit written memoranda to the committee,” it said.

It said it followed a successful conclusion of its nationwide zonal engagements across the country, with the final session held in Kumasi last Friday (August 1).

These engagements formed a crucial part of the committee’s public consultation process to gather Ghanaians’ views and proposals towards reviewing the 1992 Constitution.

Gratitude

The committee extended its profound gratitude to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for its invaluable partnership in organising the zonal engagements.

The CRC also acknowledged, with deep appreciation, the support and participation of chiefs, Tindaana, traditional leaders, regional ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and the general public whose contributions ensured the success of the engagements across the country.

Background

President John Dramani Mahama established the CRC on January 25 under the chairperson of Professor H. Kwasi Prempeh.

It is tasked to identify key areas of the Constitution that need updating to align with the country’s evolving democratic and socio-economic realities.

Its mandate involves reviewing past recommendations, engaging relevant stakeholders and suggesting reforms to strengthen Ghana’s governance system.

KIA traffic hits 3.2m; air safety centre commissioned

0

Kotoka International Airport (KIA) handled 3.2 million passengers in 2024, underscoring Ghana’s growing appeal as a regional hub for travel, investment, and tourism.

The figure reflects a surge in air traffic fueled by improving macroeconomic conditions, renewed international interest, and rising business activity.

This development, however, comes with mounting concerns over border security. According to the Chief Executive Officer of Rock Africa and Coordinator for the API/PNR project, Francis Bullen Gavor, the increase in passenger volumes includes not only tourists and investors but also individuals flagged for illicit activity.

These include drug traffickers, financial crime suspects, and persons on international watch lists.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Air Navigation System Complex and the new API/PNR Operations Centre on Monday, August 4, 2025, he stressed that current security systems are under increasing strain as border control officers are expected to manage modern threats using outdated tools.

“Last year, 3.2 million passengers passed through Kotoka International Airport. Among them were investors, tourists, and Ghanaians returning home. We would like to think that these are all legitimate businessmen or tourists, but amongst them, we had drug carriers, money moles, people whose names appear on the international watch list.

“As dedicated as our officers are, they cannot stop every trip simply because they are being asked to fight today’s crimes with yesterday’s tools. This is the reality we must confront, and in the wake of the Mid-year budget, which confirmed that Ghana’s economic recovery is gaining momentum, we should expect that the international confidence and passenger volumes into Kotoka to rise.

“That is why the ability of our border control agencies to identify persons of concern before they arrive, transit or depart is not just helpful but rather essential to protecting our national security,” he said.

The new Air Navigation Services (ANS) facility will serve as the central operational hub for delivering critical air navigation functions, ensuring the safe, orderly, and efficient movement of aircraft in both controlled airspace and at aerodromes.

This state-of-the-art infrastructure will support a full suite of aviation services, including Air Traffic Services (ATS), Air Traffic Management (ATM), Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS), Aeronautical Information Services / Aeronautical Information Management (AIS/AIM) and Meteorological Services for Air Navigation (MET).

These systems operate within a synchronised framework to manage the flow of air traffic, prevent collisions, maintain separation, and enhance operational efficiency. The facility will also support air-to-ground and ground-to-air communications, monitor aircraft movements, and facilitate the dissemination of critical aeronautical data such as NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen), flight plans, aeronautical charts, and meteorological updates necessary for flight planning and in-flight decision-making.

The ANS building will house the Multi-Agency Command Centre (MACC) —a national collaborative operations centre comprising key security stakeholders.

In addition, the facility will host the Passenger Information Unit (PIU), responsible for the implementation and operational management of the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems.

ANS functions encompass airspace management, flight procedure design, search and rescue operations (SAR), and the enforcement of ICAO-compliant global aviation standards, solidifying Ghana’s commitment to international best practices in air navigation.

How DStv can turn image hurdles into growth opportunities

0

In the world of branding, perception is everything. It is no longer shaped solely by advertising and corporate messages, but also by consumer experiences, public discourse, and how companies respond to societal expectations.

A company may have the best products or services, but if consumers view it negatively, its reputation and profits can suffer. The standoff between DStv Ghana and the Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, highlights this truth and offers a compelling case study on why perception is central to brand image and why businesses must take it seriously.

Brand perception is how consumers interpret and connect with brands based on their experiences, interactions, and information. It extends beyond what the company says about itself. It’s about what people believe and perceive it to be. Perception influences consumer purchase decisions, loyalty, and advocacy. A positive brand perception can lead to increased customer loyalty, help the brand stand out, and build recognition.

DStv Ghana vs. The Ministry: A Case of Perception Mismanagement

The Minister of Communications, Hon. Sam Gorge, on Friday, 1 August 2025, issued a directive to DStv Ghana demanding a reduction in subscription prices by 7 August 2025, citing that prices in Ghana were disproportionately high compared to other African countries. DStv responded with a letter rejecting the request, citing economic challenges. This response, however, is perceived by many as dismissive and tone-deaf. The company’s refusal to adjust its prices despite public pressure and the government’s intervention has painted DStv as indifferent to the struggles of its subscribers.

Perception Challenge and Missed Opportunity to Build Trust

DStv’s refusal to lower its subscription fees in Ghana, despite the data presented by the Minister of Communications, has fostered a perception of exploitation and inequityIt has also been perceived as defensive and out of touch, reinforcing the narrative that the company does not prioritise Ghanaian consumers. The significant pricing difference between Ghana and Nigeria depicts DStv as a company prioritising profits over fairness.

MultiChoice Ghana’s response, issued on August 3, 2025, further illustrates the pitfalls of mishandling perception. The company described the proposed price cut as “not tenable” due to a “challenging macro-economic and competitive environment”, offering counterproposals which the minister has swiftly rejected.

By prioritising economic constraints and its operational history over addressing affordability concerns, MultiChoice missed an opportunity to show empathy.

Erosion of Trust and Loyalty

The disagreement has gained momentum on social media platforms like X, where Ghanaians have voiced outrage and rallied behind the minister’s stance. The backlash has exposed a significant decline in trust towards DStv’s commitment to its Ghanaian audience. When consumers see a brand as exploitative, they are more likely to question its value and seek alternatives, even if those options are less well-known. This erosion of loyalty presents a long-term threat to DStv’s market share, especially as competitors and local broadcasters capitalise on the opportunity to position themselves as more consumer-friendly alternatives.

Strategic Lessons for Businesses

The DStv-Ghana dispute offers critical lessons for businesses on the importance of managing consumer perception to build and sustain a positive brand image.

  1. Perception Shapes Consumer Reality. Consumers might not have access to a company’s financial data or operational difficulties, but their perceptions, whether correct or not, define their reality. In DStv’s case, the perception of exploitation has eclipsed its arguments about economic pressures. Businesses must proactively address consumer concerns, even if they believe those concerns are mistaken, to avoid appearing unresponsive or uncaring. Clear communication and tangible actions, such as price adjustments or improved customer engagement, can help align perceptions with the brand’s intended image.
  2. Cultural and Local Context is Paramount. DStv’s failure to align its pricing with Ghana’s improved economic conditions has fostered a perception of insensitivity. Multinational brands must tailor their strategies to reflect local economic and cultural realities, ensuring that pricing, communication, and service delivery resonate with regional expectations. MultiChoice’s compliance with Nigerian regulators demonstrates an understanding of that market’s dynamics, but its reluctance to adapt in Ghana has fueled accusations of bias and eroded trust.
  3. Transparency and Empathy Build Trust. The Minister’s decision to publicly reveal MultiChoice’s comparative pricing across Africa is a strategic move to promote transparency and has garnered public support. In contrast, MultiChoice’s defensive approach and focus on operational issues failed to address customer concerns. Businesses should prioritise empathetic communication, recognise consumer difficulties, and offer solutions that show a genuine commitment to their well-being.
  4. Proactive Engagement Mitigates Crises. The DStv dispute escalated because MultiChoice failed to anticipate or address public discontent before it reached a boiling point. Businesses should proactively monitor consumer sentiment, especially on social media, and engage stakeholders early to prevent issues from escalating. For example, DStv could have started discussions with the Ministry or offered a modest price adjustment before the minister’s ultimatum, demonstrating responsiveness and avoiding a public standoff.

Conclusion

The DStv-Ghana dispute highlights that perception is not just a peripheral concern but a strategic asset that can make or break a brand’s reputation. MultiChoice’s failure to address pricing issues, communicate with empathy, and align with economic realities in the region turned a manageable problem into a public relations crisis. Conversely, Hon. Sam George’s emphasis on consumer advocacy and transparency strengthened his public image, demonstrating how perception can be harnessed to build trust and influence.

For DStv and other businesses, the lesson is clear: prioritising consumer perception is vital for maintaining a positive brand image. This involves proactive engagement, culturally sensitive strategies, and a commitment to transparency and fairness. In an age where social media amplifies consumer voices and regulatory oversight is increasing, businesses that neglect perception risk losing not only customers but also their position in the market. By learning from the DStv-Ghana saga, companies can turn perception challenges into opportunities to develop stronger, more trusted brands that connect with their audiences.

€2.7m project launched for displaced persons, host communities in northern Ghana

0

A €2.7 million humanitarian and development project has been launched in northern Ghana to support forcibly displaced persons and their host communities in the Upper West and Upper East Regions.

The project include building solar-powered water systems, rehabilitation of schools and health centres, and support peacebuilding efforts, to promote stability and development in affected communities.

It targets vulnerable communities at Zini in the Upper West Region and Tarikom in the Upper East Region, and also seeks to improve access to water and sanitation, housing, child protection, legal identity, and electricity. Women and children, who are often most affected by displacement are a key focus.

The two-year initiative, titled: ‘Supporting the Resilience of Forcibly Displaced People and Host Communities in Northern Ghana,’ also known as UNITE, is being implemented by UNICEF and UNHCR, with co-funding from the European Union

Mr Irchad Razaaly, speaking at the event, said the initiative affirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting both displaced persons and the communities that hosted them.

Mr Osama Makkawi Khogali, the UNICEF Representative in Ghana, outlined a series of planned health and social interventions, emphasising the dual focus on emergency response and long-term resilience.

“UNICEF will focus on upgrading healthcare facilities, training health workers, improving supply chains, and enrolling over 2,000 women and children in the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS),” he stated.

“We are also delivering gender-segregated sanitation facilities in schools and clinics to promote hygiene and dignity, especially for women and girls,” he added.

“We are leading child protection activities, including birth registration for children born outside Ghana and campaigns to prevent gender-based violence,” Mr Khogali indicated.

He also said that UNICEF was rehabilitating schools and promoting peacebuilding programmes to support both displaced persons and host communities.

Ms Needa Jehu-Mazou, the Head of UNHCR Ghana, highlighted that they would be providing climate-resilient housing and expanding access to electricity in underserved communities to ensure safe and dignified living conditions, which aligns with the broader goals of stability, equity, and cohesion.

She further stressed the importance of collecting vital socio-economic data to improve access to national services such as health, education, and livelihoods for forcibly displaced persons and host communities.

Moreover, the project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Education Service, the National Identification Authority, and local and traditional authorities. It also complements national strategies like the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion (SOCO) programme.

Currently, more than 17,000 asylum seekers and refugees, mainly fleeing violence and instability from the Sahel and Gulf of Guinea regions, reside in parts of northern Ghana.

Communities such as Zini and Tarikom have shown immense generosity in hosting displaced families, but continue to struggle with inadequate infrastructure and overstretched services gaps the UNITE project seeks to address holistically.

Funny Face Reunites with Ex-Wife Vanessa; Both Agree to Peacefully Co-Parent Their Children

0

Ghanaian comedian and actor, Funny Face, known in private life as Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng, has reconciled with his former partner, Vanessa Nicole, after years of public separation. The two, whose turbulent relationship once made headlines, have now reached a mutual agreement to co-parent their three children in a peaceful and responsible manner.

The reunion took place during a private gathering supported by family and close associates, including actor Kwaku Manu and Vanessa’s mother. TV3 Ghana reported that Vanessa, visibly emotional, forgave Funny Face during the meeting, marking what many consider a significant moment of healing and maturity. Videos from the event, now circulating on social media, have since drawn attention and praise from the public.

In a follow-up post on social media, Funny Face expressed his gratitude and joy, stating that he and Vanessa had decided to let go of the past and move forward for the sake of their children. According to GhanaWeb, he acknowledged the damage caused by their earlier conflicts and confirmed that they were both committed to ensuring a stable upbringing for their children, Ella, Bella, and Kimberly.

In an unexpected turn, their reconciliation extended beyond their personal lives to a professional setting. The two were recently seen on the set of a new Ghanaian movie titled Love Rules. GhPage reported that this marked their first joint project since their separation. Despite previous tensions, both parties displayed professionalism and mutual respect, indicating their willingness to work together again as actors and parents.

Vanessa, speaking to reporters during the film production, emphasized that their renewed relationship was built on a shared commitment to their children’s welfare. As reported by Yen.com.gh, she explained that although the romantic relationship between her and Funny Face had ended, their parental responsibilities remain, and both are determined to provide a supportive and emotionally healthy environment for their children.

This reunion comes after a period of public distress and mental health struggles for Funny Face, during which he openly expressed his pain over being separated from his daughters. TV3 Ghana and other credible media outlets have in the past covered his battles with depression, as well as his efforts to seek recovery and stability.

The public response to this development has been overwhelmingly positive. Many Ghanaians view the reunion as a powerful example of emotional growth, forgiveness, and responsible parenting. In a society where many family disputes remain unresolved, this peaceful reconciliation has been described as a hopeful sign that co-parenting, healing, and second chances are possible when both parties prioritize the well-being of their children.

“If You’re Serious, Renounce Your Title” – KSM Calls Out Rev. Fordjour for Dangerous Remarks

0

Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), host of the KSM Show, has strongly criticized Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, for remarks he believes could fuel violence in the upcoming Akwatia by-election as reported by Ghana Web.

Speaking on the July 29, 2025, edition of his show, KSM did not hold back in his condemnation of the MP, whom he referred to as an “ultimate charlatan.”

The comments in question from Rev. Fordjour allegedly warned of bloodshed if former president John Mahama didn’t address issues in Ablekuma North. KSM, visibly frustrated, stated that as a man of God, Fordjour should be promoting peace rather than inciting violence.

“How can a reverend, supposedly someone who has been ordained as a man of God, open your mouth and say something like ‘If Mahama doesn’t address the issue at Ablekuma North, there is going to be bloodshed in Akwatia?'” KSM said.

He further expressed his dismay at the increasing partisanship in Ghanaian politics, which he believes hinders the country’s progress.

He questioned how long such divisive politics would persist, criticizing leaders for prioritizing party allegiance over national development. “When do we move past this partisan nonsense, when do we build our nation?” KSM asked.

The outspoken host also challenged Fordjour to renounce his reverend title if he was serious about his controversial comments, adding that he would continue to call out pastors who promote violence under the guise of religious leadership.

President Mahama commissions Air Navigation Service system

0

President John Dramani Mahama yesterday commissioned an Air Navigation Service (ANS) system at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra to serve as key operational hub for the provision of essential air navigation services for the nation and parts of West Africa.

The new ANS facility is expected to be decoupled from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in future to ensure safe, orderly and efficient movement of aircraft in both controlled airspaces and at aerodromes.

The ANS would also offer a full suite of aviation services, including air traffic services (ATS), air traffic management (ATM), communication, navigation and surveillance (CNS), aeronautical information services/aeronautical information management and meteorological services for air navigation (MET).

These systems operate within a synchronised framework to manage the flow of air traffic, prevent collisions, maintain separation, and enhance operational efficiency.

It would also support air-to-ground and ground-to-air communications, monitor aircraft movements and facilitate the dissemination of critical aeronautical data, flight plans, aeronautical charts and meteorological updates necessary for flight planning and in-flight decision making .

The facility will host the passenger information unit (PIU), responsible for the implementation and operational management of advanced passenger information (API) and passenger name record (PNR) system

Collaboration

The President directed three ministries – Transport, Foreign Affairs and the Interior to collaborate and expedite action for the introduction of electronic visa services in the country.

“The introduction of the API and PNR systems will provide a strong digital platform on which other critical services can be integrated.

“That is why I am calling for collaboration to ensure that this platform is expanded to enable us to quickly implement the long-awaited e-visa services for the country.

“I am charging them to extend this system to cover both the sea and land border posts, integration with our e-gate systems, and the adoption of the capabilities to extend to the advanced cargo information system also for the benefit of our customs,” he said.

President Mahama said the e-visa system would ease visa application processes, reduce paperwork and bureaucracy, support tourism and make the country an even more attractive destination for business.

“The future of travel is digital, and Ghana must not be left behind. We must think beyond the Kotoka International Airport and edge in steps to integrate these systems at Terminal 2, new Kumasi International Airport, and also Tamale International Airport.

Regulatory agency

The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, said GCAA was a regulatory agency for air transport in the country and also provided air navigation services within the Accra Flight Information Region.

“In a modern and safe aviation ecosystem, clear separation of rules is essential to ensure accountability and efficiency.

One critical area is the separation of the air navigation services and the regulatory functions of the Civil Aviation Authority.

“However, this is not the case in Ghana. And that was why the President’s vision for 2012 had brought us this far.

“In line with international best practises, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority established the Air Navigation Services Agency through Act 2020, Act 1051,” he said.

He said the purpose was to put an end to the current situation where the regulator also served as a service provider, and also ensure high safety standards.

Significance

The acting Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority,  Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, said the facility was among the most technologically advanced in the aviation industry in the world, and it symbolised the nation’s bold ambition to lead in air navigation safety, innovation, and regional connectivity.

In terms of scale and sophistication, he said it was second only to a similar facility in South Africa, marking a significant milestone in West Africa’s aviation infrastructure.
“More importantly, the edifice will serve as the operational nerve centre for our national airspace, supporting the 24-hour economy and ensuring that every aircraft in our skies is guided with precision and care by our highly trained and dedicated team of professionals,” Rev. Arthur added.

GIPC gears up for up-coming Africa Singapore Business Forum 2025

0

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) is once again taking centre stage in the country’s investment drive as it prepares to join other government organisations in representing Ghana at the prestigious Africa Singapore Business Forum (ASBF) slated for August 26 to 28.

Under the strategic leadership of its forward‑thinking Chief Executive Officer, Mr Simon Madjie, the Centre has intensified its mission to attract high‑value investments, promote international trade, and align Ghana’s investment agenda with the government’s broader economic transformation policies.

Mr Madjie has implemented several bold measures to make Ghana a preferred investment destination. His vision is anchored on efficiency, innovation, and strategic positioning in the global market.

With the Africa Singapore Business Forum serving as a prime platform for forging partnerships between Africa and Asia, GIPC will be holding the fort for the government of Ghana, showcasing the country’s vast investment opportunities and competitive advantages.

A strategic platform for

Africa-Asia collaboration

The Africa Singapore Business Forum, organised by Enterprise Singapore, is recognised as the premier platform for promoting trade and business exchange between the two regions. Since its inception in 2010, it has hosted over 5,000 business and government leaders from more than 50 countries, enabling high-level discussions, networking, and investment facilitation.

The 2025 edition, scheduled for August 26 to 28 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront in Singapore, will run under the theme “Bridging Capabilities, Charting Sustainable Growth.”

The event is expected to attract over 700 delegates from across Singapore, Asia, and Africa, including policymakers, investors, and industry leaders. Participating countries include Ghana, South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Egypt, and Singapore, among others.

Key discussion areas will include Africa’s growing economic integration, the transformative role of fintech and logistics, solutions for rapid urban development, and emerging opportunities in green energy and carbon markets. Business matching sessions will be a major highlight, enabling African and Singaporean companies to explore concrete partnership and investment possibilities.

The forum comes at a time when trade between Africa and Singapore has been steadily increasing. In 2023, bilateral trade reached 12.4 billion US dollars, while Singapore’s cumulative foreign direct investments into Africa stood at 24.0 billion US dollars as of 2022. For Ghana, this platform presents a unique opportunity to attract investments that align with its development priorities.

GIPC’s bold reforms and

visionary leadership

Since assuming office, Mr Simon Madjie has introduced transformative reforms aimed at making GIPC more responsive and investor-friendly. One of his key innovations is the introduction of a 24-hour premium service to expedite investment registration and approvals. This service significantly reduces bureaucratic delays, enhances efficiency in processing investor applications, and improves service delivery to both local and international investors.

In line with Ghana’s decentralisation agenda, Mr Madjie has outlined plans to map investment opportunities in every district across the country. This data-driven approach will allow GIPC to effectively market each region’s unique economic potential to prospective investors during its sensitisation tours. To complement this, he intends to establish regional directors in all 16 regions of Ghana to oversee investment promotion activities and directly support regional ministers in marketing their territories.

Recognising the strategic value of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), the CEO is setting up a dedicated AfCFTA Desk within GIPC. This unit will coordinate the Centre’s efforts to leverage the world’s largest single market, offering Ghana a powerful advantage in attracting businesses seeking access to over 1.4 billion consumers across Africa.

Furthermore, the Centre is in the process of reviewing the GIPC Act, with the aim of transforming the institution into a full Authority. This upgrade will strengthen its mandate, operational capacity, and ability to implement investment-friendly policies more effectively.

The CEO has also proposed the creation of a dedicated investment page for all regional ministers, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry as well as other relevant agencies. This will provide regional leaders with the tools to promote their areas more effectively.

These reforms demonstrate Mr Madjie’s commitment to aligning GIPC’s operations with the government’s broader economic policies, especially in positioning Ghana as a strategic gateway to Africa for global investors.

Connecting Ghana to the world

The Africa Singapore Business Forum offers Ghana a high-value platform to showcase its readiness for large-scale investments in key sectors such as digitalisation, manufacturing, agribusiness, green energy, and sustainability. With Ghana’s stable political climate, strategic location, and active participation in AfCFTA, the country is well-placed to attract companies looking for a reliable base in West Africa.

At the forum, Mr Madjie will engage with senior government officials, leading investors, and global business executives. His mission is to present Ghana not only as an attractive investment destination but also as a competitive partner in advancing Africa-Asia trade and innovation.

Enterprise Singapore, the organisers of ASBF, has emphasised that the event will focus on building sustainable growth models for emerging economies. Singapore’s Minister in charge of Trade Relations, Ms Grace Fu, will deliver the opening address, alongside other influential speakers such as Samaila Zubairu and Stephen Jennings. Ghana’s inclusion in such high-level discussions underlines the nation’s growing importance in global investment dialogues.

The 24-Hour economy

and Ghana’s investment

drive

The concept of a 24-hour economy has been gaining attention as countries explore ways to optimise productivity, enhance service delivery, and attract international business. For Ghana, the 24-hour economy represents an opportunity to strengthen sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, tourism, and financial services by operating beyond traditional working hours.

GIPC’s 24-hour premium service for investment registration is a direct example of how this concept can be applied to improve efficiency and investor satisfaction. By ensuring that critical services are available around the clock, Ghana sends a clear message to investors that it values their time and is committed to facilitating smooth business operations.

In the context of global trade, where time zones and deadlines are critical, the 24-hour economy gives Ghana a competitive edge. It allows the country to engage seamlessly with partners across Asia, Europe, and the Americas without being restricted by local working hours. For a trade hub like Singapore, this operational readiness enhances Ghana’s attractiveness as a reliable and responsive business partner.

Looking ahead

As Ghana prepares for the Africa Singapore Business Forum 2025, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre’s leadership is ensuring that the country’s investment message is clear, compelling, and backed by action. Mr. Simon Madjie’s proactive approach, commitment to reform, and alignment with government policies place GIPC at the forefront of Ghana’s economic diplomacy.

The ASBF will not only be an opportunity to attract new investments but also a platform to strengthen long-term partnerships that can drive innovation, create jobs, and support sustainable growth. In a world where investment competition is intense, Ghana’s strategy of efficiency, regional engagement, and leveraging AfCFTA could well be the game changer that secures its position as a leading investment destination in Africa.

‘Bring Ken Agyapong and the people will give us power’ – Dr Ampaabeng

Kennedy Agyapong is one of the frontrunners of the NPP presidential primaries Kennedy Agyapong is one of the frontrunners of the NPP presidential primaries

Former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr Alex Ampaabeng has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to listen to the calls from its grassroots supporters ahead of the presidential primaries and vote for Kennedy Agyapong.

According to Dr Ampaabeng, the party’s grassroots have a clear message for the delegates; “Bring this person, and we will give you the power.”

He revealed that the individual the grassroots have been rallying behind is Kennedy Agyapong, one of the frontrunners in the party’s flagbearership race.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3 on August 5, 2025, Dr. Ampaabeng, who has openly declared his support for Kennedy Agyapong, said, “Whatever decision I’m making is not based on betrayal, it is based on the information I have gathered on the ground.”

He emphasised, “The people who sent me believe that if you bring this person [Kennedy Agyapong], they will give you the power.”

“I do believe the time is right, Kennedy is the right candidate,” he stressed.

Dr Ampaabeng also called on the party to avoid politics of insults as it prepares for this crucial leadership election.

He urged members to focus on obtaining credible information and using it strategically for the party’s benefit.

“In politics, you don’t have weapons. Your weapon is your information. How you get it, how you process it, and how you use it to strategise determines whether you succeed or fail politically,” he noted.

According to him, the information he has received from the grassroots strongly indicates that the party’s base is more likely to support the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong is selected as the presidential candidate.

Ghanaian man rejected by Ghana Army at 27 graduates as US Airman at 42

Mawuli Bruce Spetua, a former teacher in the Ho West District Mawuli Bruce Spetua, a former teacher in the Ho West District

A Ghanaian man who was reportedly rejected by the Ghana Armed Forces over a decade ago has defied the odds and graduated as an Airman First Class (A1C) in the United States Air Force at the age of 42.

Mawuli Bruce Spetua, a former teacher in the Ho West District of Ghana’s Volta Region, had long dreamed of serving his country through the military.

In 2010, at the age of 27, Bruce applied for the Army Officer’s Course in Ghana after completing his degree at the University of Cape Coast (UCC). However, his application was rejected, not due to a lack of qualifications, but because he had exceeded the age limit.

Years later, and thousands of miles away, that same dream was reignited.

On July 27, 2025, just days after his 42nd birthday and barely within the US military’s age cutoff, Spetua announced his graduation as an Airman First Class (A1C) in the US Air Force.

In a heartfelt social media post, Bruce wrote,

“It’s an honor to graduate as an Airman First Class (A1C) of the world’s most powerful space force. Glory to God in the highest, and to my Empress Enyonam Akorfa Amuzu for paving the way for me. I am forever grateful.”

According to journalist Fred Duhoe, Bruce’s journey is a powerful example of how different systems recognise and reward perseverance and potential.

“At 27, Mawuli Bruce Spetua was rejected by the Ghana Army despite holding a degree from UCC and applying for the Army Officer’s Course. His qualifications weren’t enough. Years later, at 42, the U.S. Air Force welcomed him, just days before the age cutoff,” Duhoe shared.

“With an MBA in hand and a dedicated recruiter, he excelled in training and graduated as an Airman First Class. In Ghana, his age was a barrier; in the U.S., his potential shone through,” the post added.

Lil Win Runs for Cover as Angry Kejetia Traders Cry Over Lost Goods and Money During His Movie Promo

0

Kumawood actor Lil Win has done what many celebrities often fail to do—he took full responsibility after a chaotic scene during his movie promotion ended up affecting innocent traders at the Kejetia market in Kumasi. The actor, whose real name is Kwadwo Nkansah, was out promoting his yet-to-be-released film when things got out of hand. What was meant to be a fun and exciting street procession quickly turned into confusion, with a large crowd chasing after him through the busy market area.

It wasn’t just noise or traffic the crowd caused. In the middle of all the pushing and shouting, two hardworking women who were going about their usual trading ended up losing their goods and money. The scene was unplanned and completely disrupted their workday. Their pain and frustration could not be hidden. These were not rich people. These were market women, who survive each day through small sales. And just like that, their day’s income and some of their items were gone.

Lil Win did not run away from what happened. He didn’t keep quiet or pretend he knew nothing about it. He took full responsibility for the mess. The actor personally stepped in to meet with the two women, listen to their pain, and give them financial compensation for what they lost. It wasn’t just a show. It was a real attempt to make things right. A real sign of maturity.

Many people would have blamed the crowd or blamed the organizers, but not Lil Win. He owned it. He saw what happened and knew that it was linked to his movie promotion. So, he didn’t wait for media pressure or social media noise. He acted quickly and showed leadership. His actions showed he understood that being famous comes with responsibility.

The street procession that caused the trouble was part of the energy and creativity Lil Win is known for. He wanted to pull attention to his movie and create excitement. But the response from the crowd went far beyond what anyone expected. The scramble, the rush, the noise—it became a threat to traders instead of entertainment. That’s the part that hurt the most.

What Lil Win did after the chaos is what many people are now talking about. It’s not just about making movies or making people laugh. It’s also about knowing when your actions hurt others, and finding a way to make things better. That’s exactly what he did.

The actor has shown not just his usual comic side, but a side that understands real-life struggles. By compensating the two affected women, he reminded Ghanaians that fame must be used with care, and when things go wrong, the right thing to do is take responsibility.

Tulle Outfit Styles for Ladies to Rock on Special Occasions

0

Tulle is the ultimate fabric when it comes to creating a whimsical, feminine, and effortlessly elegant look. Whether it’s a wedding, birthday, gala, or red-carpet-inspired event, tulle outfits have a way of making any lady stand out with grace and charm.

One of the most popular tulle outfit styles is the tulle skirt or ball gown. These come in varying lengths mini, midi, or floor-length making them versatile for both semi-formal and formal occasions. A floor-length tulle gown, especially in soft shades like blush, nude, or white, is perfect for weddings, bridal showers, or evening events. Pair it with a fitted corset top or lace blouse to enhance the drama and femininity.

For more casual yet stylish events like birthdays or brunches, layered tulle skirts paired with a crop top or satin blouse create a youthful, trendy vibe. Add heels or embellished flats, and you’re event-ready in minutes. For a bold twist, tulle skirts in rich colors like wine, emerald green, or navy can add depth and sophistication.

Tulle dresses are also a classic choice. A-line or fit-and-flare tulle dresses flatter most body types, especially when styled with waist belts or embroidered tops. Off-shoulder tulle dresses with beaded bodices or ruffled sleeves bring out a romantic flair suitable for dinner dates and anniversaries.

When styling tulle, balance is key—since the fabric is voluminous, pair it with fitted or structured tops. Keep accessories minimal if your outfit already has embellishments.

Tulle is no longer just for ballerinas or brides—today’s modern woman can rock it confidently for nearly any occasion. It’s the perfect mix of fairy-tale elegance and contemporary fashion.

Popular Ghanaian journalist and social commentator, Kevin Ekow Baidoo Taylor, has announced his intention to contest for the Bantama parliamentary seat in the Ashanti Region during the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on his online political show With All Due Respect on Monday, 4th August 2025, Kevin Taylor said he has returned to the United States to continue with his show on Loud Silence TV after spending some time in Ghana. During the broadcast, he revealed his political ambition and declared boldly that he is ready to enter Ghana’s Parliament.

According to him, he has the full support of many Ghanaians, especially the youth, and believes he will win any seat he chooses in the Ashanti Region. However, he made it clear that Bantama is his first choice because it is considered the biggest and most influential constituency in the region.

“I can win any seat in the Ashanti Region. I chose Bantama because it is the biggest. The only person who can stop me is Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” Kevin Taylor said during the show.

He went further to say that even if the Asantehene himself tries to stop him, he will still win, joking that Otumfuo will only beat him with just three votes. Taylor believes his influence, popularity, and love from the people will carry him through to victory in the 2028 elections.

His comments have since gone viral, sparking reactions from both his supporters and critics. While some praised his boldness and confidence, others questioned his chances in the stronghold of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This was disclosed when the family visited the Manhyia Palace to officially inform the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, of his sudden passing.

A family spokesperson explained that although Daddy Lumba, born Charles Kwadwo Fosu, was known around the world for his music, he was also a devoted father who cared deeply about his children.

“He loved all his children equally,” the spokesperson said.

“Even though they were born by different mothers, he made sure they felt his love and guidance.”

According to the family, the children are united and are expected to play important roles in the funeral rites.

The spokesperson stressed that one of Daddy Lumba’s biggest wishes was for his children to stay together after his death.

“He always said to them, ‘Don’t let fame or differences divide you. Remain one family,’” the spokesperson added.

Daddy Lumba rose to fame in the 1980s and became one of the greatest names in Ghana’s highlife music.

With more than three decades of work, he produced many hit songs and won the hearts of music lovers across the country and beyond.

Music lovers, fellow artists, and fans from around the world have shared their sadness while remembering the joy he brought through his songs.

One fan in Kumasi was heard saying, “Daddy Lumba’s music raised us. His songs will never die.”

The family, however, has asked the public to give them time and space as they prepare for the funeral.

They promised to release details of the burial and memorial services soon.

Evatex threatens to sue GACL for $64.6m over contract termination

0

Evatex Logistics Limited, the mining and stevedoring company, which was awarded an auditing and revenue assurance contract at the Kotoka International Airport, has threatened to sue the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) over the decision to terminate the contract.

Evatex has ordered GACL to withdraw the notification to terminate the contract within seven days. If GACL fails to do so, Evatex says it will proceed to court to enforce its rights, “including but not limited to its capital investments stated supra.”

A letter written by lawyers for Evatex, K-Archy & Company, stated a claim by Evatex that it has invested $64.6 million in the airport contract.

“We are instructed by our client to inform you that the purported termination is unacceptable to it, given its capital investments into this contract in the region of $64,600,000. Moreover, our client had already started executing its assignment in fulfillment of the contract and indeed prepared reports for your attention and action,” the letter stated.

The contract entitles Evatex to charge 15% of the revenue it uncovers in its auditing. The GACL has, however, stated that the company has not generated any revenue since it started operations four months ago.

Though signed in December 2024, Evatex started the implementation of the GACL contract in April 2025.

During the 2024 KPMG audit ordered by former President Akufo-Addo, Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) failed to authenticate similar claims the company had made regarding its investment in SML’s auditing and revenue assurance contracts with the government.

The CEO of Evatex, Evans Adusei, is also the CEO of Evatex. He owns both companies.

Evatex contract termination

A letter dated July 8, 2025, and signed by the Managing Director of the GACL, Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, had given Evatex Logistics a one-month notice for the termination of the contract.

The termination notice was served amidst investigations that revealed many legal breaches, including the procurement act, which experts say renders the contract void.

The investigation carried out by Evans Aziamor-Mensah, Adwoa Adobea-Owusu, and Manasseh Azure Awuni has revealed that Evatex Logistics Limited had no capacity to enter or deliver the contract it secured from the GACL under questionable circumstances.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has also started an investigation into the scandal and has arrested several officials, including the former board chairman of the GACL, Paul Adom-Otchere.

Evatex and SML not qualified to perform auditing and revenue assurance

A procurement expert, Kobina Ata-Bedu, has revealed that Evatex and SML should not qualify for audit and revenue assurance contracts without a license from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG).

In a right to information request to ICAG, the three reporters asked about “the position of ICAG Act 2020, Act 1058, regarding individuals and companies providing revenue assurance and auditing services in Ghana. Are such companies required to be licensed by the ICAG before they can practice or provide such services?”

The ICAG in a response letter dated July 25, 2025, said: “Pursuant to sections 2 and 3 of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana Act, 2020 (Act 1058), the Institute is mandated to regulate the accountancy profession and practice in Ghana. Auditing and non-audit practice, as an essential component of the accountancy profession, fall within the regulatory oversight of the Institute. In line with section 34 of Act 1058, all individuals and firms engaged in auditing activities are required to be licensed by the Institute. Failure to obtain the requisite licence constitutes an offence and attracts sanctions, including a fine, a term of imprisonment or both.”

On the licence status of Evatex and SML, the ICAG said, “Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) and Evatex Logistics Limited are not licensed by ICAG.”

A search at the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) revealed that at the time of winning the contract at the airport, Evatex did not even have auditing and revenue assurance as part of its principal activities. Evatex only included “audit, revenue assurance, and software solutions” in its principal activities on February 6, 2025, three months after winning the airport contract to perform those services.

A tax clearance certificate and a Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) clearance certificate, which Evatex used for the single-sourced contract, shows what appeared to be a dormant company resurrected only for the Airport contract.

The SSNIT document showed that the company had no workers in 2022 and 2023. In the first four months of 2024, the year it won the contract, Evatex has no workers. By August, when the company applied for a SSNIT clearance certificate, it had only one worker.

The tax clearance certificate also showed that Evatex had no chargeable income for 2022, 2023 and 2024, the year it won the contract. The company did not pay tax in 2022 and 2023.

In 2024, it was charged a tax of only GHS2000, out of which it paid GHS1000.

The EVatex contract, which has become the subject of investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor, was awarded three days before the 2024 election, but dates on contract documents show that the contract may have been backdated.

The GACL, which is being investigated for the Evatex contract, also made false claims to secure a PPA approval to use the single-source procurement method for the contract. In the letter requesting approval for the single source, the GACL claimed that Evatex had “a long and successful track record of carrying out similar assignments expeditiously.” This claim is not backed by any evidence, as the Devnest CEO’s letter urging the award of the contract to Evatex would later reveal, but the PPA approved.

The GACL letter did not even state a single reason why the contract should be awarded through single-source procurement, and not through competitive tendering, contrary to the PPA rules. But the PPA approved without any question.

The request letter to the PPA, signed by Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, also stated: “Details in respect of the Team Composition, technical expertise and CVs of the proposed Team are in the attached profile (Annexe C).” They said Annexe C did not contain the team composition, technical expertise, and CVs of the proposed Team. The PPA did not raise questions but approved.

That Annexe C was still blank even in the final contract between Evatex and GACL, because Mrs. Yvonne Opare said at the time of signing the contract, Evatex had failed to submit the list of the team members.

Evatex and SML links

The investigation led by Manasseh Azure Awuni revealed that Evatex Logistics Limited is linked to SML, the company that was paid US$141 million by the government for auditing and revenue assurance contracts with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of Finance.

At the time of the three journalists’ first exposé on SML, the former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, had caused the SML deal to be expanded to the upstream petroleum sector and gold mining sector, entitling the company to more than US$100 million a year for five years, subject to another five-year renewal.

While the SML contract came under intense scrutiny and multiple investigations, the company entered the Ghana Airport Company through its subsidiary, Evatex, to perform what it termed ‘revenue assurance services’. Evatex, which did not officially bid for the contract and did not appear before the GACL board for a presentation, was selected under circumstances that the Executive Director for the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, Ben Boakye, describes as bizarre.

Our investigations revealed that the email address on the website of Evatex—[email protected]— is the same as the email address on the website of Evans Timbers Limited, the parent company of SML.

A search at the Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) also revealed that SML and Evatex, the mining company that won the airport contract, have the same beneficial owner, Evans Adusei. As stated earlier, Evans Adusei is both the CEO of SML and Evatex. He signed the Evatex contract with the Ghana Airports Company and the SML auditing and revenue assurance contracts.

The list of employees submitted by Evatex to the Ghana Airports Company to execute its contract contains the names of notable SML employees and managers. Apart from SML’s CEO, SML’s head of engineering, Hamdam Abubakar, is on the Evatex list.

SML’s head of IT, Prince Opoku Sarpong, is also on the list to perform the Evatex contract at the airport.

A former head of Legal at the GRA, Philip Jude Mensah (now an SML employee) witnessed the Evatex contract with the Ghana Airports Company. He is on the Evatex list, together with a former Commissioner of Customs and now General Manager of SML, Isaac Crentsil.

In essence, SML, which now appears to be a post-retirement destination for top GRA employees, sneaked into the airport as Evatex.

“It clearly tells you that they [SML] admit that they have been doing things wrong and they don’t have the confidence to go bidding or working with the same company,” the Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Energy Policy, Ben Boakye, said of SML.

“If they were genuinely convinced that what they are doing is generating returns,” Mr Boakye added, “I don’t see why you would rather metamorphose into another company to go bid for another government project.”

Backdated contract?

A close examination of the contract documents relating to the Evatex procurement shows inconsistencies in the dating of key actions, raising concerns that the contract may have been backdated. The PPA approval letter was dated December 2, 2024 and received by the Managing Director (MD) of the Airports Company on December 3.

The MD forwarded the PPA approval letter to the GACL’s Director of Procurement dated December 11, with a handwritten instruction to “proceed with the award letter.”

That instruction was received by the Director of Procurement on December 12, and the award letter was drafted accordingly and returned to the MD for signature.

The award letter, which was prepared in response to the December 11 instruction, was dated December 5, predating both the instruction and the procurement director’s receipt.

The contract with Evatex was also dated December 4, even though it was signed following the December 11 instruction.

The Managing Director, Yvonne Opare, said the dates could be a mistake, but there is evidence that appointments and contracts signed after an election often face serious scrutiny when a new party wins the election.

By December 11, when the Managing Director made a note on the PPA approval to the procurement director, the opposition NDC had won the election, and the new government was likely to raise questions about contracts awarded after the election.

Old Photos of Daddy Lumba & First Wife Akosua From Their Youth Resurface, Stirring Emotions Online

Daddy Lumba, Akosua Serwaa, Kumasi, East Legon, Germany, LumbaOld photos of Ghanaian highlife legend Daddy Lumba and his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, have surfaced online, rekindling memories of the couple’s early life together in Germany.

The rare images, which have sparked nostalgic reactions across social media, show the young couple enjoying joyful moments in their youth, long before fame and fortune found the iconic musician.

Akosua Serwaa returned to Ghana in early August 2025 with her four children to mourn the passing of Daddy Lumba. Her emotional appearance at his East Legon residence drew public attention and reignited interest in her little-known yet significant role in Lumba’s life and career.

In one of the resurfaced images, Daddy Lumba and Serwaa are seen beaming with happiness, their youthful faces reflecting the strong bond they once shared.

Another photo features Akosua Serwaa with her mother, Abena Adoma, both looking elegant and composed. The couple met and married in Germany in the early 1980s, and Serwaa was instrumental in launching Lumba’s music career.

She is widely credited with supporting the production of his debut studio album, Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu, and helping him navigate the early challenges of his musical journey.

Despite staying largely out of the public eye, Serwaa’s contributions have always been acknowledged by Lumba in interviews and public speeches.

Though the couple eventually separated and Lumba remarried, Akosua Serwaa remained in Germany to raise their children. Her return to Ghana after his death has been marked by deep mourning, with videos showing her tearfully singing his 1992 hit Owuo Atu Me Dunsini at his residence.

As part of traditional widowhood rites, the family’s abusuapanin presented her with a bottle of schnapps in recognition of her status as Lumba’s first wife.

Many Ghanaians, especially younger fans unfamiliar with Serwaa, have since begun to appreciate the vital role she played in the late musician’s life.

The emergence of these photos and her public mourning have reignited respect and sympathy for Akosua Serwaa, with fans calling for her to be given due recognition during Lumba’s funeral proceedings.

A historic photograph featuring Emmanuel Adama Mahama, father of current President John Dramani Mahama, alongside Queen Elizabeth II has emerged on social media, capturing a significant moment from Ghana’s early independence era.

The rare image, reportedly taken during Queen Elizabeth II’s state visit to Ghana in 1961, shows Emmanuel Mahama in his capacity as Member of Parliament for West Gonja constituency. The photograph has garnered considerable attention online, offering a glimpse into Ghana’s diplomatic history during the early years of independence.

Emmanuel Adama Mahama served as a parliamentary representative during a crucial period in Ghana’s political development under President Kwame Nkrumah’s administration. His meeting with the British monarch represents the cordial relations maintained between Ghana and the United Kingdom following independence in 1957.

The 1961 royal visit was historically significant, coming at a time when Ghana was establishing its position as a leading voice in African independence movements. Queen Elizabeth II’s visit demonstrated the Commonwealth ties that continued between the two nations.

The surfacing of this photograph has sparked nostalgic conversations about Ghana’s political heritage and the Mahama family’s long-standing involvement in the country’s governance. It serves as a reminder of the diplomatic relationships that shaped Ghana’s early post-independence trajectory and the political legacy that spans generations in Ghanaian politics.

A Beautiful Blend of Cultures

0

Fashion is a universal language, and when it brings different cultures together, the result is truly stunning. Two outfits that stand out for their elegance and tradition are the Japanese kimono and African Asoebi lace. Both are rich in cultural meaning and beauty.

The kimono is a traditional Japanese garment known for its graceful design, wide sleeves, and beautiful fabrics. Today, designers create fancy kimonos in bright colors, floral prints, and even modern fabrics like silk and chiffon. Many young women wear them for weddings, parties, and photoshoots, adding a modern twist to a classic outfit. Kimonos are now styled with belts, heels, or even worn over jeans as a fashionable layer.

On the other hand, Asoebi lace is a beloved part of African, especially Nigerian and Ghanaian, fashion. Asoebi means “family cloth” in Yoruba, and it’s usually worn by groups of people during special events like weddings or funerals. The lace fabric is colorful, detailed, and luxurious. Women often sew it into stylish dresses, gowns, skirts, or blouses, matching it with headwraps called gele.

Today, fashionistas are blending these two styles to create something unique. You might see a kimono made from Asoebi lace, or a lace dress with kimono-style sleeves. This fusion represents creativity, unity, and a celebration of cultural pride.

Whether you’re attending a traditional event or just love dressing up, fancy kimono and Asoebi lace styles offer endless inspiration. They show that fashion can be both modern and meaningful, connecting us to our roots while allowing us to shine.

Theresa Abebrese’s Family Reveal How Daddy Lumba Betrayed Her

0

Theresa Abebrese’s family has come forward to deny allegations that she was forcibly married off to a wealthy man, as claimed by Mama Acheampong, Daddy Lumba’s godmother.

According to Theresa’s relative, the real story is that Daddy Lumba betrayed Theresa by marrying another woman, Akosua Serwaa, while in Germany.

This revelation comes after Daddy Lumba’s passing, which has brought back memories of his tumultuous relationship with Theresa.

Daddy Lumba and Theresa Abebrese had a deep connection, having met in high school. Theresa supported Lumba’s music career and even funded his trip to Germany. However, the relationship ended when Lumba married Akosua Serwaa in Germany, while Theresa allegedly remained in Ghana.

Mama Acheampong’s account of the situation claims that Theresa’s father married her off to a wealthy man despite sponsoring Daddy Lumba’s trip to Germany. According to her, Lumba was heartbroken and released songs subtly targeting Theresa’s husband.

However, Theresa’s family denies these claims, stating that Lumba’s betrayal was the real reason for the breakup. The controversy surrounding their relationship has resurfaced after Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025.

Throughout his career, Lumba often spoke highly of Theresa and dedicated songs to her, showcasing their deep connection. Theresa Abebrese passed away in 2017, and Lumba’s recent death has brought renewed attention to their story.

The differing accounts of their relationship highlight the complexities of their past. While Mama Acheampong’s claims suggest a narrative of betrayal and heartbreak, Theresa’s family presents a different perspective.

As the story continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the public will perceive the relationship between Daddy Lumba and Theresa Abebrese.

Speaker commends MPs for consensus-building as House adjourns sine die

0

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has lauded Members of Parliament (MPs) for the spirit of consensus-building and bipartisanship that characterised the second meeting of the first session of the Ninth Parliament.

In a closing address read on his behalf by the First Deputy Speaker and MP for Akatsi South, Bernard Ahiafor, the Speaker commended the House for its collective commitment to national development despite political differences.

“This meeting has demonstrated what is possible when we work together, transcending partisan interests to serve a better good,” he said.

Mr Bagbin urged members to carry forward the spirit of national unity and public service that had defined the session, stressing that parliament was not a courtroom but a political institution built on deliberations, negotiations and consensus building.

Output

The meeting, which spanned May to August 2025, recorded 43 sittings, during which the House passed eight out of 13 bills laid before it. Key among them were the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days (Amendment) Bill, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Bill, and the University for Development Studies Bill.

Parliament also approved the nomination of seven Supreme Court Justices and four deputy ministers, vetted by the Appointments Committee. A total of 497 questions were filed, with 297 answered—comprising 242 oral and 55 urgent questions—signifying robust oversight over the Executive.

The House ratified international agreements, adopted business statements and considered various reports and instruments, including 131 timber utilisation contracts and 11 Auditor-General’s reports.

Challenges, recess

While celebrating achievements, the Speaker also called attention to challenges, notably the sudden death of the Akwatia MP, Ernest Kumi, and violent incidents during the rerun of the Ablekuma North parliamentary elections.

He called for discussions on improved healthcare for MPs and reforms to uphold electoral integrity.

As Parliament adjourned, Mr Bagbin reminded members that the recess was not a vacation but a return to their constituents.

He urged them to use the period to reconnect with the people, undertake field oversight and deepen the country’s democratic governance with renewed purpose and a spirit of service.

Achievements

In his closing remarks, the Majority Leader and MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, enumerated the government’s aggressive approach to combating illegal mining (galamsey), reporting significant actions like arresting 1,345 miners, seizing 425 excavators and holding over 1,000 excavators at ports.

He emphasised a coordinated effort to monitor excavator importation, requiring justification for their use and implementing tracking systems.

The Majority Leader also cautioned the minority against using parliament to undermine investigative agencies lawfully executing their constitutional mandates in response to the minority’s claims that the government was targeting individuals over political affiliations.

“I think that it is a height of hypocrisy for us to enact such fine laws, establish those institutions and when they are exercising their responsibilities and their mandates, we sit in this house and criticise them and try to undermine them in the exercise of their legitimate duties,” he said, urging aggrieved persons to seek redress at the appropriate institutions.

Criticism

The Minority Leader and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, in his remarks, criticised the government for what he described as growing authoritarian tendencies and a failure to uphold democratic and economic justice.

He urged an end to bitterness, revenge and selective persecution, stressing the need for national unity.

“It is time to end the bitterness, the revenge and the pain.

We are a country of one people.

If the House will continue to dictate to the government, so be it. But we live to see,” the Minority Leader said.

A sharp critic of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Paul Adom-Otchere, has given the current John Dramani Mahama administration a thumbs up for performing reasonably well in power.

According to him, even though it is early days yet for the government, its performance has not been abysmal.

Speaking on the “Point of View” show on Channel TV, Adom-Otchere noted that despite his reservations about specific policies, the government’s overall performance has been commendable.

He said, “So far, I think it’s early, but in terms of his optics, I think it’s fine,” adding that “all the micro indicators are coming up strong”.

He argued further that when a new government is elected into office, it spends what he called “inheritance” from the previous government and therefore called for more time for the government in terms of the economy.

“In terms of economic performance, I think we need to give him [Mahama] a bit of time, but certainly the optics are correct, and certainly he was popularly elected,” he stated.

Businessman charged with GH¢490,600 theft appears in court

A Nigerian businessman has appeared before the Dansoman Circuit Court for allegedly embezzling GH¢490,600 belonging to his employer.

Desmond Theke, charged with stealing, pleaded not guilty.

He is accused of misappropriating funds belonging to Mr. Solomon Okechukwu, a dealer in bales of secondhand clothing.

The court granted Theke bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties, one of whom must justify with title deeds equivalent to the bail amount.

Theke was also ordered to deposit his Ghana Card at the court registry and report to the Police every two weeks until further notice.

Chief Inspector Emelia Mensah, the prosecutor, was directed to file all disclosures and witness statements ahead of the Case Management Conference scheduled for August 25, 2025.

The court noted that the matter, being a felony, could not be referred to Alternative Dispute Resolution, though the parties may attempt an out-of-court settlement.

According to the prosecution, Okechukwu, a Nigerian businessman operating in Accra, Togo, and other African countries, employed Theke in 2024 as a salesperson to manage his Accra operations.

In the same year, Okechukwu imported two 40-footer containers of secondhand clothes and entrusted them to Theke for sale.

He also sent additional funds to Theke to purchase goods for the shop.

On June 11, 2025, the complainant visited Ghana for stocktaking, but Theke allegedly failed to account for the goods and funds.

The matter was reported to the Dansoman Police, and Theke was arrested the same day.

During investigations, both parties were advised to engage a professional auditor or third party to reconcile accounts and stock.

On June 16, 2025, they submitted a document indicating GH¢490,600 as the amount embezzled.

The document was signed by both parties and witnesses and has since been filed on the case docket.

Ghanaian gospel musician Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko has called on President John Dramani Mahama, lamenting severe economic hardship and neglect after supporting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in past elections.

In a video message that has since gone viral, Evangelist Akwasi Nyarko expressed frustration over his current living conditions, stating that he has gone without food for three days and is unable to pay his child’s school fees.

“President Mahama, it seems you’ve forgotten about me. I composed a campaign song for you. I’m hungry, I haven’t eaten in 3 days because I have no money. My child has dropped out of school because I can’t afford the fees,” he said.

The gospel artiste, who is widely known for his powerful worship songs and public endorsement of the NDC, particularly in the Ashanti Region, claims that his political involvement has affected his career negatively.

“I’m not getting shows because I sang and campaigned for the NDC in the Ashanti Region. Please come to my aid; don’t let me die like Daddy Lumba and Dada KD,” he added.

“Please, I am hungry, come and help me,” he pleaded.

Video Captures Moment Soldiers Allegedly Sent by Ibrahim Traoré Storm Lil Win’s Event

News Hub Creator6h

A recent video has surfaced showing a group of masked men, allegedly sent by Burkina Faso’s interim President Captain Ibrahim Traoré, storming the set of Ghanaian actor Lil Win’s upcoming biopic, Captain Ibrahim Traoré: The Last African Hero. The incident has raised questions about the extent of political influence on creative expression in West Africa.

In the footage, the masked men arrive on motorcycles and confront the film crew, demanding they cease production. Lil Win claims that the men were upset about his portrayal of certain leaders in the film and alleged attempts to bribe him to halt the project. A scuffle ensued, leading to property damage at the filming location. The assailants fled when Lil Win attempted to contact local authorities .

The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the intersection of politics and the arts in Africa. While some view the disruption as an attempt to suppress free expression, others argue that it highlights the challenges faced by filmmakers tackling sensitive political subjects.

Despite the setback, Lil Win has expressed his determination to complete the film. He reassured fans that sufficient footage had been captured to proceed with editing and potential release on platforms like YouTube .

The controversy surrounding the film has drawn attention to the broader implications of state interference in the arts. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen how it will influence future productions and the creative freedoms of artists in the region.
