Akosua Serwaa returned to Ghana in early August 2025 with her four children to mourn the passing of Daddy Lumba. Her emotional appearance at his East Legon residence drew public attention and reignited interest in her little-known yet significant role in Lumba’s life and career.
In one of the resurfaced images, Daddy Lumba and Serwaa are seen beaming with happiness, their youthful faces reflecting the strong bond they once shared.
Another photo features Akosua Serwaa with her mother, Abena Adoma, both looking elegant and composed. The couple met and married in Germany in the early 1980s, and Serwaa was instrumental in launching Lumba’s music career.
She is widely credited with supporting the production of his debut studio album, Yɛɛyɛ Aka Akwantuo Mu, and helping him navigate the early challenges of his musical journey.
Despite staying largely out of the public eye, Serwaa’s contributions have always been acknowledged by Lumba in interviews and public speeches.
Though the couple eventually separated and Lumba remarried, Akosua Serwaa remained in Germany to raise their children. Her return to Ghana after his death has been marked by deep mourning, with videos showing her tearfully singing his 1992 hit Owuo Atu Me Dunsini at his residence.
As part of traditional widowhood rites, the family’s abusuapanin presented her with a bottle of schnapps in recognition of her status as Lumba’s first wife.
Many Ghanaians, especially younger fans unfamiliar with Serwaa, have since begun to appreciate the vital role she played in the late musician’s life.
The emergence of these photos and her public mourning have reignited respect and sympathy for Akosua Serwaa, with fans calling for her to be given due recognition during Lumba’s funeral proceedings.
