‘If you think I’m arrogant, that’s your problem’ – former MP for Subin tells critics

Former Subin MP, Eugene Boakye Antwi Former Subin MP, Eugene Boakye Antwi

Former Member of Parliament for Subin, Eugene Boakye Antwi, has said he is unable to do much about the perception among a section of the public that he is arrogant.

The outspoken politician categorically denied being arrogant, adding that people unfortunately misconstrue his forthrightness as arrogance.

The former lawmaker made these remarks during an interview on Adom TV’s Bedwam show on Friday, May 2, 2025.

The show host posed the question: “Let me ask you this, and I know you’ve heard it before—some people claim you are arrogant and disrespectful.”

Eugene Boakye Antwi responded: “That is their own problem; I can’t help it. You’ve dealt with me—you know that I am not arrogant. Maybe the way I come across makes some people uncomfortable. What didn’t they say about Akufo-Addo? What didn’t they say about Victor Owusu? You know me a bit, you talk to me—am I someone who is arrogant? How would such an arrogant person stand for election and be voted into office by the good people of Subin?”

He added: “If people disagree with you, they will find faults. I’ve been coming to this station for over ten years—I still have your numbers on my phone. You can recognize an arrogant person by the way they conduct themselves. So if someone accuses me of being arrogant, I can’t help what people think.”

Meanwhile, Eugene Boakye Antwi has announced his intention to contest for the General Secretary position of the party when internal elections are held.

MTN Ghana races to localise MoMo arm ahead of regulatory deadline

0

MTN Ghana is moving swiftly to restructure its mobile money business to comply with a key regulatory requirement imposed by the Bank of Ghana.

Under the Payment Systems and Services Act, companies operating as dedicated electronic money issuers are required to have a minimum of 30% Ghanaian ownership. MTN’s mobile money subsidiary, MobileMoney Ltd (MML), currently falls short of this threshold and faces a June 13, 2025 deadline to comply — or risk severe regulatory sanctions, including a potential shutdown of the MoMo business.

In a circular to shareholders dated April 30, 2025, MTN Ghana (Scancom PLC) announced that it will dissolve MML and transfer its assets, operations, and staff to a newly incorporated local entity named New FinCo.

A trust will be established to hold a 32.13% stake in New FinCo on behalf of Ghanaian minority shareholders, mirroring their current interest in Scancom PLC. The remaining 67.87% will be held by the MTN Group.

The reorganisation — referred to as the “MML Localisation” — will take place in two phases. The first phase, which focused on achieving 30% Ghanaian ownership at the parent company level (Scancom PLC), was completed in 2024 through trades on the Ghana Stock Exchange. The second phase involves a legal merger between MML and New FinCo. The success of this merger is contingent on several approvals, including from the Bank of Ghana, the courts, creditors, employees, and the Chief Labour Officer.

MTN Ghana is positioning the move as not just a regulatory necessity but a strategic realignment that will safeguard the future of its MoMo business.

The company also hinted at plans to list New FinCo on the Ghana Stock Exchange within the next three to five years, giving minority shareholders a chance to directly trade in the new entity.

Shareholders have been invited to an Extraordinary General Meeting on May 21, 2025, to be briefed on the localisation structure, although no vote will be taken at this stage.

Kwesi Yankah: JM, touch not the anointed

0

This is the time of year true friends check on each other and find out their ‘how far’ as they say. Completely absent-minded I called my nephew Eric and said I was on my way to his office only to be told.

‘I am no longer at the Ministries. I have been Reset, and currently at home.’ The word Reset, originally well intended has acquired such a bad odor, people take to their heels hearing reset drums in the neighborhood.

Labor Day greetings are tricky; you never know whether your neighbor is grinning to celebrate his new job; or on a Labor Day, groaning to cope with labor pains.

While scanning various cases countrywide I came across the biggest reset this Labor week: the nation’s Chief Justice who should normally be settling labor disputes, has herself been reset to idle at a Departure Lounge. School children have been told Justice Gertrude is only under suspension.

Among adults, it is known she is at the Departure Lounge. A successor has already been named, nicknamed as ‘Acting.’

But he was last seen dancing in church and thanking the good Lord for kind mercies. For those who knew the youthful days of His Lordship Baffoe-Bonnie, his recent ‘dance moves’ betray his past as an Okpo mate of Mensah Sarbah Hall.

For security reasons, however let me say the good old Justice was well behaved in his student days. Our worry being that if appointed, his date of birth entitles him to only a one-and-half-year tenure as Chief Justice, and those ready with welcome greetings should be prepared to add, ‘Farewell, brand new Chief Justice.’

It is notable however that Getty’s suspension and planned sendoff, has brought several concerned groups to their feet, looking desperately for any grave sins she committed. For once a public opinion poll hurriedly concocted by a mercenary pollster reports a 70% public approval of Her Lordship’s dismissal. That was perhaps inspired by an imaginary mandate in the Constitution such as: ‘The Chief Justice shall be removed by a swift opinion poll across the nation;’ clearly an irrational attempt to trivialize the fourth highest position of the Land.

Unpersuaded, civil society groups are up in arms this week to save the neck of Justice Gertrude Torkonoo, and preserve the dignity of the judiciary: the almighty Trade Union Congress, the Minority in Parliament, the Ghana Bar Association, and others. These are flying protest flags ready to hit the streets to avert a national disgrace. Together with one dissenting voice on the Council of State, the clarion call is ‘JM, Touch not the Anointed.’

The reasons are not hard to find. Justice Gertrude is on record as Ghana’s third Female CJ since independence. Should the axe fall, she would be the first dismissed CJ since 1963, when Nkrumah booted out His Lordship Justice Ako Korsah for acquitting suspects in a major murder trial.

The Second and Third Republics saw no such dismissal; and here comes this setback as Ghana’s democracy deepens and the 4th Republic hits the 33rd milestone.

The planned ousting amounts to terrorism on womanhood, the vulnerable, the judiciary, and a stain on that vision that has gifted Ghana the first female Vice President.

Since independence in 1957, Ghana has produced only 12 females out of a total of 89 justices of the Supreme Court, a dismal 13.5% female participation; and here comes this fresh wound meant to humiliate a 62-year old Chief Justice, and mother.

My own lay experience of a judicial disaster that would have triggered a dismissal was 1995: the historic drama on the appointment of Justice I. K. Abban as Chief Justice. The renowned Abban, earlier reputed as a stubborn Electoral Commissioner, received a baptism of fire when as CJ he erroneously jailed a newspaper columnist inserting a new page in his judgment, to balance the equation. The GBA was up in arms challenging Abban’s appointment due to a proven lack of integrity. Happily, my ubiquitous pen chronicled the event those days. Listen to my write hand, February 1995.

‘At the time of departure, the Ghana Bar Association was feverishly looking for red bands with which to bury Justice Abban as Chief Justice. They were going on a sympathy strike in support of the jailed columnist, Mensa Bonsu, and to boycott the courts.

If Abban is watching, he must have realized that he has mounted a throne which may turn out to be more problematic than the Veep’s. The real drama, however, will start if the GBA decides to take the Chief Justice to court.’

Yes the GBA took the matter to court, but failed to have the CJ removed.

The current attempt based on more trivial allegations should fall on deaf ears if Ghana seeks a respectable judiciary. Our President Mahama currently treads on slippery grounds and will not be spared by posterity should he opt to humiliate womanhood to consolidate power. There is every good reason guidelines in the formation of public committees are carefully worded. The golden clause, ‘at least one of whom must be a woman,’ is not a mere cliché. But Justice Torkonoo an astute Judge with formidable credentials is not simply ‘one of whom.’

Listening to a public lecture she gave at a Central University event last year, was breath of fresh air. As child of a teacher she experienced elementary education on various turfs: Tema, Suhum, Winneba, Ajumako, and being a whiz kid, skipped P5. To seal it all, Gertrude attended Motown.

Ask the sages, how many homes ever survived that flippantly sold off the Mother Hen?

Hands off Gertrude.

NPP’s Thank You Tour exposing lingering anger, pain within party – Theo Acheampong

0

Dr. Theo Acheampong

Political risk analyst and economist Dr. Theo Acheampong has observed that the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing “Thank You Tour” has revealed deep-seated frustration and resentment among party members.

According to him, this signals unresolved tensions within its ranks.

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Acheampong noted that despite the tour’s intended purpose of appreciating supporters after the 2024 elections, the interactions have instead highlighted lingering discontent—both at the grassroots and leadership levels.

According to Acheampong, the visible friction during the tour, led by Vice President and NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, suggests that many party members remain unhappy with how the party managed national affairs while in power.

“What we are seeing at the top also shows that there is still pain and anger among the hierarchy and the grassroots,” he said. “They are not happy with the way state affairs were managed, and this fundamentally affected the party’s fortunes.”

Acheampong pointed to recent developments, including a now-deleted social media post by Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, hinting at a possible future leadership bid, as evidence of internal divisions.

“The fact that other people are even suggesting a run shows me that there’s still a lot of anger and pain,” he explained. “They want change, but the change needed isn’t about religion or superficial fixes—it’s about addressing the core issues that led the party to opposition.”

The analyst stressed that the NPP must take responsibility for its shortcomings rather than merely appealing for unity.

“They have to own up. They have to apologize to Ghanaians, not just their party people,” he insisted, referencing earlier warnings from figures like former Speaker Prof. Mike Ocquaye about the party’s trajectory.

The tensions surfacing during the tour raise questions about the party’s cohesion ahead of future elections. If unaddressed, Dr Acheampong suggested, the discontent could weaken the NPP’s ability to regroup effectively.

CJ’s Suspension: No legal merit in GBA’s resolution

0

Private legal practitioner, Justice Abdulai has publicly distanced himself from a resolution by the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) which condemned the suspension of Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo, describing the resolution as meritless and irrelevant to Ghana’s constitutional processes.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, May 3, Justice Abdulai intimated “I was not part of the 47 that voted for the resolution, that I can confidently say with certainty. I completely disagree with the resolution and every single letter in the passed resolution.”

Although acknowledging that he may be bound by the collective nature of the Bar Association’s decision, Abdulai firmly rejected any personal endorsement or support for it.

“I may be bound because it is a collective decision, and so I may be bound with the content of it, but I will never, under any circumstances, advance any argument in its favour or even attempt to subscribe to the resolution. Because it is completely wrong,” he noted.

He further questioned the relevance of the GBA’s position, asserting that it has no real impact on the matter at hand.

“I do not find any merit in the argument being made by the Association. It has no bearing on the decision that has been made by the Council of State or the executive.” he said.

He further called for reform within the GBA.

“I think we can evolve and do better as an Association, then make ourselves more relevant to the body politic of Ghana.”

The Ghana Bar Association on April 29 called for the immediate revocation of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo’s suspension, labelling the action unconstitutional and without legal foundation under the 1992 Constitution.

However,  Justice Abdulai has questioned both the substance and significance of the GBA’s intervention.

NPP’s ‘Thank You Tour’ is Bawumia’s desperate attempt to revive his political career – Sammy Gyamfi

0

The National Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has criticised the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) ongoing nationwide tour.

He described it as a calculated and “desperate effort by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to revive his political career following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.”

Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile on Saturday, Mr. Gyamfi dismissed the NPP’s characterisation of the tour as a “thank you” gesture to supporters. According to him, the tour lacks sincerity and is simply a veiled campaign strategy intended to rebrand the former Vice President ahead of the NPP’s upcoming presidential primaries.

“What the NPP is currently doing is not a thank you tour. What is happening is just a desperate attempt by Dr. Bawumia to revive his political career after leading the NPP to its most embarrassing political defeat. That is what is happening,” he stated.

He accused the NPP of mobilising its entire party machinery to support Dr. Bawumia to grant him an unfair advantage over other aspirants within the party, particularly those who may be eyeing a leadership bid.

He further criticised Dr. Bawumia for attempting to dissociate himself from the Akufo-Addo administration, despite serving as Vice President and head of the government’s Economic Management Team for eight years.

“Just look at who they’re meeting—party executives, not ordinary Ghanaians. And what are they saying? Are there any thank you messages? No. All we hear is Bawumia playing Pontius Pilate—blaming everyone else for the defeat but himself,”

“So for me, what is happening is a charade of a thank you tour,” he added.

Ghana commended for innovative strategies towards malaria elimination

0

Dr Corine Karema, the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Afrika Kwanza Health Impact, has commended Ghana for implementing innovative strategies to eliminate malaria, including being among 19 countries deploying vaccines to protect children under five years.

She said the implementation of Ghana’s National Malaria Elimination Strategic Plan (NMESP) 2024–2028, which comprised enhanced epidemiological surveillance and reactive case detection, had led to significant progress in the country’s fight against the disease.

Dr Karema made the remarks at a two-day Regional Strategic Meeting and the launch of the Coalition of Parliamentarians to End Malaria in Africa (COPEMA), held in Accra.

The event, which opened on Monday and closed on Tuesday, aimed at strengthening continental partnerships between policymakers and malaria control programmes, with parliamentarians at the forefront of advocacy efforts.

COPEMA seeks to mobilise parliamentary support to increase domestic funding and ensure effective implementation of malaria control strategies, as Africa works toward eliminating the disease by 2030.

Dr Karema, sharing progress and setbacks in the fight against malaria, described the disease as a major public health concern, accounting for approximately 600,000 deaths globally each year – including more than 400,000 children under the age of five.

“This is a disease that is both preventable and treatable, yet one child is dying every minute. It’s really important that we act now,” she stressed.

She noted that although malaria cases had declined over the past two decades, only three African countries – Algeria, Mauritius, and recently Cabo Verde – had successfully eliminated the disease.

Dr Karema highlighted several biological challenges impeding progress, including mosquito resistance to insecticides used in bed nets, and drug resistance reported in eight African countries, where patients return with malaria despite undergoing treatment.

“Although people are using mosquito nets, the mosquitoes are not dying. They continue to transmit the disease,” she said.

The emergence of new mosquito species and malaria parasites that evade standard detection methods has further complicated eradication efforts.

On financing, Dr Karema identified inadequate funding as a major obstacle.

She said the global malaria response requires at least $8.3 billion annually but receives only $4.3 billion, just over half of the required resources.

“That is why this meeting is important. We are meeting with the coalition of parliamentarians to advocate increased domestic funding,” she added.

Cecilia Senoo, the Chief Executive Officer of Hope for Future Generations, delivering a statement on behalf of civil society organisations at the event to commemorate World Malaria Day 2025, reaffirmed the need to mobilise national resources to sustain momentum towards malaria elimination.

She said 2025 was a critical year for malaria advocacy as the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund) prepared for its Eighth Replenishment cycle, which was key to deploying lifesaving malaria tools to millions at risk.

Senoo called on country leaders to ensure a fully resourced Global Fund, which aims to save 23 million lives between 2027 and 2029.

“In addition to calls for sustained investments from global partners, communities and civil society across the globe are urging leaders of malaria-affected countries – particularly in Africa – to take ownership of national malaria responses and fulfil their commitments,” she stated.

The event was held in collaboration with strategic partners including the National Malaria Programme of Ghana, Afrika Kwanza Health Impact, and Hope for Future Generations.

Global Fund, Africa CDC, World Health Organization, Pan African Parliament, and the RBM Partnership to End Malaria all supported the event.

What Kind of Nonsense Is This? – Yaa Yeboah Slams Medikal Over Alabaster Box Copyright Lawsuit

Popular Ghanaian media personality, Yaa Yeboah, has taken a strong swipe at rapper Medikal following a copyright lawsuit filed by the gospel music group, Alabaster Box. The group has accused Medikal of using parts of their song without proper authorization, leading to a legal battle that has caught public attention.

During a heated discussion on United Showbiz, Yaa Yeboah did not hold back her frustration. She described the situation as “complete nonsense,” questioning why artists like Medikal continue to flout copyright laws and disrespect the intellectual property of others, especially gospel musicians who dedicate their craft to uplifting spiritual values.

“What kind of nonsense is this?” Yaa Yeboah fumed on live television. “You cannot just sample someone’s work, especially a gospel song, and act like it’s not a big deal. Respect is due.”

She continued by urging Ghanaian musicians to be more professional and responsible in their dealings. According to her, such issues taint the image of the creative industry and make it difficult for collaborations to happen genuinely.

The lawsuit from Alabaster Box alleges that Medikal used portions of one of their hit songs without seeking permission or crediting the group. The gospel band is demanding compensation and the removal of the said track from all streaming platforms.

While Medikal has yet to publicly respond to the accusations, social media is buzzing with mixed reactions. Some fans defend the rapper, arguing it may have been an honest oversight, while others believe artists must be held accountable for copyright violations.

As the case unfolds, many industry players are watching closely to see how it will influence future interactions between secular and gospel artists in Ghana.

Rethinking boxer safety in Ghana after the March 29 tragedy

The tragic death of Nigerian light heavyweight boxer Gabriel Aluwasegun Olanrewaju, popularly known as “Success,” during an international bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, has cast a long shadow over Ghana’s boxing landscape.

The 40-year-old fighter collapsed in the third round of his scheduled eight-round contest against Ghanaian opponent Jonathan Mbanugu, during Match Night 15 of the Bel 7Star Ghana Professional Boxing League. He was later pronounced dead. A subsequent pathology report revealed the cause of death as cardiac arrest.

A Wake-Up Call for the Sport

In an article published on April 4, I analysed the tragedy as a wake-up call for Ghana’s boxing fraternity and broader sports governance institutions.

The piece addressed how a lack of adherence to internationally recognised medical protocols may have contributed to the unfortunate incident, a scenario that underscores the need for urgent reforms in Ghana’s boxing ecosystem.

Globally, boxing is governed by strict ethical and medical standards designed to safeguard fighters before, during, and after bouts. These are enforced by organisations such as the World Boxing Council (WBC), World Boxing Association (WBA), International Boxing Federation (IBF), World Boxing Organisation (WBO), and various national boxing commissions. Unfortunately, our systems in Ghana have too often failed to mirror these standards.

What Standard Practice Looks Like

Medical evaluation protocols in professional boxing follow a three-phase model:

1. Pre-Contract Medical Evaluations: These are carried out before any bout is confirmed. If a boxer fails at this stage, the fight contract is not signed.

2. Training Camp & Pre-Fight Medicals: Continuous assessments are conducted throughout the training period. These include cardiovascular screening, bloodwork, neurological tests, and more.

3. Fight Week & Fight Night Protocols: During fight week, boxers undergo final medical checks, including weight management assessments, hydration status, and heart and brain evaluations. On fight night, medical personnel must be on standby ringside, equipped for emergency response, including a thorough examination of a

4. boxer who has suffered a severe knockout.

If a boxer fails any stage of this rigorous process, the fighter is either withdrawn from the card or, in high-profile bouts, the entire event may be postponed.

The Road Ahead

Gabriel Olanrewaju’s passing should serve as more than just a moment of mourning, it must be a turning point. Ghana must now commit to a systemic overhaul of its boxing safety protocols.

This includes mandatory compliance with international medical standards, better pre-fight screening, and the licensing of only facilities and promoters who can guarantee the health and safety of fighters.

One tragedy is one too many. The question now is whether the stakeholders, regulators, promoters, trainers, and health professionals are ready to act before history repeats Richard Harrison receives medical attention in the dressing room after

Getting stopped in round 2 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Rockford, Illinois.

Rethinking Medical Protocols in Ghanaian Boxing

Following a thorough analysis of the prevailing conditions and practices within Ghana and across Africa, this article calls for urgent and uncompromising adherence to medical and safety standards in boxing.

The tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju on March 29 is a sobering reminder of boxing’s inherent dangers, where head trauma, physical exhaustion, and undetected health conditions can lead to fatal outcomes.

While it is believed that Olanrewaju’s death was caused by cardiac arrest, the incident underscores a larger issue: the inconsistencies and gaps in pre-fight medical protocols.

In Ghana and much of Africa, fighters are often not subjected to comprehensive health assessments. Routine procedures such as neurological and cardiovascular evaluations, physical fitness checks, and drug testing for banned substances are either inconsistently applied or absent.

Call to Action

This tragedy should serve as a turning point. It is now imperative for government agencies, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), promoters, trainers, and medical professionals to elevate their commitment to fighter safety.

Boxers must not be allowed to step into the ring without the highest level of medical clearance and assurance.

Key recommendations for reform include:

• Training & specialisation of sports doctors, particularly in combat sports medicine.

• Establishment of a dedicated Sports Medicine Unit within the GBA or the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

• Mandatory advanced medical screening before a fight contract is approved.

• Enhanced ringside medical readiness, with fully equipped personnel and ambulances.

• Tighter regulation of matchmaking and fighter selection, ensuring fairness and physical parity.

A Prompt and Positive Response

Remarkably, just a day after this call to action gained national traction, the Ghana Boxing Authority issued a firm directive titled “Submission of Fight Contracts Two Weeks Ahead of Fight Nights.”

The directive mandates that all fight contracts and match pairings be submitted well in advance, clearly signalling that the era of business-as-usual is over.

The message was direct: Ghana’s boxing landscape must change, and the GBA is ready to lead that charge.

If the right lessons are taken from this tragedy, then Gabriel Olanrewaju’s untimely death will not be in vain. It could be the catalyst that finally compels the industry to put fighter safety before spectacle.

From Tragedy to Transformation: GBA Acts After Boxing Death

Though a quick read of the Ghana Boxing Authority’s (GBA) initial directive may reveal it lacked some of the technical depth expected in a professional regulatory framework, it nonetheless signals a critical shift in attitude.

As the adage goes, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, and even a late start is better than no action at all.

Killing Two Birds with One Stone

The GBA’s first circular following the tragic March 29 boxing fatality was more than just a call for adherence to mandatory medical standards.

It also tackled one of the most persistent irregularities in Ghanaian boxing, the last-minute inclusion of unprepared or unvetted fighters onto match cards.

In a firm tone, the GBA declared that “no fights will be allowed to be added to the already submitted fight pairings on the day of weigh-in and medical check-ups.” Only bout contracts submitted within the stipulated deadline will be permitted.

This move, although long overdue, is a welcome step toward restoring discipline and professionalism in match preparations.

Action No. 2: “We Mean Business”

Ten days later, the GBA followed up with a second circular, this time, more detailed and deliberate.

The Authority outlined a checklist of strict compliance requirements for promoters and stakeholders before any fight night can be approved. These include:

• License copies of all boxers scheduled to fight

• Full payment of official GBA fees

• Submission of verifiable medical reports, including a signed “fit to box” certificate

• Proof of purse payments for each boxer

Additionally, in a progressive step to bolster ringside safety, the GBA announced arrangements for mandatory ECG (electrocardiogram) screenings on weigh-in day. Promoters are expected to bear the cost of ¢600.00 per boxer for this service.

A Glimmer of Reform

These actions, though reactive, reflect a newfound commitment by the GBA to put boxer safety and regulatory compliance at the heart of Ghana’s boxing revival. They are a response not only to public outcry following the death of Gabriel Olanrewaju, but also to decades of lax oversight in the sport.

While there is still a long way to go, the GBA’s recent moves provide a glimmer of hope that Ghana’s boxing authorities are finally prepared to move beyond rhetoric and into meaningful, enforceable reform.

If sustained, these steps could reshape the sport’s future, making Ghana a respected model for safety, professionalism, and integrity in African boxing.

GBA Releases Comprehensive Medical Protocols Ahead of Fight Nights

New mandatory health regulations & timeline.

In a decisive step to raise medical standards in Ghanaian boxing, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) has released a detailed circular titled “Mandatory Pre-Fight Medical Examinations and Timeline, Upcoming Sanctioned Bouts.” The directive, issued six days after earlier reforms, outlines critical health screening protocols and timelines that must be adhered to before any fight night is approved.

Signed by Dr. Eric Tetteh Ayertey, a designated GBA Medical Doctor, the two-and-a-half-page document underscores the Authority’s “unwavering commitment to upholding the highest standards of health and safety for all athletes.” It sets forth clear medical requirements and cost implications, warning stakeholders that non-compliance could lead to disqualification or removal from scheduled bouts.

Final reports are to be submitted to the GBA Medical Directorate no later than 48 hours before the fight. The directive makes it clear: failure to meet these timelines will lead to automatic disqualification of the boxer from the event.

This updated policy not only signals a historic turning point for Ghanaian boxing but also affirms the GBA’s resolve to ensure that every fighter enters the ring with a clean bill of health, reducing the risk of preventable tragedies in future sanctioned bouts.

The Price of Safety: Financial Implications of New Medical Standards

Implementing stricter medical protocols in Ghana boxing has come at a cost, literally. A rough estimate of the expenses involved in meeting the newly announced Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) health requirements pegs the total at 2,589 cedis (approximately USD 182) per boxer.

This figure, although still short of the comprehensive international standards discussed in my earlier article, has already sparked considerable anxiety across the boxing community.

For many boxers, trainers, and promoters operating in an underfunded sport with minimal sponsorship and low public turnout, this new financial burden threatens participation.

While the GBA’s directive is a step in the right direction for safeguarding lives in the ring, the economic implications risk sidelining aspiring talents due to a lack of systemic support.

The Financial Impact of Ghana Boxing Authority’s New Medical Directive

The unintended consequences have already begun to manifest. Two sanctioned fight nights in April were disrupted.

The first was the Box Office Sports Promotion bill slated for Sunday, April 20. Just three days prior, it was postponed due to a minor injury to one of the headliners.

In a notable departure from past practice, where such setbacks would often be concealed until post-fight analyses, the affected boxer urged promoter Alex Ntiamoah Boakye to reschedule. The fight has since been moved to May 10.

The second event, hosted by Nana’s Promotions on Friday, April 25, went ahead but not without drama. Spectators endured a four-hour delay as the GBA board insisted on full compliance with the new protocols.

According to ring announcer Mohammed Amin Lamptey, the Authority refused to compromise on the thorough medical vetting. Of six originally scheduled bouts, only five made it to the ring.

While reactions have varied, one thing is clear: Ghana must never again witness a preventable tragedy like the March 29 incident that took the life of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Olanrewaju, simply because critical protocols were overlooked.

The GBA deserves credit for standing firm, but the responsibility must now be shared.

The government, particularly the Ministry of Youth and Sports, must act urgently to support this reform. This includes funding for medical screenings, specialist training in sports medicine, and infrastructure development to meet international safety standards.

Ghana boxing is at a crossroads. We can either invest in a safer, sustainable future or continue to gamble with lives in the name of sport.

Lace Wedding Dress For Ladies

0

A lace wedding dress is the epitome of romance, elegance, and timeless beauty. For centuries, lace has remained a popular fabric choice for bridal gowns, admired for its intricate patterns, delicate texture, and sophisticated charm. Whether you’re planning a classic church ceremony or a modern outdoor celebration, a lace wedding dress adds a touch of luxury and femininity that’s hard to match.

One of the most appealing qualities of lace is its versatility. It can be used in many different dress styles, including A-line, mermaid, ball gown, and sheath silhouettes. Brides can opt for all-lace dresses for a dramatic, vintage-inspired look or choose gowns with lace accents on the bodice, sleeves, or hemline for a more subtle effect. Illusion lace sleeves and backs are particularly trendy, offering a delicate, barely-there look while maintaining modesty.

Lace also pairs beautifully with other fabrics like satin, tulle, or chiffon, creating depth and contrast in the design. Modern brides often choose minimalist silhouettes adorned with lace overlays or floral lace appliqués for a contemporary yet romantic feel.

Color options have also expanded beyond traditional white. Ivory, champagne, blush, and even soft gray lace wedding dresses are now widely available, allowing brides to find a hue that complements their skin tone and wedding theme.

Ultimately, a lace wedding dress is more than just a garment—it’s a reflection of personal style and a celebration of love. With its timeless appeal and graceful detail, lace remains a top choice for brides seeking elegance, tradition, and beauty on their special day.

‘Unparalleled’ snake antivenom made from man bitten 200 times

0

The blood of a US man who deliberately injected himself with snake venom for nearly two decades has led to an “unparalleled” antivenom, say scientists.

Antibodies found in Tim Friede’s blood have been shown to protect against fatal doses from a wide range of species in animal tests.

Current therapies have to match the specific species of venomous snake anyone has been bitten by.

But Mr Friede’s 18-year mission could be a significant step in finding a universal antivenom against all snakebites – which kill up to 140,000 people a year and leave three times as many needing amputations or facing permanent disability.

In total, Mr Friede has endured more than 200 bites and more than 700 injections of venom he prepared from some of the world’s deadliest snakes, including multiple species of mambas, cobras, taipans and kraits.

He initially wanted to build up his immunity to protect himself when handling snakes, documenting his exploits on YouTube.

But the former truck mechanic said that he had “completely screwed up” early on when two cobra bites in quick succession left him in a coma.

“I didn’t want to die. I didn’t want to lose a finger. I didn’t want to miss work,” he told the BBC.

Mr Friede’s motivation was to develop better therapies for the rest of the world, explaining: “It just became a lifestyle and I just kept pushing and pushing and pushing as hard as I could push – for the people who are 8,000 miles away from me who die from snakebite”.

‘I’d love to get my hands on some of your blood’

Antivenom is currently made by injecting small doses of snake venom into animals, such as horses. Their immune system fights the venom by producing antibodies and these are harvested to be used as a therapy.

But venom and antivenom have to be closely matched because the toxins in a venomous bite vary from one species to another.

There is even wide variety within the same species – antivenom made from snakes in India is less effective against the same species in Sri Lanka.

A team of researchers began searching for a type of immune defence called broadly neutralising antibodies. Instead of targeting the part of a toxin that makes it unique, they target the parts that are common to entire classes of toxin.

That’s when Dr Jacob Glanville, chief executive of biotech company Centivax, came across Tim Friede.

“Immediately I was like ‘if anybody in the world has developed these broadly neutralising antibodies, it’s going to be him’ and so I reached out,” he said.

“The first call, I was like ‘this might be awkward, but I’d love to get my hands on some of your blood’.”

Mr Friede agreed and the work was given ethical approval because the study would only take blood, rather than giving him more venom.

Tim Friede, centre, wanted to help develop better therapies for snakebite victims

The research focused on elapids – one of the two families of venomous snakes – such as coral snakes, mambas, cobras, taipans and kraits.

Elapids primarily use neurotoxins in their venom, which paralyses their victim and is fatal when it stops the muscles needed to breathe.

Researchers picked 19 elapids identified by the World Health Organization as being among the deadliest snakes on the planet. They then began scouring Mr Friede’s blood for protective defences.

Their work, detailed in the journal Cell, identified two broadly neutralising antibodies that could target two classes of neurotoxin. They added in a drug that targets a third to make their antivenom cocktail.

In experiments on mice, the cocktail meant the animals survived fatal doses from 13 of the 19 species of venomous snake. They had partial protection against the remaining six.

This is “unparalleled” breadth of protection, according to Dr Glanville, who said it “likely covers a whole bunch of elapids for which there is no current antivenom”.

Researchers working on developing a universal antivenom

The team is trying to refine the antibodies further and see if adding a fourth component could lead to total protection against elapid snake venom.

The other class of snake – the vipers – rely more on haemotoxins, which attack the blood, rather than neurotoxins. In total there are around a dozen broad classes of toxin in snake venom, which also includes cytotoxins that directly kill cells.

“I think in the next 10 or 15 years we’ll have something effective against each one of those toxin classes,” said Prof Peter Kwong, one of the researchers at Columbia University.

And the hunt continues inside Mr Friede’s blood samples.

“Tim’s antibodies are really quite extraordinary – he taught his immune system to get this very, very broad recognition,” said Prof Kwong.

The ultimate hope is to have either a single antivenom that can do everything, or one injection for elapids and one for vipers.

Prof Nick Casewell, who is the head of the centre for snakebite research and interventions at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, said the breadth of protection reported was “certainly novel” and provided “a strong piece of evidence” that this was a feasible approach.

“There is no doubt that this work moves the field forwards in an exciting direction.”

But he cautioned there was “much work to do” and that the antivenom still needed extensive testing before it could be used in people.

But for Mr Friede, reaching this stage “makes me feel good”.

“I’m doing something good for humanity and that was very important to me. I’m proud of it. It’s pretty cool.”

Energy and finance ministers meet Karpowership to avert power shutdown over debt arrears

Energy minister John Abdulai Jinapor and Finance minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson held a crucial meeting with officials from Karpowership Co. Ltd. on May 2, 2025, following the company’s threat to suspend its operations in Ghana due to unpaid debts.

The meeting, convened at the Ministry of Finance in Accra, was prompted by Karpowership’s warning that it could halt power supply if the government does not settle its outstanding debt, reportedly around $400 million.

Karpowership, a vital player in Ghana’s electricity generation and grid stabilization, has expressed frustration over the government’s failure to clear the arrears.

The threat raised significant concerns within the energy sector, given the company’s essential role in maintaining the national power grid.

Despite the urgency of the situation, the meeting ended without a resolution. However, sources close to the discussions revealed that some progress had been made, although critical issues remain unresolved.

In light of this, both ministries and Karpowership officials have agreed to reconvene on Monday, May 5, 2025, to continue negotiations and seek a compromise that could prevent a disruption in power supply.

The ongoing debt crisis among Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which totals about $2 billion, remains a major challenge for Ghana’s energy sector.

Together with the Managing Director of the Republic Bank Ghana, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, the Council of State Member representing the Volta Region, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple, have initiated steps at exploring opportunities, through the bank, for the people of the region interested in agricultural initiatives.

This was after the two prominent personalities paid a courtesy visit on the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Sharing the update of their visit on his Facebook page, Kwamigah-Atokple stated that the goal is to boost the local economy.

He, however, indicated that these moves will also require some urgent financial inputs; something they are working hard towards.

“I joined the Managing Director of Republic Bank Ghana, Dr Benjamin Dzoboku, on a courtesy visit to the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for the bank to support agricultural initiatives in the region, with the goal of boosting the local economy to improve standard of living.

“During our engagement, the minister outlined several pressing initiatives that require urgent financial support, particularly in the areas of agricultural mechanization and rice production in the Tongu and Ketu North, and northern belts of the region,” he stated.

On his part, the Managing Director of the Republic Bank, Dr Dzoboku, expressed the bank’s eagerness to support these initiatives and “to develop tailored financial products that drive local investment and development.”

The leaders thereafter made another stop at the Ho Teaching Hospital, where they gave assurances of support for the facility’s healthcare needs.

“Following the meeting with the Minister, we proceeded to the Ho Teaching Hospital to conduct a needs assessment. The Managing Director expressed the bank’s willingness to support the hospital by addressing some of its basic healthcare needs.

“It is worth recalling that I was part of the launch of Republic Bank in the Volta Region earlier this year. The bank’s early and consistent commitment to the progress of the region is commendable and deeply appreciated,” Gabriel Kwamigah-Atokple added.

Five things we learnt as Ghana open tournament with draw against DR Congo

0

The Black Satellites of Ghana squad The Black Satellites of Ghana squad

The Black Satellites of Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw in their opening game at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Friday evening.

Aziz Musibau’s fine strike cancelled out Samuel Ntandu-Lukisa’s early goal for DR Congo, as the two sides shared the spoils in a pulsating Group C opener.

Coach Desmond Offei will be hoping his team bounces back to winning ways in their next group game against defending champions Senegal.

Here are five things we learned from the team’s first game:

Abdul Hakim Sulemana steals the show

Abdul Hakim, the younger brother of Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, proved he is one to watch after a stellar display in the opening game, earning him the Man of the Match award. Although he didn’t register a goal or assist, he was a constant threat for the Congolese defenders, who struggled to contain the Randers player.

Jerry Afriyie should have started

The CD Lugo and Black Stars striker started on the bench, and Ghana looked toothless in front of goal during the first half.

The only bright moment in attack was Musibau’s equaliser midway through the first stanza. However, Afriyie’s introduction added much-needed attacking threat, forcing DR Congo to sit deeper. He almost grabbed the winner late on, but his goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by a Congolese defender.

Ghana lives up to the ‘slow starters’ tag

Ghana has earned a reputation for slow starts at major tournaments, including the last U-20 AFCON in Mauritania in 2021, where they opened with a draw but went on to win the tournament. The Black Satellites showed signs of bouncing back again after a shaky start in this year’s campaign.

Desmond Offei maintains a possession-based style

Despite conceding early, it was evident that Offei prefers a possession-based approach, building from the back and controlling the tempo. The equaliser was the result of a well-constructed build-up, underlining this tactical identity. Ghana ended the first half with over 60% of possession.

Getting Pregnant At The Age Of 20 Was A Bit Difficult For Me, I Thought I Wouldn’t Marry Again– Lady

Renowned Nollywood actress Eniola Ajao recently opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her life, shedding light on the emotional challenges she faced when she became a mother at a young age. In an interview featured on the official YouTube channel of Biola Adebayo Ent, the actress shared the experiences surrounding her early pregnancy and the reasons she has kept her son away from public view.

Eniola revealed that she became pregnant at the age of 20, a period she described as overwhelming and filled with uncertainty. She recalled feeling isolated, as though the world was turning against her. The unexpected pregnancy brought fear and anxiety, especially as she was still quite young and uncertain about how her future would unfold.

The societal expectations and pressure from her family made the situation even more complicated. Eniola explained that her parents had strong educational goals for her and expected her to complete her schooling before taking on the responsibilities of adulthood. This led her to conceal the pregnancy from not only the public but also from her family at the time.

She also expressed a deep sense of shame and insecurity about becoming a mother at such a young age. While some women, including celebrities, marry and start families early in life, Eniola felt unprepared for the judgment and stigma that might come from others. This fear pushed her to keep her journey into motherhood private, shielding both herself and her son from public scrutiny.

A major factor influencing her decision to keep her son hidden from the public eye is the fear that it could affect her romantic prospects. She admitted to worrying that potential suitors might not approach her if they knew she had a child. This concern has contributed to her ongoing decision to maintain a low profile when it comes to her son. Despite these fears, Eniola continues to thrive in her career while privately embracing the joys and responsibilities of motherhood.

She said, “Getting pregnant at the age of 20 was a bit difficult for me, and I felt like the whole world was against me. I thought I wouldn’t be able to get married again, so I felt like I needed to hide the pregnancy from the public and my parents at the time.”

Antoa Chief Earns Praise for Steadfast Leadership Amid Storm During Kyidomhene’s Funeral

0

The Chief of Antoa, Nana Kwaku Ware III, has drawn widespread admiration for his unshakable commitment to tradition and leadership during the final funeral rites of his Kyidomhene, defying a sudden storm that disrupted the solemn ceremony.

The funeral, which attracted chiefs, elders, and mourners from across the region, was progressing with traditional rites when a heavy downpour, accompanied by strong winds, descended unexpectedly on the gathering. While many attendees scrambled for shelter, Nana Kwaku Ware III remained firmly seated in his regal position, undeterred by the pelting rain and gusts that swept across the funeral grounds.

According to eyewitnesses, the Antoa chief insisted that the rites be completed in full, emphasizing the sacred importance of the ceremony and the oath he swore to uphold the customs of the land. His elders, inspired by his resolve, also stood their ground, completing the funeral rites amid the storm.

“This is the mark of true leadership and devotion to our traditions,” said one elder present at the event. “Nana showed that the role of a chief is not merely ceremonial. It’s about sacrifice, honor, and standing firm even in the most difficult moments.”

Social media has since been flooded with praise for Nana Kwaku Ware III, with many users lauding his composure and reverence for cultural heritage. Cultural analysts also noted that such moments reinforce public confidence in traditional leadership at a time when modernization threatens to erode long-held customs.

The late Kyidomhene, who served Antoa with distinction for decades, was known for his wisdom and dedication to communal unity. His final rites were seen as an important cultural milestone, made even more memorable by the chief’s symbolic gesture of resilience.

Nana Kwaku Ware III’s actions are being viewed not just as a tribute to the deceased, but as a reaffirmation of his unwavering role as the spiritual and cultural backbone of the Antoa traditional area.

African Gorgeous Outfits for Women

0

African fashion is a vibrant expression of culture, identity, and creativity. For women, African outfits are more than just clothing—they are statements of beauty, elegance, and heritage. Today, African fashion designers continue to blend tradition with modern style, offering gorgeous outfits that appeal to women of all ages and body types.

One of the most iconic African outfits is the Ankara dress. Made from bold, colorful wax-print fabric, Ankara dresses come in countless styles—from maxi gowns to peplum tops and fitted skirts. These pieces are perfect for weddings, church, cultural events, and even casual outings, depending on how they are styled. With their eye-catching patterns and flattering cuts, Ankara outfits are both elegant and attention-grabbing.

Kaftans and boubous are also popular, especially for women who prefer comfort without sacrificing beauty. These loose, flowing garments are ideal for hot climates and can be made from luxurious materials like silk or chiffon, often adorned with embroidery or beadwork for a regal touch. They’re commonly worn for special occasions or festive gatherings.

Kente cloth, traditionally worn by royalty in Ghana, has become a symbol of pride and heritage across Africa and the diaspora. Kente outfits, often in bright geometric patterns, are frequently chosen for weddings, graduations, and cultural ceremonies.

Modern African designers also infuse global fashion trends into African wear, creating fusion outfits that feature off-shoulder tops, mermaid gowns, jumpsuits, and high-low dresses made with African fabrics.

Whether for everyday wear or special events, African outfits for women offer a stunning combination of tradition, elegance, and modern flair.

“I never called Dr. Ayine corrupt” – A-Plus

0

Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued an apology and clarified a misunderstanding following a social media storm that erroneously linked him to accusations against Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, April 30, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine dismissed allegations of corruption reportedly linked to campaign donations he received.

According to Dr. Ayine, the Gomoa Central MP had accused him of being corrupt based on claims that he accepted contributions from businessman Dr. Sledge and received pickups for his campaign.

Dr. Ayine firmly rejected the accusation, stating that receiving campaign support does not constitute corruption. “If receiving donations or a pickup for your campaign is thievery, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including the one making the allegation,” he said.

Responding to the issue in a Facebook post, A-Plus explained that he never referred to Dr Ayine as a thief or corrupt

According to him, the Twitter post in question originated from a fraudulent account using his name and image, which he does not control.

“First and foremost, I want to state, without any ambiguity, that I have never—at any point—accused the Attorney General, Dr. Ayine, of being corrupt or a thief. That claim is false and misleading. The statements currently in circulation originated from a fraudulent Twitter (X) account that is impersonating me. Although the account bears my name, photograph, and even a verification badge, it is not under my control. As the public is now aware, verification on X can be obtained through a paid subscription, making impersonation easier.

“My official remarks regarding the passage of the sanitation levy remain available on my verified Facebook page. They are clear, measured, and accessible to the general public. I never used the words corrupt or thief.

“I encourage all Ghanaians to refer to my Facebook page for the accurate and unedited version of events. The impersonator account deliberately distorted my position, seemingly to create confusion and inflame tensions,” he clarified.

Acknowledging the confusion and the emotional undertone of his own reaction on Facebook, A-Plus admitted his response was inappropriate and offered an unreserved apology to Dr. Ayine, Parliament, the NDC, and the public at large.

“…I believe I could have made my point in a more respectful and constructive manner. I take full responsibility for my words and actions. As a gesture of remorse and respect, I have deleted the post in question—something I rarely do,” he added.

Addressing allegations relating to the National Service Secretariat (NSS), A-Plus distanced himself from any impropriety. He denied receiving payments from the NSS or having any business or influence in its dealings.

He admitted to meeting an individual in November 2024 who sought his media support to clear their name, a gesture he likened to his past support for other public officials facing legal scrutiny.

“Everyone who has followed me closely knows that I will be there for you in times of despair,” he added, citing his public support for Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson as an example of his commitment to due process and fairness, regardless of political alignment.

He urged Attorney General Dr. Ayine to publicly disclose any evidence to the contrary, emphasising that “as public servants, transparency and accountability are responsibilities we must all uphold together.”

Reaffirming his commitment to the government’s anti-corruption agenda, A-Plus called for unity and mutual respect among public officials.

“The fight against corruption remains a critical priority for His Excellency, the President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government as a whole. It is imperative that we all engage in this effort with integrity, fairness, and mutual respect,” he noted.

I retract my words – A Plus apologises to Dr Ayine over insults

Kwame Asare Obeng (L) has apologised to Dr Dominic Ayine (R) Kwame Asare Obeng (L) has apologised to Dr Dominic Ayine (R)

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, has issued an unqualified apology to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, over derogatory remarks that were made against him.

Clarifying his position on the matter, A Plus, as he is popularly known, acknowledged that the language he used in response to the Attorney General’s comments, that were made at a press conference, were inappropriate and did not reflect the decorum expected of someone in his position as a Member of Parliament.

“Regarding my own response on Facebook to the Attorney General’s comments at the press conference, I admit that I authored that particular post. Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate.

“As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologise to Hon Dr Ayine, the general public, the NDC party, and Parliament, and fully retract those words. I believe I could have made my point in a more respectful and constructive manner,” he said on Facebook on May 3, 2025.

A Plus expressed deep remorse over the incident, adding that he has since deleted the post containing the insulting remarks directed at the Attorney General as a gesture of accountability and to demonstrate that he has taken full responsibility for his actions.

“I take full responsibility for my words and actions. As a gesture of remorse and respect, I have deleted the post in question — something I rarely do,” he stated.

The lawmaker’s apology follows an earlier accusation made against the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, alleging bribery and corruption — claims which he has since disassociated himself from, attributing them to an impersonator.

According to A Plus, the minister allegedly sought an amount of GH¢500,000 to bribe the Appointment Committee of Parliament.

His accusation followed a rebuttal by Dr Ayine during a press conference on April 30, 2025, where he denied initial allegations made by A Plus concerning corruption-related matters.

A Plus stated; “No! That is not true. My information is that you went to beg for 500 thousand cedis, claiming you were going to use it to bribe the Appointment Committee of Parliament. And for your information, you’re not the only one. If you are an old… I’ll reset your brain…man!”

Dr Ayine had explained during the press conference that he had not engaged in any corruption but had rather sought campaign funds from one Mr Sledge.

He further elaborated; “A Plus warned me in his post not to do anything silly and threatened to come after me if I did. That is laughable,” adding, “The threat is laughable because I have nothing to hide. I’m reliably informed that his basis for accusing me of corruption and theft is that I received campaign contributions from a businessman. He also claims to know the people who donated pickups for my campaign.”

Dr Ayine continued; “If receiving donations for your campaign or getting a pickup for campaign purposes is considered theft or corruption, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including the person making the allegation.”

The strange 2023 Peru ritual that marked the start of Neymar’s injury nightmares

0

Peruvian shamans during the ritual in 2023 Peruvian shamans during the ritual in 2023

In September 2023, a group of Peruvian shamans made headlines when they performed a bizarre ritual to neutralise Neymar ahead of Peru’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

Dressed in colourful ponchos, the spiritualists tied up an effigy of the Brazilian star, blew into conch shells, and chanted around a makeshift altar outside Lima’s national stadium.

They claimed to have tied Neymar’s feet to stop him from performing.

“We tied him up so that he is not in good shape and doesn’t run or play well,” said shaman Félix Rondán.

Another healer, Walter Alarcón, stated that their goal was to “cloud Neymar’s mind” and block his path to goals.

At first, it seemed like nothing more than a sideshow.

Neymar even assisted the match-winning goal in Brazil’s 1-0 victory, but what followed has been nothing short of a football tragedy.

Since that ritual, Neymar has missed over 500 days of football due to injuries.

Just weeks after joining Saudi side, Al Hilal, in a blockbuster £86 million move, he tore his ACL while on international duty, forcing the club to deregister him.

A brief return in late 2024 was halted by a hamstring injury.

By January 2025, Al Hilal had seen enough and terminated his contract.

Neymar departed with just one goal in seven games, one of the most disastrous transfers in history.

As a result, the former Barcelona forward returned to his boyhood club, Santos, in Brazil, hoping to revive his legacy. But even there, the nightmare lingered.

Before his much-anticipated return to Brazil’s top flight with Santos, Neymar had shown flashes of his old brilliance in the 2025 Campeonato Paulista playoffs.

In just seven appearances, the 33-year-old forward scored three goals and provided three assists, rekindling hope among fans that he was finally rediscovering his form after two injury-plagued years.

His sharpness on the ball, creativity in the final third, and improved movement suggested that the worst might be behind him.

With each performance, larger crowds gathered, and Santos fans cheered louder.

His impact during the Paulista campaign raised expectations ahead of his Brazilian Serie A debut, with many predicting Neymar would carry his momentum into the league and inspire a Santos resurgence.

But just 34 minutes into his first league appearance, optimism turned into despair. Neymar fell to the ground in pain, clutching his leg, and was forced off in tears, another cruel setback in a comeback story that had looked so promising only weeks earlier.

Whether it’s coincidence, accumulated wear and tear, or something more mystical, Neymar’s post-2023 journey has become a tragic reflection of a star trapped in an endless cycle of hope and heartbreak.

What was meant to be a triumphant homecoming has instead deepened the questions surrounding his future in the game.

For a player once destined to define a generation, the shadow of that shaman ritual, and the unrelenting injuries that followed, continues to haunt the final chapters of his storied, yet painfully unfulfilled career.

I never received payment to influence NSS scandal, but… – A-Plus to AG

0

Gomoa Central legislator, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has denied ever receiving payment to influence investigations into the National Service Secretariat (NSS) scandal.

The Gomoa Central MP issued an official statement on Friday clarifying his position following accusations, which he claimed were linked to a fake social media account impersonating him.

The controversy stems from a recent press conference by the Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, where he referenced the account’s claims and called for A-Plus to answer questions regarding the NSS scandal.

In his statement, A-Plus firmly stated: “I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat. I have never contacted anyone to suppress or influence the matter in any way.”

However, he revealed that his only connection to the issue was in November 2024 when an individual approached him, claiming to be falsely accused in the scandal.

A-Plus admitted that his intention was to assist an accused person in seeking media redress.

“The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company (as declared in my asset declaration), he sought my assistance to help clear his name through media engagements,” he wrote in the May 3 statement.

The MP insisted that as a media personality and majority shareholder in a media company, he offered to help the accused person share his side of the story through media engagements.

He added that “if this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree,” he said.

“I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard.”

I’m sorry – A Plus apologises to Ayine over inappropriate remarks

0

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare-Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has issued an apology to the Attorney General and MP for Bolgatanga East, Dr Dominic Ayine, following a heated exchange over bribery allegations that sparked controversy earlier this week.

In a statement released on his official Facebook page, A Plus admitted authorship of a strongly worded post in which he accused Dr Ayine of attempting to bribe the Appointments Committee of Parliament with GH₵500,000. The post, now deleted, which drew widespread criticism for its harsh language, included personal attacks on the Attorney General, branding him an “old fool,” “I’ll reset your brain,” and a “stupid man.”

Following public backlash and calls for a more respectful discourse, A Plus has retracted his earlier statements, acknowledging that his choice of words was inappropriate and failed to uphold the dignity expected of a legislator.

“Regarding my own response on Facebook to the Attorney General’s comments at the press conference, I admit that I authored that particular post. Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate,” he stated.

He extended a sincere apology to Dr Ayine, describing him as a senior colleague deserving of respect, and also expressed regret to the Ghanaian public for the nature of his remarks.

“As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologise to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public. I believe I could have made my point in a more respectful and constructive manner.”

A Plus emphasised that he takes full responsibility for his actions and, in a rare move, revealed that he has deleted the contentious post from his social media page—a gesture he described as a sign of remorse and respect.

Despite the apology, the Gomoa Central MP reaffirmed his commitment to the fight against corruption, a cornerstone of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) agenda, and called for unity and mutual respect in addressing issues of national concern.

“The fight against corruption remains a critical priority for His Excellency the President John Dramani Mahama, and the NDC government as a whole. It is imperative that we all engage in this effort with integrity, fairness, and mutual respect,” he added.

He concluded by urging all stakeholders to move forward in unity and sincerity, guided by the national interest and the welfare of the Ghanaian people.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM HON. KWAME ASARE OBENG (A-PLUS)
Member of Parliament, Gomoa Central Constituency

I wish to formally address the recent misunderstanding between myself and my respected senior colleague, Hon. Dr. Dominic Ayine.

To begin with, it is important to clarify that this matter revolves around two separate social media posts:

1. A Twitter (X) post from a fake account impersonating me, which claimed that the Hon. Attorney General is a thief and corrupt.

2. My subsequent response on Facebook, after the Attorney General appeared to rely on the content of that fake account during his press conference to address related questions.

First and foremost, I want to state, without any ambiguity, that I have never—at any point—accused the Hon. Attorney General, Dr. The fake account can be accessed via this link: https://x.com/KwameAplus_?t=k8u3Vhui4zIyXt1lBfu0gg&s=09.

My official remarks regarding the passage of the sanitation levy remain available on my verified Facebook page. They are clear, measured, and accessible to the general public. I never used the words corrupt or thief. I encourage all Ghanaians to refer to my Facebook page for the accurate and unedited version of events. The impersonator account deliberately distorted my position, seemingly to create confusion and inflame tensions.

At his press conference, Hon. Dr. Ayine invited the media to question me about an alleged scandal involving the National Service Secretariat (NSS). In response, I wish to state unequivocally that I have no knowledge of the matter and no connection to it whatsoever. I have never received any payment from the NSS, nor do I have any business—directly or indirectly—with the Secretariat. I have never contacted anyone to suppress or influence the matter in any way.

The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company (as declared in my asset declaration), he sought my assistance to help clear his name through media engagements. If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree. I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard.

In the past, I have extended similar support to several government appointees who were prosecuted under the previous administration and were later exonerated or had their cases dropped by the current Attorney General. Everyone who has followed me closely knows that I will be there for you in times of despair. For example, I was one of the people who stood publicly with Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson because I know him to be a man of integrity and believed in his innocence from the very beginning. I do not believe there is anything wrong with supporting another individual to tell their side of a story—regardless of their political affiliation.

These are the facts. If Hon. Dr. Ayine holds any information to the contrary, I respectfully urge him to make it public. Transparency and accountability must be our shared responsibility as public servants.

That said, I understand Dr. Ayine’s frustration, given that an impersonation account using my name and image made such offensive remarks about him. Sadly, there is little I can do about the existence or content of that account, which I do not control—though I truly wish I could.

Regarding my own response on Facebook to the Attorney General’s comments at the press conference, I admit that I authored that particular post. Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate. As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public. I believe I could have made my point in a more respectful and constructive manner.

I take full responsibility for my words and actions. As a gesture of remorse and respect, I have deleted the post in question—something I rarely do.

Let us move forward in unity and sincerity, with the national interest and the welfare of the Ghanaian people as our ultimate guide.

Majority Leader steps in to resolve A Plus, AG rift

0

Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga has stepped in to mediate the escalating tensions between Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, and Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Prime News on Friday, May 2, Ayariga revealed that he had already scheduled a private meeting with A-Plus and would be reaching out to Dr. Ayine shortly afterward.

“I am actually meeting with them today. I’m in the office and then I’m having a meeting very soon with A-Plus, and I will reach out to the Attorney General. So I will resolve it internally,” Ayariga said.

The Majority Leader’s intervention comes amid a public standoff between the two officials, triggered by a corruption allegation that A Plus has denied, blaming it on a fake Twitter account impersonating him. Dr. Ayine, in response, had called on the MP to clarify his claims and challenged him to produce evidence.

A Plus has since apologized for a strongly worded Facebook post reacting to Dr. Ayine’s press conference, but tensions have remained high.

Ayariga’s move to mediate is seen as a crucial step toward defusing the row, which has drawn widespread attention and raised concerns about political decorum and misinformation on social media.

U-20 AFCON: Denis Marfo impresses as Ghana open campaign with 1-1 draw against DR Congo

0

The Black Satellites kicked off their U-20 Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo in Group C.

One of Ghana’s standout performers on the day was defensive midfielder Denis Marfo.

The Internacional player provided much-needed stability in midfield, helping to plug defensive gaps and link play effectively.

Marfo played a key role in Ghana’s 25th-minute equalizer.

He executed a perfectly timed nutmeg on Dieu Lukombe before delivering a crisp pass down the left wing to Emmanuel Mensah. Mensah then whipped in a cross that was calmly finished by Dreams FC forward Aziz Musbau.

Despite flashes of brilliance, both teams struggled with cohesion and ball retention, and the match ended 1-1.

With all teams in Group C earning just a point, the group remains wide open heading into the next round of matches.

Corruption allegations against Ayine were from an X impersonator – A Plus tones down

0

Kwame Asare Obeng is the Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng is the Gomoa Central MP

The Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, has clarified that a recent post attributing allegations of corruption involving the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, did not originate from him, but was instead the work of an impersonator.

According to him, the post in question originated from an X (formerly Twitter) account that falsely used his personal details and displayed a verification badge, thereby misleading the public into believing it was his official account.

He emphasised that he did not author the statement and has never made any such accusations against the Attorney General, describing the situation as a misunderstanding between him and the Attorney General.

“I wish to formally address the recent misunderstanding between myself and my respected senior colleague, Hon Dr Dominic Ayine. To begin with, it is important to clarify that this matter revolves around two separate social media posts: A Twitter (X) post from a fake account impersonating me, which claimed that the Hon Attorney General is a thief and corrupt. My subsequent response on Facebook, after the Attorney General appeared to rely on the content of that fake account during his press conference to address related questions,” parts of his statement posted on his official Facebook account on Saturday, May 3, 2025, read.

The lawmaker further clarified that he has never made any such serious allegations of corruption against Dr Ayine, stressing that the claims attributed to him are entirely false and were instead made by an impersonator.

“First and foremost, I want to state, without any ambiguity, that I have never — at any point — accused the Hon Attorney General, Dr Ayine, of being corrupt or a thief. That claim is false and misleading. The statements currently in circulation originated from a fraudulent Twitter (X) account that is impersonating me. Although the account bears my name, photograph, and even a verification badge, it is not under my control. As the public is now aware, verification on X can be obtained through a paid subscription, making impersonation easier,” his statement continued.

Affectionately known as A Plus, the lawmaker added that his original remarks — referencing a sanitation levy and seemingly distorted by the impersonator — are still available on his official Facebook account, where he personally authored them.

He has, therefore, urged the general public to disregard the impersonator account and the false statements being attributed to him.

“My official remarks regarding the passage of the sanitation levy remain available on my verified Facebook page. They are clear, measured, and accessible to the general public. I never used the words corrupt or thief. I encourage all Ghanaians to refer to my Facebook page for the accurate and unedited version of events. The impersonator account deliberately distorted my position, seemingly to create confusion and inflame tensions,” he added.

Attorney General Dr Dominic Ayine has announced that significant progress has been made in investigations, with Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi set to be charged next week.

He stated that it has been established that the $2 million payment made by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was unauthorized, with only former CEO Solomon Asamoah and former board chairman Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi aware of and involved in the transaction.

Both Asamoah and Ameyaw-Ekumfi Ekumfi will face charges, with some board members offering to testify as prosecution witnesses.

Dr Ayine said he is considering their offers.

“Significant progress has been made in other investigations being conducted in relation to the ORAL Briefs presented to me in February.

“The investigations by the National Intelligence Bureau have been equally thorough under the direction of its Director General, Mr. Alhassan Kipo and guided by the team in my Office.

“In respect of the Skytrain matter, we have completed investigations and will be filing charges hopefully next week.

“We have established that the Two Million United States Dollars (US$2,000,000.00) paid by the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund was paid without board approval.

“The only persons who knew and acted on the payment were the former CEO, Mr. Solomon Asamoah and the former board chairman, Professor Ameyaw-Ekumfi.

“Both will be charged next week. Some of the board members have offered to testify as witnesses for the prosecution and I am considering their offers,” AG said while briefing the media.

Ghana’s U-20 side, the Black Satellites, were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo in their opening Group C clash at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Friday, May 2, 2025.

DR Congo took an early lead through captain Samuel Ntanda-Lukisa, who headed home a well-placed cross in the 15th minute.

However, the Black Satellites responded quickly, with Dreams FC youngster, Musibau Aziz, equalising just ten minutes later after connecting with a sharp delivery from Emmanuel Mensah.

Both sides pushed for a winner in the second half, creating several chances, but lacked the clinical edge in front of goal.

Abdul Hakim Sulemana, who was instrumental in Ghana’s midfield, was named Man of the Match for his standout performance.

The result leaves Group C wide open after Senegal and the Central African Republic also played to a 1-1 draw in the group’s other game.

P.K Sarpong Expresses Shóck as Mahama Orders Ghanaian Presidential Jet To Show Only Ghanaian Movies

P.K Sarpong Expresses Shóck as Mahama Orders Ghanaian Presidential Jet To Show Only Ghanaian Movies

News Hub Creator1h

Political commentator and vocal NPP supporter P.K. Sarpong has taken aim at President John Mahama over a new directive involving the presidential aircraft. Mahama recently announced that only Ghanaian films will be shown onboard the presidential jet once it becomes operational again. Sarpong denounced the directive as pointless and absurd, questioning its value to the average citizen.

Writing on Facebook on May 1, 2025, Sarpong criticized the decision, calling it a display of excessive populism. He mocked the initiative, asking how showing Ghanaian movies on the presidential plane—used by very few people—could possibly benefit the general public. “Is this a joke? Mahama is making a comedy out of the presidency. Who benefits from watching Ghanaian films on a jet we don’t board? This is laughable populism,” he remarked.

The statement followed the unveiling of the “Black Star Experience,” a cultural initiative launched by Mahama to promote Ghana’s creative industries and tourism. As part of this effort, the President announced the exclusive screening of local content on the presidential aircraft to reflect national pride and identity.

However, critics like Sarpong argue that the initiative is misplaced, given the country’s ongoing economic challenges. They believe the use of a government asset like the presidential jet for symbolic gestures does little to address pressing public concerns.

The directive has sparked mixed reactions—some see it as a harmless promotion of culture, while others view it as another example of performative politics that fails to address the real issues affecting Ghanaians.

Ghanaians Are Sùrprised That Vice President Naana Opoku Has Resumed Duty

News Hub Creator2d

According to a report by GhanaWeb, the corridors of Ghana’s highest offices are once again graced by the steady presence of Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who officially resumed her duties today following a three-week medical leave. Her return was greeted with a palpable sense of national relief and jubilation after weeks of widespread public concern and speculation about her health and whereabouts.

The Vice President was welcomed back at Jubilee House by senior government officials, staffers, and a select group of dignitaries in a modest yet symbolic ceremony that underscored the affection and respect she commands across the political spectrum. Dressed in a vibrant kente ensemble and appearing in good spirits, Professor Opoku-Agyemang addressed a small gathering of staff, thanking Ghanaians for their “unwavering prayers, support, and goodwill.”

“It is good to be back,” she said with a warm smile. “The past few weeks have reminded me of the strength and compassion of the Ghanaian people. I am deeply moved by your concern and energized to continue our collective work of nation-building.”

A Period of Uncertainty and Concern

The Vice President’s absence from public duties over the past three weeks had sparked a flurry of speculation on social media and within political circles. Though the Presidency initially indicated she was on medical leave, the lack of detailed public updates gave rise to concern, especially given her central role in policy coordination and social intervention programs.

Opposition voices and some civil society groups had called for transparency, arguing that citizens deserved to be fully informed about the health of their elected leaders. The Presidency responded with a statement last week affirming that the Vice President was “recovering well” and would resume work upon medical clearance. Today’s return puts to rest the growing unease and reaffirms the Vice President’s commitment to her office.

A-Plus apologises to AG for his tone inappropriate choice of words

0

Gomoa Central MP Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued a public apology for his “inappropriate” social media remarks directed at Bolgatanga East MP and former Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine.

In an official statement released today, A-Plus clarified that the offending post came from an impersonator’s account and not his verified platforms.

However, he admitted that his own subsequent Facebook response to Dr. Ayine’s press conference remarks was “disrespectful.”

“Upon reflection, I acknowledge that the tone and choice of words I used were inappropriate. As a Member of Parliament, a younger colleague, and a junior in the House, I sincerely apologize to Hon. Dr. Ayine and to the general public,” he stated.

The controversy began when Dr. Ayine, during a press conference, referenced allegations from the fake account and challenged A-Plus to clarify his stance on a separate National Service Secretariat (NSS) scandal.

A-Plus denied any involvement, stating he had no dealings with the NSS and only assisted an individual seeking media support to clear his name.

“The only time I came into contact with the issue was in November 2024, when a gentleman approached me claiming he was being falsely accused. As a media personality and majority shareholder in a Ghanaian media company (as declared in my asset declaration), he sought my assistance to help clear his name through media engagements. If this support is being misinterpreted as an attempt to suppress the case, I respectfully disagree. I firmly believe that every accused person deserves to be heard.”

Despite distancing himself from the impersonated account, A-Plus took responsibility for his own Facebook post, which he has since deleted as a “gesture of remorse.”

He stressed his commitment to fighting corruption with “integrity, fairness, and mutual respect.”

Near Aggrey Memorial SHS, a horrific collision on the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway left four people dead and more than twenty seriously injured. A Yutong bus traveling from Takoradi to Accra was involved in the accident; it suddenly toppled.

Many families are in grief as a result of the tragic incident, which has also reignited attention to Ghana’s traffic safety problems. According to witness accounts, the bus driver lost control and overturned the bus while he tried to escape a stationary towing vehicle on the road. Emergency personnel hurried the injured to several hospitals in and around Cape Coast as soon as they arrived on the scene. But because of the severity of the injuries, several patients had to be sent to more advanced medical facilities for more specialized treatment. Police have started looking into what went wrong, and the victims’ identities have not yet been made public. The stationary vehicle’s location and presence are being investigated as possible causes, which raises concerns regarding enforcement and highway safety procedures.

Discussions regarding the urgent need for improved traffic management, especially the appropriate use of warning signs for disabled vehicles, have heated up in response to the crash. In Ghana, traffic accidents are still a major issue that are frequently caused by bad driving practices, poor road upkeep, and a lack of traffic laws.

Bereaved family members are seeking justice and that government officials take decisive action to raise safety standards in the wake of the disaster. In order to help prevent other incidents, drivers are being reminded to drive carefully and adhere to all traffic safety regulations while investigations are ongoing.

Akata Stone drops another banger ‘Money Na Water’

0

UK-based Ghanaian Afro-Dancehall artiste Lloyd Twum-Ampofo, better known as Akata Stone, has released his debut single for 2025, ‘Money Na Water’.

Produced by Vicki Beats and mixed by Ray Beatz, the track opened with a hypnotic blend of traditional Ghanaian highlife guitar riffs intertwined with the hard-hitting bass and skanking hi-hats characteristic of Dancehall.

Akata Stone’s signature husky vocals then cut through the mix, delivering a lyrical valence woven with street-smart observations and aspirational energy.

“Money Na Water,” as the title suggests, explores wealth’s fluid and sometimes fleeting nature. However, far from being a lament, the track is vibrating with an optimistic vibe.

Akata Stone sang about the hustle, the relentless pursuit of success, and the understanding that while money might flow like water, the drive to achieve it is what truly matters.

The production was slick and contemporary, a manifestation of Akata Stone’s growth as an artiste.

The chorus was instantly catchy, a melodic earworm that promised to dominate playlists and sound systems for months to come.

The song, which was released just a day ago, has been hailed as a strong contender for Afro-Dancehall track of the year, praising the celebrated Afro-dancehall artiste’s ability to consistently evolve his sound while staying true to his core artistic identity.

Mugabe Maase blasts government for sidelining pro-NDC journalists

0

Mugabe Maase, a popular broadcaster affiliated with the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticised the government for sidelining journalists from media houses sympathetic to the party when making political appointments.

He expressed frustration that the government is rewarding journalists from other media outlets who, in his view, did little to advance the party’s agenda during the 2024 elections.

Speaking on his show on TV XYZ in a viral video shared on social media, Mugabe stated that many pro-NDC journalists who worked tirelessly to ensure the party’s victory have been unfairly neglected by the government.

“Doesn’t Bobie Ansah deserve an appointment in Mahama’s government? When we were working for the party, where were the staff of Joy FM and TV3 who have now been given appointments? Does the government remember the workers of Radio Gold? You’re appointing people from Multimedia and TV3, while staff from Radio Gold, Accra FM, and the likes of Bobie Ansah have been ignored. People are already complaining that just a few months into power, you are refusing to pick calls. I don’t want to use certain words.

“When you needed power, you called on me, Mugabe, at 1 a.m. to go to Kumasi, Tamale, and Winneba. During the launch of the NDC manifesto in Winneba, I had to sleep on the bare floor, which affected my health, and I had to rush back to Accra, missing the programme. You’ve ignored your foot soldiers and grassroots. How can a journalist from XYZ attend a government programme and be told he wasn’t invited? I will shake the foundation without fear or favour. Where were those people?

“The president, in his appointments, has forgotten about Samuel Sarpong, how is that possible? You only hear the names of people who never toiled for the party being appointed into government. Where are those who laboured for the party’s victory? I’m not trying to build a house or buy land. I don’t envy anyone, but you people should do the right thing. About 15 journalists have been appointed, yet the likes of Bobie Ansah have been sidelined. You’ve forgotten about journalists at Accra FM, Ahotor FM, Class FM.”

A list of notable journalists appointed to key roles under the Mahama administration recently went viral.

The media personalities include:

Dr Randy Abbey – CEO of COCOBOD.

Abeiku Santana – Acting Deputy Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority

Raymond Acquah – Technical and Communications Department, Ministry of Finance

Lantam Papanko – Corporate Affairs Manager, Ghana Publishing Company

Prince Minkah, Media Relations Officer – GOLDBOD

Emefa Apawu – Corporate Affairs Manager – Petroleum Hub

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Director-General, National Sports Authority

Veronica Commey – Deputy Director-General, National Sports Authority

Paa Kwasi Asare – Communications Department, Bank of Ghana

Daniel Kyerewaa was among the scorers as SC Preußen Münster demolished Magdeburg 5-0 in a stunning 2. Bundesliga Round 32 clash at the Avnet Arena.

Despite Magdeburg dominating possession with 63%, it was SC Preußen Münster who made every attack count.

Jorrit Hendrix opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 12th minute before Marc Lorenz netted twice, once from open play and another from the spot, to give the visitors a commanding 3-0 lead at halftime.

After the break, Joshua Mees blasted home a fourth from outside the box in the 52nd minute, before Kyerewaa put the icing on the cake just two minutes later. The German Ghanaian midfielder reacted quickest inside the box, slotting home with his left foot from close range. It was Kyerewaa’s second goal of the season in his 18th league appearance.

This was only SC Preußen Münster’s second-ever win against Magdeburg, who had previously won seven of the last nine meetings.

Next up for SC Preußen Münster is a tough test against Hertha BSC on May 9. Confidence will be high.

Tension Rises As Kennedy Agyapong Fires Back at Abronye With a Press Release

0

Kennedy Agyapong has officially reacted to the recent harsh words directed at him by Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a press release, Kennedy Agyapong’s team described Abronye’s insults as “regrettable” and “disappointing,” especially since he holds a leadership role in the party.

The press statement, signed by Agyapong’s personal assistant, Prince Adjei—popularly known as Guy Gee—explains that Abronye’s words could create division and confusion in the party. It warns that such attacks can provoke others to also respond with insults, which may damage the peace within the NPP.

Despite the insults, Kennedy Agyapong’s camp says they have forgiven Abronye but urges all NPP members to watch how they speak to each other. “Freedom of speech is allowed,” the statement said, “but it must be used with responsibility.”

The statement praised Kennedy Agyapong for showing loyalty and discipline in the party over the years. It encouraged party supporters not to attack Abronye in return, but rather focus on peace and discipline as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

It ended by reminding all NPP members that their real enemy is not within the party, but rather the opposition party, the NDC. It asked all patriots to work together and stay united if the NPP wants to win power again and bring development to Ghana.

The statement called on members to stop the internal fights and rather focus on building a stronger and more united NPP for the future.
