The Effutu Municipal Hospital says 29 persons have tested positive for cholera out of 356 cases recorded.
One person has been confirmed dead while contact tracing has begun according to the hospital.
The facility says the 29 confirmed cases came from the same family located within a particular area in Effutu.
The hospital says contact tracing has begun to ensure that the disease does not spread to other areas within the Municipality.
However, one person has been confirmed dead according to the Acting Municipal Superintendent of the hospital.
Dr.Douglas Amponsah noted that the individuals who have contracted the disease have been isolated and are being treated adding that the hospital is on top of the issues.
“We have set up a cholera Isolation centre due to the cholera outbreak. So far, 29 have been confirmed with cholera out of 356 cases.
“Interestingly, the majority of these cases are coming from a particular area within the Winneba locality. We have confirmed two deaths, one in October 2024, and the other one happened 2025. Most of the infected persons are children and we are trying our best to deal with the situation. The children are responding well that is the good news,” Dr.Douglas Amponsah, Acting Medical Superintendent for the Winneba Municipal Hospital said.

Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has clarified the continuous absence of Majority MPs in Parliament, stressing that they are dealing with matters related to their work.
Last Friday, Parliament adjourned the House due to lack of quorum to proceed with government business. This was as a result of the absence of MPs, mostly majority members.
Hiplife legend Reggie Rockstone has taken to Instagram to address the public outcry over the state of fellow musician Okomfour Kwadee and the blame being directed at the music industry over his plight.
In a heartfelt post, Rockstone explained that Kwadee’s struggles are a human issue, not solely the responsibility of the music industry or organisations like MUSIGA (Musicians Union of Ghana).
Rockstone expressed frustration with the public’s tendency to point fingers, questioning what individuals are doing to help beyond social media commentary.
“I’ve seen some talk on Twitter and, you know, a little bit over here and there. And it feels like the public seems to be pointing their finger at the music industry, saying that the industry has to do something for him and all that. Everybody seems to be pointing the finger. And I just started to get irritated by this.
“The public needs somebody to point a finger at. And of course, yeah, he is a comrade musically. I get it. But you, the public, the ones pointing the fingers—what are you doing besides pointing the finger and talking?” he said.
The hiplife pioneer, often referred to as the “Grandfather of Hiplife,” highlighted his own efforts in helping strangers and rehabilitating individuals, stressing that compassion should extend to everyone, not just those in the spotlight.
He reminded fans of Kwadee’s contributions to Ghanaian music, noting that many have enjoyed his songs at weddings and other celebrations.
“For years and years, this man made beautiful music for you. If anybody should be as emotional as y’all are acting, it should be you,” Rockstone stated.
Rockstone also revealed that Kwadee’s situation is more complex than the public realises, with efforts ongoing behind the scenes to support him.
He called on fans to contribute in meaningful ways, starting with prayers and financial support if possible.
“Prayers—that’s a good start. Money, if you’ve got it. Love from the heart—anything,” he urged.
Kwadee, known for hits like Abrantie and Ofie Nipa, has been in and out of rehabilitation centres and is currently with his family in the Upper East Region.

The chaos that erupted in Parliament during the vetting of ministerial nominees on January 30 has taken another dramatic turn as Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor opened up about his involvement.
Addressing the viral videos that captured him and Gushegu MP, Hassan Tampuli, locked in a tense exchange, Dafeamekpor insisted that his actions were meant to prevent a serious injury.
In an interview on TV3 monitored by MyNewsGh, he detailed what transpired, explaining that he was stepping in to protect a colleague from Western North who was in a vulnerable position.
“I was trying to prevent my colleague from Western North from being hurt by Tampuli. He was pressing him. His back was faced towards one of the tables.”
According to Dafeamekpor, his colleague was caught between two tables, one of which had already been pulled apart, making the situation even more dangerous.
“And I was standing by Akandoh and I saw what was happening to him. If I had not gone to his aid, he would have suffered some back fractures, I don’t know what would have happened to him,” he recalled.
In his attempt to separate the MPs and de-escalate the situation, Dafeamekpor found himself in a physical confrontation with Tampuli.
“So I went there to keep him from the grips of Tampuli and he held onto my Fugu and I said my brother, we are both lawyers, we can’t fight over this. If you disagree, walk away,” he said.

Pressure is mounting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to lead the party into the 2028 elections as National Chairman.
Many NPP supporters across the country believe the party’s poor performance in its final four years in government was due to a lack of strong leadership that could effectively connect the government to the party base.
As the party continues to analyze the reasons behind its 2024 electoral defeat in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, some members have identified Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader and immediate past Member of Parliament of Suame, as a figure capable of restoring discipline within the party, citing his extensive political experience and national influence.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Responds to Calls for Chairmanship
In an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Abusua 96.5fm political morning show host Kojo Marfo, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu responded to the growing calls for him to contest the chairmanship, stating that he would only accept the position if the party elects him unopposed through consensus, rather than through a nationwide campaign.
“Let me tell you something—I have always insisted that the way we elect political party leaders in this country does not serve our best interests. The major political parties, including the NPP and NDC, are all guilty of this,” he stated.
Citing Article 55, Clause 9 of the national constitution, he explained that a national executive committee member of a political party must be chosen from all regions of Ghana.
“How do you satisfy this constitutional provision if you elect the national executive committee through a competitive campaign? The constitution was careful not to say leaders should be ‘elected’ but rather ‘chosen.’ Election is one way to choose, but it is not the only way. If we build consensus, we are good to go—that is how it should be done,” he emphasised.
Election process breeds corruption
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further criticised the election-based approach to selecting party executives, arguing that it fuels corruption within political parties.
“I have always disagreed with our system of electing party executives because that is where corruption begins in our politics. If someone from Aflao wants to become the National Chairman, they are expected to campaign across the country at their own expense. Yet, according to the party’s constitution, the National Chairman is not a salaried position. What do you expect them to do when party funds come in? Naturally, they will seek to recover their campaign expenses,” he noted.
He also questioned the integrity of electing a national treasurer through a campaign process.
“Why should a party treasurer, who will be in charge of finances, have to go around campaigning and spending money on delegates? When funds come into the party, do you expect them to simply write off their campaign costs? Who would do that?” he asked.
According to him, corruption in government often starts from the way political parties conduct internal elections.
“If we build consensus and agree that we should select individuals for positions such as National Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Organizer ahead of the 2028 elections, I will fully support it,” he stated.
Will Only Accept Chairmanship by Consensus
Clarifying his stance on the calls for him to lead the NPP as National Chairman, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu declared, “If, by consensus, the party selects me, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as National Chairman, I will accept. But if I have to campaign across the country at my own expense, I will not do it. This style of campaigning is damaging the party. From polling station elections up to the national level, we have normalized a system that fuels corruption. How can we fight corruption in government if we continue to encourage this practice within our own party?” he questioned.
His remarks have sparked discussions within the NPP on whether to adopt a consensus-based approach to selecting the next National Chairman and flag bearer ahead of the 2028 elections.

Renowned Ghanaian actor Mawuli Semevo is reportedly fighting for his life after a fire broke out in his home.
According to a video shared by Beyond Burns International, an NGO dedicated to providing support for burn victims, the incident left the veteran actor with severe burns and respiratory injuries that have left him unable to breathe properly.
A representative of the organisation, Judith Addison, who spoke in the video, said Semevo was asleep when the fire erupted, leaving him with no time to escape unscathed.
The flames engulfed his entire body, from his head to his legs, resulting in the loss of all his hair and significant damage to his face.
“He has suffered burns up to 44% of his body. He has respiratory injuries and cannot breathe properly,” she stated.
Doctors are working tirelessly to stabilise him, and he is set to be intubated to assist with his breathing.
The actor’s condition has been described as “very critical,” with his life “hanging in the balance.”
Meanwhile, loved ones and well-wishers are calling for support to help cover the costs of his medical treatment.

Freight Forwarders have expressed dissatisfaction with President Mahama’s appointments
Convenor of the Indigenous Freight Forwarders, Dr. Godfred Mawuli Tettey, has called for calm among National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in Tema and Ashaiman who are expressing dissatisfaction with recent appointments by President John Dramani Mahama.
The discontent primarily revolves around the selection of Brigadier-General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
President Mahama appointed Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono, a distinguished military officer and legal professional, to the GPHA position on February 7, 2025. Prior to this appointment, Brigadier-General Tanye-Kulono served as the Deputy Commandant of the National College of Defence Studies at Burma Camp, Accra.
Some NDC supporters in Tema and Ashaiman have voiced concerns that appointing an ex-military officer may not align with the needs of the GPHA. Additionally, there is a sentiment that the president overlooked qualified local candidates from Tema, despite the region’s significant support for the NDC in the recent elections.
In response, Godfred Mawuli Tettey emphasized the importance of patience, noting that the current appointments are on an acting basis. He stated, “This is a time for cool heads to prevail, to enable the President to concentrate on the tasks ahead instead of distractions that can cause hatred and mockery to the new government.”
Tettey further urged the new appointee to be mindful of public scrutiny. “Eyes are watching them to show proof of their ability to fulfil the vision of the NDC in making the port community work again,” he added.
President Mahama has recently appointed heads to key institutions such as the Ghana Shippers Authority, the Ghana Maritime Authority, and the GPHA, all of which play crucial roles in the economy and the livelihoods of the people of Tema.

The Democracy Hub has welcomed the Attorney General’s decision to enter a nolle prosequi in the case against its convenors and members who protested against illegal mining (galamsey).
However, the group insists this does not erase the injustices they endured.
In a statement dated February 7, 2025, the group condemned the violent crackdown, illegal arrests, and inhumane treatment of protestors.
“We refuse to accept this decision as the end of the matter. The violent crackdown on peaceful demonstrators must not be forgotten,” the statement read.

Popular artiste manager and entertainment pundit Bullgod has weighed in on the ongoing concerns about the state of Ghanaian music legend Okomfour Kwadee.
According to him, the hiplife icon is fully aware of his actions and does not need to be “healed” or changed.
In a recent interview, Bullgod expressed that even if divine intervention were to occur, Kwadee would not change unless he desired to.
“Even if God comes down to earth to heal Kwadee, he can’t be healed if he doesn’t want to. Kwadee himself doesn’t want to be cured.
“He has decided to do what he is doing, sitting in the streets, freestyling, and not grooming himself. He is the one deciding to be where he is,” Bullgod stated.
He further revealed that Kwadee has family and loved ones who care for him, but the musician may not want the life they envision for him.
Bullgod also highlighted Kwadee’s unique personality, describing him as a “genius” who has always been different.
“Even in the past, interacting with him, you would notice he was special. He could say something that would make you think differently,” he recalled.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has interdicted the headmaster of Piina Senior High School, Adams Mahama Issahaku, also known as Okonkwo, following allegations of food smuggling.
Issahaku, a former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Wa East during the administration of former President John Agyekum Kufuor, was reportedly apprehended by some youth of Piina in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region.
He was caught in the early hours of Thursday, February 6, 2025, by the Lambussie Police while allegedly transporting foodstuffs, including rice and sugar.
A letter from the Upper West Regional Education Office, signed by Regional Director Razak Z. Abdul-Korah, confirmed his suspension with immediate effect, pending the outcome of a full-scale investigation. The GES emphasized that the suspension is a procedural measure and does not imply guilt.
This incident follows a recent food crisis in Senior High Schools across the country. In January 2025, acute food shortages hit schools, prompting the government to divert food supplies originally meant for disaster victims to address the issue.

To commemorate 25 years since completing school, the Achimotan 2000 Year Group is giving back to their alma mater through the construction of an 18-classroom block.
Now over 50 percent complete, the project is on track for completion ahead of November’s Speech and Prize-Giving Day.
The programme marking this milestone took place at the Achimota School on Saturday, 8th February 2025, bringing together members of the year group, and other stakeholders to inspect the progress of the project.
Chairperson of the Legacy Project, Michael Barlett-Vandarpuye, confirmed that construction is progressing steadily, with the 18-unit classroom block expected to be completed and handed over in time.
“As in the tradition of Achimota School, when you are 25 years out of school, you have to give back to the school by having a project. We started on March 6 2024, and been funded solely by contributions from the year group, with no external funds. We are appealing for support to help with the timely completion of the project.”
Architect and 2000 Year Group member, Samuel Nartey, highlighted the facility’s design, emphasising its capacity and sustainability features. “It’s an 18-unit classroom block for students, complete with a staff room, an ICT lab, a library, and washrooms. Each classroom will accommodate 50 students, bringing the total capacity to over 800. For sustainability, we will include solar panels and a borehole to serve the facility.”
The project, estimated to cost GHȼ7 million, has already utilized GHȼ7 1.4 million.
Finance Committee Chair, Kwame Asomaning-Gyimah, made a passionate appeal for additional funding to ensure timely completion. “When the project started, we estimated a total cost of GHȼ7 million. So far, we have spent close to GHȼ1.4 million. We are now looking to raise an additional GHȼ5.2 million to complete the entire project.”

President John Mahama has sworn in the fourth batch of ministers of state, who were approved by Parliament following a comprehensive vetting process and consideration by the Appointments Committee.
The event was held at Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, in compliance with Article 78(1) of the 1992 Constitution.
The newly sworn-in ministers are Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Samuel Nartey George, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, Felix Kwakye, and Seidu Issifu.
Charity Gardiner has been named Ahafo Regional Minister; Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu will lead the Savannah Region; and Wilbert Petty Brentum has been sworn in as Western North Regional Minister.
Joseph Nelson will serve as Western Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa as Bono Regional Minister, and Francis Owusu Antwi as Bono East Regional Minister. Eduamoah Ekow Panyin Okyere has been appointed Central Regional Minister, while Puozuing Charles Lwanga is in charge of the Upper West Regional Minister.
While administering the oaths of office, President John Dramani Mahama cautioned them to be cautious in their words, especially given that they will hold crucial positions in his administration.
He believes that the oath of office requires newly sworn Ministers of State to be conscious of their activities going forward.
“This oath means you shouldn’t open your mouth wide everywhere,” Mahama pointed out.
These ministers are anticipated to contribute leadership and competence to their respective ministries once they take office, thereby furthering national development and policy execution. They also planned to support a resetting of the country’s agenda aimed at bringing wealth to Ghanaians.

Former Guinness World Records contender and the mother of popular music producer and singer Ogidi Brown, Artiste Maame, has revealed her unusual habit of excessive gum chewing, stating that she chews more than 20 packs of gum daily.
Speaking on the February 9, 2025, edition of The Delay Show, Artiste Maame explained that chewing gum has become an essential part of her brand and will never get tired of it.
“I don’t get tired of chewing gum. I can chew more than 20 packs of gum in a day. I don’t feel any pain in my jaw,” she said.
When asked why she chews gum a lot. She explained, “I don’t want to speak on other people’s matters. That’s why I chew gum a lot. If I take it out and I hear something, I will talk about it.”
Artiste Maame gained public attention in February 2024 after announcing her attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest gum-chewing marathon.
She began her ambitious seven-day challenge on Friday, 9th February 2024, aiming to surpass the existing 41-hour record.
However, just seven hours into the challenge, Maame unexpectedly fell asleep, as captured in a widely circulated video.
This led to her disqualification by the Guinness World Records body.
Despite the setback, she has continued to embrace her gum-chewing persona, making it a key part of her public image.
She has also been seen in several music videos with her son.

Pressure is mounting within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for former Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, to lead the party into the 2028 elections as National Chairman.
Many NPP supporters across the country believe the party’s poor performance in its final four years in government was due to a lack of strong leadership that could effectively connect the government to the party base.
As the party continues to analyze the reasons behind its 2024 electoral defeat in both the presidential and parliamentary elections, some members have identified Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the former Majority Leader and immediate past Member of Parliament of Suame, as a figure capable of restoring discipline within the party, citing his extensive political experience and national influence.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu Responds to Calls for Chairmanship
In an exclusive interview with Kumasi-based Abusua 96.5fm political morning show host Kojo Marfo, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu responded to the growing calls for him to contest the chairmanship, stating that he would only accept the position if the party elects him unopposed through consensus, rather than through a nationwide campaign.
“Let me tell you something—I have always insisted that the way we elect political party leaders in this country does not serve our best interests. The major political parties, including the NPP and NDC, are all guilty of this,” he stated.
Citing Article 55, Clause 9 of the national constitution, he explained that a national executive committee member of a political party must be chosen from all regions of Ghana.
“How do you satisfy this constitutional provision if you elect the national executive committee through a competitive campaign? The constitution was careful not to say leaders should be ‘elected’ but rather ‘chosen.’ Election is one way to choose, but it is not the only way. If we build consensus, we are good to go—that is how it should be done,” he emphasised.
Election process breeds corruption
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu further criticised the election-based approach to selecting party executives, arguing that it fuels corruption within political parties.
“I have always disagreed with our system of electing party executives because that is where corruption begins in our politics. If someone from Aflao wants to become the National Chairman, they are expected to campaign across the country at their own expense. Yet, according to the party’s constitution, the National Chairman is not a salaried position. What do you expect them to do when party funds come in? Naturally, they will seek to recover their campaign expenses,” he noted.
He also questioned the integrity of electing a national treasurer through a campaign process.
“Why should a party treasurer, who will be in charge of finances, have to go around campaigning and spending money on delegates? When funds come into the party, do you expect them to simply write off their campaign costs? Who would do that?” he asked.
According to him, corruption in government often starts from the way political parties conduct internal elections.
“If we build consensus and agree that we should select individuals for positions such as National Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Organizer ahead of the 2028 elections, I will fully support it,” he stated.
Will Only Accept Chairmanship by Consensus
Clarifying his stance on the calls for him to lead the NPP as National Chairman, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu declared, “If, by consensus, the party selects me, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, as National Chairman, I will accept. But if I have to campaign across the country at my own expense, I will not do it. This style of campaigning is damaging the party. From polling station elections up to the national level, we have normalized a system that fuels corruption. How can we fight corruption in government if we continue to encourage this practice within our own party?” he questioned.
His remarks have sparked discussions within the NPP on whether to adopt a consensus-based approach to selecting the next National Chairman and flag bearer ahead of the 2028 elections.

A crackdown on illigal ‘dodgy firesticks’ has taken place in 15 areas targeting Sky Sports and Movies. The broadcaster has warned people they face ‘significant consequences’.
The hi-tech systems have been shut down by police in operations with the Federation Against Copyright Theft (FACT). FACT, in collaboration with police services, is intensifying efforts to disrupt and dismantle piracy operations across the country by targeting suppliers who are selling unauthorised access to premium content, including film, television and live sports.
In a two-week enforcement operation recently, FACT and police targeted 30 suppliers of illegal IPTV services. These individuals were visited in person and issued cease-and-desist warnings by post, instructing them to cease illegal activities immediately or face potential criminal prosecution.
The coordinated effort focused on disrupting the distribution of illicit Firesticks and other illegal streaming operations. The clampdown spanned locations across the UK, including London, Cheshire, Kent, Sussex, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Staffordshire, the East and West Midlands, Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Northumbria, and North Yorkshire.
Courts are increasingly imposing severe penalties for illegal streaming operations, particularly those who do not heed warnings. A private prosecution undertaken by the Premier League resulted in Jonathan Edge, a 29-year-old from Liverpool, receiving a three-year and four-month prison sentence for selling and using illicit Firesticks. Despite a prior cease-and-desist warning from FACT, the court said he ignored, Edge continued his activities. His sentence also includes a concurrent two-year and three-month term for personally accessing and viewing the pirated content he distributed.
This targeted intensification period that ran over November has already proven highly effective, resulting in the majority of the illegal services being taken down and their advertising removed from platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and X.
Kieron Sharp, CEO FACT commented: “Our cease-and-desist measures are not just warnings—they are the first step toward holding offenders accountable. Many who ignored these notices in the past are now facing arrest and criminal charges. We strongly advise anyone involved in these activities to stop immediately.
“If you’re supplying or using illicit streaming devices or illegal IPTV subscriptions, take this as a clear warning: you are breaking the law and risk facing serious consequences.
“We will continue working with police to track down and shut down these illegal operations. The police across the UK have been unstinting in their efforts to tackle this criminality and we are grateful for their assistance.
“To those using illegal streaming services, the message is that you’re not just committing a crime; you are putting yourself at risk. These services often expose users to malware, scams, and data theft, with no recourse when things go wrong. The safest, smartest and only choice is to stick to legitimate providers for your entertainment.”

Between November 2017 and June 2020, Gary McNally, 55, from Acocks Green, Birmingham ran an illegal IPTV service known as Each Online.
The service provided access to illegal streams, which included Sky Entertainment, Sky Sports and Sky Movie channels, as well as premium television content owned by other national and international broadcasters.

Krobo Edusei, a former Minister of Industry appointed by former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who was touted for his outspokenness had a large following of supporters who liked his personality.
He was widely recognized for his activism, where he successfully galvanized support among the Ashantis for Nkrumah’s independence movement, playing an instrumental role in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
Edusei’s expertise and loyalty to Nkrumah earned him several ministerial roles including serving as interior minister in 1957, Minister of Transport and Communications in 1962, and as agriculture minister in 1963.
However, a scandal involving his wife, Mary Edusei, became the downfall of his ministerial career.
In 1962, Mary Edusei purchased an $8,400 “Golden Bed” from a department store in London. In his attempt to reason with his wife to return the bed, Edusei himself travelled to London.
According to reports, Edusei told his wife that, “An $8,400 bed had no place in Ghana.”
The minister, who was widely loved by many, including his boss, became the focal point of public discourse as many criticised his decision. Critics argued that the purchase of the luxurious bed was an affront to Ghana’s austerity program further sparking protests in the country.
The incident escalated into a scandalous controversy under the Nkrumah government, causing significant embarrassment. His lavish lifestyle, which reportedly included acquiring properties worth $1,400,000 in London and Accra, was exposed, despite his annual salary of $13,550.
In the end, Edusei was sacked by Nkrumah after the purchase highlighted the escalating corruption that existed among government officials and CPP ministers.

In a setting as symbolic as St. Peter’s Square in the enclave within the Italian capital, Thomas Bach, made the rallying statement during the World Leaders’ Summit on the Rights of the Child, an event presided over by Pope Francis and held on 2 and 3 February 2025. The German official, who participated in the discussion panel titled ‘The Child’s Right to Leisure and Play’.
“Today, we are reminded of our collective responsibility: to build a better world for our children, we must act faster, aim higher, be stronger, and, above all, join hands,” he declared.
Giving a speech laden with symbolism, the IOC President emphasised that sport is not merely a physical activity but a powerful educational and social tool. “Through sport, children learn universal values such as teamwork, discipline, and fair play. They discover the importance of rules, mutual respect, and the joy of striving together towards a common goal,” he reflected.

During her burial, Barbara’s family recounted her ordeal in a heartbreaking and touching tribute. They shared that Barbara, whose late mother was a former Deputy Minister of Finance under former President John Agyekum Kufuor, had helped facilitate a visa for a relative to move abroad and assist with caring for Barbara’s children while she attended work.
Margaret Owusuwaa, the relative in question and Barbara’s mother’s cousin pleaded and begged when the conversation first arose. Barbara was in search of someone from Ghana to help babysit her second child, and after repeated pleas from Margaret and other relatives, their efforts ultimately yielded positive results.
According to the tribute which went viral on social media, Margaret received a six-month visa stay in the US. With help from Barbara and her mother, Grace Coleman, she traveled to join them.
The tribute further revealed that just days before the expiration of Margaret’s visa, she fled and reported Barbara and her husband, an American citizen, to US immigration, accusing them of enslaving her without pay.
As the incident unfolded, Barbara was apprehended by law enforcement and made to stand trial. Her mother, Grace Coleman, was relieved of her position as Deputy Minister, following demands by the US court for her to be extradited to the US to face trial for her alleged role in the matter.
Barbara faced several charges including conspiring to induce an illegal alien to come to the United States, harboring an illegal alien, harboring an alien for financial gain, forced labor, confiscating an alien’s passport and visa, making a false statement to U.S. officials, and visa fraud.
Her husband, Kenneth Blackwell, 37, was also charged with harboring an illegal alien, harboring an alien for financial gain, and recruiting an illegal alien to come to and remain in the United States.
Barbara was sentenced to five years imprisonment and her husband who is also late, was sentenced to six months of home detention and three years’ probation.

Ghanaian lawyer and member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah has urged Attorney-General Dominic Ayine to investigate the loss of state funds tied to high-profile corruption cases, despite the recent decision to discontinue prosecutions.
He expressed concern that even though the accused individuals have been freed, the financial loss remains a stain on the country in an interview on Asaase Radio’s The Forum monitored by MyNewsGH.

Reports indicate that national security officers have intercepted a massive stash of counterfeit US dollars, Ghanaian cedi notes, and suspected gold bars hidden in 12 shipping containers at a warehouse in Sapeiman, Accra.
According to multiple news reports on X, two containers are still missing, and a manhunt has been launched for suspects, including a ringleader known as Alhaji.
The containers were tracked to a warehouse around Sapeiman in the Ga South Municipality, where a special late-night operation was conducted following a tip-off.
The unspecified amount of US dollars and Ghana cedis seized by the security officials including counterfeits were hidden in twelve 20ft shipping containers.
The fake currencies, mostly bundles of US dollars, were found in wooden boxes covered with cement.
Additional currencies suspected to be counterfeit were discovered stashed in the boxes, which were sealed with plywood and covered with charcoal, reports graphiconline.com.
Two containers were still unaccounted for but were being tracked.
Boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars and fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots were also found.

Krobo Edusei, a former Minister of Industry appointed by former President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who was touted for his outspokenness had a large following of supporters who liked his personality.
He was widely recognized for his activism, where he successfully galvanized support among the Ashantis for Nkrumah’s independence movement, playing an instrumental role in Ghana’s struggle for independence.
Edusei’s expertise and loyalty to Nkrumah earned him several ministerial roles including serving as interior minister in 1957, Minister of Transport and Communications in 1962, and as agriculture minister in 1963.
However, a scandal involving his wife, Mary Edusei, became the downfall of his ministerial career.
In 1962, Mary Edusei purchased an $8,400 “Golden Bed” from a department store in London. In his attempt to reason with his wife to return the bed, Edusei himself travelled to London.
According to reports, Edusei told his wife that, “An $8,400 bed had no place in Ghana.”
The minister, who was widely loved by many, including his boss, became the focal point of public discourse as many criticised his decision. Critics argued that the purchase of the luxurious bed was an affront to Ghana’s austerity program further sparking protests in the country.
The incident escalated into a scandalous controversy under the Nkrumah government, causing significant embarrassment. His lavish lifestyle, which reportedly included acquiring properties worth $1,400,000 in London and Accra, was exposed, despite his annual salary of $13,550.
In the end, Edusei was sacked by Nkrumah after the purchase highlighted the escalating corruption that existed among government officials and CPP ministers.

Member of Parliament for WaleWale, Dr. Tia Abdul-Kabiru Mahama, has revealed the incidents that led to the controversial “daughter of a murderer” remark directed at Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings during parliamentary proceedings on February 4, 2025.
The incident occurred during a heated debate on the 60th anniversary of the death of Joseph Boakye Danquah.
In an interview on Joy News on February 9, 2025, Dr. Mahama explained that the chaos began when the MP for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, deviated from the purpose of the session, which was to eulogise JB Danquah.
Instead, Muhammed labelled Danquah a “traitor” and a “CIA agent,” referencing a book as his source. This sparked confusion and disorder in the chamber.
Amid the chaos, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Korle-Klottey, was seen assisting Muhammed by ensuring his microphone remained on after others attempted to turn it off.
Dr. Mahama noted that this action fuelled the tension, leading to the comment against her.
“Sitting by Ibrahim Murtala was Zenator Rawlings. People out of chaos were turning off Murtala’s microphone; she was the one turning it on for him to continue. In other words, Zenator was aiding and abetting in those orders. And the professor said, ‘if you stay in a glass house, don’t throw stones.’ That was what prompted the comment by that person,” he disclosed.
He emphasised that while the comment was unfortunate and unjustifiable, it stemmed from the perception that Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings was aiding Muhammed’s controversial statements.
Dr. Mahama clarified that he does not condone the remark, stating, “I will not in any day promote that a leader of that sort, Flight Lieutenant J.J. Rawlings, despite all the good things he has done for this country, someone would reduce him to a murderer.”

The Africa Centre for Digital Transformation (ACDT) has urged the National Identification Authority (NIA), the Bank of Ghana (BoG), and financial institutions to ensure that the Ghana Card functions as an ATM card.
In a press statement, ACDT commended the NIA for its efforts in advancing Ghana’s digital identity agenda and called on all stakeholders to collaborate in integrating the Ghana Card into financial transactions.
“The integration of the Ghana Card into banking and financial transactions, initiated by the previous government, will enhance financial inclusion, security, and convenience for millions of Ghanaians,” the statement read.
The organisation outlined several key measures to achieve this goal. It emphasised the importance of linking all bank accounts to the Ghana Card through a secure national database, enabling customers to conduct ATM withdrawals, transfers, and payments using the card.
To bolster security, ACDT proposed incorporating biometric authentication and PIN verification into ATM and POS systems.
It explained that users should be able to verify transactions using either their fingerprints or a unique PIN linked to their Ghana Card.
The organisation also called on banks to upgrade their ATM infrastructure to recognise the Ghana Card’s embedded chip and encouraged retailers to adopt POS systems that support Ghana Card transactions.
Additionally, it stressed the need for clear legal and security guidelines from the Bank of Ghana and financial regulators to safeguard users against fraud and cyber threats.
Public education was another key area highlighted in the statement. ACDT urged a nationwide campaign to inform Ghanaians on how to link their Ghana Card to their bank accounts and use it safely for financial transactions.
“We urge the NIA, Bank of Ghana, and all major financial institutions to expedite actions that will ensure the Ghana Card serves as an ATM card, empowering millions of Ghanaians with seamless and secure financial access,” the statement concluded.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made a startling revelation, disclosing how Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin informed him of having detailed knowledge about discussions during an NDC caucus meeting.
During an appearance on TV3 on Saturday, February 8, 2025, Ablakwa said that Afenyo-Markin informed him he was aware of the discussions and issues raised during the NDC caucus meeting, particularly regarding how Ablakwa had expressed his displeasure over his conduct at the Appointments Committee.
Ablakwa added that this happened during the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah when Afenyo-Markin called him for a brief private conversation.
However, he did not specify which individual had provided such intelligence to their opponents, despite the gravity and seriousness of the development. This incident raises concerns about potential moles and leaks within their party.
“… During the vetting of Dr. Omane Boamah which was a live proceeding, the Minority leader beckoned and gave me a signal when he walked in that he wanted to see me. When I went to see him, what we discussed was that he had just been told that the NDC had held a caucus meeting, and in that meeting, I raised some serious concerns about his conduct, and I said we must bring it to his attention and must be contained at the Appointments Committee. He did not take kindly to that. He said ‘Why do I think he is misconducting himself and that he has been told what I said at the NDC caucus meeting’,” Ablakwa said.
Ablakwa acknowledged that politicians often share friendships and bonds, contrary to the public perception of them as enemies or rivals.
However, he emphasised that incidents like this should not be normalized, stating that politicians should not take pride in easily divulging information from their camp to their opponents.
When asked by the host of the Talking Points program, Alfred Ocansey, how the Effutu Member of Parliament, their main political opponent was able to obtain such important information from an NDC caucus meeting, Ablakwa responded, “We have all kinds of friendships, but that’s clearly a matter that we shouldn’t be proud of.”
This would not be the first time Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin had obtained information from the opposing side. Even before the ministerial appointments of certain individuals by President John Dramani Mahama, Afenyo-Markin had already predicted them in Parliament.
He boldly stated in Parliament that he knew where some of the Majority MPs would be working as ministers.
He noted that Armah-Kofi Buah was going to be named the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.
Afenyo-Markin also predicted that Kwame Agbodza and Ahmed Ibrahim would be named Minister for Roads and Minister of Local Government respectively.

National Security operatives have seized a major consignment of counterfeit currency and suspected gold bars concealed in twelve 20-foot shipping containers.
The operation, carried out following an intelligence tip-off, led officers to a warehouse in Sapeiman, located in the Ga South Municipality, where the illicit cargo was discovered.

President John Dramani Mahama has assured the chiefs and people of the Western Region of his desire to prioritise the region in his government’s development agenda for the country.
He said the Region had long been the bedrock of Ghana’s economy through its rich mineral wealth like gold, cocoa, rubber, oil and timber, and contributed immensely to the country’s growth.
“… And yet for far too long, it has not received its fair share of development, and this must change.
“I am here today to assure you that under my leadership as President of the Republic of Ghana, the Western Region will take its rightful place as a priority in Ghana’s development agenda.”
President Mahama gave the assurance during a durbar of chiefs and people of the Western Region, at Sekondi, to thank them for their overwhelming support given him in the 2024 general election.
The President said the great wealth of the region must translate into better roads, quality healthcare systems, improved education, job opportunities, and a better standard of living for the people.
He said: “Today, I stand before you not just as your President, but as a son of this great land of ours, Ghana, and as a leader who believes in the potential of our people, and as a servant who is ready to work tirelessly to ensure that the Western Region and Ghana as a whole move forward into a future of prosperity, dignity and progress.”
He continued: “We stand at the dawn of a new era, and Ghana is ready for a fresh start, and the Western Region is going to be at the forefront of this transformation.”
President Mahama, thus, called on the citizenry to support the government to rebuild the country and bring prosperity to all.
“We will move forward together with hope unity and determination, and the Western Region is the heartbeat of Ghana’s progress.
“Let us, therefore, rise together and build a future that is prosperous, that is just, fair and filled with opportunities for us all,” he stated.
On some of his plans for the region, President Mahama said the government would revamp and expand the cocoa sector in Western Region to support cocoa processing companies like WAMCO and other entities under the 24-hour Economy policy.
He noted that steps would also be taken to revive the oil and gas exploration and production, while completing all abandoned projects in the region.
“We will deliver on our promises, and I am hopeful that you will see tangible life-changing developments across the region soon, as part of my efforts to rebuild and reset our country,” President Mahama added.

A staunch member of the Asante Kotoko Interim Management Committee has expressed anger over DCOP Lydia Donkor’s comments about Nana Pooley’s tragic death.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, who leads the investigation team, shockingly disclosed in an interview with JoySports that the tragic demise of the top Kotoko supporter occurred outside the stadium.
“This unfortunate incident, the fan’s stabbing, didn’t happen inside the stadium. It happened outside, and he was picked up by a tricycle and dropped at that section of the stadium,” she explained.
Her comments have intensified public outrage, prompting many to voice their frustrations and seeking justice for Nana Pooley.
However, a staunch member of the Kotoko management committee appears uncomfortable with the revelation made by DCOP Lydia Donkor.
The IMC member, whose name can not be mentioned, has reacted strongly, suggesting her comments contradict the initial reports.
“This woman is actually making so many people very pissed off. The incident happened when they got to the gate, where that China girl [Akosua Black Chinese] was standing.
“She was with the killer, and she slapped Pooley for the killer to get the opportunity to stab him. So why is she trying to say that he was not stabbed at the stadium?
“She is just trying to take herself out as the FA’s Security Head because of poor security arrangement at the venue. “To say that the incident did not happen at the stadium is a strategy to shape people’s minds that she worked perfectly, which is wrong…. because we are now gathering a lot of evidence.

Kotoko has also withdrawn from the competition “until justice is served.”
The recent uproar over alleged attacks on Dr. Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings in Parliament has reignited a long-standing debate about decorum and accountability in Ghana’s legislature.
Former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Inusah Fuseini has weighed in on the matter, cautioning against attempts to justify past misconduct with new instances of indiscipline in an interview on Joy News, monitored by MyNewsGh.
Fuseini condemned the growing trend of disruptive and inflammatory conduct among MPs, noting that Parliament is increasingly becoming defined by “indiscipline, immaturity, and impunity.”
Addressing comparisons between the attacks on Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings and previous incidents, such as those directed at Lydia Alhassan in the eighth Parliament, Fuseini rejected the notion that past wrongs should serve as a precedent for current behaviour.
“Some are beginning to argue that the majority today does not have the moral right to complain about what was said against Zanetor because of what they did against Lydia Alhassan. But if you make that argument, you clearly don’t understand what Parliament is,” he asserted.
He stressed that the ninth Parliament cannot be held accountable for the actions of the eighth Parliament, stating: “You can’t justify an action of the eighth Parliament by an action of the ninth Parliament. What happened in the past is gone, and comparisons can only serve historical purposes, not as an excuse for present misconduct.”
Attorney General has dropped charges against Dr. Asiama
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako has, on behalf of the Minority in Parliament, called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the legal suit against the newly appointed Governor of Bank of Ghana resumes.
Dr. Gideon Boako found it distasteful the president’s decision to drop the charges against Dr. Johnson Asiama and appoint him to head the Central Bank.
Speaking on the “Kokrokoo” morning show on Peace FM, he alluded to Dr. Asiama’s case pending in court whereby he has been charged with financial-related crimes.
Dr. Gideon Boako explained that the president, upon appointing the new Governor, had subsequently dropped the charges.
He also narrated that Dr. Asiama was jointly sued with former finance minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Dr. Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive of the defunct UT Bank and two others.
He therefore wonders why Asiama should be left off the hook while the others continue to stand trial.
To him, the Minority seeks for Asiama’s case to be dealt with conclusively saying “Just as the four persons including Kwabena Duffour, Amoabeng of UT Bank, have their cases pending in court, we sent them together with Asiama to court, it behoves President Mahama to allow Asiama’s case to continue in court and if the court acquits him, then we all can have the hope and guarantee that the person who is in charge of Ghana’s purse is innocent”.
Meanwhile, the Minority has admonished Dr. Johnson Asiama to refrain from engaging in any activities at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) until his nomination as the Governor is approved by the Council of State.

The tournament, which took place from January 30 to February 7, 2025, saw the Royal Ladies showcase their remarkable skill and determination, leading to a decisive victory in the final match.
The team’s strong collaboration and strategic execution have been applauded by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Sports Writers Association of Ghana as well as management, and staff of GRA.
In a goodwill message to the team before this landmark victory, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, extended his heartfelt
congratulations to the team, praising their dedication and commitment to the sport.
