Adongo cannot be better than Ato Forson – Steve Manteaw spits fire

Policy Analyst Steve Manteaw has slammed critics for comparing the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, with the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central regarding the finance ministry position.

In his view, Ato Forson possesses the expertise and experience from his tenure as Deputy Minister of Finance, making him the better candidate, over his colleague Adongo, to lead the affairs of the finance ministry.

He further argued in a Facebook post on Saturday, February 8, 2025, that his role as Minority Leader, which he executed exceptionally when the National Democratic Congress party was in opposition, solidified and demonstrated his capabilities in managing the financial sector.

Steve Manteaw has therefore opposed individuals making unhealthy comparisons between the two, urging them to cease such actions.

“Those comparing Adongo with Ato Forson should stop it. When the NDC needed a finance expert to lead the then minority in parliament, it was Ato Forson the party settled for, and he discharged his duties creditably.

“He has the experience, especially having been Deputy Minister of Finance in charge of revenue in the past NDC administration. He has what it takes to hit the ground running,” his post read.

Manteaw further emphasised that the finance ministry is crucial to the country’s economic recovery, stressing the need for someone who is well-versed and reputable, with proven experience, to take control—rather than engaging in trial and error.

He questioned the motive behind individuals campaigning for Isaac Adongo to be appointed Minister of Finance over Ato Forson, arguing that Adongo’s reputation for being ‘loud’ is not a valid indicator of his capabilities.

He, however, suggested that the combination of Ato Forson and Adongo could be a formidable force if paired together at the ministry.

“This is not the time for “ma try ma kwe”. If one contends that Adongo and Ato Forson will make a good pair, I will understand, but Adongo cannot be better than Ato Forson, just because he’s loud,” he added.

His comments follow calls from some individuals expressing concerns over the non-appointment of notable figures from the NDC, including Isaac Adongo, despite their significant contributions to the party.

Constituents of Bolgatanga Central recently voiced their frustrations over the ‘snub’ of their lawmaker but have since been urged by him to remain calm.

Boards of SOEs must be disbanded if government gives CEO positions to party faithfuls

Kofi Bentil, Vice President, IMANI-Africa Kofi Bentil, Vice President, IMANI-Africa

Vice President of policy think tank, IMANI-Africa, Kofi Bentil, has called on the government to discontinue the practice of creating boards for state agencies if party faithfuls will be rewarded with CEO positions.

He believes that these boards are pointless and no not warrant or influence decision-making in the various State Owned Enterprises.

His comments come on the back of a court writ that stated the benefits of former SIC MD, Hollister Duah-Yentumi.

Kofi Bentil in a post shared on social media stressed that, appointments should be made based on the viability and competence of the appointee and not given as reward.

“If government will simply use CEO positions to reward faithfuls, and make all important decisions, then boards of SOEs are pointless and must be disbanded. We are either serious about making State Owned Enterprises variable or we are not,” his post read.

Wendy Shay Explains Why It Is Hard For Artists To Repeat Clothes

0

Ghanaian Afrobeat singer Wendy Shay has opened up some challenges some artists face when it comes to repeating their clothes.

Speaking in a recent interview with blogger Zionfelix, the award-winning musician explained that public scrutiny often makes it hard for celebrities to wear the same outfit more than once.

Wendy Shay revealed that as a public figure, the pressure to maintain a polished image is immense, especially because fans and critics alike closely observe what celebrities wear.

“It’s really hard to repeat clothes as an artist or celebrity because fans tend to criticise you. Sometimes, they make it seem like you don’t have enough resources or aren’t doing well financially. Fans have a way of pointing out when you repeat clothes, and it can attract unnecessary trolling or negative comments,” she remarked.

The “Survivor” hitmaker further noted that in today’s social media-driven world, where pictures and videos are constantly shared and archived, the outfits celebrities wear are immediately noticed and compared. She added that sometimes she mixes her clothes up to not make it too obvious that she is repeating it.

Kevin Ekow Taylor, the Ghanaian political commentator based in the United States, has dragged rapper Sarkodie and his fans.

Taylor in a viral video is seen attacking fans of both Sarkodie and Stonebwoy, who he claims are insignificant in number when compared to fans of Shatta Wale.

According to Taylor, Sarkodie fans are mostly hungry young people who are always hailing their king hoping for some freebies from him.

The controversial commentator went on to troll Sarkodie himself, mocking him for failing to evolve his style over the years and still being stuck in his old style of rap.

Sam George calls for swift action over ‘Daughter of a Murderer’ remark

0

Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel George, has urged Parliament to take decisive action following an incident in which Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was allegedly insulted during a parliamentary session.

A voice was heard calling her the “daughter of a murderer” while Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin was addressing the House on Tuesday, February 4. The remark, believed to have come from behind the Minority Leader, has sparked widespread condemnation.

Speaking on JoyNews on Saturday, February 8, he emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to identify and sanction the culprit.

He insisted that Parliament must set a precedent to uphold its integrity.

“This is very easy to do if we are committed. I think Parliament must do this, and we must set an example,” he stated.

He further called for the use of all available resources, including CCTV footage and forensic voice analysis, to determine who remarked.

“The Marshals department must produce the CCTV footage of the chamber. It would allow us to see because nobody could have made those comments without some kind of gesticulation,” he added.

Meanwhile, Damongo MP Samuel Jinapor has denied allegations that he was responsible for the remark. Addressing the media, Mr. Jinapor insisted that such language does not reflect his character and that the accusation is completely false.

“I didn’t even know such words had been uttered. When the video was brought to my attention, I found it totally false. It cannot be correct,” he said.

He further clarified that he does not engage in verbal exchanges across the aisle, stating that he always seeks the Speaker’s recognition before making any comments in Parliament.

Ghanaians React As CLOGSAG Threatens Strike Over President Mahama’s Appointment Of New Registrar

0

The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has sparked controversy by strongly opposing the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway as the new Registrar of Births and Deaths. The union argues that Botchway’s alleged ties to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) threaten the political neutrality of the civil service. In protest, CLOGSAG has warned that they will embark on a strike if the appointment is not reversed.

CLOGSAG insists that the civil service must remain independent and free from political influence. According to the union, appointing individuals with open political affiliations compromises the trust and credibility of government institutions. They are calling on the authorities to reconsider Botchway’s appointment to protect the integrity of the civil service.

As of now, neither the government nor Samuel Adom Botchway has responded to CLOGSAG’s concerns. However, the situation is quickly gaining national attention, with Ghanaians expressing strong opinions on the matter.

The announcement has triggered heated debates on social media, with many Ghanaians sharing their views on CLOGSAG’s position. Some believe the union is overreacting, while others think their concerns are justified.

@Citizenyao commented “CLOGSAG is getting it wrong. The registrar is appointed under Article 195, just like all other staff. The registry is now a public service institution, not a civil service institution.”

@mafison1 wrote “Sack all of these ones. They never opposed a single appointment of Nana Addo because they knew the consequences. If any union threatens the government, those behind the press conference should be sacked because they are enemies of the state.”

@John77 says “So, invoke the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court since there is a ruling. Why issue threats?”

@mrpayne commented “What are they waiting for then? That press release was not needed. There are men and women who are ready to work without engaging in these silly gimmicks.”

Screenshots of some reactions from Netizens

The situation remains tense as Ghanaians await an official response from the government. With CLOGSAG standing firm on its demand, the coming days will determine whether the appointment will proceed or if the government will be forced to take action. One thing is certain this controversy is far from over.

No man can look me in the eye and say he loves another woman

0

Media personality, Abena Moet Media personality, Abena Moet

Media personality Abena Moet has stated that no man she has been in a relationship with has ever informed her that he is in love with another woman.

She noted that even the wealthy men she has dated in the past did not exhibit such behavior in her presence.

The entertainment journalist asserted that it is disrespectful for one’s partner to profess love for another woman during an interaction.

Speaking on the Toast show aired on GHOne, Moet expressed her frustrations about men and their behavior in relationships.

“Men are selfish! Sometimes, I wonder, no man can ever look me in the eye and claim he truly loves another woman! Even the rich ones I dated, how dare you?

No man in my entire life has ever been able to look me in the eye and say, ‘I am with this girl!’ How can you even lie? Most of the time, they will lie! But this one, he has lost all sense of respect for you to the extent that he doesn’t even want to lie anymore!” she said.

She also indicated that such an act would be a betrayal of love to the woman in a relationship.

“After all these years, you didn’t think about everything we’ve been through? You didn’t consider how I’ve been there for you? You met someone new, and I caught you.

“And now, you want to tell me you’re in love with her? No man I’ve been with can ever look me in the eye and say, ‘I’m in love with that girl!’ You must be mad!” she stated.

Reactions trail Mahama’s ban on first class air travels

0

Social media users have been thrilled following the announcement by President John Dramani Mahama to ban first-class air travels for air travel.

During the swearing-in ceremony of some ministers of state on February 7, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama announced a ban on first-class travel for government appointees, emphasising that his administration will be marked by modesty and respect for the people of Ghana.

While some have noted that this is a commendable directive by the president, others believe not a lot of officials use first class when they travel, therefore the move may not necessarily be a significant one.

A user on X, NanaDarko__ wrote: “Mahama’s ‘ban’ on first-class flights for government officials is merely a political theatric. It’s like banning Kevin Taylor from speaking sense – he wasn’t even going to speak sense anyway.”

However, John Kwakye of the IEA wrote: “President Mahama has started his administration on a promising and reassuring note–lean, modest, accountable and responsive Gov’t–in line with his campaign promises and learning lessons from his first Presidency. This is new in Ghanaian politics!”

The president stressed that public officials must be mindful of how they use state resources.

He also stated that he had directed the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, to officially inform ministers and government appointees of an immediate restriction on non-essential travel.

“Any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Office of the Chief of Staff and such travels will have to be taken in modesty; no first class,” he said.

How DeepSeek AI can affect the Ghanaian tech market

0

Stella Dziedzorm Sogli sits with Ralph Gerbs play videoStella Dziedzorm Sogli sits with Ralph Gerbs

DeepSeek is a Chinese AI-powered chatbot that has in the past few days risen to compete with US’ ChatGPT and led to a crash in the global stock market.

According to reports, the app’s sudden popularity was attributed to its cheap and affordable nature as well as its similarity to already existing AI.

DeepSeek’s reportedly low costs threw the stock markets into a spin costing chip-manufacturing companies over $600 million in losses.

DeepSeek was launched in July 2023, but its AI assistant app was not released in the US until January 10.

CEO and founder of Ghanaian fintech, CediRates, Ralph Gerbs said DeepSeek is a good thing for consumers since it is free as compared to ChatGPT which charges its users.

Speaking to GhanaWeb Business’ Stella Dziedzorm on this week’s edition of BizTech, he said DeepSeek being open source is a good thing for developers in Africa since they have limited access to investments.

“US investors may not need to bring their investments to Africa since they have the expertise in their country, therefore software like DeepSeek may broaden the scope for developers,” he noted.
