The Enugu State Police have denied claims that a young woman was killed and had her organs removed in a hotel in Nsukka.
Police spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe said the story is false and could cause panic. He explained that early investigations showed no signs of organ removal, though the woman had a swollen neck and blood around her mouth, which may point to strangulation.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, arrived in Accra on Wednesday to a rousing welcome at the start of a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between India and Ghana.
In a significant gesture, President John Dramani Mahama personally received the Indian Prime Minister at the Kotoka International Airport, where the two leaders shared a warm embrace, symbolising the strong diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Expressing his gratitude for the warm reception, Prime Minister Modi took to Facebook shortly after his arrival, stating: “Landed in Accra, Ghana. I’m honoured by the special gesture of President John Dramani Mahama for welcoming me at the airport.”
“Our nations look forward to working together to strengthen our long-standing relationship and explore fresh avenues for collaboration,” the leader of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who became the Prime Minister in 2014, added.
The visit marks the first time in about 30 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Ghana.
Later in the day, the Prime Minister engaged with members of the Indian community in Accra amid enthusiastic cheers and cultural performances.
“Gladdened by the incredible warmth shown by the Indian community here in Accra, Ghana. The spirit of togetherness and the deep cultural linkages are truly wonderful,” he wrote in another Facebook post.
The visit is expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key sectors such as trade, technology, education and infrastructure.
Schedule
The leaders will hold bilateral engagement, sign many agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on various sectors of mutual benefits to both countries.
The talks are focused on agriculture, health, defence cooperation and the establishment of a joint commission.
There will also be discussions towards making Ghana the vaccine hub of Africa.
Among agreements to be signed would be an MoU between the Institute of Traditional and Alternative Medicine of the University of Ghana.
Prime Minister Modi will also be hosted to a state banquet, where he will be conferred with the country’s highest honour, “The Companion of the Order of the Star of Ghana.”
He will also address Parliament today and pay his respects to the memory of Ghana’s first President at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
Ghana and India have a special bond of friendship which commenced between Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, and India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.
Dr Nkrumah and Nehru played a pivotal role in shaping global politics during the Cold War era.
Together, they conceived the idea of non-alignment, a movement that aimed to promote peace and cooperation among nations without taking sides in the rivalry between the Soviet Union and the United States.
The initiative has been widely recognised as a significant contribution to global peace and stability.
The two countries have since enjoyed warm and friendly relations, built on a foundation of shared values and a common vision. It is not surprising that the Indian High Commission is located near the seat of Ghana’s government, the Jubilee House, which was also designed and built by an Indian company.
Trade volume between the two countries currently stands at $3 billion, down from a pre-COVID high of $4.5 billion, with gold being a major commodity driving the partnership.
There are many Indian companies operating in the country in the manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agribusiness and retail business sectors, among other areas.
A 62-year-old businesswoman, Nana Ama Nwarueze, also known as Ohemaa, has been arraigned before the Achimota Circuit Court for allegedly defrauding a businessman of $80,000 under the pretense of selling four plots of land situated at East Legon, according to a report by Graphic Online.
According to court documents, the accused falsely presented herself as the rightful owner of the land and succeeded in convincing the complainant, Roger Agbavor, to part with the money.
The prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stephen Ahiale, has charged Nwarueze with one count of fraudulent land transaction and another count of defrauding by false pretence.
The report states that Nwarueze has pleaded not guilty to both charges and was granted bail by the presiding judge, Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong. The court, however, referred the case to the Attorney-General’s Department on the grounds that the monetary value involved exceeds the prosecutorial limits of the police.
In addition to the Achimota case, Nwarueze is also facing three separate fraud cases at the Adabraka District Court, presided over by Abena Asoh Owusu-Omenyo.
In the first case, she is accused of posing as a wealthy business mogul, claiming ownership of luxury properties including the Ohemaa Plaza in East Legon, several fishing vessels in Takoradi, and a house at Airport Residential Area. Using these false claims, she allegedly defrauded another complainant of $13,000. She has been charged with one count of defrauding by false pretence in this case.
In the second case, the prosecution alleges that Nwarueze defrauded a pastor of GH¢170,000 under the guise of needing funds to clear goods from the Tema Port. She reportedly issued two blank cheques as a means of refund, but both cheques bounced. She has been charged with two counts of defrauding by false pretence in this matter.
In the third case, Nwarueze is accused of defrauding a CCTV technician of GH¢9,000 by claiming she could secure him an American visa. She is currently standing trial for this allegation as well.
At the Adabraka District Court, the accused has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties, one of whom must be justified.

The Trade Week Summit (GITW) was held at the Accra International Conference Centre
The Founder and Senior Partner of AB & David Africa, Dr David Ofosu Dorte (Esq.), has expressed concerns over the common practice in Ghana’s Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreements, where the public sector takes the lead in conducting feasibility studies for projects.
According to him, it doesn’t “make sense” for the public sector to conduct feasibility studies for PPP projects, as it has contributed significantly to Ghana’s high public sector debt.
“We have borrowed huge amounts of money to do feasibilities that we have not delivered,” Dr. Dorte stated while speaking as the keynote speaker at the 2025 Ghana Investment and Trade Week Summit (GITW) held at the Accra International Conference Centre on July 2, 2025.
The GITW 2025 summit, themed “Constructing Prosperity: Advancing Industrial Growth Through Smart Infrastructural Planning,” brought together local and international investors to explore potential areas for investment in Ghana.
Dr Dorte explained that instead of conducting feasibility studies, the government should focus on carrying out pre-feasibility studies and concept notes for PPP projects.
This approach, he noted, would help minimize risks and save money.
He emphasised that PPPs come with risks that, if not managed well, could harm the public sector.
“Many PPP projects have failed in Ghana because the risks associated with them were borne by our governments,” he said, adding that these risks can be aggravated or external, requiring careful management.
Against this backdrop, Dr Dorte recommended the creation of an ecosystem that encourages a stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, adding that there should also be the political will to see to the end of PPP projects.
He cautioned that oftentimes utterances public officials who also hold party positions have tend to drive away investors.
“We should be careful about statements we make when we hold both public and party positions,” he cautioned.
Furthermore, he called for the need for “our governments to structure PPP projects without bloating the public sector debt which often leads to chaos.”
The President of the National House of Chiefs (NHC), Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi III, who was the Chairman for the occasion, underscored the importance of smart infrastructure planning in driving industrial growth and prosperity in Ghana.
He said chiefs were vital enablers of inclusive development, and their presence signified a shared commitment to the country’s future.
According to him, PPPs have provided approximately $10 billion in infrastructure investments in the West African region, but Ghana has received relatively small amounts.
He, therefore, urged the adoption of blended finance models to attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and stimulate growth.
The President of NHC also highlighted the need to empower Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), which should not be seen as peripheral to the economy.
He noted that Ghana achieved 3.2% growth in 2024, led by the private sector, and affirmed that investing in infrastructure is key to driving factory development and overall growth.
Ogyeahoho Gyebi III encouraged the private sector to approach this era with confidence and innovation, promising support to the construction and build industry.
In a welcoming address, the Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI), Emmanuel Tetteh Martey, said the theme is not only relevant but also aligns with the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative and the Big Push, among others.
He called for a collective purpose to drive a modern, resilient, and prosperous Ghana.
“Infrastructure is the heartbeat of a nation’s development, laying the foundation for trade and job creation,” he stated.
The GhCCI Chairman commended the Mahama administration for its development agendas, including the Big Push and the 24-Hour Economy.
“The Big Push is not merely a slogan, but a significant employment and transformation initiative,” he noted.
However, Martey stressed that a 24-hour economy requires a reliable power source and good infrastructure.
In this regard, he reaffirmed the GhCCI’s commitment to supporting the government in developing a prosperous Ghana that benefits all Ghanaians.

Captain Ibrahim Traoré has completed the renovation of the August 4th Stadium
After four long years of exile, the Stallions are finally coming home. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have officially reinstated Ouagadougou’s iconic August 4th Stadium for international competition, marking a symbolic and practical triumph for Burkina Faso under the bold leadership of Captain Ibrahim Traoré.
According to a CAF report dated July 1, 2025, the approval means the Burkina Faso national team could make an emotional return to their beloved home ground as early as the next international break.
For Burkinabe fans, this is far more than a sporting milestone; it is a testament to the country’s renewed spirit and determined transformation.
Once a faded symbol of national pride, the August 4th Stadium has undergone a sweeping makeover as part of President Traoré’s ambitious plan to restore Burkina Faso’s vital infrastructure and national confidence.
On May 7, 2025, Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ouédraogo toured the site himself to inspect a project that has since exceeded expectations.
The transformation has been nothing short of remarkable: from fresh turf and a fully refurbished athletics track to modern locker rooms, new restrooms, an upgraded gym, and a redesigned VIP stand.
The stadium’s corridors now celebrate the nation’s rich footballing history through striking portraits, a powerful reminder to young Burkinabe that greatness is rooted in their soil.
A new press box, equipped to host 80 journalists, signals Burkina Faso’s readiness to welcome the world back to Ouagadougou.
But for President Traoré’s administration, the renovation is about more than a grand reopening. It reflects a broader, results-driven governance style, one that honours the sacrifices of ordinary citizens through visible, lasting progress.
During his visit, Prime Minister Ouédraogo praised the workers’ dedication and the companies’ professionalism but stressed accountability and sustainability.
With clear instructions for a robust maintenance plan, the stadium’s revival sets a new standard for managing public investments in Burkina Faso.
CAF’s seal of approval marks an important milestone for Burkina Faso’s football ambitions.
With the Stallions now set to return to their historic home ground, the refurbished August 4th Stadium stands as a symbol of the country’s commitment to restoring key infrastructure and supporting its sporting tradition.

Ghanaian rap icon Tinny, known for hits like Makola Kwakwe and Incomplete, has opened up about why he is returning to his Ga roots in music. According to the rapper, performing in Twi never felt authentic, and he is now embracing the language and culture that defines him.
The revelation came during a heartfelt conversation with Joy FM’s Lexis Bill on the “Personality Profile” show, aired on Thursday, July 4, 2025.
“I wasn’t original rapping in Twi. I’m Ga and that’s where my voice truly lives,” Tinny shared.
“Rapping in Twi Wasn’t Me”
Tinny explained that while rapping in Twi gave him commercial success and national reach, it didn’t fully reflect who he was at his core.
“I had to jump on Twi rap because that was what was trending. But deep down, I always felt I was compromising who I truly am,” he confessed.
He admitted that over time, he began to feel detached from his craft, prompting the decision to reconnect with his Ga heritage both musically and personally.
Who Is Tinny?
Tinny Nii Addo Quaynor, popularly known as Tinny, is one of the early pioneers of Ga rap in Ghana’s hiplife scene. His career took off in the early 2000s with bold lyrics, energetic delivery, and a unique urban Ga sound.
Career highlights:
Hit singles: Makola Kwakwe, Incomplete, Ringtone, Zingolo
Known for fusing Ga street culture with mainstream hiplife
Often praised for lyrical originality and stage presence
One of the first Ghanaian rappers to headline major corporate events
Why His Ga Return Matters
1. Language & Cultural Revival
Tinny’s decision speaks to a larger cultural awakening among Ghanaian artists. As Ga gradually loses space in mainstream media, his return brings attention to preserving indigenous languages through art.
2. Authenticity in Artistry
Many artists chase trends to remain relevant. Tinny’s bold move highlights the importance of being authentic rather than conforming.
3. Inspiration for the Next Generation
Tinny hopes young Ga artists will be proud of their identity and rap in their mother tongue without fear of being sidelined.
“The new boys coming up should know that your language is your power. Don’t be shy of it,” he advised.
What’s Next for Tinny?
The rapper hinted at an upcoming EP performed entirely in Ga, showcasing deep cultural stories, street narratives, and vibrant beats from Jamestown and beyond.
He also plans to mentor emerging Ga-speaking musicians through live sessions, community rap battles, and mentorship programs in Accra.
“I’m not just making music—I’m building a legacy for my people.”
Public Reactions
Fans have responded with overwhelming support on social media:
“We missed the real Tinny. The streets are ready for the Ga banger season!”
“Finally! Time to return to original Ghana vibes—not copy-paste music.”
“Big ups to Tinny. Culture is power!”
Why This Story Matters
In an age where trends often overshadow tradition, Tinny’s shift back to Ga-language rap reminds us that authenticity still has a voice in Ghana’s music scene.
As many artistes lean toward Afrobeats and foreign sound, his bold cultural pivot is refreshing—and possibly trendsetting.

The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, has firmly rejected the decision by the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
This announcement comes in the wake of disputes regarding the validity of the election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
In a candid interview with Channel One Newsroom on July 2, Afriyie expressed her deep dissatisfaction with the EC’s ruling, emphasising that the election process was nearly complete before this unexpected decision was made.
She pointed out that the collation of votes had been finalised in all but three polling stations, raising significant questions about the timing and reasoning behind the EC’s sudden shift.
“According to the EC, they had previously testified under oath in Parliament that only three polling stations remained to be declared. Therefore, the call for a rerun seems unjustifiable,” she stated, highlighting the inconsistencies in the EC’s actions.
Afriyie further scrutinised the integrity of the EC’s decision-making process, alleging that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) may be manipulating the situation to their advantage.
“I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so what changed? We had the EC coming to Parliament, swearing under oath that we have only three polling stations left, and consistently, that is what it has been so far,” she explained.
The implications of this decision are significant, as the NPP has consistently held the Ablekuma North seat, and any disruption in the electoral process could impact voter sentiment ahead of the upcoming elections.
Afriyie’s assertive stance reflects not only her commitment to her party’s position but also the broader tensions surrounding electoral integrity in Ghana.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, the response from the EC and the NDC will be closely monitored, particularly as the nation gears up for the pivotal elections ahead.

The World Bank Board of Executive Directors, approved $360 million from the International Development Association for the Second Resilient Recovery Development Policy Financing operation in Ghana.
The operation is part of a broader World Bank engagement for crisis response and resilience in the country, and it is hoped the new investment will provide macroeconomic stability and sustainable conditions for job growth in Ghana.
Along with providing stability and fiscal sustainability, other objectives of the operation are to improve energy sector financial discipline, ensuring efficient management and operations, and strengthen social and climate resilience to foster sustainable development.
Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, said the operation has “strengthened macroeconomic stability, restored investor confidence, and laid a solid foundation for sustained economic recovery and inclusive growth,” and that the measures will “help our efforts to enhance fiscal discipline and build a more resilient and inclusive economy, capable of withstanding future shocks.”
Historically, Ghana has relied upon international loans and donations for economic development, especially in the 20th century after independence.
Earlier in June, 2025 the Bank of Ghana expressed confidence in Ghana’s economy when it said that the Ghanaian cedi is stable after it appreciated in value by 19% between April and May, 2025 against the US dollar.
However, the Bank of Ghana said that stability is not enough given the inflation rates within the country, and the uncertain international economic outlook.
Division Director for Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone for the World Bank, Robert Taliercio, echoed this sentiment, saying that “Entrenching fiscal and debt sustainability, improving the business environment to attract investment and create jobs, addressing the long-rooted energy sector challenges, and protecting the most vulnerable – measures supported by this financing – continue to be urgent prioritiesfor Ghana.”
He also said these are “essential steps” in dealing with domestic problems within Ghana, adding that “We look forward to continuing to support Ghana to accelerate and deepen these reforms going forward.”
In a landmark moment for Ghana-India relations, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Ghana for a historic two-day official visit the first by an Indian Prime Minister in 30 years.
President John Dramani Mahama warmly welcomed Modi upon his arrival, setting the stage for high-level talks between the two leaders aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation across trade, investment, technology, and development.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has warned the public against some unlicensed investment products being advertised by News GH and Ghana News and on various social media platforms.
A statement issued by SEC on Tuesday warned the general public to be vigilant and to desist from investing in the unlicensed products.
“News GH – advertising an unlicensed investment product called “Gold AI Rise Platform. Ghana News – advertising an unnamed unlicensed investment product, promising unrealistic returns at no risk” the statement said.
According to SEC, it had not licensed any of the above-mentioned entities to carry out capital market activities, as mandated by Section 3 of the Securities Industry Act, 2016 (Act 929) as amended.
“The SEC is currently collaborating with law enforcement agencies to clamp down on the people behind these entities,” it assured.
The statement said SEC would maintain surveillance over activities in the securities industry and to protect investors by publishing at regular intervals information it deems relevant to the public.
“The general public is further advised to refer to the SEC through its toll-free line number 0800100065/main-line number 0302768970-2 or alternatively send an email to [email protected] to confirm the licensing status of any entity offering products or services relating to investments in the Capital Market,” it said.
Ghana’s local currency, the cedi, has depreciated slightly on the interbank market against major trading currencies, particularly the US dollar.
In its daily update, the Bank of Ghana noted that the cedi is trading at a buying price of GH¢10.31 and a selling price of GH¢10.32 to the dollar.
The British pound is being bought at GH¢14.05 and sold at GH¢14.06, while the euro is trading at a buying price of GH¢12.16 and a selling price of GH¢12.17.
Checks by GhanaWeb Business on July 3, 2025, at 8:30 AM indicate that the cedi is trading at GH¢12.60, while the pound is selling at GH¢17.20 at some forex bureaus across the country.
Additionally, the euro is trading at GH¢14.80 on the retail market.
Meanwhile, the Bank of Ghana has announced that Ghana is expected to receive $360 million from the IMF in July 2025 to further stabilise the cedi.

The 2024 presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP) and former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Janet Asana Nabla, has strongly condemned what she describes as targeted abuse and political intimidation against the Chief Justice of Ghana.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, July 1, after presenting a petition to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace, Madam Nabla expressed deep concern over what she sees as a calculated attempt by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to compromise the independence of the judiciary and victimise women in key positions of authority.
According to her, the petition was prompted by what she called the “humiliating and inhumane treatment” of the suspended Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo during recent investigations. She alleged that Justice Torkornoo was thoroughly searched before entering the investigation venue and denied the presence and emotional support of her husband and daughter.
“The ordeal she went through brought tears to my eyes,” Madam Nabla said. “A whole Chief Justice of the Republic was subjected to such degrading treatment. It is an insult not only to her but to all Ghanaian women.”
The petition, which was received by Madam Monica, Office Assistant to the Chief of Staff at the Manhyia Palace, outlined what Madam Nabla termed “systemic abuse of judicial independence,” and accused the Mahama-led NDC administration of influencing the judiciary to silence dissent and consolidate power.
“When certain political parties are in power, the judiciary operates like an extension of that party,” she claimed, and added, “People who take legal action against that party are given no hearing. It’s a dangerous trend for our democracy.”
“We are not doing this because of which party the woman belongs to. Whether NPP or NDC, when a woman is being abused, they don’t check her party card before the assault,” she added. “This is not about politics. This is about justice and respect for women.”
In explaining the reason behind the group’s appeal to the Asantehene, she said traditional authorities predate modern democratic structures and remain the true custodians of the land. “If democracy is failing us, we must return to our roots. Otumfuo is not just a cultural figure; he is a moral voice in the nation,” she said.
She also criticised the government’s decision to hold a “National Thanksgiving Service” amid what she described as ongoing injustice and political vindictiveness.
“How can you give thanks to God when you are punishing your enemies, whether they’re guilty or not?” she asked. “This should have been a National Day of Repentance, not a thanksgiving.”
A husband was left heartbroken after he walked in on his wife in bed with another man.
In a video that has since gone viral, the husband, visibly enraged, launched a physical attack on both his wife and the man she was caught with. The incident, reportedly captured on a mobile phone, shows the husband mercilessly beating the two after discovering their affair.
Ahead of the second phase of the Integrated Business Establishment Survey (IBES) set for July 10, Government Statistician Dr. Iddrisu Alhassan has underscored the critical role accurate business data plays in shaping effective national policy.
The survey, which will cover over 44,000 businesses across the country, aims to build a comprehensive business register and offer valuable insights into the structure of Ghana’s economy.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of a training programme for IBES field officers, Dr. Alhassan appealed to businesses to support the initiative, stressing that their cooperation is essential for promoting a transparent and responsive economic environment.
“We want to assure businesses that the information provided will not be used to penalize them in any way. On the contrary, it will be used to drive national development,” he said.
He called on all businesses to warmly receive IBES field officers when they arrive to collect data.
“Please welcome them. Know that these young men and women have undergone rigorous training and are committed to the highest standards. The data collected will be securely handled and used solely for development purposes,” Dr. Alhassan added.
Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Big Akwes has apologised to singer Cina Soul after making disturbing comments about her during an appearance on Bryt TV that sparked public outrage.
The incident happened during a segment on Bryt TV where Big Akwes took part in a game called “Kiss, Marry, Kill.” When asked to choose between actress Vivian Jill and singer Cina Soul, he said he would marry Vivian Jill. However, what followed shocked viewers.
Big Akwes graphically stated that he would “kill Cina Soul,” going as far as to describe how he would use a magic mirror to summon her, stab her with a knife, and drink her blood. Many people who watched the video found his words violent and troubling.
On July 1, 2025, Cina Soul reacted to the video on social media. She stated that she felt threatened by Big Akwes’ comments and tagged the Ghana Police Service and the Minister of Communication, asking them to look into the matter.
Her post went viral, and netizens criticised both Big Akwes and Bryt TV for allowing such language to be aired.
In response to the backlash, Bryt TV invited Big Akwes back on air to clarify his comments. During the follow-up appearance, Big Akwes said he never meant any harm and insisted that his words were only meant to entertain.
“This was meant purely for entertainment purposes; I never intended to actually harm her. I even learned that her mother was scared by what I said, and for that, I’m truly sorry. Mummy, please don’t let this weigh on your heart. If my words made you believe that I would harm Cina Soul, that was not my intention at all. It was just for entertainment. I sincerely apologize if my comments caused panic for Cina Soul, her family, close friends, or anyone connected to her. I have no malicious intentions toward her,” Big Akwes said.
Bryt TV also issued an apology in the caption of the video they posted about Big Akwes’ apology. They acknowledged the public’s concerns and apologised to both Cina Soul and their viewers.
“In light of the public reaction to a recent segment featuring Kumawood actor Big Akwes, we have taken steps to address the sentiments expressed, in line with our values as a media platform. We extend our sincere apology to singer @cina_soul and our cherished audience for any unintended offense caused during the ‘Kiss, Marry, Kill’ segment. We remain committed to upholding respect and responsibility in our content,” the caption read.

A renowned African entrepreneur and philanthropist, Tony Elumelu, has underscored the critical role of the youth and women in Africa’s development trajectory.
Speaking on a topic; “Decades of Delivering on Shared Aspiration: The transformational collaboration between Afreximbank and African Multinational Corporations and Banks” at the just ended 32nd Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), held in Abuja, Elumelu called for bold, inclusive strategies to unlock the continent’s full potential.
He has further emphasized that Africa’s demographic dividend — its vast youth population—must be seen not as a challenge but as a powerful asset.
“We cannot talk about Africa’s future without placing our youth and women at the center of our development agenda,” he said, drawing applause from a packed audience of policymakers, business leaders, and development partners.
He argued that empowering women and young people through entrepreneurship, education, and access to finance is not just a moral imperative but an economic necessity.
“When we invest in women and youth, we invest in innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth,” Elumelu stated, referencing the success of his foundation’s entrepreneurship programme, which has supported one million youth and over 18,000 African startups across 54 countries.
A key highlight of his submission was the urgent need for reliable electricity across the continent.
Elumelu, whose investments span energy, banking, and hospitality, stressed that without consistent power supply, Africa’s ambitions in technology, manufacturing, and industrialization would remain stunted.
“Electricity is the oxygen of modern economies. Without it, our dreams of digital transformation and industrial competitiveness will suffocate,” he warned.
He praised Afreximbank’s role in financing infrastructure and trade, noting that its collaboration with African multinationals has been instrumental in driving cross-border commerce and regional integration.
“This Bank has not only financed trade — it has financed hope,” Elumelu said, citing examples of successful partnerships that have catalyzed growth in sectors such as energy, agriculture, and logistics.
The 2025 Annual Meetings, themed “Building the Future on Decades of Resilience”, brought together over 6,000 delegates from across Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. The event served as a platform for high-level dialogue on trade, investment, and innovation, with leaders such as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and global economists like Professor Jeffrey Sachs in attendance.
Elumelu’s remarks resonated deeply with the conference’s broader agenda of fostering inclusive prosperity and self-reliance. His call to action—“Let us build an Africa where no one is left behind” — was met with a standing ovation, signaling widespread support for his vision of a more equitable and electrified continent.
In a post-session interview, Elumelu reiterated his belief in the power of public-private partnerships to drive systemic change.
“Governments must create the enabling environment, but it is the private sector that will deliver the jobs, the innovation, and the infrastructure,” he said, urging African leaders to prioritize policy reforms that attract investment and reduce the cost of doing business.

The TikToker, identified as Nana Akosua, left social media in stitches after sharing a voice note in which she confidently declared her intention to marry Oheneba Nana Kwame Kyeretwie, the son of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced that it will conduct a rerun of the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency following the dispute over the authenticity of election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
In a press release dated July 2, and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the EC, the Commission stated that the decision was reached after a follow-up meeting with representatives of the two main political parties—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025.
The dispute stems from concerns raised by the NDC over the use of scanned Pink Sheets from 37 polling stations, which the party claims were provided by the NPP and lacked sufficient verification. The NDC insisted that the entire election be rerun in those 37 stations.
On the other hand, the NPP maintained that only three outstanding polling station results needed to be collated to finalize the outcome, arguing that the scanned Pink Sheets had already been verified by NDC agents during the process.
The EC clarified that the issue at hand revolves around the fact that scanned Pink Sheets—documents used to record polling station-level results—were used in the collation after physical copies were destroyed when political party supporters stormed the collation centre.
Following extensive deliberations, the EC has resolved to rerun the election in 19 of the 37 polling stations, citing that although the scanned results from these stations were approved by both party agents, they lacked verification by the Presiding Officers. The remaining 18 scanned results, the Commission noted, were verified by both the agents and the Presiding Officers and will therefore not be subject to a rerun.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025, and the Commission has assured the public of its commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity throughout the process. The Ghana Police Service has been called upon to provide adequate security to ensure a peaceful and orderly conduct of the election.

Nigerian Comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has defended music icon, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2Baba following his public apology to his lover, Natasha Osawaru.
Naija News reports that the legendary artiste sparked reactions after saying men are not wired to be sexually committed to just one woman.
Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, has stated that there was no such agreement with the Electoral Commission to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
He asserted that the NPP do not know of any election, and insisted that the EC conclude the collation on the three polling stations that are still outstanding.
The Founder and Senior Partner of AB & David Africa has expressed concerns over the common practice in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreements, where the public sector takes the lead in conducting feasibility studies for projects.
According to Dr David Ofosu Dorte, it doesn’t “make sense” for the public sector to conduct feasibility studies for PPP projects, as it has contributed significantly to Ghana’s high public sector debt.
“We have borrowed huge amounts of money to do feasibility studies that we have not delivered,” Dr. Dorte stated.
He was speaking as the keynote speaker at the 2025 Ghana Investment and Trade Week Summit (GITW) held at the Accra International Conference Centre on July 2, 2025.
The GITW 2025 summit, themed “Constructing Prosperity: Advancing Industrial Growth Through Smart Infrastructural Planning,” brought together local and international investors to explore potential areas for investment in Ghana.
Dr. Dorte explained that instead of conducting feasibility studies, the government should focus on carrying out pre-feasibility studies and concept notes for PPP projects.
This approach, he noted, would help minimise risks and save money.
He emphasised that PPPs come with risks that, if not managed well, could harm the public sector.
“Many PPP projects have failed in Ghana because the risks associated with them were borne by our governments,” he said, adding that these risks can be aggravated or external, requiring careful management.
Against this backdrop, Dr Dorte recommended the creation of an ecosystem that encourages a stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors, adding that there should also be the political will to see the end of PPP projects.
He cautioned that often, utterances by public officials who also hold party positions have tended to drive away investors.
“We should be careful about statements we make when we hold both public and party positions,” he cautioned.
Furthermore, he called for the need for “our governments to structure PPP projects without bloating the public sector debt, which often leads to chaos.”
Ogyeahoho Gyebi III encouraged the private sector to approach this era with confidence and innovation, promising support to the construction and building industry.
However, Mr. Martey stressed that a 24-hour economy requires a reliable power source and good infrastructure.
In this regard, he reaffirmed the GhCCI’s commitment to supporting the government in developing a prosperous Ghana that benefits all Ghanaians.

Ghanaian rapper Amerado has responded to criticism regarding his public inquiry about the removal of his interviews from media personality Delay’s YouTube channel. On June 29, 2025,
Amerado posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) featuring himself and Delay (Deloris Frimpong Manso) with the caption: “Your interviews with me are no more on your channel. How did we get here?”
The post sparked significant online debate, with many users suggesting the artist should have addressed the matter privately given their past rapport. Critics highlighted the duo’s collaborative history, including joint projects and public appearances, arguing the public callout breached personal etiquette.
Amerado countered on June 30, asserting the appropriateness of his approach: “Do you think a public interview on a public platform is a private matter? If you can’t bear public information, don’t even think of private.” He maintained that content created for public consumption warrants public discussion when altered or removed.
Neither party has disclosed the reason for the interviews’ deletion. Delay, known for her “The Delay Show,” has not publicly addressed the incident. The exchange underscores ongoing tensions between personal relationships and digital transparency in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
The 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, has rejected the Electoral Commission’s decision to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling stations within the constituency.
This follows the EC’s announcement of a rerun after disputes over the authenticity of election results from the December 7, 2024, General Election.
In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, July 2, she expressed strong disapproval of the decision, arguing that the process had nearly concluded before the rerun was announced.
According to her, the collation had been completed in all but three polling stations, and the sudden shift by the EC raises serious concerns.
She maintains that the EC had earlier testified under oath in Parliament that only three polling stations were left to be declared, making the call for a rerun unjustifiable.
She questioned the EC’s consistency and accused the NDC of manipulating the situation in its favour.
“I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so what changed? We had EC coming to parliament, swearing under oath that we have only three polling stations left, and consistently, that is what it has been so far.
“So if NDC is bent on taking the seat, and going to the extent of requesting a re-run and EC that has always insisted that also that we are left with only three polling stations, comes back to say that ‘we have agreed with NDC’s decision,’ then where are we? We are not agreeing to this,” she said.

Ten Chinese nationals involved in illegal gold trading at Asankragua in the Western Region are currently in police custody.
The arrest was championed by the GoldBod Taskforce just 48 hours after the government announced a nationwide ban on foreign involvement in the local gold trade.
The culprits were nabbed from a private residence where their illicit gold transactions ensued.
The event drew leading figures from the hospitality, tourism, and education sectors
Ghana’s Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has made a compelling call for the country’s private sector to embed culture and service excellence at the heart of every hospitality experience.
“In every hotel room, every tour vehicle, every restaurant, there must be a sense of who we are,” the minister said at the official launch of the Eagles Hospitality School in Accra.
“Every guest we serve is an ambassador, and every moment is a chance to shape a global perception of Ghana; hence, there is a need to train for excellence, not just for jobs,” she said.
The event, which drew leading figures from the hospitality, tourism, and education sectors, marked what the minister described as “not just the opening of an institution but the beginning of a movement for service excellence in Ghana”.
Drawing on her personal upbringing in Burma Camp, Gomashie emphasized the foundational values of discipline, respect, and cultural pride, values she said must guide every interaction within the tourism and hospitality industry.
She expressed concern over the fading use of culturally respectful phrases such as “Yes, please,” and simple gestures like standing to greet.
“The true value in tourism is not measured by the size of our attractions alone,” she said. “It is found in the warm smile of a receptionist, the cultural depth of a tour guide, and the memorable encounters that make visitors storytellers when they return home.”
With major cultural events like PANAFEST, Emancipation Day, and the Black Star Experience on the horizon, Gomashie stressed the urgency of elevating service delivery and deepening cultural identity within every touchpoint of the visitor experience.
“This school must not stand alone,” she stated. “Let it be the heartbeat of a wider movement that celebrates our culture, trains our people, and elevates our place on the world tourism map.”
Founder and Group CEO of the Eagles Hospitality School, Stephen Asante, explained that the institution was born out of a long-held vision to raise the standard of service delivery in Ghana’s hospitality ecosystem.
“We believe that top-class service shouldn’t be a luxury or imported from abroad,” he said. “Our hotels are being converted into classrooms, where students don’t just learn theory but gain hands-on experience from day one.”
Stakeholders from institutions such as Labadi Beach Hotel, ASA Bank, and the Ghana Tourism Authority endorsed the initiative, affirming the growing need for practical training and professional discipline across the hospitality value chain.
The Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyonkopa Daniels, has expressed disappointment in President John Dramani Mahama for granting self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Agradaa, an audience during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held on July 1, 2025.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Madam Daniels stated that although President Mahama is widely admired for his kind-hearted nature and forgiving spirit, allowing Agradaa to engage with him publicly—after she had insulted and vilified him prior to the elections—was, in her view, a poor decision that has angered many within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I am disappointed in President Mahama for granting Agradaa an audience. She subjected him to insults and false accusations ahead of the elections. I know the president is not vindictive, but this sends the wrong signal—that when you insult our leaders, you will eventually be granted an audience,” Madam Daniels remarked.
Her comments came after Agradaa, in an interaction with journalists at the State House, stated that even if she failed to make it to heaven, she would still feel fulfilled because she had hugged President Mahama.
Agradaa had joined members of the clergy, civil society organizations, and citizens at the prayer event aimed at fostering unity and national stability.
Madam Daniels, however, argued that such public interaction with a controversial figure like Agradaa undermines respect for leadership and encourages the normalization of insults as a path to recognition.
“I have received numerous calls from people expressing displeasure at the president for this. We know Mahama has a good heart, but even Jesus Christ disciplined people when necessary. I also blame his security detail for allowing the woman to hug him,” she added.
She further stressed the need for Ghanaian society to move away from a culture that rewards insults and disrespect toward leaders, cautioning that such behavior sets a dangerous example for the youth.
“We must stop incentivizing people to insult others. We must end vindictive behavior and discourteous speech. This conduct is harmful and sends the wrong message—that insulting others is the only way to get attention,” she concluded.
Joseph Kwadwo Badu Boateng, also known as, “Dada Joe Remix,” a Ghanaian, has been extradited to the United States to face charges related to a romance and inheritance scheme targeting the elderly.
A federal grand jury in Tucson indicted Boateng in May 2023 with Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering, according to a statement by the United States Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona.
Boateng was arrested in Ghana on an extradition warrant on May 27, 2025. Boateng had his initial appearance in the District Court of Arizona.
The indictment alleges that from 2013 through March 2023, Boateng and his co-conspirators engaged in a romance and inheritance fraud scheme that targeted the elderly around the world, to include victims in Arizona and throughout the United States.
As part of the scheme, the co-conspirators pretended to be romantically involved with the victims.
The co-conspirators also falsely represented that they had gold and jewels and that to release such items to the victims, those individuals had to pay taxes and other costs.
Convictions for Conspiracy to Commit Wire Fraud and Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering each carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
An indictment is simply a method by which a person is charged with criminal activity and raises no inference of guilt. An individual is presumed innocent until evidence is presented to a jury that establishes guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The FBI Phoenix Division’s Sierra Vista office conducted the investigation in this case. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Arizona, Tucson is handling the prosecution.
The following partners provided essential assistance in securing the arrest and extradition: FBI Legal Attaché in Accra, Ghana; the Office of Attorney General and Ministry of Justice; the Republic of Ghana’s Economic and Organized Crime Office, Ghana Police Services – INTERPOL, and the Department of Justice, Office of International Affairs.
The Ghana Football Association’s Club Licensing Manager, Esme Mends, has shed light on the updated licensing regulations ahead of the 2025/26 football season, urging clubs to adhere to new standards aimed at improving the matchday experience and television appeal.
Speaking in an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, Mends revealed that the GFA has already communicated the new requirements to clubs a month ago, giving them ample time to prepare.
“We made changes regarding licensing regulations and we have informed the clubs. We have also given them enough time to prepare. I sent everything to them about a month ago,” Mends explained.
He mentioned that the key changes include improvements to stadium surroundings, with a focus on visual aesthetics for broadcasting.
“Some spectator stands are bushy. So we want the clubs to either erect proper stands or clear the area so it will look good on TV.”
He also emphasized on enhancing stadium facilities and ensuring order during games.
“VIP, VVIP lounges, and no hawkers allowed are the things we have communicated to them.”
Mends acknowledged the financial challenges many clubs are currently facing, which could hinder compliance in some areas.
“Club licensing is about money, and unfortunately, we are at a point where clubs are facing financial difficulties. So if they don’t have it, they don’t have it.”
The Club Licensing’s new requirements align with the GFA’s commitment to raising the standards of local football infrastructure, ensuring both players and fans enjoy a professional and appealing matchday environment.
Below is what Esme Mends said in Ghanaian Language during an interview with Martin Tawiah:
Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs had pleaded ‘not-guity’ to all charges
Hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been found guilty on two counts of ‘transportation to engage in prostitution’ but acquitted of the more serious charges of ‘racketeering conspiracy’ and ‘sex trafficking’ by a federal jury in Manhattan on July 2, 2025.
The split verdict marks a partial victory for Combs, who faced the possibility of life in prison if convicted on all counts.
The jury, composed of eight men and four women, deliberated for three days before reaching their decision.
Combs, 55, was convicted under the Mann Act, which criminalises transporting individuals across state lines for prostitution.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years, meaning he could face up to 20 years in prison, though legal experts suggest a significantly shorter sentence is more likely.
Key Charges and Why the Jury Rejected the Most Serious Counts
1. Racketeering (RICO) Conspiracy – Not Guilty
Prosecutors alleged that Combs ran a criminal enterprise involving kidnapping, bribery, and forced labor. However, the jury found insufficient evidence to tie him to a coordinated criminal operation.
The defense successfully argued that his business dealings were legitimate and that key witnesses, including ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, stayed in relationships with him voluntarily.
2. Sex Trafficking – Not Guilty
The jury was not convinced that Ventura and another woman, referred to as “Jane,” were coerced into participating in drug-fueled “freak-offs” with male escorts.
Text messages showing the women’s apparent enthusiasm for the encounters significantly weakened the prosecution’s claim of coercion.
3. Transportation for Prostitution – Guilty
The convictions stem from evidence that Combs arranged travel and payments for male sex workers involved in the encounters.
Prosecutors emphasised Combs’ use of drugs (including ketamine and ecstasy) and his financial control over the women to secure their compliance.
Combs remains in custody pending a judge’s decision on bail. Prosecutors are opposing his release, citing his history of witness intimidation and drug use, while his lawyers have proposed a $1 million bond.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Amoakohene attending to the injured student
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, brought his medical expertise to bear when he rushed to the aid of an injured student during the Ashanti Inter-Schools Music Fiesta at the Kumasi Sports Stadium.
This followed a clash that broke out among students.
In a video shared on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, the Minister is seen putting on gloves as he leads a team of medical officers to attend to an injured female student lying before him.
The girl’s injury, which was not severe, was treated, and she later rejoined her colleagues.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene (born September 24, 1990) is a Ghanaian medical professional, politician, and youth leader. He currently serves as the Ashanti Regional Minister and has contributed significantly to healthcare, governance, and public service.
Born in Accra and originally from Nsuta-Asuafu in the Ashanti Region, Amoakohene attended Osei Tutu Secondary School before earning a BSc in Medical Laboratory Sciences (2014) and an MBChB (2020) from the University of Ghana.
He later completed a Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (2023) at UDS and an MBA (2024) from Accra Business School.

Deputy CEO of Petroleum Development Corporation, Onasis Rosely Kobby
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Operations and Technical Services at the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC), Onasis Rosely, has called for national policy alignment and robust collaboration among stakeholders in the oil and gas industry to address systemic leakages and ensure an efficient measurement framework.
Delivering the keynote address at the inaugural Oil and Gas Measurement Summit on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Rosely highlighted the critical correlation between precise metering systems and effective revenue generation. He stressed that regulators in the petroleum sector must prioritise efficiency in product evaluation.
Rosely advocated for sustained engagement and commitment from oil and gas companies and regulators to align on a shared vision for efficient metering in the transportation and processing of oil and gas products.
“Inaccurate or inconsistent metering practices create gaps—deep gaps—that result in revenue losses, regulatory infractions, and an erosion of trust. As we pursue energy security and industrial growth, we cannot afford these leakages—not in our pipelines, and certainly not in our governance.
“We need more than equipment. We need policy alignment, capacity building, and collaborative oversight. We must create an ecosystem where the regulator, the investor, the operator, and the consumer all speak the same language of measurement—one that is consistent, verified, and trusted.
“This is where your collective expertise comes in. The knowledge being shared over the course of this summit—on technology trends, calibration protocols, metering infrastructure, data integration, and more—must not end in this room. It must find expression in policy, in operations, and in how we train our people.”
On behalf of the PHDC, Rosely reaffirmed the Corporation’s commitment to adhering strictly to international standards and protocols in the installation of metering systems for the Petroleum Hub project.
He elaborated, “In its mission to develop the Petroleum Hub, the PHDC will establish robust frameworks, expertise, and technologies essential for the precise and effective measurement of oil and gas products.”
Rosely further stated, “At the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation, our vision is unequivocal: to position Ghana as a competitive, integrated petroleum and petrochemical hub in the region. This ambition hinges on strengthening the foundations of efficiency—particularly through metering and measurement systems that meet global standards.”
“As we develop critical infrastructure—refineries, storage facilities, pipelines, and ports—we must concurrently establish frameworks, expertise, and technologies to ensure accurate product measurement and equitable value exchange,” he affirmed.
The day-long summit was attended by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Hon. Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, along with other committee members and key stakeholders from Ghana’s oil and gas sector.

GhanaWeb Special: The gold market that fuels galamsey
Real Madrid will lock horns with Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
This highly anticipated matchup is scheduled to take place on July 6, 2025, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
The game will be a rematch of the 2024 Champions League final, where Madrid won a record-extending 15th title after beating the German side 2-0 at Wembley Stadium.
Real Madrid, led by new manager Xabi Alonso, secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Juventus at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, thanks to a solo goal from rising striker Gonzalo García.
This win booked their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
Gonzalo García’s solo goal proved enough for Real Madrid to beat Juventus 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, with García now scoring three goals in the tournament.
He filled the gap left by Kylian Mbappé, who made his first appearance off the bench after recovering from acute gastroenteritis.
In a separate match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Borussia Dortmund edged out Monterrey 2-0, with Serhou Guirassy scoring a brace assisted by Karim Adeyemi.
Hours later, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, a brace from Serhou Guirassy helped Dortmund beat Mexican side Monterrey. Both goals were assisted by Karim Adeyemi.
German Berterame pulled one back in the second half, but Nico Kovac’s side held on to sail through to the quarters.
The Real Madrid matchup against Dortmund could have had a different touch to it had both Bellingham brothers been available to play.
However, the younger brother, Jobe Bellingham, will be suspended for the quarter-final game this weekend.
According to FIFA’s rules, a player who receives yellow cards in two different games will face an automatic one-match suspension.
However, these yellow cards are reset after the quarterfinals, meaning players won’t miss the final due to accumulated yellows unless they receive a red card in the semifinals.
If a player has a yellow card before the quarterfinals and picks up another in the quarterfinals, they’ll miss the semifinals.
For example, Jude Bellingham isn’t directly mentioned but if a player like Jude Bellingham’s teammate Jobe picked up a second yellow card in the Round of 16 against Monterrey, he would miss the quarterfinals.
His other booking came in their last group game against Ulsan HD.
The 19-year-old signed for the Yellow Wall on June 10, following in his brother’s footsteps.
The older Bellingham made 92 appearances for Dortmund, where he developed into one of the most sought-after midfielders in the world before Real Madrid came knocking.
Jobe was fresh from an impressive campaign with Sunderland, where he starred in the team that earned promotion back to the Premier League.

EC Finally Reveals The Total Number Of Ghanaians Who Did Not Vote During 2024 Elections
News Hub Creator14h
The commission mandate to oversee all elections in Ghana has finally updated the good people of Ghana about the number of eligible voters who did not participate in the 2024 general elections. The Electoral commission of Ghana performs several roles and one of its mandate is to organize or conduct national elections.
Speaking live on GhoNe TV on Wednesday, 2nd July, 2025, the deputy chairman of Electoral Commission confirmed that, a total of seven million eligible Ghanaians did not partake in the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Bossman Asare explained that, the inability for the electoral commission not getting all the people to participate in the voting activity has brought a huge financial loss to the commission. Below is the comment from Dr. Bossman Asare on GhoNe TV.

The event brought together a diverse network of investors, development partners, government agencies, and private sector leaders to collaboratively shape the future of the continent’s food systems.
Themed, “Enhancing Value Chain Investment to Improve Food Systems”, the forum serves as a dynamic platform for sharing actionable insights, showcasing innovative investment models, and fostering impactful partnership
Speaking at the event, Executive Director for GBHub Africa, Nelson Amo, emphasised the importance of investing in Africa’s food systems, not as an end but as a pathway to job creation, improved nutrition, and reduced food imports.
He noted that food insecurity is a key driver of economic, political, and human instability, and addressing it is essential to achieving sustainable security on the continent.
He stressed that beyond funding, they offer smart investments, capacity building, and market access, guided by core principles such as impact, sustainability, shared prosperity, and environmental responsibility.

Some social media users, especially on X, have lambasted former British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, over a comment he made about Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the leader and founder of Action Chapel International a global Charismatic Christian church headquartered in Accra.
Jon Benjamin had criticised Archbishop Duncan-Williams over a remark the clergyman made during the launch of the National Prayer and Thanksgiving Day on July 1, 2025.
During the event, Duncan-Williams expressed his hope that Ghana would reach a point where citizens would no longer travel abroad in search of greener pastures but rather travel only for leisure, such as food tours.
Responding to this, Jon Benjamin accused the archbishop of living a lavish lifestyle funded by church tithes.
He claimed to have personally witnessed the luxurious life Duncan-Williams enjoys, alleging that the pastor sometimes books the entire first-class cabin on British Airways flights for his family vacations.
“Duncan-Williams certainly travels for nice vacations, on occasion booking the whole first-class cabin of the BA flight to London for his family. I wonder if the poor people who give him ‘tithes’ they can’t afford, and which undermine their economic survival, known in what high luxury he lives. I saw that luxury with my own eyes at his house and office,” Benjamin wrote.
His comments sparked outrage among a section of Ghanaians on social media, who questioned his motives and criticised his approach.
One user fired back, “Who’s this (sic)? How do Ghana’s issues concern you? Oh, you want Ghanaians to keep queuing to go to that your stupid country to be enslaved? Your useless embassy makes more in an hour than any amount of tithes he receives in a year.”
Another user added, “I even bought data to read your nonsense.”
Others chimed in, “Don’t be myopic.”
“To a nonbeliever, envious and hateful person like yourself, it’s a big Yes.”
“Man, you’re English and should have understood what he said. He’s praying that every Ghanaian including those giving him tithe would be able to afford what he’s enjoying, as you claim.”
“Why do you guys always have a problem with ‘tithes? First, it’s not your money. Second, people use their money for what they believe benefits them. Why can’t you let people do what they think is best with their own money?”
Who’s this foòl? How does issues of Ghana concerns you? Oh, u want Ghanaians to keep queuing to go to that your stupíd country to be enslaved? Your useless embassy makes more in an hour than any amount of tithes he receives in a year 🤡

An economist, Dr Theo Acheampong, has said that the drop in inflation should give the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) enough space to cut the policy rate.
During the 124th MPC press briefing in Accra on Friday, May 23, the Monetary Policy Committee maintained the Policy Rate at 28 per cent.
But with the rate of inflation going down, Dr Acheampong expresses the view that this should allow the MPC the space to reduce the policy rate a few notches down by at least 100 basis points and further during the course of the year on improved inflation expectations.
“Ghana’s inflation for June 2025 slows significantly to 13.7% drivien by both food and non-food inflation declines, and which are supported by the appreciating Cedi and improved external front.
“With Israel-Iran conflict ceasefire holding, the external front looks moderately stable over the medium term.
“The drop in inflation should give the Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) room to cut the policy rate a few notches down by at least 100 basis points and further during the course of the year on improved inflation expectations. Ghanaians could see this in improved cost of living and bank lending rates also coming down in the coming months,” he wrote on Facebook.
The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has announced that inflation rate for June 2025 is 13.7%.
The Government Statistici, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu said at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, that the decline was influenced by a significant slowdown in the general price levels of foodstuffs and items.
Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu noted that the development shows that the pressures driving inflation over the past months are declining.
For the first time in a while, the general price levels from May to June this year dropped, recording what a deflation of 1.2 percent.
Dr. Iddrisu said, “The downward inflationary trend over the last 6 months provides some consistency and assurance of real, sustained shift in prices.”
The Upper West region recorded the highest regional inflation of 32.3% largely caused by food inflation and utilities while the Bono region recorded the lowest of 8.4%.
Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has fired back at critics who have accused him of abandoning music in favour of posting food and lifestyle content on social media.
In a video shared on X on June 1, 2025, the “Grind Day” hitmaker addressed the backlash he received after posting a video showcasing a variety of dishes.
According to him, the criticism has not only been harsh but rooted in negativity that hinders creativity and progress in the creative arts industry.
“Some of you have decided to be very evil and nasty about it in my comments. Some people have gone to the extent of being like, oh, I hope he goes broke and he starts eating gari, so he can give us the type of music he used to give us. I sent them back to the sender,” he said.
He emphasised that he has no interest in returning to a life of hardship, adding that he has worked hard to elevate himself beyond that point.
“That’s not a life I want. I don’t want to suffer, bro. I’ve suffered enough in my time. That is why I have worked so hard to overcome that and be in the position that I am in right now. I’m not interested in suffering no more. So if you like to suffer all the best to you. Kudos. You guys take this nasty, evil attitude and kill a lot of talents in this country. But I am not one of them,” he added.
Despite the negativity, Kwesi Arthur made it clear that he will not be discouraged from posting lifestyle content, particularly food-related videos, which, according to him, he enjoys sharing with his fans.
“Like I grew up in Tama, bro. And I started out rapping shirtless. Like you see Tema boy wey dey rap shirtless before. So what the fuck makes you think you go fit tell me what to do. Let’s be serious here,” he added.
Dada Joe Remix being extradited to the US over an alleged romance fraud scheme
A video of embattled businessman Joseph Badu Boateng, popularly known as Dada Joe Remix, has surfaced online following his extradition to the United States over his alleged involvement in a romance fraud scheme estimated at over $100 million.
In the short clip, the popular business mogul is heard describing himself during an interview with JoyTwum Media.
Dada Joe Remix portrays himself as a businessman, philanthropist, humanitarian, God-fearing, and peace-loving.
“Daddy Joe — I am a businessman, philanthropist, and humanitarian. I feel sad when I see people struggling. I am God-fearing. I am not a violent person. I always stand for peace and unity,” he said.
Boateng was extradited to the United States on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, following his arrest in Ghana. He is accused of orchestrating a sophisticated romance fraud scheme that allegedly defrauded victims—primarily U.S. citizens—of over $100 million.
His extradition follows close collaboration between the U.S. Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Ghanaian law enforcement agencies.
According to U.S. prosecutors, Boateng and his network used fake online profiles—often posing as romantic partners—to manipulate victims into sending large sums of money under false pretenses, including fabricated inheritance claims and financial emergencies.
After months of investigations and international coordination, Ghanaian authorities arrested Boateng and others, facilitating his extradition to the United States, where he is now expected to stand trial.
Romance fraud is a growing form of global cybercrime that exploits victims’ emotional vulnerabilities, often resulting in significant financial loss. U.S. officials have raised concerns about the increasing involvement of West Africa-based networks in such operations, prompting deeper international cooperation to combat the threat.
Background
Dada Joe Remix was arrested in Ghana on May 28, 2025, following a formal extradition request from the U.S. government.
According to court documents, the FBI alleges that between 2013 and March 2023, Boateng and his associates defrauded elderly Americans by promising access to non-existent gold and jewelry. Victims were reportedly coerced into paying fictitious fees and taxes to facilitate the release of these items.
A grand jury indictment, unsealed on May 30, 2025, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona, charges Boateng with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering.
Ghanaian authorities, citing obligations under the Extradition Act of 1960, worked closely with U.S. officials in a covert operation to facilitate his handover.
Boateng is now set to face prosecution in federal court in Arizona. If convicted, he could face substantial prison time.

Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor for the 24-Hour Economy Secretaria
Augustus Obuadum Tanoh, Presidential Advisor for the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, has given the assurance that the 24-Hour Economy Policy document will be presented to Parliament after its unveiling on July 2, for comprehensive debate by Members of Parliament.
He believes this will enable legislators from both sides of the aisle to make inputs into the policy to ensure its holistic and seamless implementation.
“We need to debate the content of the programme to justify the creation of an Authority. So, it is inevitable that it is going to happen,” Tanoh stated.
This follows a proposal made recently by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, that the 24-Hour Economy Policy document be debated on the floor of Parliament to gain the buy-in of parliamentarians and ensure national ownership of the policy, regardless of political affiliations.
Mr. Tanoh made this known during a media encounter in Accra on June 30, held to solicit media support in disseminating information about the policy to citizens.
President John Dramani Mahama is expected to officially launch the 24-Hour Economy Policy document on Wednesday, July 2, 2025.
It is envisaged that the flagship programme will create not fewer than 1.7 million jobs over the next four years to drive industrial transformation.
Tanoh also stated that the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat would be converted into an Authority to enhance its operational scope, which would require parliamentary approval.
“There has been approval to convert the current 24-Hour Secretariat into an Authority. And of course, it will need to be passed by a parliamentary majority,” he added.
During his interaction with the media, Mr. Tanoh said the government aims to mobilise four billion US dollars over the next four years from development finance partners and institutions globally to ensure the full-scale implementation of the programme.
The programme, he said, is designed to transform the economy and stimulate private sector participation to create jobs and ensure prosperity for all Ghanaians.
He noted that the government would provide an initial seed capital of $300 million to support businesses and individuals who sign up for the programme to ramp up production.
The programme is anchored on three key pillars:
Production Transformation
Supply Chain and Market Efficiency
Human Capital Development
These pillars are supported by eight sub-programmes, including:
Grow 24
Make 24
Connect 24
Show Ghana
Go Ghana
Digital Technology
Aspire 24
Tanoh indicated that the government drew lessons from previous national development initiatives, including Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s Seven-Year Development Plan, the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA), and the National Development Planning Commission’s 40-Year Development Plan.
Abdul-Nasser Suglo Alidu, Head of Strategy and Programmes at the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat, provided a presentation on the policy, highlighting the various sub-programmes. He noted that the initiative is designed to transform production, with agriculture as its main anchor, to ensure food sufficiency.
He explained that the programme also aims to develop the country’s value chain, achieve greater productivity, and expand industrial output to promote an export-driven economy.
For example:
The Make 24 component is meant to boost the manufacturing of goods and services.
Aspire 24 seeks to change the mindset of Ghanaian workers and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks in the public sector, thereby improving citizen attitudes toward productivity.
Show Ghana aims to showcase the country’s rich and diverse cultural identity and engage with the diaspora to promote tourism.
Go Ghana is intended to mobilise citizens toward building a prosperous nation.
The Made-in-Ghana initiative encourages the local manufacturing of goods and urges Ghanaians to patronise domestically produced items.
Mr. Abdul-Nasser also mentioned that the programme would roll out the Volta Economic Corridor, which will feature industrial parks, agro-ecological parks, and lake transportation on the Volta Lake to boost socio-economic development in the area.
He emphasised that the programme has a national character and is designed to leverage Ghana’s human resource capacity and ingenuity to accelerate socio-economic transformation and create jobs.
Citing countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, China, and Denmark, which have implemented similar initiatives in the past, Mr. Abdul-Nasser expressed confidence that Ghana could soon become a model of industrial transformation in West Africa and the African continent at large.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown has hinted that Ghanaian attacking midfielder Mohammed Kudus could join Chelsea this summer.
Kudus has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, despite interest from London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea, eager to bolster Enzo Maresca’s squad, have already secured deals for Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens. However, sources suggest that their pursuit of Kudus remains active.
Brown, who has extensive experience in top-level player recruitment and also served as a scout for West Ham United, expressed some reservations about Kudus’ consistency but acknowledged his undeniable talent.
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown revealed that the former Ajax star has strong admirers at the two-time Champions League winners.
“It looks like Kudus will be leaving West Ham,” he told Football Insider. “There’s been a lot of interest in him, but these clubs aren’t going to pay £80 million for him.
They’ll talk to West Ham to negotiate a lower fee, and I think the club will be open to that because it will still be a significant amount.
I must be honest, I’ve got concerns about his consistency — he didn’t have the best season.
But these clubs will know that, and they’ll believe they can bring the best out of him. Chelsea are the latest club looking to make a move, and Tottenham are speaking to him as well.
With Chelsea, it feels like they can spend endlessly and are prepared to do so. They’ve already agreed deals for Pedro and Gittens, but from what I hear, they’re not stopping there.
Kudus has admirers at Stamford Bridge, and they’re still looking to strengthen their attack. So despite my personal concerns, these clubs are clearly keen to bring him in — and his talent is obvious if they can unlock it,” he added.
Kudus impressed in his debut Premier League season, scoring 14 goals and providing six assists across all competitions. However, his output dipped last season, netting just five goals in total.
The 24-year-old is currently enjoying a holiday in Ghana as transfer talks continue.
