The shirt dress has long been a wardrobe staple, blending comfort, style, and versatility in one chic piece. This season, the shirt dress has evolved into a trendy and fashion-forward choice for ladies who want to look effortlessly stylish while staying comfortable. With endless variations in fabric, silhouette, and details, the shirt dress is the perfect piece to transition from casual outings to more polished events. Here are some trendy shirt dress styles to inspire the fashionable lady.
1. Classic Button-Down Shirt Dress
The timeless button-down shirt dress is a must-have for any wardrobe. This style features a straight or slightly flared cut with a collar and buttons running from top to bottom. For a fresh look, opt for a dress in a soft, flowy fabric like cotton, linen, or silk. Pair it with sleek sandals or ankle boots for a casual, day-to-night transition. For an extra twist, add a belt to accentuate the waist or layer it with a long cardigan.
2. Oversized Shirt Dress
For those seeking a relaxed and effortlessly cool vibe, the oversized shirt dress is a perfect choice. Featuring a loose, flowing fit, this style is ideal for hot summer days or laid-back weekend outings. Choose a neutral or pastel color for a fresh, minimalistic look or go bold with prints like stripes, florals, or checks. Pair with sneakers or chunky sandals for a relaxed, yet fashion-forward appearance.
3. Belted Shirt Dress
For a more structured silhouette, a belted shirt dress adds a touch of sophistication while still maintaining the laid-back charm of a shirt dress. The belt cinches at the waist, creating a flattering shape. This style works well in both solid colors and bold patterns like plaid or animal print. Whether you’re heading to the office or brunch with friends, the belted shirt dress offers a perfect mix of elegance and ease.
4. Shirt Dress with Puff Sleeves
Add a feminine twist to the classic shirt dress with puff sleeves. This updated version of the shirt dress incorporates voluminous sleeves that add drama and elegance to the outfit. Pair this style with heels or strappy sandals for a refined look. Puff sleeves, whether subtle or dramatic, elevate the shirt dress and give it a trendy, modern feel.
5. Denim Shirt Dress
For a more casual, street-style look, the denim shirt dress is a go-to. This rugged yet stylish take on the shirt dress is versatile and perfect for layering. You can pair it with a jacket and boots for a more structured look or wear it open as a light cover-up over a tee and shorts. Denim shirt dresses are perfect for transitioning between seasons, making them a year-round favorite.
6. Midi Shirt Dress
For a sophisticated look with a bit more coverage, a midi-length shirt dress offers a stylish and refined option. A midi shirt dress can be fitted or slightly flared and comes in a variety of fabrics, from cotton to silk to velvet. This dress is perfect for both professional settings and more formal occasions. Pair it with heeled boots, strappy sandals, or block heels to elevate the look.
In conclusion, the shirt dress is a wardrobe essential that offers endless styling possibilities. From the classic button-down to the trendy belted and oversized styles, it’s easy to create chic and fashionable looks that can be dressed up or down. Whether you’re heading to a brunch, a business meeting, or a night out, the shirt dress is a versatile piece that embodies both style and comfort, making it a perfect choice for fashionable ladies.

Ghanaian footballers, led by West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus, made a grand appearance at Stonebwoy’s electrifying London concert, showing unwavering support for the dancehall superstar. Ghana’s economy grew by 5.7 per cent in 2024, but Q4 growth slowed to 3.6 per cent, down from 7.2 per cent in the third quarter.
The slowdown in Q4 was largely driven by weaker growth in the Industry sector, which increased by just 0.2 per cent.
A significant factor was the sharp contraction in mining and quarrying, which accounted for about 43 per cent of the Industry sector’s total value.
The Services sector remained the largest contributor to GDP, representing 49.2 per cent of total output, followed by Industry (31.9 per cent) and Agriculture (19.0 per cent).
At constant 2013 prices, Ghana’s oil GDP for Q4 2024 stood at GH¢53,137.0 million, while non-oil GDP was GH¢50,262.5 million. In nominal terms, GDP at basic prices reached GH¢308,086.5 million.
Dennis Miracles Aboagye and President John Dramani Mahama
Former Director of Communications for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team in the 2024 elections, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has questioned President John Dramani Mahama over the arrest of individuals engaged in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
According to Aboagye, before the 2024 general elections, President Mahama promised to release galamseyers who had been arrested by the previous government.
However, he finds it baffling that, instead of fulfilling this promise, the president is now cracking down on their activities.
He also called for a state of emergency in the fight against galamsey, arguing that the situation has worsened under the current administration.
“We want the NDC to declare a state of emergency because galamsey has escalated. That is what they told us two months ago. We burned excavators, we arrested illegal miners, we jailed them, and the president when he was opposition leader said that was not the way to go. But today, he is doing exactly the same thing.
“He said on a campaign platform that he did not understand why we were arresting people in the pits and that when he came into power, he would release them. So why is he arresting them in the pits today?” citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said in an interview on March 10, 2025.

The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has strongly opposed the government’s decision to scrap the Betting Tax.
The Mahama-led administration has promised to abolish several taxes, including the E-Levy, COVID Levy, and Emission Tax.
However, in a statement ahead of the presentation of the 2025 Budget on Tuesday, March 11, the think tank argued that scrapping the Betting Tax would be costly to the state.
“We agree with the abolition of the first three because they are either nuisance taxes and/or obsolete. However, in our view, the Betting Tax is useful for both revenue generation and deterrence purposes and should be retained, although it could be reduced from 10% to 5%.”
The IEA further called for the abolishment of other taxes.
“Furthermore, the Growth and Sustainability Tax, formerly the Fiscal Stability Tax, which was imposed on selected companies as far back as 2001 to raise revenue for economic stabilization, is now obsolete and should also be abolished. The revenue loss expected from the abolition of these taxes could be offset through other compensatory measures, including:
i. Plugging numerous tax loopholes (including trade mis-invoicing, tax exemptions, transfer pricing, under-collected property taxes, and tax evasion);
ii. Broadening the tax base by using digitization to increase the formalization of the economy; and
iii. Improving the efficiency of tax administration, including through the use of modern technology.”
The think tank stressed that the tax system must be simplified and rid of complexity and multiplicity through the reduction of tax rates where necessary.
“High, multiple, and complex taxes risk generating less revenue due to evasion than a simpler and less complex system,” the statement added.

Controversial social commentator Twene Jonas has ignited a fiery discussion after criticizing Farida Mahama, the daughter of former President John Dramani Mahama, during a TikTok Live session. His remarks followed a fan’s claim that Farida had publicly rejected any romantic feelings for him.
In a video that quickly went viral, Twene Jonas, known for his candid opinions, didn’t hold back. He stated, “If Twene Jonas loves you and you don’t feel the same, then you’re not very wise.” He proceeded to boast about his wealth, connections, and status, asserting that no woman could resist his charm. “There’s no way any lady wouldn’t fall for me because I’m well-known, affluent, and at a level in life that few reach,” he claimed.
Twene Jonas also expressed skepticism about the fan’s assertion, indicating he wasn’t certain if Farida had actually made such a statement. However, he cautioned that if she did, it would reflect poorly on her intelligence. “If she really said that, then she’s not very smart,” he remarked.
In the video, he showcased his BMW, using it as a testament to his success and appeal. He captioned the post, asking his followers, “Did my wife Farida Mahama really say this on TV3? #ghanatiktokers #twenejonastv #twenejonas.”

We Ghanaian men support this; we’ve left her for you.”
This isn’t the first time Twene Jonas has made headlines with his provocative comments. Renowned for his outspoken style, he frequently uses his platform to address public figures and societal matters, garnering both praise and criticism.

Armed robbers murdered mobile money vendor at his Madina residence Saturday midnight. The criminals escaped with GHC 200,000 (Ghanaian Cedis) after following him from his workplace.
Police reports confirm the deceased, identified as Junior Mensah, closed his shop at 8 PM. He completed numerous high-value transactions during his final business day.
Three suspicious men monitored the vendor’s activities throughout Saturday afternoon. The group shadowed Junior discreetly while he journeyed home with his daily earnings.
Surveillance cameras captured the suspects entering Junior’s compound at 11:45 PM. The footage shows them fleeing through the back gate shortly after midnight.
“Something felt wrong when Junior rushed inside without our usual evening chat,” said watchman Kofi Addo. The security guard discovered the body during his morning rounds.
Detective Inspector Sarah Owusu heads the investigation team. She confirmed the police recovered crucial evidence from the crime scene.
Officers located an abandoned vehicle two streets from the murder scene. The car matched witness descriptions of the getaway vehicle.
Preliminary forensic findings suggest the attackers knew the premises layout. The assessment indicates the criminals studied their target’s routine.
Police spokesperson DSP James Mensah announced a regional security alert. Law enforcement established checkpoints across Greater Accra’s major exits.
The murder weapon remains missing from the crime scene. Officers discovered signs of forced entry through the kitchen window.
Family members identified Junior’s body at the police hospital morgue. Medical examiners scheduled the autopsy for Monday morning.
Investigators interviewed neighboring business owners about suspicious activities. The police gathered security footage from surrounding buildings.
The Regional Police Command deployed additional patrols around Madina. Officers maintain an active presence while pursuing several leads.
Picture Ghanaian football icon Abedi Ayew Pele, seated on the floor, his captain’s armband proudly displayed—exuding the aura of a man about to deliver a footballing masterclass.
A three-time African Footballer of the Year and former Black Stars captain, Abedi Pele remains a symbol of Ghana’s sporting greatness. Now, he takes centre stage once again, this time leading PUMA’s latest campaign — an evocative tribute to Ghana’s national team jersey.
In a groundbreaking collaboration, PUMA teamed up with Ghanaian designer Jefferson Osei to unveil a visually striking campaign, “God Bless Our Homeland Ghana”, reimagining the Black Stars jersey to coincide with Ghana’s Independence Day celebrations last Thursday.
This was not just another sportswear unveiling—it was a cultural spectacle.
Spearheaded by the legendary Abedi Pele, the campaign featured a star-studded cast, including musicians Jackline Acheampong (Gyakie), Livingstone Etse Satekla (Stonebwoy), rapper Kelvin Boakye, Darryl Paa Kwesi Bannerman-Martin (Joey B), Samuel Ofei Ankra Badu, female footballer Patricia Nana Boakye of Ridge City FC and Abedi Pele’s model daughter, Imani Ayew.
But it was that striking image of Abedi Pele—seated, calm and commanding, with the captain’s armband proudly displayed—that resonated most.
It wasn’t just a pose; it was a symbol of leadership, resilience and the enduring legacy of a man who defined an era of Ghanaian football.
One of the campaign’s most striking visuals captured Abedi pulling a vintage white Mercedes-Benz W124 (V-Boot), with his ‘teammates’—Stonebwoy, Gyakie, Joey B and Imani—perched on the bonnet or seated inside the stationary car.
The image was not just playful nostalgia but a powerful nod to Ghana’s footballing journey, where teamwork, struggle and determination have defined the Black Stars’ rise on the global stage.
Jersey that tells a story
For this campaign, PUMA and Osei enlisted Ghanaian painter Daniel Alum Jasper to create a custom print for the home jersey.
The design is more than fabric—it is a visual tribute to Ghana’s cultural identity, inspired by the Gold Coast’s heritage.
It incorporates traditional Adinkra symbols representing unity, resilience and cooperation, seamlessly merging artistry with sport.
More than a fashion statement, the jersey’s intricate patterns pay homage to Ghana’s diverse ethnic groups —Ewe, Hausa, Asante, Fante, Dagbani and Ga — creating a kit that unites a nation under one flag.
On his Instagram page, Osei revealed the deeper purpose behind the project:
“My goal for this kit was to connect people from all Ghanaian ethnic tribes, both locally and in the diaspora—to bring back the love and unite the tribes as one.
My design was heavily influenced by conversations with the Black Stars players, my family and the local people, as well as Ghana’s current political climate. This kit embodies their shared desire for a more unified Ghana.”
The campaign also re-imagines the nostalgic schoolyard game ‘Counters Ball’, a childhood favourite in Ghana where bottle caps became makeshift footballs in playground tournaments.
This playful tribute captures the spirit of grassroots football—where many of Ghana’s greatest stars, including Pele, first honed their craft.
Evolution of jerseys
Gone are the days when football jerseys were just kits worn by players during matches. Globalisation and powerful branding have transformed them into lifestyle statements, crossing cultural and demographic boundaries.
Few brands understand this shift better than PUMA, Ghana’s official kit sponsor since 2005. Over the years, the German sportswear giant has redefined football fashion, designing apparel that not only supports the national team but also celebrates Ghanaian culture.
Beyond its traditional match-day kits, PUMA has launched fashion-forward collections, such as its ‘Football Culture Fanwear Collection’, producing T-shirts, track jackets and hoodies tailored for fans who embrace football as part of their daily identity.
However, this latest campaign is more than just another marketing exercise. It is a statement. A bold, artistic and deeply symbolic narrative and a seamless fusion of sport, culture and artistry.
This is more than a football jersey — it is a story woven into fabric, one that will stand the test of time.
By merging tradition with contemporary design, the German sportswear giant has once again proven that the most powerful brands do not just sell products—they sell stories. And this is a story worth telling.
The founder and leader of Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has made some revelations about Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Speaking to his church members on Sunday, March 9, 2025, Prophet Kofi Oduro stated that John Mahama, Akufo-Addo, or any other past president should not compare themselves to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
He explained that Kwame Nkrumah ruled Ghana for just six years, yet within that period, he achieved remarkable developments for the country.
He highlighted projects such as the Akosombo Dam, ADB, GCB, Tema Motorway, GOIL, several factories, and numerous schools, including UCC, UEW, KNUST, and many others.
According to him, past presidents of Ghana have governed for several years, yet none have achieved even 10% of what Dr. Kwame Nkrumah accomplished.
He, therefore, urged them to stop comparing their minor achievements to those of Kwame Nkrumah.
Prophet Kofi Oduro made these remarks while reacting to Ghana’s 68th Independence anniversary. According to him, he does not see it as a celebration but rather as a commiseration.
Watch the video below (52:00 onwards)
Ghana celebrated its 68th Independence Day on March 6, 2025, marking 68 years since gaining freedom from British colonial rule in 1957. This year’s theme was “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” emphasizing a period of contemplation and renewal for the nation.
In a departure from previous large-scale events, the main celebration was held at the Jubilee House, the presidential palace in Accra. This decision aimed to reduce government spending amid ongoing economic challenges. The ceremony included traditional elements such as the flag-raising, a presidential address, and a parade, but on a smaller scale to reflect the nation’s current circumstances.
Across the country, various regions marked the day with their own events. For instance, in Saltpond, a town with historical significance in Ghana’s independence movement, residents organized local celebrations to honor the occasion.
Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye
Historian cum lawyer Yaw Anokye Frimpong has accused the former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, of distorting historical facts during his time as a lecturer at the University of Ghana.
According to Frimpong, who studied Political Science under Prof. Oquaye, there was frequent chaos in his class due to the professor’s political stance.
Speaking in an interview on Onua TV on March 10, 2025, he alleged that Prof. Oquaye misrepresented historical events to align with his political affiliation, leading to disputes among students who were well-informed about Ghana’s history.
“He taught me political science. At the time, he was Dr. Mike Oquaye, and there was always conflict in his class because his course focused on politics in Ghana, yet he twisted historical facts to fit his narrative. If Nkrumah built the Tema Harbour, he would tell us that it wasn’t Nkrumah but the British who built it for him to inherit,” Frimpong claimed.
He further alleged that Prof. Oquaye misrepresented the role of George Alfred “Paa” Grant, the prominent businessman who funded Kwame Nkrumah’s return to Ghana.
“The £100 that was used to bring Nkrumah to Ghana was given by Paa Grant, but Mike Oquaye would tell us that it was JB Danquah, even though Danquah was a lawyer who didn’t have that kind of money. I know Mike Oquaye very well, he doesn’t like Nkrumah,” he added.
Oquaye, has asserted that Ghanaians owe their freedom and democracy to the contributions of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking at a mentorship programme organized by the NPP Council of Elders as part of the 77th-anniversary celebration of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), Prof. Oquaye emphasized that the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition played a crucial role in establishing human rights protections in Ghana’s constitutional framework.
He claimed that during Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s tenure, human rights were not prioritized, and it was under the leadership of the NPP and its predecessors that Ghana saw major advancements in constitutional freedoms.
“Our forebearers brought this kind of thing. Under Nkrumah, you could be detained almost indefinitely. The Preventive Detention Act (PDA) of 1958 allowed for detention for five years. In 1964, he amended it to allow for a renewal of another five years, making it almost indefinite.
“Nkrumah is celebrated as a hero today, yet he introduced such oppressive policies against Ghanaians. It’s a contradiction. We must claim our history and recognize that if you love your freedom, you must love the NPP. Our people were developmental, selfless gentlemen, focused on progress, and they constantly advocated for it,” he stated.

Miracles Aboagye was Communications Director of the Bawumia 2024 election campaign
Miracles Aboagye, the former Communications Director of the Bawumia 2024 election campaign, has expressed regret over not ordering New Patriotic Party supporters to storm the various collation centres across the country when supporters of their opponent, the National Democratic Congress, had besieged the centres.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, monitored by GhanaWeb, Aboagye stated that he had no reason to instruct NPP supporters at the time because, during his last press conference, his party was in the lead.
“At the time we held our press conference a little after 12 a.m., the NDC had already held a press conference where their Communications Officer called on NDC supporters to storm the collation centres. In fact, we did not have a scheduled press conference at that time. However, following their press conference, we felt the responsibility to ensure that our supporters did not clash with NDC supporters. If you ask me, that is one of my regrets.
“If I had known that the NDC would go on a rampage in 2024, despite our advancements in democracy—like what they did in Nsawam, Ablekuma North, and many other places across the country—we would not have stopped our people. I regret that decision and apologise.
“If that is the strategy your opponent or enemy in a political battle has chosen, you cannot sit back and allow yourself to be defeated. At the time I was speaking at the press conference that night, we had no indication that we were losing the election because our dashboard clearly showed that we were in the lead. We thought that if we were leading, there was no reason to send our supporters to the collation centres. Even if we were not leading, we did not believe in destroying our democracy by resorting to rampages.
“If I had ordered NPP supporters to also go to the collation centres, I am sure by this time, we wouldn’t have even carried out the handing over.
Election 2024: “We regret restraining our people from matching the NDC hooligans boot for boot.”

The Director of Communications for the Bawumia Campaign Team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has dismissed allegations made by the former Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Yaw Adomako Baafi, that he was hoarding party funds meant for certain individuals, particularly the media.
According to Miracles Aboagye, Adomako Baafi’s claims stem from personal resentment, as he was never the Director of Finance and had no control over party funds.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM on March 10, 2025, Aboagye stated, “I was not the Director of Finance of the party, and I did not handle campaign funds. If campaign money was to be disbursed, it had to go through the Director of Finance.”
He further suggested that Baafi’s grievances were fueled by his dissatisfaction with his appointment as the Director of Communications.
“If someone dislikes you, no matter what you do, you can never impress them. Adomako Baafi was not happy with my appointment as Communications Director, so this reaction is expected,” he said.
Aboagye also hinted that Baafi might even have been hoping for the failure of the campaign just to justify his criticisms
“I even think he was wishing for our downfall so he can find an opportunity to say something,” he added.
Yaw Adomako Baafi, lamented the neglect of party communicators in the lead-up to the general elections.
According to him, party communicators were sidelined, and their allowances were withheld
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM on December 23, 2024, Adomako Baafi referenced Dr. Bawumia’s post-election statement that some media houses were not supportive of the party, contributing to their defeat.
He argued that the blame should also be directed at some party leaders who were responsible for managing the media and the communication team.
Adomako Baafi alleged that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, was paying his media team as much as GH¢1,000, the NPP’s communication budget was mismanaged.
He specifically mentioned Miracles Aboagye, accusing him of failing to address the concerns of party communicators or provide their due allowances.

Member of Parliament for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako
Ghana’s economy recorded a real GDP growth of 5.7% in 2024, exceeding the initial budget target of 3.1%, which was later revised to 4%.
This marks the highest economic growth rate since 2020 and signals a strong recovery from the global economic downturn of previous years.
Announcing the figures, Tano North Member of Parliament, Dr. Gideon Boako, highlighted the resilience of the economy despite prevailing global challenges.
“The Ghana Statistical Service, in today’s announcement, puts Ghana’s real GDP growth for 2024 at 5.7%. The budget target was 3.1%, revised to 4%,” he noted.
This latest economic performance follows a steady recovery in 2023, when Ghana’s GDP grew by 2.9%, surpassing the 1.5% target for that year. The upward trend is seen as evidence that the economy has successfully rebounded, defying earlier concerns about instability.
“The release of GDP figures also confirms that the rebound in the economy was real,” Dr. Boako asserted. He attributed this progress to policies implemented by the previous NPP administration, which helped restore confidence in key sectors.
Despite the positive economic indicators, Dr. Boako criticized the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration for misrepresenting Ghana’s economic situation.
He argued that the strong economic growth figures contradict claims that the economy was mismanaged by the previous government.
“The NDC, since assuming government, has been claiming the economy was badly managed by the NPP. These developments show that the economy was doing well before the NDC took over,” he stated.
However, concerns remain over the credibility of fiscal data released by the Finance Ministry. Dr. Boako accused the Minister of Finance of attempting to manipulate financial reports to support the NDC’s narrative of inheriting a struggling economy.
“The minister should be candid enough to report only verified data, as his primary responsibility is to make payments only based on verified claims,” he stressed.
He called for transparency in government reporting to ensure accurate economic assessments for future policymaking.

Kelvin Yeboah was the hero for Minnesota United, netting the decisive goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at PayPal Park.
The Italian-Ghanaian forward found the breakthrough in the 32nd minute, finishing expertly with a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner after a well-placed assist from Michael Boxall.
The goal, coming from a set-piece situation, proved to be the difference in a match where San Jose dominated possession (73%) but failed to convert their chances.
Despite registering 17 shots and a higher expected goals (xG) value, the Earthquakes were frustrated by Minnesota’s resilient defense and sharp goalkeeping. Minnesota, on the other hand, made the most of their limited attacking opportunities, registering five big chances to San Jose’s two.
Yeboah, who lasted 65 minutes, now has two goals in three MLS appearances this season. With this win, Minnesota United improved their head-to-head record against San Jose to eight wins. They now shift focus to their upcoming MLS clash against Sporting KC on March 16.
Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, will today present the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament, marking the first comprehensive financial roadmap of the Mahama administration since assuming office.
The highly anticipated budget is expected to outline bold policy measures aimed at stabilising the economy, fostering growth, and addressing the nation’s fiscal challenges.
With the country still grappling with high debt levels, inflation, and unemployment, all eyes are on Dr. Forson to unveil strategies that will provide relief to businesses and households while setting the country on a path to recovery.
A key highlight of the budget is the anticipated removal of several controversial taxes, including the Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy), the COVID-19 Health Levy, and the Betting Tax.
These levies, introduced by the previous administration, were widely criticized for increasing the financial burden on citizens.
The Mahama-led government, which campaigned on a promise to reduce the tax burden, sees this move as a crucial step toward easing economic hardships and stimulating business growth.
The elimination of these taxes is expected to benefit mobile money users, businesses, and individuals engaged in online betting, while also boosting overall economic activity.
However, the government will need to outline alternative revenue sources to compensate for the loss of these levies.
Beyond tax policy, the budget is also expected to focus on job creation, infrastructure development, and social interventions aimed at improving the livelihoods of Ghanaians.
Given the country’s economic challenges, the budget will serve as a critical test of the administration’s ability to balance fiscal discipline with pro-growth policies.
As Dr. Forson takes the floor in Parliament today, Ghanaians will be keenly watching for concrete measures that will define the economic trajectory of the country under the new government.

The former Director of Communications for the 2024 Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign team, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has called on the government to declare a state of emergency to tackle illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
Stakeholders in the mining sector have raised concerns over the continued destruction of lands and pollution of water bodies due to illegal mining activities.
Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday, March 10, Dennis Miracles Aboagye urged the government to take decisive action to address the menace by declaring a state of emergency.
“We want the NDC to declare a state of emergency because galamsey has escalated. That is what they professed two months ago to us. We burnt excavators, we arrested illegal miners, we put them in jail and the president today said that was not the way to go but that is exactly what he is doing now.
“He said on a campaign platform that he doesn’t understand why we were arresting people in the pits and that when he comes, he will release them so why is he arresting them in the pits today?”

Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed
The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, has stated that attempts to distort political history through threats and tribal bigotry regarding the late statesman JB Danquah will not succeed.
According to the MP, who also serves as the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, JB Danquah was not only a traitor but also supported the vote against the “Motion of Destiny.”
In a Facebook post on March 9, 2025, he wrote, “The attempt to bury the true political history of this country in a grave paved over by threats and tribal bigotry will not sell. JB Danquah was not only a traitor; he also supported the vote against the ‘Motion of Destiny.’”
A Daily Guide report from March 5, 2018, highlights the significance of the Motion of Destiny in Ghana’s journey to independence.
According to the report, this was a motion presented by the late Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first president in the Legislative Assembly to exert more pressure on the then-British government.
The report explained that, on Friday, August 3, 1956, the Legislative Assembly approved the motion, calling on Britain to enact a law declaring the Gold Coast an independent state.
As noted by Tawia Adamafio, “The Motion of Destiny was an act of superb strategy, pushing Britain several steps closer to granting independence. However, the British, being masters of political maneuvering, fought back in a subtle but calculated manner.”
On the other hand, Murtala Mohammed, speaking on the floor of Parliament, asserted that JB Danquah is not worth celebrating because scholars have labeled him a traitor and a CIA agent planted in Ghana to leak state secrets.
His comments have sparked controversy, prompting the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council to petition Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to investigate the matter and demand an apology and retraction from the MP.

Chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 was destooled for his involvement in galamsey
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has destooled Nana Amofa Twumasi II, the chief of Mpasaaso No. 2 in the Ashanti region due to a number of accusations, including his involvement in illegal mining operations.
Further accusations are the lack of supervision and accountability to his community and traditional authorities, as well as his dubious royal ancestry.
The chief was pronounced guilty after addressing the accusations before the Asanteman Kumasi Traditional Council at the Manhyia Palace.
His role in illegal mining operations in the Mpasaaso community, which resulted in the damage of water sources, was the main cause of his destoolment.
The Asantehene underlined that the chief’s acts were against customs and that it is the duty of traditional leaders to enforce the law and safeguard the land.
Due to their involvement in illegal mining operations, several chiefs have recently been detooled by the Manhyia Palace.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Venture Capital and Equity Association (GVCA), Amma Gyampo, has reaffirmed the industry association’s dedication to policy and regulatory reforms, as well as professional development programs designed to facilitate greater participation of women in finance, entrepreneurship, and economic advancement.
Speaking at the 7th National Women’s Summit on March 7, 2025, under the theme “Accelerate Action: Overcoming Barriers for Women in Corporate and Public Sectors,” Gyampo emphasized the need for gender-responsive financial initiatives and improved financial literacy.
She highlighted the importance of equipping women with the knowledge to explore diverse financing alternatives beyond commonly used high-interest loans, particularly for those looking to scale their enterprises and generate employment.
She pointed out that women remain underserved by conventional financial institutions, missing out on vital opportunities to secure working and expansion capital.
“When women succeed in business and finance, it benefits their families, society, and our local economies, but they are often overlooked or not adequately supported,” Gyampo stated.
Gyampo also urged churches and religious organizations to play an active role in promoting financial literacy and economic empowerment within their communities.
“Wouldn’t it be great to see more angel investing networks and investment clubs to help women and young people network and learn about business growth?” she asked.
She noted that such platforms could empower women with the knowledge and resources needed to expand their businesses and create long-term wealth.
Additionally, she advised female entrepreneurs to leverage digital financial tools such as Built Accounting, Kudigo, and Fido to access loans, manage financial records, and streamline business operations.
She stressed that technology-driven financial solutions could significantly enhance financial literacy, making it easier for women to make informed business decisions.
Gyampo cited the successes of local enterprises such as Home Foods, Meannan, and Hubtel as examples of how entrepreneurs can identify pressing local challenges and develop scalable business solutions.
“We need to help women understand the responsibilities that come with receiving equity investment, and we need to get more women into the investment industry as fund managers, investment committee members, and growth-driven founders scaling across borders,” she said.
She encouraged policymakers to collaborate with GVCA to build a conducive environment for women-led businesses to scale, underscoring the importance of policy and regulatory reforms to expand the availability of local currency venture capital and private equity funds in Ghana.
According to her, such initiatives would not only support women-led enterprises but also attract more investment into the country while ensuring that women have access to dignified and rewarding employment opportunities.
The summit reinforced the need for collective action to eliminate obstacles preventing women from thriving in corporate and entrepreneurial spaces, ensuring they can access the financial and professional resources necessary to excel.

Jamie Leweling found the net early, but VfB Stuttgart had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Holstein Kiel in an intense Bundesliga encounter at the Holstein-Stadion.
Leweling opened the scoring in the 15th minute, finishing clinically into the bottom left corner after a well-timed pass from Enzo Millot. However, Stuttgart’s lead lasted just 15 minutes, as Steven Skrzybski equalized with a precise finish from the center of the box.
Skrzybski struck again seconds into the second half with a stunning long-range effort, putting Kiel ahead for the first time. The visitors’ problems worsened when Leonidas Stergiou received a red card in the 52nd minute, leaving Stuttgart with ten men.
Despite the numerical disadvantage, Stuttgart showed resilience, and Serhou Guirassy leveled the game in the 55th minute with a composed finish inside the box, assisted by Nick Woltemade.
Leweling, who lasted the full 90 minutes, was a constant threat, but neither side could find a winner. Stuttgart will now shift focus to their upcoming clash against Bayer Leverkusen on March 16.
Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Bono Regional Minister, has pledged to take decisive action against illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey, in the region—particularly around the Bui Dam and its surrounding ecosystem.
The Bui Dam, with a power capacity of 400 megawatts (MW), is the second-largest hydroelectric generating plant in Ghana after the Akosombo Dam.
However, illegal mining activities in the area are causing environmental degradation, including deforestation and water pollution, which could significantly impact the dam’s operations.
The minister made this pledge during a tour of galamsey-affected areas in Branam, Wenchi, and Surugbokrom in the Banda District. Accompanied by members of the Regional Security Council (RESEC), the tour aimed to assess the extent of the damage and determine appropriate measures to combat illegal mining.
He noted that National Security has been tasked with gathering detailed information on the locations and operational areas of illegal miners.
“This will help us determine the most effective and stringent measures to stop illegal mining in the area. You can see the color of the Tain River, and if we don’t act fast, it will severely affect the Bui Dam,” the minister told the media.
The minister hinted at a possible collaborative discussion with the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources to implement stricter measures against illegal mining. He emphasized that RESEC has identified specific locations and coordinates of galamsey operations and is advancing strategies to halt their activities.
Currently, illegal mining in Branam (Wenchi), Banda Boase, and Surugbokrom (Banda District) has become a safe haven for galamsey operators displaced from the southern sector.
Their activities have led to deforestation, destruction of water bodies, and damage to cashew farms, posing a serious environmental threat. The minister expressed concern that, if left unchecked, the destruction could lead to water shortages and food insecurity.
Additionally, he pointed out that nomadic cattle herders are also contributing to forest destruction in the area. He announced plans to collaborate with the Forestry Commission to address the issue.
Reports indicate that galamsey activities have been ongoing in the area for decades, with minimal destruction in the past.
However, since 2022, some Chinese nationals have collaborated with local galamsey operators in Surugbokrom, Branam, and surrounding communities.
These foreign operators provide equipment and technical expertise in exchange for gold, leading to a rise in sophisticated illegal mining operations.
This partnership has fueled concerns over environmental degradation and the exploitation of local communities, including the sale of cashew farms to illegal miners.
Illegal miners use toxic chemicals like mercury and cyanide in the gold extraction process, often washing the chemicals into shallow pits. When it rains, these pits overflow, spreading hazardous chemicals across the land and causing severe environmental pollution.
The Tain River, which plays a vital role in the livelihoods of communities along its banks, has been severely polluted, with its water turning milky brown due to illegal mining activities.
There have been intermittent blockages along the river, with miners dumping chemicals directly into the water.
This has posed a serious threat to communities such as Wenchi, Banda, Kabrono, and Tain, which rely on the river for drinking water, irrigation, fishing, livestock, and household chores.
The Regional Minister cautioned King’s Award Ghana Ltd., a gold exploration company in Branam, Wenchi, to stay away from illegal mining, emphasizing that their mandate is solely for exploration.
He also urged traditional leaders not to engage in illegal mining or allocate land for such activities, warning that they could face legal consequences.
Ghana Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson’s budget on Tuesday is expected to deliver spending cuts as the new government seeks economic stability after a painful debt restructuring.
President John Mahama easily won December elections as voters turned against the prior administration in frustration over sky-high inflation and poor economic management, which forced Ghana to seek an International Monetary Fund bailout after defaulting in 2022.
A Sowutuom Branch Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, who was jailed for four years for threatening to kill citizens during the December 7, 2024, elections, has been granted bail.
The Court of Appeal granted Mohammed Ibrahim bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with one surety pending appeal.
The three-member panel, with Justice Senyo Dzamefe (presiding), held that there was an error on the face of the record.
The Court ordered the appellant to report to the Regional Crime Officer every two weeks.
Ibrahim’s appeal was earlier turned down at the High Court when he filed for bail pending appeal.
The appellant’s lawyer, Nii Kpakpo Samuah Addo, proceeded to the Court of Appeal to appeal against the sentence.
Ibrahim was sentenced last year to four years’ imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court after he was found guilty of the charges of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and alarm, threat of harm, and offensive conduct to breach the peace.
He was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment on the charge of publication of false news with intent to cause fear and alarm, four years on the charge of threat of harm, and three years for offensive conduct.
The sentences were to run concurrently.
The prosecution’s case was that Ibrahim identified himself as the leader of a revolutionary group known as “Ka na wu,” literally meaning “Speak and die” in the Twi language.
On September 3, 2024, the Ghana Police Service’s attention was drawn to a video of Ibrahim on social media platforms—Facebook, X, and TikTok—in which he was wearing a red military beret.
In the video, he alleged that the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region, under the direction of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, and the then Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, was recruiting fake police personnel to kill citizens during the December 7 elections.
Ibrahim stated that he and his cohorts knew where the Minister lived and that, in the event of war in Ghana, “they would shoot him.”
Ibrahim also threatened to unleash violence during the elections.
On September 10, 2024, the police declared Ibrahim wanted, leading to his arrest.
A search conducted at his residence in Sowutuom led to the retrieval of the red beret he wore in the viral video.

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has indicated that he wants to keep quiet about speculation linking him with a move to English Premier League side Arsenal.
The AFC Bournemouth forward has been in impressive form throughout the 2024/25 football season.
This season, Semenyo has established himself as one of the most exciting attacking players in the English Premier League.
He has scored seven times and provided four assists in 27 league appearances.
Due to his outstanding performances, he is reportedly on Arsenal’s transfer radar.
Speaking to Bleacher Report in an interview, Semenyo hinted at his admiration for Arsenal when he revealed that his favorite ground in the Premier League is the Emirates Stadium.
However, he was quick to add that he would not comment on the reported interest in his services.
“I’m not gonna go into that… you’re not going to hear anything from me; my mouth is zipped,” Antoine Semenyo said.
Besides Arsenal, several other Premier League clubs are reportedly monitoring the Ghanaian forward.
He will decide on his future at the end of the ongoing season.

Former Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has criticized the former General Secretary of the opposition NPP, John Boadu, for contributing to the party’s internal conflicts, which he believes played a key role in their significant loss in the 2024 elections.
Speaking in an interview on Okay FM, monitored by MyNewsGH, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu took issue with Boadu’s inconsistent stance on the legitimacy of a commission set up to investigate the party’s electoral defeat.
He noted that Boadu initially dismissed the need for an investigation, only to later contradict himself by admitting that such a probe was necessary.
“At first, he said the investigation was unnecessary, but later, he turned around and said it was essential. How do you take such a person seriously when he keeps contradicting himself?” he questioned.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu also recalled Boadu’s remarks regarding the investigation’s findings, particularly his concern that the former president might mishandle the report and allow it to end up in the wrong hands.
“He said the former president might mishandle the document and that it could even end up in the wrong hands within his own household. What kind of statement is that?” he asked.
According to him, Boadu’s repeated blunders are a testament to his unsuitability for his position in the party.
“He has made numerous statements that clearly show he lacks the competence for his role,” he emphasized.

Finance minister, Dr. Ato Forson is set to present 2025 budget on March 11
The Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, is set to present the Business Statement and Economic Policy of the government for the year ending December 31, 2025, to Parliament today, March 11.
The presentation, which aligns with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution, was announced on Friday by Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, during the Business Statement for the ninth week ending Friday, March 14.
According to the Speaker of Parliament, the Finance Minister, acting on the authority of the President of the Republic, will officially present the Budget Statement and Economic Policy for the year 2025.
He urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to take note of the scheduled date and ensure their presence in the House.
Ahead of the budget presentation, some prominent members of Parliament shared their expectations with the media.
Their opinions were diverse, where some are in anticipation of hearing a scrap of some nuisance taxes including E-levy, COVID-19 levy, and betting tax, among others.
The government is urged to make a huge financial allocation to the Gender Ministry to fuel the successful implementation of the Affirmative Action Gender Equity Act 2024.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot says his side will need to produce their best performance of the season to see off Paris St-Germain and progress to the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Reds were second-best for the majority of their last-16 first leg in Paris last week, but snatched a 1-0 victory thanks to Harvey Elliott’s late strike.
It was a memorable result but Slot knows it needs to be backed up with a big performance at Anfield on Tuesday.
“Yes. I do think so,” he said, when asked if Liverpool need to be better than they have been in any other game under him so far this season.
“This is the most complete team we have faced so far.
“We have faced Arsenal and Manchester City and they are not big margins but the intensity [PSG] play at combined with the quality – and they are one of the richest clubs – and a great manager it is not easy to play against.”
Liverpool have lost just once so far at Anfield this season – a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest in September.
Slot insists his side will not adopt a cautious approach against PSG to try to avoid a second home defeat of the campaign.
“We try to play every game to try to win,” he added.
“That is also what we tried to do last week, it wasn’t our intention to be so low [deep] all the time.
“[On Tuesday] we want to play a different game, the intention is always the same – we are not going to go for a draw.”
Forward Cody Gakpo is available for selection after recovering from an injury.

Miracles Aboagye, former Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign
Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the former Director of Communications for the 2024 Bawumia Campaign, has made it clear that he is not seeking any executive position within the New Patriotic Party (NPP), despite facing opposition from certain individuals within the party.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, Aboagye addressed internal tensions following the party’s electoral defeat, stating that while some members have attempted to undermine him, he remains committed to the NPP.
He acknowledged that his rapid rise in the party has created resentment, particularly among older members who struggle to accept his influence.
Aboagye also pointed out that the competition for key positions within the party has fueled animosity from certain individuals.
However, he emphasized that his primary focus has always been on supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia rather than pursuing any personal political ambitions.
“I have no desire to pursue any executive role within the NPP, and I will not abandon the party because of a few individuals trying to undermine me,” he affirmed.
He further noted that despite the opposition, he has strong backing from party supporters and leadership, which keeps him motivated to continue working for the party.

The Amasaman Circuit Court has granted bail to a businessman and a farmer over an alleged GH¢120,000 land fraud.
Nii Korley Sai Boni IV, 53, and Kingsley Oblitey Quansah Commey, 44, were granted GH¢150,000 bail with two sureties each.
They are accused of granting 20 plots of land without titles to Raymond Kwaku Marfo, CEO of RKM Estate Development Company.
The court, presided over by Ms. Enid Marful-Sau, ordered that the sureties deposit their valid national identity cards with the Registry.
Nii Boni and Commey denied conspiring to defraud Mr. Marfo.
The court instructed the prosecution to serve the accused with necessary materials by April 2, 2025.
Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, prosecuting, said Mr. Marfo was the CEO of RKM Ghana Limited, an estate development company.
He said that Nii Boni is a businessman and self-styled chief of Korleyman near Medie, while Commey is a farmer from Papase near Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipality.
In June 2022, Mr. Marfo was working on land he purchased from Abusuapayin Ayitey Ankwah of Ankwa Dobro.
Nii Boni and Commey, along with one Obodai (now deceased), confronted Marfo, claiming ownership of the land.
The prosecution said Nii Boni and Commey convinced Marfo to buy twenty plots along the road leading to Samsam.
Marfo paid GH¢120,000 for the plots, and an official receipt was issued.
However, when Marfo attempted to begin work on the land, he was informed by the Nii Boni and Commey that there was an injunction on it.
After conducting a search at the Lands Commission, Marfo discovered the land was registered in the name of Babbel Limited.
Marfo then reported case to the Amasaman Divisional CID on May 10, 2024.
Subsequently, Nii Boni and Commey were arrested, and in their caution statements, they admitted the offence.
They promised to repay the amount involved but failed to do so.
After thorough investigations, Nii Boni and Commey were charged and brought before the court.

Nigeria’s economic crimes commission said it recovered nearly $500 million in proceeds of crime last year and secured more than 4,000 criminal convictions, its highest since the agency’s inception more than two decades ago.
Africa’s biggest energy producer, Nigeria has struggled for decades with endemic corruption, which many Nigerians say contributes to widespread poverty in the country.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which investigates and prosecutes corruption in Nigeria, said in a report on Monday that some of the recovered money was reinvested in government projects.
Nigeria is ranked 140 out of 180 on Transparency International’s latest Corruption Perception Index.

Dennis Miracle Aboagye, Former Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign
Former Communications Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign, Dennis Miracle Aboagye, has cautioned that the failure of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to cancel certain taxes in the 2025 budget would be the biggest betrayal of Ghanaians.
Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Aboagye emphasized that the opposition would ensure the government fulfills the promises it made to the people.
“We believe that for each of the things that the NDC, as a party, promised the people, and each of the pledges they made, they must fulfill them. Our job as an opposition party is to work with them to ensure that they keep their word,” he stated.
He specifically pointed to the cancellation of the betting tax, e-levy, COVID tax, and other levies that the NDC had vowed to remove if elected.
“For 2025 budget, I am looking forward to the cancellation of the betting tax, e-levy, COVID tax, and all other taxes they promised to cancel because that is the promise they made to the people of this country.
“They hold it as a responsibility to us to fulfill that promise, and we will hold their feet to the fire. I think that is what the opposition is meant to do,” he added.
Aboagye also contrasted the approach of the NPP opposition with that of the NDC during the previous administration.
“We are not going to be disruptive like they were with us. The president must fulfill his promise because they told us at the time the e-levy was introduced that they were going to cancel it. They described it as a draconian tax that imposed a lot of hardship on the people,” he remarked.
He warned that if the NDC fails to deliver on these promises, it would amount to a historic act of deception.
“It will be the grandest deception the country has ever experienced if the promise is not fulfilled. If a political party makes specific promises, assures you that if you vote for them, they will deliver, and then they fail to do so, then we are in trouble,” he concluded.

Ms Williams – who makes the claims in a new book – has also filed a whistleblower complaint with the US markets regulator, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), alleging Meta misled investors. The BBC has reviewed the complaint.
Facebook’s parent company Meta, says Ms Wynn-Williams had her employment terminated in 2017 “for poor performance”.
It is “no secret we were once interested” in operating services in China, it adds. “We ultimately opted not to go through with the ideas we’d explored.”
Meta referred us to Mark Zuckerberg’s comments from 2019, when he said: “We could never come to agreement on what it would take for us to operate there, and they [China] never let us in.”
Facebook also used algorithms to spot when young teenagers were feeling vulnerable as part of research aimed at advertisers, Ms Wynn-Williams alleges.
A former New Zealand diplomat, she joined Facebook in 2011, and says she watched the company grow from “a front row seat”.
Now she wants to show some of the “decision-making and moral compromises” that she says went on when she was there. It is a critical moment, she adds, as “many of the people I worked with… are going to be central” to the introduction of AI.
In her memoir, Careless People, Ms Wynn-Williams paints a picture of what she alleges working on Facebook’s senior team was like.
Mr Zuckerberg, she says, did not get up before midday, loved karaoke and did not like to be beaten at board games, such as Risk. “I didn’t realise that you were supposed to let him win. I was a little naive,” she told us.
However, Ms Wynn-Williams says her allegations about the company’s close relationship with China provide an insight into Facebook’s decision-making at the time.
Mark Zuckerberg loves board games, but hates losing – according to Sarah Wynn-Williams
“China is Mark Zuckerberg’s white whale,” meaning a goal that he obsessively pursued, says Ms Wynn-Williams.
The country is the world’s biggest social media market, but access to Facebook remains blocked there, alongside the likes of X and YouTube.
“It’s the one piece on the board game that he hasn’t conquered,” she says.
Ms Wynn-Williams claims that in the mid-2010s, as part of its negotiations with the Chinese government, Facebook considered allowing it future access to Chinese citizens’ user data.
“He was working hand in glove with the Chinese Communist Party, building a censorship tool… basically working to develop sort of the antithesis of many of the principles that underpin Facebook,” she told the BBC.
Ms Wynn-Williams says governments frequently asked for explanations of how aspects of Facebook’s software worked, but were told it was proprietary information.
“But when it came to the Chinese, the curtain was pulled back,” she says.
“Engineers were brought out. They were walked through every aspect, and Facebook was making sure these Chinese officials were upskilled enough that they could not only learn about these products, but then test Facebook on the censorship version of these products that they were building.”
Meta told the BBC that such claims about China had been “widely reported” at the time.

In her SEC complaint, Ms Wynn-Williams also alleges Mr Zuckerberg and other Meta executives had made “misleading statements… in response to Congressional inquiries” about China.
One answer given by Mr Zuckerberg to Congress in 2018 said Facebook was “not in a position to know exactly how the [Chinese] government would seek to apply its laws and regulations on content”
Meta told the BBC that Mr Zuckerberg gave accurate testimony, adding it did not operate services in China.
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg went running around Beijing’s Tiananmen Square on a visit to China in 2016
Most Facebook executives didn’t allow their own children on Facebook – according to Ms Wynn-Williams. “They had screen bans. They certainly wouldn’t allow them to use the product.”
And yet she says reports from 2017 – that the company had been using algorithms to target and categorise vulnerable teens – were true.
“The algorithm could infer that they were feeling worthless or unhappy,” she alleges.
The company – which also owns Instagram and WhatsApp – could, she claims, identify when a teenage girl had deleted a selfie on its platforms, and then notify a beauty company that it would be a good moment to target the child with an advert.
Ms Wynn-Williams says she “felt sick” at the thought and tried to push back, “although I knew it was futile”.
“They said: ‘The business side thinks this is exactly what we should be doing. We’ve got this amazing product, we can get young people, which is a really important advertising segment.'”
Meta told the BBC this was false – it has never offered tools to target people based on their emotional state – and that the research it previously did was to help marketers understand how people express themselves on Facebook, not to target ads.
Ms Wyn-Williams wants Meta to change as it “influences so much of our day-to-day life”
Overall, Ms Wynn-Williams says the company has not done enough to address the issue of young people’s safety on social media.
“This is one of the most valuable companies in the world. They could invest in this and make it a real priority and do more to fix it.”
Facebook said it was transparent about advert-targeting and had shared updates regarding its approach to creating age-appropriate advert experiences for teens.
It also said it had introduced “Teen Accounts” for tens of millions of young people with built-in protections. It also said it was giving parents more oversight over their teens’ use of the app.
As well as poor performance, Meta says the 45-year-old was also fired for “toxic behaviour” after she had made “misleading and unfounded allegations of harassment”.
But Ms Wynn-Williams told the BBC she was let go after she had complained about inappropriate comments by one of her bosses – Joel Kaplan, who is now Meta’s chief global affairs officer.
Meta told us she had been paid by “anti-Facebook activists” and she was not a whistleblower.
“Whistleblower status protects communications to the government, not disgruntled activists trying to sell books,” it said.
Mark Zuckerberg (l), along with Jeff Bezos (c) and Elon Musk (r), attended the inauguration of President Trump in Washington DC in January
In regard to Ms Wynn-Williams’ book, Meta has confirmed to the BBC that it has launched legal action in the US to “halt the further distribution of defamatory and untrue information”.
To counter this, a legal representative for Ms Wynn-Williams said: “Meta has made a number of false and inconsistent statements about Sarah since the news of her memoir broke… while Meta’s statements are trying to mislead the public, the book speaks for itself”
We asked her why she was speaking out now. She said she wanted Meta to change as it “influences so much of our day-to-day life” and we need to ensure “we get the future we deserve”.
“We’re in this moment where tech and political leaders are coming together and as they combine forces, that has a lot of consequences for all of us.
“I think it’s really important to understand that and to understand you look at all these engineers who are influencing the highest level of government.”

Akosua Manu, former deputy director of communications at the office of former First Lady Rebecca Aku
Akosua Manu, a former deputy director of communications at the office of former First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has defended the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) handling of the economy, arguing that external factors significantly contributed to Ghana’s economic challenges.
She rejected claims that the country’s economic difficulties were solely due to mismanagement by the Akufo-Addo-led administration.
“The reality is that external shocks played a major role in what we are facing today. To blame everything on the government without considering global factors is unfair,” she stated.
Manu emphasized that despite the economic downturn, the government took decisive steps to cushion Ghanaians, implementing policies to stabilize key sectors.
She highlighted initiatives that supported businesses, job creation efforts, and interventions in the education and health sectors.
“We did not sit back and watch things collapse. The government worked tirelessly to ensure that Ghanaians were protected from the worst effects of these global crises,” she added during an interview on Metro TV.
Meanwhile, watch this Ghana Month special edition of People and Places as we hear the story of how the head of Kwame Nkrumah’s bronze statue was returned after 43 years, below:
Emeritus Professor Kwasi Kwafo Adarkwa, former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has emphasized the importance of giving individuals, including former prisoners, a chance to reintegrate and contribute positively to society.
Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TVwith Bernard Avle, Prof. Adarkwa reflected on his experiences while discussing his book, Against All Odds.
He recounted growing up in an environment where he interacted closely with individuals who had been on remand, which shaped his perspective on rehabilitation and societal inclusion.
He observed that many prisoners are often written off by society due to the charges leveled against them, making reintegration difficult.
However, he urged the public not to dismiss them entirely, emphasizing that they, too, have the potential to rise above their past and become influential and productive members of the community
“We lived with those who had been on remand. We really feared nobody. The central barracks, Koforidua, was right in the middle of the town, and the cells were in the middle of the barracks.
“We saw them every day, we took our baths with them in the public bath houses. The essence is that don’t write those people [prisoners] off. They can also shine to become people of influence in society and useful to society. That is why I wrote the book,” he shared.

Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, has urged the government to make substantial allocations to the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat in the upcoming 2025 budget.
He stressed the importance of sustaining and increasing investment in the Free SHS program to ensure its continued success and to support students and their families.
“It will be one of the serious issues for the government to do, to cut investment in free SHS. We have done our best, and we expect that they must continue so that at least we have dedicated funding for this free SHS programme so that we don’t see our people demanding food from their parents here and there,” Acquah stated on the Channel One Newsroom on Monday.
The MP further emphasized the need for sufficient funding to maintain the program’s effectiveness, ensuring students receive the necessary resources without financial strain on their families.
“We expect that government does a lot of allocation to the Free SHS Secretariat,” he added.

Geisha Soap, Ghana’s beloved skin cleansing brand, has celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) 2025 at the successful 7th Geisha National Women’s Summit & Expo held on Friday, 7th March 2025.
The event, organised by Charterhouse in partnership with Joy FM, provided a vibrant platform for women’s empowerment, inspiration, and action-oriented discussions.
Under the theme for IWD 2025, “Accelerate Action,” the Summit brought together a diverse group of women leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, and students at the Grand Arena of the International Conference Centre.
For the fourth year in a row, Geisha was the headline sponsor for the event, underscoring the importance the brand places on women’s empowerment.
Derrick Odechie-Bossman, Brand Manager for Geisha Soap, emphasised that “Geisha is deeply rooted in the values of strength, resilience, and inclusion.”
This year’s edition introduced the “Industry Spotlight” series, showing the critical role of women in Ghana’s agribusiness sector. Geisha, with a focus on natural ingredients, recognizes the importance of women’s contributions to the agricultural value chain as discussions explored challenges, opportunities, and strategies to advance gender equality in agriculture.
“Our continued partnership with the National Women’s Summit & Expo allows us to amplify these values and celebrate the remarkable achievements of Ghanaian women. We believe that when women are empowered, they contribute significantly to building a more prosperous and inclusive society,” said Nana Yaa Owusu-Ansah, Beauty and Personal Care Marketing Director for Ghana and Francophone Africa at Unilever Ghana.
The Summit featured a session on Affirmative Action Law Implementation Tracker (AALIT), a collaborative initiative to track the implementation of the Affirmative Action Law. Panel discussions with women and experts fostered dialogue on ensuring the law translates into tangible progress. “We believe that tracking the law’s progress is crucial to ensuring its effectiveness in achieving gender parity,” stated Nana Yaa Owusu-Ansah.
As part of the Summit, renowned speakers, including the keynote speaker, Mrs. Efua Ghartey, President of the Ghana Bar Association, and other panelists addressed topics such as women in business, corporate leadership, creative industries, and youth empowerment.
Young girls aged 12-19 received valuable guidance from experienced mentors, covering topics like time management, building confidence, and career exploration, and there was a career fair where students, job seekers, and mid-career professionals benefited from workshops, networking opportunities, and resources to navigate their career paths effectively.
Throughout the month of March, Geisha is dedicating time and resources to women empowerment, embarking on a search for 10 aspiring female leaders in agribusiness to offer them training that will boost their skills and increase their chances of success.
These include skills like budgeting and negotiation, as well as soft skills development for business success.
Geisha’s commitment to women’s empowerment extends to its core of natural ingredients. The brand offers a range of variants to cater to diverse skin needs and comes in Shea Butter, African Black Soap and Charcoal, Aloe Vera, Rose, and Coconut variants.
