Reactions trail house help’s behaviour

“The way you treat your maid matters. It’s essential to treat them with respect and kindness. However, it’s common to feel the need to assert authority and remind them who’s in charge but not necessary.

“Instead of shouting or being overly critical, try giving them space to work independently. Avoid correcting them in a disrespectful manner, and let minor mistakes slide.

“Remember, showing empathy and understanding can go a long way. Allow them to take days off to spend time with their loved ones, including their boyfriends, husbands, or children.

“You don’t own the maids, grant them freedom to do what their love too.”

Monde Kashewe said:

“The problem is you want to love them like they are your relatives. Remember how u hated that job of yours?, that’s how your maid hates you. 🤣 😂”

Doris Nambela Nakanyika said:

“I don’t think it’s fair to judge her for leaving . The only bad thing she did was leaving without notice . Otherwise Many people switch jobs for better prospects, and don’t tell me that you have never seen people look and apply for jobs while still employed. Mind you companies spend a lot of money on training and short courses. The fact that she’s a maid shouldn’t make a difference.”

How to wear red lipstick the right way

0

wearing red lipstick: picture: pexels

A bold red lip is timeless, sophisticated, and undeniably powerful. It has the ability to transform a look instantly, making even the simplest outfit appear polished and intentional. However not all red lipsticks are created equal, and finding the right shade for your skin tone can be the difference between a striking statement and a shade that feels out of place. The right red should complement your complexion, enhance your natural beauty, and work seamlessly with the rest of your makeup and outfit.

Choosing the right red for your skin tone

The key to finding your perfect red lipstick starts with understanding your undertones. Skin can have warm, cool, or neutral undertones, and different reds will either complement or clash depending on where you fall on the spectrum.

For those with cool undertones, blue-based reds are the most flattering. Shades with a hint of berry or cherry add richness and depth without overwhelming the complexion. Think classic Hollywood glamour—crisp, cool-toned reds that make teeth appear whiter and skin look brighter.

If you have warm undertones, reds with orange or golden hues will complement your natural warmth. Brick reds, corals, and fiery tones bring out the golden tones in your skin, creating a harmonious and radiant effect.

For neutral undertones, there’s more flexibility. Both blue-based and orange-based reds can work, though the most universally flattering option tends to be a true red—a balanced shade that doesn’t lean too cool or too warm. These classic reds offer a bold yet wearable effect that suits a variety of skin tones.

Deeper skin tones can play with intense, rich reds, from deep crimsons to wine and oxblood shades, while fairer complexions often find vibrant reds more striking. The best way to find your ideal red is to test different shades against your skin in natural lighting, ensuring it enhances rather than washes you out.

Pairing your red lipstick with the rest of your makeup

A red lip is the centrepiece of any look, so keeping the rest of your makeup balanced is key. The classic approach is a minimal, polished face that allows the lips to take centre stage. Fresh, glowing skin with a light touch of blush prevents the complexion from looking too stark against a bold red. A touch of mascara and soft eyeliner can define the eyes without overpowering the lips.

For a vintage-inspired look, a sleek cat-eye pair effortlessly with a red lip, creating a striking yet timeless aesthetic. If you’re aiming for a more modern approach, opt for soft, neutral eyeshadows and subtly defined brows to keep the focus on the lips.

For evening events, a red lip can be paired with a bit more drama. A softly smudged smoky eye in warm brown or bronze tones adds depth without competing with the lips, while a subtle highlight on the high points of the face enhances the overall glow. The key is to avoid overpowering the lips—balance is everything.

Styling your red lipstick with your outfit

The right red lipstick can elevate any outfit, whether it’s casual or formal. For a classic and effortlessly chic look, pairing red lips with an all-black outfit creates a striking contrast. A simple white blouse or tailored blazer allows the lips to become the focal point, adding an air of sophistication.

If you’re looking to embrace colour, red can be surprisingly versatile. Wearing red lipstick with a monochromatic red outfit creates a bold, fashion-forward statement. If that feels too daring, try pairing your red lip with complementary tones like deep burgundy, camel, or navy.

Jewellery and accessories should also be considered. Silver tones tend to enhance blue-based reds, while gold jewellery pairs beautifully with warmer red shades. The same principle applies to nails—coordinating your red lipstick with a matching red manicure can create a polished, put-together effect.

Finding confidence in your signature red

Wearing red lipstick is as much about confidence as it is about finding the right shade. While the perfect red exists for everyone, the real secret is wearing it with conviction. Whether you’re opting for a subtle matte finish or a glossy, high-shine look, embracing a red lip is about making a statement and owning it.

Once you find your signature shade, it becomes a beauty staple that can take you from casual daytime elegance to evening glamour with just a swipe. Red lipstick is more than just makeup—it’s a statement of self-assurance, individuality, and timeless style.

NEDCo Staff protest political appointments, demand reversal

0

Staff and management of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) have hoisted red banners in protest against what they describe as political appointments to their Corporate Communications Office in Tamale.

The protest follows reports of the appointment of two NDC communication officers to occupy key positions within the corporate communications offices of VRA and NEDCo, a move that has sparked widespread opposition among staff.

The leadership of the Volta River Authority (VRA) and NEDCo Staff Groups has strongly rejected the alleged appointments, warning that they could compromise professionalism and operational integrity within the institutions.

Speaking to Citi News on Friday March 21, William K. Asare, Chairman of the Senior Staff Association-NEDCo, described the move as a recipe for disaster and called for a reversal of the decision.

“Never in our history has an appointment for managerial position being filled from the office of the president…If this is allowed to stand tomorrow we will wake up and somebody holds a letter from the office of the president purporting to manage transport…We are telling the appointing authority that that is not he way to go.

“…We are giving the minister a notice by next week, if we don’t get a favourable response we will speak the language that politicians understand. We will advise ourselves.”

World Cup 2026Q: Chad players who could threaten Ghana’s redemption mission

0

Ghana’s journey toward redemption begins on Friday in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars find themselves in troubled waters – winless in their last six matches – a dismal run that saw them miss out on a place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

With mounting pressure, Coach Otto Addo is racing against time to turn Ghana’s fortunes around.

The support from the Ghana Football Association, Parliament, and Ghana President John Mahama has been unwavering, but now, the results must follow.

However, securing victory may not be straightforward, as Chad arrive with players capable of tormenting the Black Stars.

Despite their poor form, just three wins in six years, the visitors possess dangerous weapons that could punish any lapse in Ghana’s defense.

Mahamat Thiam

The defensive midfielder has established himself as one of the best in the Georgian football division for Kolkheti 1913.

He is a regular in the Chad national team setup, having made his debut a year ago.

The 23-year-old’s ability to maneuver with the ball in tight spaces and his vision in finding teammates making incursions make him a vital cog in the team.

If Thiam dictates the tempo, Chad’s chances of causing an upset will skyrocket and Ghana must find a way to neutralise him.

Youssouf Abderamane

Youssouf Abdraman primarily plays as an attacking midfielder or a striker.

The 20-year-old came on as a substitute in a match against Sierra Leone in November during the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and impressed many with his composure, work rate, and performance on and off the ball.

Despite Chad losing 4-0 against Côte d’Ivoire on November 19, 2024, Abdraman was one of the best players on the pitch, receiving a Sofascore rating of 6.7.

A weapon Chad could rely on.

Abakar Goukoui

He is a forward who plays for TP Elect Sport in Chad, and his inclusion in the national squad speaks volume of his offensive capabilities.

Goukoui is expected to be a key player in Chad’s attacking strategy, by aiming to challenge opposing defenses with his goal-scoring prowess.

He can pose several threats to Ghana’s defense with his strong physical presence, which allows him to hold off defenders and compete in aerial duels, making him a target man for crosses and long balls.

The Chadian is also capable of making quick runs behind defensive lines, exploiting gaps left by Ghana’s full-backs or center-backs if they push too high up the pitch.

Though Chad is considered an underdog, players like Goukoui will be eager to prove themselves by causing the Black Stars problems.

I back Adwoa Safo – Obiri Boahen

0

Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP

Nana Obiri Boahen, a former Deputy General Secretary of the NPP, has declared his full support for Sarah Adwoa Safo over her recent outbursts about what she described as unfair treatments meted out to her by the New Patriotic Party, (NPP).

“Adwoa Safo did nothing wrong. I will stand by Adwoa Safo against Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary of the NPP on this matter. Most of the things she said were factual. Instead of calling her privately to calm her down and explore ways to patch up, the party issues a public statement and follows it with a query for her,” he said on Okay FM on March 21, 2025.

Obiri Boahen indicated that the explosive interviews by the former MP for Dome-Kwabenya on selected media platforms uncovered many secrets needed to diagnose the problem that caused the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 Election.

He stated that he was hearing for the first time through Adwoa Safo’s media discourses that some NPP MPs petitioned against Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye as the candidate to contest Alban Bagbin for the speakership position in Parliament.

“Do you know that this is the first time I’m hearing that some MPs petitioned against Aaron Mike Oquaye contesting for the speakership position?

“If she hadn’t come out to say it in her recent interviews, we would all have been kept in the dark. Is this how you rebuild a party?” he asked rhetorically.

He questioned the credibility of the former Speaker of Parliament and demanded why they would allow him to chair the 11-member committee set up to investigate the 2024 electoral defeat, given the opposition from some legislators in the party.

He stated that the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration sidelined experienced party members who were ready and willing to help the party stay in power.

“Do you know that I was never called for any major communication meeting during the campaign season? I can swear that I didn’t even know where the national campaign office was. I remember only visiting Bawumia’s campaign office about twice or so. But nobody called me to make inputs during the electioneering season. So, I also sat in my corner and minded my business,” he said.

Asked if he was unfazed by a query from the NPP’s Disciplinary Committee for boldly declaring these facts, he stated that he could not be tamed for pointing out weaknesses in the party that led to their abysmal performance in the 2024 Election.

“It takes a few courageous people like myself and Adwoa Safo to come out to point out the wrongs. The party does not feed me. I feed myself, so they can’t gag me,” he said.

Kelvyn Boy apologises for TGMA comments

Afrobeats artiste, Kelvyn Boy Afrobeats artiste, Kelvyn Boy

Kelvyn Boy has apologised to the organisers of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) following some ‘distasteful’ comments he posted about the omission of Kojo Blak’s “Excellent” from the nominations list.

The controversy began when fans on social media questioned why the song “Excellent” by Kojo Black and Kelvyn Boy was not included in the nominations.

In response, Kelvyn Boy took to Twitter to rant, accusing Charterhouse of what he described as their habit of engaging in actions that often put them in the negative spotlight during the VGMA season.

“Charterhouse is a bad b**ch. She always wants to be talked about,” he tweeted.

Addressing the controversy, Robert Klah, Head of Communications at Charterhouse, explained on Hitz FM that “Excellent” was excluded because it was released late in the year under review.

He noted that including the song would have been unfair, as it gained significant traction mainly in 2025, which fell outside the eligibility period for the awards.

Kelvyn Boy, having learned this, apologised for his rants.

“Perhaps the song will be considered for the following year, as the artiste who submitted the song was expecting a nomination. I think we’re good now, and I want to use this opportunity to offer a very big apology to my boss Robert and Charterhouse,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, the 2025 TGMAs is scheduled to take place on May 3, 2025, at the Grand Arena, Accra.

The event will be preceded by a pre-party on May 2, bringing together nominees and industry stakeholders for networking and discussions.

Also, there will be a nominees’ jam, also known as the TGMA Xperience, on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

Zimbabwe’s sports minister, Kirsty Coventry, was elected as the 100th President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on March 20, 2025.

She won the election in the first round after reaching the absolute majority (50+ one vote) mark, defeating her competitors to become the first woman and African to occupy the position.

The 41-year-old will officially take up the role on June 24, 2025, from the incumbent president, Thomas Bach, who has been in charge of the role for the past 12 years.

Speaking on the historic victory, Coventry expressed joy and promised to deliver on the expectations of the electorate.

“This is an extraordinary moment. As a nine-year-old girl, I never thought I would be standing here one day, giving back to this incredible movement of ours.

“This is not just a huge honour, it’s also a reminder of my commitment to every single one of you that I will lead this organization with pride, upholding the values at its core, and making all of you very proud and confident in the decision you’ve taken today,” she said.

Coventry will assume the role at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty worldwide, with questions surrounding the direction of the Olympic movement in the 21st century and increased scrutiny of issues related to gender identity and equality.

The role is expected to bolster African representation during Olympic Games and invest in sports development in the country.

About Kirsty Coventry

Kirsty Leigh Coventry Seward was born on September 16, 1983. She is a Zimbabwean swimmer, politician, and sports administrator.

She has served as the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts, and Recreation in the Cabinet of Zimbabwe since September 2018.

As a former Olympic swimmer and world record holder, she is the most decorated Olympian from Africa.

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, she won three Olympic medals: a gold, a silver, and a bronze. In the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, she won four medals: a gold and three silvers.

She was elected Chairperson of the IOC Athletes’ Commission in early 2018.

Coventry retired from swimming after her fifth Olympics, having won the joint-most individual medals in women’s swimming in Olympic history.

It is time to take a critical look at how we plan our markets – President Mahama

0

By Kwabia Owusu-Mensah/Samuel Ofori Boateng

Kumasi March 21, GNA – President John Dramani Mahama, has stressed urgent need to take a critical look at how the country’s markets are planned.

“It is time for Ghana to start rethink about how to plan our markets to prevent the reoccurrence of fires”, he stated, during a visit to the devastating fire disaster scene at Adum, the central business district of Kumasi.

He described the situation as very sad, looking at the extent of damage caused by the fire, which started early morning on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Three major storey-buildings, which contain many stores, hundreds of container shops, stalls and table-top shops, with merchandize goods running into millions of Ghana cedis were

destroyed during devastating fire, which occurred between the Hello FM and the Kumasi Central market.

No casualty was recorded, but two people, including a fire officer, were said to have been injured in the incident.

Lack of access road to the enclave between Hello FM and the Kumasi central market impeded efforts by fire fighters to control the blaze on time.

President John Dramani Mahama thanked officers of the Ghana National Fire Service for the prompt response, which managed to control the fire from spreading beyond the enclave.

According to him, information he received from the fire officers indicated that lack of access contributed to the inability of fire tenders to dose off the fire on time.

He extended sympathies to the affected traders and said he had asked NADMO, the Regional Coordinating Council and other relief agencies, to offer support to the affected traders, while efforts were made to rebuild the market.

He outlined the fund’s primary purposes, emphasizing its importance in responding to emergencies, funding capacity building, and facilitating local investments.

Answering questions during his vetting, Mr. Yanson explained that the reserve fund acts as a contingency resource, enabling the government to respond quickly to unexpected events such as natural disasters or health emergencies.

Citing examples like the tidal waves in the Volta Region and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, he highlighted how the Fund has been instrumental in providing critical support to the District Assemblies during such times.

“The reserve Fund serves the purpose of holding funds to support any districts that find themselves in situations requiring resources beyond their capabilities,” Mr. Yanson said.

Additionally, he pointed out that the fund is used for training and capacity building.

According to him, as local governments are entrusted with ever-larger portions of the national budget, it is essential that district offices are equipped to handle these responsibilities.

The reserve fund, Mr. Yanson noted, helps finance such training programmes.

He noted that the reserve fund is also used to support local investments that may be beyond the financial reach of district assemblies.

He said this ensures that essential infrastructure projects and initiatives can be executed, even when local budgets fall short.

Addressing concerns raised about conflicts between Members of Parliament (MPs) and District Chief Executives (DCEs), Mr. Yanson acknowledged that such disputes can occasionally arise, particularly when MPs from opposition parties face difficulties in accessing funds or getting approval for projects.

The nominee committed to resolving these issues by working closely with local government leadership and fostering cooperation between MPs and DCEs.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring that funds are disbursed in a timely manner, as the ultimate goal is to ensure that money translates into development.

“We will work to bring all parties together, seek advice from leadership, and resolve conflicts swiftly,” Mr. Yanson said.

He also hinted at the possibility of establishing alternative channels for project approval, especially when DCEs refuse to sign off on projects, ensuring that local development continues unhindered.

Susu Graham’s Ghana vs Chad preview: Last chance for Otto Addo?

0

The Black Stars of Ghana will be looking to bounce back from their embarrassing African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign when they face lowly Chad in Accra on Friday 21st March 2025.

Chad who are ranked 176 out of 210 in the FIFA world rankings is Africa’s sixth worst team ahead of Somalia, Seychelles, Djibouti, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mauritius.

This should be an easy win for the Black Stars and allow them to restore some goodwill and confidence after the failure to qualify for the next AFCON, but questions still linger over Otto Addo’s ability to lead the Black Stars to North America next summer for the 2026 World Cup.

The Black Stars’ AFCON qualifying debacle was a harrowing experience for Ghanaians. Ghana managed to score 3 goals across six games and conceded seven goals and registering three draws and three defeats.

World Cup qualifying has gone much better with three wins from four games with seven goals scored but five conceded. This hints at a defensive fragility which needs to be addressed.

Otto Addo’s side have kept just one clean sheet in the last year and that was against a Sudan team that were very happy to get a point in Accra. This inability to keep goals out has exacerbated the attacking issues I will touch upon soon.

Addo may have a reasonable excuse. He has been unable to call upon his seemingly first-choice backline of Alexander Djiku and Mohammed Salisu only thrice in the last year. Incidentally, this was the only combination that managed to keep a clean sheet.

Another issue is the change from a back four to a back three or back five that Addo regularly employs. For the most part, it has failed as a gambit as the side have failed to keep clean sheets in any of the games that Addo has used the back three in the last year.

The defence needs to be much better especially since the attack is tragic. Ghana have conceded 12 goals in their last 10 qualifiers (World Cup and AFCON). This is nowhere near good enough the attack has not been good enough to compensate.

Goal scoring has been a struggle for this side. In the last 10 qualifiers, Ghana has scored 10 goals, two fewer than they have conceded and the only player with more than a goal is Jordan Ayew. Considering that in club competitions with Leicester City he might be the least potent attacker, is a concerning situation.

Otto Addo’s inability to get the best out of our attackers is one of his greatest failures. This season, Inaki Williams has 10 goals and nine assists, Ernest Nuamah has six goals and two assists, and Antoine Semenyo has nine goals and five assists, they are regularly contributing at club level but have two goals between them in the last 10 qualifiers.

This is concerning and hints at a need to change our attacking structure as we are not getting the best out of these talented attackers.

Despite this, Ghana should be able to beat Chad. Excluding two wins in their last 12 games with both coming against Mauritius, Les Sao have scored two goals and conceded 17 in the other 10 games losing seven of them in the process.

Chad will be without their record appearance maker and goal scorer Ezechiel N’Douassel who is no longer part of the national team set-up despite still being active meaning the task is made more difficult than it already is.

The road to 2026 continues on Friday and Les Sao offer an easy chance at improvement for a Ghana side that has been underperforming so far. If Otto Addo cannot manage a convincing win here his time as Black Stars coach should be coming to an end sooner rather than later.

Before December Na Adwoa Safo Agu NPP – Video Causes Stir as Adwoa Safo Reveals How NPP Destroyed her Father’s Transport Company

Former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has revealed that her own party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), demolished the site of a transport company her father owned in Accra.

Speaking in an interview on Okay 101.7Fm in Accra, she revealed that her father, Apostle Ing Dr Kwadwo Safo, head of the Kristo Asafo church, owned a transport company known as Imperial Express with its premises located near Agbogbloshie in Central Accra.

Safo said the land the company’s premises was located on was government land which had been leased to her father’s company.

She said that during the period she appeared to be having some issues with other members of her own party, she and her father woke up one day to discover that the transport company premises had been demolished by a governmental task force.

Safo said they received no notice of the demolition, meaning they could not even evacuate their valuables such as vehicles from the place. They simply heard it had been demolished.

The former Gender Minister revealed she kept all these trials and tribulations against her and her father under wraps but feels now is the right time to reveal everything.

Government to source sanitary pads locally for schoolgirls

0

By Francis Ntow

Accra, March 20, GNA – The government will procure sanitary pads locally for free distribution to schoolgirls nationwide to tackle menstrual poverty and support Ghanaian businesses.

Madam Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness, announced this during a courtesy call by the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).

She said the government, under the 2024 budget, allocated GHS292.4 million for the initiative, which would benefit 1.3 million female students in basic and secondary schools.

The initiative aims to address menstrual hygiene challenges, reduce absenteeism, and promote import substitution.

The AGI appealed to the minister to create a support system for local manufacturers to meet the demand and limit imports.

Madam Ofosu-Adjare revealed that all sanitary pads for free distribution would be sourced from Ghanaian manufacturers.

“Even though that was not added [to the budget], I met with all pad manufacturing companies two days ago, and they have been informed that all the free sanitary pads will be sourced from Ghana,” she said.

The minister urged local businesses operating at 20-30 per cent capacity to increase production, citing plans to improve import substitution and promote exports.

“So, even before we amend the Public Procurement Act (PPA) to give made in Ghana goods the opportunity, we are already doing it, making sure that government will buy stuff that are made in Ghana to improve import substitution and to encourage exports,” said, Mad Ofosu-Adjare.

Sanitary pads currently attract a 12.5% VAT and 20% import tax, making them costly for many, especially rural residents.

Advocacy groups have repeatedly called for tax exemptions, arguing that menstruation is a natural and essential process for women.

In 2023, the government provided zero-rated VAT on locally produced sanitary pads and import duty waivers for raw materials used in their production.

The President of the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB), Kwamina Asomaning, has expressed optimism about the recovery of Ghana’s banking sector, stating that the industry is gradually stabilizing after facing major economic challenges.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Asomaning acknowledged the economic shocks the sector has endured but highlighted the progress being made.

“I think it’s fair to say that we are on a path to recovery. We’re not completely out of the woods, but compared to 2022 and 2023, there has been significant improvement in key economic indicators and within the sector itself,” he stated.

Challenges and Recovery Efforts

Ghana’s banking sector faced severe disruptions due to:

The COVID-19 pandemic

Ghana’s sovereign debt crisis, which impacted banks exposed to government bonds

Liquidity constraints and a loss of investor confidence

Despite these setbacks, Asomaning noted that the industry is showing resilience, with improving economic indicators such as inflation control, exchange rate stability, and growth forecasts.

Role of the Bank of Ghana

He credited the Bank of Ghana (BoG) for implementing policies that have helped restore stability and confidence in the financial system.

“The regulator has been very instrumental in ensuring that the right policies and measures are in place to restore confidence in the sector,” he added.

Looking Ahead

Asomaning emphasized the need for banks to remain agile and innovative, adapting to changes while strengthening their operations for long-term growth.

“The challenges we have faced reinforce the importance of resilience and adaptability,” he noted.

The banking sector continues to work closely with regulators to sustain the recovery momentum and position itself for future stability and expansion.

Adom-Otchere lists Ursula, Gabby, other NPP gurus on Jakpa’s next list of raids

Paul Adom-Otchere (M) has listed Gabby (L), Ursula (2nd from right), and Dame as part of that list Paul Adom-Otchere (M) has listed Gabby (L), Ursula (2nd from right), and Dame as part of that list

The Host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has revealed what he says is a list of some of the targets of the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, for his next line if raids.

These names are prominent people in the former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration, the broadcaster alleged.

According to him, the list came after the Special Aide to the President, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, asked when Jakpa would arrest some persons who played critical roles in the erstwhile NPP government.

“Joyce Bawah was asking Richard Jakpa that when are you going to arrest Paul Adom-Otchere and his plenty talk? As for Paul, we will get him but we have to go to Addison, then Okatakyie before we go to him,” he claims

Speaking on his programme on March 20, 2025, Adom-Otchere alleged that Jakpa has plans of raiding the former Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah; the former Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful; NPP stalwart, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko; and former Attorney General, Godfred Dame.

Also on the list, Adom-Otchere mentioned his own name as part of the people supposedly on the list by Richard Jakpa.

“They went to Ameyaw’s house at 4am, harassed Gifty Oware-Mensah, and released her but we don’t know what has happened. Now, they arrest people and do not file a writ in court but we are waiting. The Attorney General said he will be filing on NPP members who have stolen money, and we are still waiting in March,” he stated.

Adom-Otchere also stated that the NDC-led government is panicking as they do not know ways to face the issues and they have to hurriedly arrest people to divert the attention on national issues.

Earlier, the immediate-past Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison’s home was raided by some National Security operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat.

Reports said the raid on the residence of the former Bank of Ghana Governor was done with 20 armed men on March 19, 2025.

The reports added that Dr Addison was at home when the heavily armed men, some wearing balaclavas and wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, arrived to conduct a search.

It also indicated that the team repeatedly disabled all CCTV cameras in the house.

They then demanded that Dr Addison leads them to the ‘vaults’ in his house, adding that the former governor, in shock, calmly told them that he had no vaults or any such cache of cash at home.

Following that, the Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, visited the former BoG governor at his residence.

The Black Stars of Ghana will face Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium in a crucial battle for qualification for the 2026 World Cup on Friday, March 21, 2025

With the critical game on the horizon, under-fire Black Stars coach Otto Addo isn’t just bringing tactics; he’s bringing glamour too.

In a post made on the official Facebook page of the team, Addo is seen sporting a Ghana FA-branded jacket and a bold, eye-catching tie, striking a perfect balance between focus and flair.

Although he is under immense pressure to deliver, his composed demeanour suggests he’s ready for the challenge and determined to bring smiles back to the faces of Ghanaians.

Anything less than a win against Chad could jeopardize the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the Mundial, but Addo remains confident in his side’s ability to secure all three points.

During the pre-match press conference on Thursday, March 20, 2025, he said that the frequent interactions between the players, Winfred Schafer, and Black Stars psychologist Kris Perquy will help to keep the team focused on the pitch.

Following Madagascar’s victory over the Central African Republic on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, and Mali’s victory over Comoros on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Black Stars currently sit second with nine points. A win against Chad will see them go top.

NPP Ashanti caucus demands probe into frequent fire outbreaks

0

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Caucus has called on the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, to investigate the recurring fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region insisting on the implementation of comprehensive measures to prevent further incidents.

They emphasized that the region, as a major economic hub, cannot continue to suffer from such disasters without a decisive response from authorities.

Their call follows a devastating fire outbreak at Adum, in the heart of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which destroyed several shops and properties on Friday, March 21. The fire also left two individuals, including a fire officer, with varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement released on March 21, amid the ongoing fire incident, the caucus urged urgent government action to protect lives, livelihoods, and investments in the region.

The group also expressed concerns over the challenges faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in responding to fire outbreaks.

They attributed these struggles to a lack of modern firefighting equipment, inadequate water supply infrastructure, and insufficient personnel.

“Once again, we stand in solidarity with all those affected and assure them of our unwavering support as we push for swift government intervention to address these persistent fire outbreaks.” the statement concluded.

Elite self-preservation disguised as compromise

0

The handshake is an honoured tradition of Kenyan politics. It signifies the coming together of seemingly intractable enemies into an agreement to share the spoils rather than fight over them.

It has always been negotiated in secret between a party with state power and a rival claiming popular legitimacy and has always functioned as a ploy by the political elite to dent popular momentum towards any change that threatens to upend the country’s rigid political caste system.

It is a legacy of British colonialism. The first handshakes were doled out at the dawn of colonial rule as the British co-opted local potentates and pretenders as colonial officials, allowing them to “eat” as they sold out their people.

Just before granting Kenya independence in 1963, the British executed another handshake, this time with the person they had scurrilously accused of leading the Mau Mau rebellion and jailed for seven years, Jomo Kenyatta.

Despite labelling him a “leader unto darkness and death”, they nonetheless cut a deal with him to smooth his way into power in return for a promise to let them keep the land they stole.

In the years following independence, the handshake became the go-to tactic for managing elite contestation for power as well as popular dissent. Its cynical practicality – as veteran journalist Charles Obbo put it: “every politician has a chance to eat. Every deal is possible.

No betrayal is unthinkable” – has paradoxically been responsible for preventing Kenya’s success as well as stopping the country from sliding into violence and anarchy. The handshake that ended the post-election violence in 2008 is a great example.

It stopped a conflagration sparked by a dispute over the presidential election that had taken more than 1,300 lives and displaced hundreds of others.

However, it also saddled the country with a regime whose first order of business was to institute a fake maize subsidy scheme that lined the pockets of politicians of all stripes and left a third of the nation starving.

One of the two protagonists in that particular episode was Raila Odinga, probably the most prolific practitioner of handshake politics.

A permanent opposition doyen who has never officially won a presidential election – he was a controversial losing candidate in five of the last six elections, some of which were stolen from him – he has nonetheless succeeded in executing a power-sharing agreement with each of Kenya’s last four presidents.

These agreements have always been claimed to be in the national interest, but in reality, have allowed him to leverage his popularity to access the trough. In 2000, he shook hands with former dictator Daniel Arap Moi in what many in the reform movement that was pushing for a new constitution saw as a betrayal. His 2008 handshake was with Moi’s successor, Mwai Kibaki.

A decade later, in 2018, in the wake of more violence following yet another disputed election, he was at it again with then-incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Two weeks ago came news of yet another handshake, this time in the shape of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Raila’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and current President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA). There are some interesting aspects to this particular deal.

First, Ruto, then deputy president, was the main casualty of the 2018 deal. At the time, it was widely perceived that Kenyatta was paving the way for the state to install Raila as his successor as president in return for quiet in his second term.

In the process, he was sacrificing Ruto’s ambitions, despite having promised to support him since they got together in 2013 (that’s yet another handshake tale – the two were indicted by the International Criminal Court for being on opposite sides of the 2007 violence). However, Kenyatta eventually failed to deliver his end of the bargain.

Secondly, just like Kenyatta before him, Ruto had in 2023 ruled out a handshake with Raila, who had, following the 2022 election, been leading weekly protests to push a rather dubious case for the election having yet again been stolen from him. Despite initially gaining little traction, these protests were supercharged by the cost-of-living crisis, but still Ruto held firm.

It was not until last year’s youth-led protests, which completely sidelined the political elites, that Ruto relented, bringing members of ODM into his expanded government whilst backing Raila’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. Following the failure of the latter effort, the MoU has now formalised the handshake.

Once again, the agreement is being framed as a response to national challenges rather than as a self-preservation measure. Odinga has claimed that a military coup was imminent if he didn’t sign on – hotly denied by the Ministry of Defence – as well as intimating that it was an opportunity to implement the report of the National Dialogue Committee.

That report, which was compiled in the aftermath of the Gen Z protests, itself illustrates just how politicians use handshakes to pad their pockets while undermining popular causes. It largely failed to engage with the issues advocated by the protesters and instead, like the National Accord and Building Bridges Initiative reports that followed the 2008 and 2018 handshakes respectively, it proposed a raft of new well-paid public positions for politicians – including the prime minister and leader of the opposition as a panacea to the country’s political problems.

It is unlikely that this handshake will buy Ruto the legitimacy he craves, however. Raila’s credibility as opposition leader has been eviscerated by these repeated accommodations, none doing more damage than the 2018 one. Today, he seems less like the political powerhouse of old and more like an old man desperate to cash in one last time. The real political power has shifted to a new generation that has loudly rejected the politics of handshakes, and they are gearing up for another fight.

Former DG of National Signals Bureau allegedly arrested by EOCO

0

The former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, has reportedly been arrested by officials from the Economic and Organised Office (EOCO) according to the Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

The alleged arrest took place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, shortly after Adu Boahene arrived in Ghana from London Heathrow at approximately 8:30 PM on a British Airways flight.

The disclosure was made by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Afenyo-Markin strongly condemned the arrest, describing it as an act of political persecution under the current administration, stating that such actions set a dangerous precedent and undermine the democratic principles of justice and fairness.

According to him, Mr Kwabena Adu Boahene, former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, arrived in Ghana from London Heathrow on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at approximately 8:30 PM on a British Airways flight. Upon arrival at the CIP, he went through immigration formalities.

While patiently waiting in the lounge for his baggage, an immigration officer informed him that there was an issue with his name that needed to be rectified at the main office in Terminal 3 Departures. He was also told that he needed to have a discussion with the Immigration Boss.

Mr Adu Boahene willingly followed the officer to the Immigration office at Terminal 3 Departures. After about 10 minutes, he was informed that he was on EOCO’s stop list and was wanted accordingly.

Deputy Director of EOCO, Raymond Archer, who was personally present, along with his team, then handcuffed Mr Adu Boahene at the departures area and escorted him through the Airport Departure Hall with approximately six officers. He was pushed into a white Nissan Navara pickup with registration number GN 8850-22, accompanied by fully armed men.

Thuggery, machoism belong to the olden days – Okoe Boye slams Richard Jakpa

Richard Jakpa (L) and Dr Bernard Okoe Boye (R) Richard Jakpa (L) and Dr Bernard Okoe Boye (R)

The former Minister of Health, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye, has criticised the approach by Richard Jakpa and his team from the National Security in their raids on former government officials in the country.

Addressing the incident, Dr Okoe Boye stated that the aggressive approach and thuggery employed by Jakpa and his team during their raids on former appointees are inconsistent with the country’s laws and established practices.

“This thuggery, machoism belong to the medieval era from 1666 to 1896,” he said during an interview on Metro TV on March 20, 2025.

Dr Okoe Boye further warned that the raids, along with the level of aggression exhibited by the security operatives, could destabilise the nation if the victims decide to retaliate.

He cautioned those close to Richard Jakpa and key figures of the governing NDC to call him to order regarding his conduct.

“Those who are near Jakpa should talk to him. This is how countries get destabilised. People can start harming themselves. Imagine if Governor Addison had an aggressive son who treated them as bandits or intruders. I mean, we don’t need this,” he continued.

The former lawmaker expressed the view that Jakpa and his team should instead redirect their focus towards apprehending individuals involved in smuggling opioids into the country.

“And like I said, if you are National Security, let’s see how we can channel our energy into making the Ghanaian better off. Some people are smuggling the opioid drug into our territories, messing up the lives of the youth. Jakpa can channel his energy and aggression into making sure that he stops it.”

He added, “There are people who are bringing things and avoiding taxes at the ports. Jakpa should see how he will deploy his strength to stop the damage. Recently, there was mention of fuel smuggling and all that; these are places where we can make savings and save some lives.”

His comments follow a raid at the residence of former Bank of Governor Dr Ernest Addison.

Dr Addison was at home in the early hours of Wednesday, March 19, when the heavily armed men, some in balaclavas, wielding AK-47 semi-automatic rifles, showed up to carry out a search.

Reports indicate that members of the team from National Security immediately disabled the CCTV system at the property.

Ato Forson meets with banks Ato Forson meets with banks

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured that the government will fulfill debt obligations in the debt restructuring programme.

According to the minister, the government has built sufficient financial buffers to meet all obligations under the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP) this year.

At a high-level meeting with more than 22 bank Managing Directors on March 20, 2025, he reaffirmed his commitment to fiscal responsibility and restoring confidence in the financial sector.

“We do not intend to default,” he declared.

“All outstanding holdouts have been paid, and we have put in place the necessary buffers to ensure that every single DDEP obligation for this year will be met,” he wrote on his X page.

Beyond ensuring timely DDEP payments, the government is also taking deliberate steps to reduce reliance on the Treasury bill market.

“By improving coordination between fiscal and monetary policies, we aim to stabilize interest rates and ease liquidity pressures on the banking sector,” he said.

These actions are part of a broader strategy to ensure economic resilience and prevent a repeat of the financial instability of 2022.

He further assured the banking executives that “We have learned from the past. We are not going to be reckless. We have built the necessary buffers to meet our obligations, and we will work with you to ensure a stable and prosperous economy.”

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah sworn in as Namibia’s first female president

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is Namibia's first female president Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is Namibia’s first female president

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has been sworn in as Namibia’s first woman president, after winning elections last year that extended the governing party’s 35-year grip on power.

Nandi-Ndaitwah, 72, became one of the few women leaders on the African continent, following a ceremony on Friday attended by heads of state from several African countries including Angola, South Africa and Tanzania.

Outgoing President Nangolo Mbumba, 83, handed power to Nandi-Ndaitwah at a ceremony that coincided with the 35th anniversary of Namibia’s independence and was moved from the Independence Stadium to State House because of rare heavy rains.

Loud applause and ululations erupted as NNN, as Nandi-Ndaitwah is popularly known, took her oath of office.

In her inaugural speech, Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged her historic election, but also said that Namibians elected her for her competence and merit.

She added that while the country has seen progress since independence, “there’s a lot that needs to be done.”

Previously in the post of vice president for a year, she is a veteran of the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) that led the sparsely populated and uranium-rich country to independence from apartheid South Africa in 1990.

Nandi-Ndaitwah secured 58 percent of the vote in the chaotic November elections, which were extended several times after logistical failures led to major delays.

Namibia is witnessing one of its “foremost daughters breaking through the glass ceiling”, outgoing leader Mbumba said. “It has been a long time coming.”

She appealed for unity after political divisions surfaced during the elections, which the IPC sought to annul in a failed court action.

“We can make our politics during the campaign and so on but once it’s over, we must build Namibia together,” she said.

African Couple Wearing African Traditional Clothes: A Celebration of Heritage

0

In the rich tapestry of African cultures, clothing plays a pivotal role in reflecting the identity, heritage, and values of different ethnic groups. African couples, especially during weddings, celebrations, and other significant events, often showcase their cultural pride by donning traditional African attire. These garments, which vary widely from region to region, symbolize unity, history, and the strength of African traditions.

African couples’ attire typically includes beautifully handcrafted fabrics, such as kente, ankara, or dashiki, each with distinct meanings. The vibrant colors and patterns often carry deep symbolism, reflecting aspects of the wearer’s heritage or community. For instance, the kente cloth, primarily from the Akan people of Ghana, is known for its intricate, multicolored design that conveys messages of wisdom, strength, and unity. Similarly, ankara, a brightly patterned cotton fabric from West Africa, is worn by both men and women during various occasions, from casual gatherings to elaborate ceremonies.

The male counterpart of an African couple often wears a grand boubou or agbada. The boubou, with its flowing, wide sleeves, is typically worn in countries like Senegal and Mali. On the other hand, the agbada, worn in Nigeria, is a voluminous robe adorned with delicate embroidery that speaks to the wearer’s social status and personality. For the women, the attire may consist of a matching headwrap, a brightly colored dress, or a fitted blouse paired with a skirt or a sarong.

African couple outfits are not merely about fashion but serve as an expression of pride and unity. These garments are often passed down through generations, ensuring the continuity of cultural legacy. Wearing African clothes together allows couples to make a powerful statement of belonging and togetherness, not only as individuals but as a representation of their shared African heritage.

In a world where globalization has sometimes led to a dilution of cultural practices, African traditional clothing remains a strong symbol of identity, showing that African couples continue to embrace and celebrate their roots.

Defence Ministry faces GHS3.7bn debt crisis, food suppliers threaten to halt services

0

The Defence Ministry is facing a debt issue with food suppliers, who are threatening to stop services due to the government’s unpaid debt of GHS275 million, accumulated over 17 months.

The Ministry’s total indebtedness stands at GHS3.7 billion for various expenses, including equipment supply and repair, as well as the provision of machinery.

The Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, announced that the Finance Ministry is taking steps to clear the arrears during a debate on the 2025 Budget.

He said this in Parliament in Accra on Friday March 21, 2025.

“It must be placed on record that the outstanding indebtedness in terms of claims is almost GHS3,700,000,000 and Mr. Speaker, this includes indebtedness to food suppliers, supply and repair of equipment, provision of machinery, and equipment.

“Mr. Speaker, we all know soldiers should not and must not march on empty stomachs. However, Mr. Speaker, food suppliers have even threatened to hold supplies to the Ghana Armed Forces. This is because government’s indebtedness to them dates back from August 2023 up to December, and that is like 17 months.

“This indebtedness is GHS275,000,000 and over. I’m glad to report that with prudence and the unfolding visible competent management of the fiscal space, the Minister for Finance has promised to be current on current claims as he takes steps to creatively settle the huge arrears,” Dr Boamah stated.

Late Gertrude Quashigah’s family demands apology, retraction from Adwoa Safo

0

In a strongly worded statement, the family urged Adwoa Safo to desist from tarnishing Madam Quashigah’s legacy following her recent allegations of mismanagement during the deceased’s tenure.

The statement, signed by Isaac Aidoo, Esq., expressed deep disappointment over what the family described as “unfounded and unfortunate accusations.”

“Our mother carried out her responsibilities with the highest levels of integrity, dedication, and selflessness,” the statement read.

The family highlighted the expansion of the programme under Madam Quashigah’s leadership, which significantly improved the nutrition and welfare of thousands of Ghanaian schoolchildren.

They further noted that the allegations were particularly painful given that she is no longer alive to defend herself, adding that the remarks have caused distress to both the family and those who respected her contributions to national development.

Expressing further disappointment, the family referenced the historical relationship between the Quashigah and Safo families, emphasizing their shared bonds of mutual respect and public service through their respective fathers—Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd.) and Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

The family has, therefore, called on Adwoa Safo to issue an “unqualified apology” and refrain from making further statements that tarnish Madam Quashigah’s legacy.

Relief for Weta rice farmers as choked drains set for dredging

0

By Michael Foli Jackidy

Weta (V/R), Mar. 21, GNA – Rice farmers in the Weta enclave can now breathe a sigh of relief as dredging works are set to begin on the choked drainage system, which has long hampered farming activities in the area.

A long-reach excavator has been made available to clear the blocked drains ahead of the farming season, ensuring improved water flow and irrigation for rice fields.

The move comes after extensive engagements between the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, and National Security, leading to the equipment’s release.

Speaking to GNA, Mr Eric Edem Agbana, Member of Parliament (MP) for Ketu North, confirmed that his office covered the full cost of fueling and transporting the excavator to Avalavi, where dredging work is expected to commence.

He emphasised that clearing the choked drainage system is a critical step in boosting rice production, preventing flooding, and ensuring efficient water management in the Weta area.

He expressed profound gratitude to the Regional DRIP (District Roads Improvements Programme) Coordinator, Mr Elliot Wogbe, for playing a key role in securing the intervention.

The dredging exercise is expected to significantly improve water supply to rice fields, reducing the risk of crop loss due to stagnant water and poor drainage.

Farmers in Weta, a key rice-producing hub in the Volta Region, have long struggled with waterlogging and flooding, which affect yield and threaten livelihoods.

With this intervention, local rice farmers can look forward to a more productive planting season, improved harvests, and better economic conditions for their households and communities.

Stakeholders in the agricultural sector have welcomed the initiative, calling for long-term solutions to enhance irrigation infrastructure in the region and boost rice production to meet national demand.

Meanwhile, the Weta Irrigation Scheme Project, which is set to be funded by the World Bank, is expected to commence soon.

The project aims to enhance irrigation infrastructure, improve water management for rice farming, and boost agricultural productivity in the region.

MTN MoMo Not Licensed For Cross Border Transactions To Nigeria – BoG

0

Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, BoG Governor

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has explained that MobileMoney Limited, the operator of MTN MoMo, has not been licensed to facilitate cross-border transactions with MTN Nigeria.

Clarifying ongoing developments in the fintech space, the BoG explained that it had granted Brij Fintech Ghana, a licensed Payment Service Provider (PSP), approval to pilot BrijX—a B2B Currency Swap Platform—under its regulatory sandbox programme.

The Bank of Ghana said in a release that while MTN MoMo is not licensed for cross-border transactions, the BrijX pilot represents a regulated initiative aimed at transforming digital payments within the region.

“Bank of Ghana has taken note of media publications suggesting that MTN Ghana has been licensed to conduct cross-border transactions with MTN in Nigeria. The Bank hereby states that MobileMoney Limited, providers of MoMo from MTN, has not been licensed or authorised to conduct cross-border transactions”, the release stated.

BrijX is designed to function as a digital marketplace, enabling direct currency swaps between the Ghanaian Cedi and the Nigerian Naira without requiring forex transactions or physical fund transfers across borders.

The platform collaborates with banks, mobile money operators, and licensed PSPs to facilitate seamless currency exchanges.

The BoG stressed that the BrijX pilot, which commenced live testing in February 2025, involves MTN MoMo customers and will soon expand to G-Money users.

However, the pilot operates under strict regulatory controls, including, transaction limits, restrictions on the number of participating customers, a defined testing period and full compliance with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) regulations

The BoG said it will at the conclusion of the pilot, assess the results to determine whether the BrijX model aligns with Ghana’s financial regulatory framework and potential future policies.
