All must help in safeguarding Ghana’s water resources - Deputy minister

Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Deputy Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Deputy Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources

Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Deputy Minister of Works, Housing, and Water Resources, has called on all Ghanaians to join the government and stakeholders in safeguarding Ghana’s water resources.

She said the conservation of water resources was not the responsibility of just a few people but of all citizens, as water is a common resource.

Madam Tetteh-Agbotui made these remarks at the 2025 World Water Day Celebration in Accra, organized by the Ministry in collaboration with Ghana Water Limited and the Water Resources Commission.

The event, held under the theme “Water Conservation: Let’s Make It Our Way of Life,” brought together stakeholders in the water sector to address issues related to water conservation.

Madam Tetteh-Agbotui said this year’s theme should serve as a wake-up call and an inspiration for all to intensify their commitment and awareness in reversing the deterioration of the country’s water bodies.

“Ghana’s policy response to conserving and safeguarding our water resources for everyone and every sector of the economy is that of shared responsibility.”

“We should always bear in mind that each of us has a crucial role to play in saving our water bodies. Just like the popular saying, ‘A water source is made up of millions of tiny drops.’ Let us endeavor to make our efforts count,” she added.

Adam Mutawakilu, Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, called for investments in innovative solutions, equitable distribution systems, and sustainable infrastructure to guarantee that every Ghanaian, regardless of their location or economic status, has access to clean and safe water.

“As we mark World Water Day 2025, let us reaffirm our commitment to water conservation and equitable access, ensuring that no one is left behind in our pursuit of a secure future,” he said.

Mutawakilu noted that they were working to increase their capacity by acquiring new water treatment plants and upgrading existing facilities. They are also investing in modern technologies such as smart meters, leak detection, and pipeline rehabilitation to reduce water loss and improve efficiency.

Additionally, he said they were collaborating with regulatory bodies and government agencies to enforce strict laws against illegal mining and industrial waste disposal into water bodies.

Dr. Bob Alfa, Acting Executive Secretary of the Water Resources Commission, emphasized that the public needed to understand that water is not an infinite resource, stating that the future of Ghana’s water resources depends on the actions taken collectively.

“Our challenge is not only to conserve the remaining water resources but also to restore polluted water bodies to ensure equitable access for all,” he added.

Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku refused to wear the captain’s armband twice during Ghana’s resounding win over Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025.

The Fenerbahce defender was first offered the armband when substantive captain Jordan Ayew was subbed off in the second half, but he declined.

Ayew then gave the armband to Thomas Partey, who offered it back to Djiku, but the latter insisted that Partey wear it. The Arsenal man subsequently spoke to the bench before putting it on.

As the game wore on, Partey was also substituted. On his way out, he attempted to hand the armband over to Djiku, who declined once again and instead passed it to Mohammed Kudus, who wore it for the rest of the match.

According to the new captaincy structure, Jordan Ayew is the main skipper, with Djiku serving as deputy.

However, the incident has raised concerns about whether Djiku has accepted the role, especially after Partey—who previously served as deputy to Andre Ayew—refused to take on the deputy role in the new structure.

Despite the tense captaincy situation, the team got the job done, beating Chad 5-0 to go top of the table. The emphatic win also ended their six-game winless run.

It is time to take a critical look at how we plan our markets – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has stressed the urgent need to take a critical look at how the country’s markets are planned.

“It is time for Ghana to start rethinking how we plan our markets to prevent the recurrence of fires,” he stated during a visit to the devastating fire disaster scene at Adum, the central business district of Kumasi.

He described the situation as very sad, considering the extent of damage caused by the fire, which started early in the morning on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Three major storey-buildings, which contained many stores, along with hundreds of container shops, stalls, and table-top shops, with merchandise worth millions of Ghana cedis, were destroyed in the devastating fire that occurred between Hello FM and the Kumasi Central Market.

No casualties were recorded, but two people, including a fire officer, were reported injured in the incident.

The lack of access roads to the enclave between Hello FM and the Kumasi Central Market impeded efforts by firefighters to control the blaze in time.

President John Dramani Mahama thanked officers of the Ghana National Fire Service for their prompt response, which helped contain the fire from spreading beyond the enclave.

According to him, information he received from fire officers indicated that the lack of access contributed to the inability of fire tenders to put out the fire in time.

He extended sympathies to the affected traders and said he had asked NADMO, the Regional Coordinating Council, and other relief agencies to offer support to the affected traders while efforts were made to rebuild the market.

Five before High Court for stealing fuel, burning fuel tanker

0

Five persons have been put before an Accra High Court for allegedly stealing fuel worth GH¢834,300 belonging to A-Bek Company Limited.

Four of the accused persons—Bashiru Mohammed, Isaac Donkor (both drivers), Abdellah Dauda (a driver’s mate), and Yaw Gerald (a transporter and businessman)—were present in court.

The court, presided over by Justice Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Alhaji Iddrisu, the first accused person, who is also a driver, for failing to attend court.

Despite the presence of counsel for Iddrisu, the court proceeded to issue the bench warrant.

Two of their accomplices, identified only as “One Alhaji” and Kofi Adu, are said to be at large.

The accused persons, except Yaw Gerald, allegedly met in Kasse, near Ahodwo in the Ashanti Region, and conspired to sell diesel to Gerald instead of delivering it to the BOST Depot at Buipe.

Five things we learnt from Ghana’s big win over Chad

The Black Stars recorded a thumping victory over Chad to go top of Group I of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

First-half goals from Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and Jordan Ayew before second-half strikes from Mohammed Salisu and Ernest Nuamah ensured the Black Stars return to winning ways.

GhanaSoccernet picked five key points in the victory over Chad.

Benjamin Asare impresses on Ghana debut

Despite being quiet for most of the game, the Hearts of Oak goalkeeper did enough to convince Otto Addo and his technical team to a starting role against Chad. On a few occasions, the 32-year-old was called to action but was equal to the start. Asare could get the nod over Lawrence Ati Zigi and Jojo Wollacot in the next game against Madagascar.

Partey shines on 50th appearance

Thomas Partey, for the first time in a while, produced an Arsenal-esque performance for the Black Stars, controlling and commanding the heart of midfield. He anchored the department as Mohammed Kudus and Jordan Ayew took charge of offensive duties. It was a performance befitting his silver jubilee with the Black Stars.

Nuamah proving important for Black Stars

A lot of noise has been over his Right to Dream Academy senior Mohammed Kudus, but the man doing the most has been the Olympique Lyonnais star. Nuamah scored and delivered an assist in the 5-0 win. It was his second goal of the qualifying run after impressing in matches against Mali and the Central African Republic.

Otto Addo goes offensive

For once, it was not the all-possession-based lackluster display and this was spotted right from the onset after deciding to start five attacking-minded players. Antoine Semenyo, Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, Inaki Williams, and Ernest Nuamah were handed a start role, making life difficult for Chad.

Black Stars play with confidence

Unlike the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, the Black Stars looked confident and barely stepped a foot wrong at the Accra Sports Stadium. Having struggled in games against Niger and Sudan, it was difficult to tell which Ghana team will show up. However, it was a swashbuckling display from the team against Chad.

Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chief Executive Officer of McDan Group of Companies, has urged Ghanaian businesses to embrace innovation and creativity to establish themselves as global leaders in sales and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at the launch of the National Sales Leaders Conference (NSLC) 2025 in Accra, Dr. McKorley emphasized the need for businesses to adapt to an increasingly competitive environment by leveraging technology, data, and customer-centric strategies.

“Every successful business is built on the ability to understand market needs, create solutions, and consistently deliver value,” he said.

“If we are to create jobs and build strong businesses, we must equip our sales professionals with the tools, skills, and strategies to thrive in this new era.”

Dr. McKorley noted that sales had evolved beyond mere transactions to include customer engagement and long-term relationship-building.

“It is not just about selling; it is about creating value that attracts and retains customers,” he stated, adding that investing in sales innovation would not only boost profits but also generate more job opportunities for the youth.

The NSLC, scheduled for August 20–22 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), is themed: “Redefining Sales Excellence for Today’s Dynamic Market.”

The conference aims to equip businesses, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders with the insights, strategies, and networks required to thrive in an evolving market.

Michael Abbiw, Convenor of NSLC 2025, said the event was expected to attract 2,500 attendees from diverse industries.

“Last year, we hosted 39 speakers; this year, we are bringing 52, ensuring even richer conversations and insights,” he said.

“Our focus is on creating meaningful engagements—providing opportunities for direct connections with high-value prospects, sparking collaborations, and building partnerships.”

Mr. Abbiw, also the President-Elect of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG), reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to raising standards in marketing and sales excellence.

He indicated that the conference would explore key topics, including “The Role of Ethics and Trust in Modern Sales Practices.”

“We will dissect how ethical selling is a competitive advantage. In a world where trust is hard to earn and easy to lose, businesses that lead with integrity will be the ones that stand the test of time.”

Dr. Ernest Ofori Sarpong, Chief Executive Officer of Special Group of Companies, underscored the importance of strong sales teams in business growth.

“Success in business is not about the product alone but about the networks we build, the trust we cultivate, and the strategic partnerships we form,” he said.

“For businesses to thrive in this new era, sales must be embedded at every level of the organization. Sales must be seen not as a department but as the very pulse of the company.”

Idorenyen Enang, President and Chair of the Council of the National Institute of Marketing, Nigeria, described NSLC 2025 as a significant platform to reshape sales and marketing approaches in the region.

“This is not just about learning from experts; it’s about aligning our strategies with the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” he noted.

The National Sales Leaders Conference has positioned itself as a leading event for thought leadership in sales and marketing.

This year’s edition is expected to drive conversations on best practices, industry trends, and the future of sales in Ghana and beyond.

NPP MPs uneasy about the viability of Mahama’s 2025 budget – Kumbungu MP

0

Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Hamza Adam Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Hamza Adam

The Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Hamza Adam, has claimed that opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) members of the House are “jittery and full of fear” due to the strength of the 2025 budget statement presented by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

During parliamentary commentaries on the budget read by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on March 11, 2025, the NDC MP asserted that the budget’s robustness, drawn from the party’s manifesto, has unsettled the NPP.

“Our colleagues opposite are jittery and full of fear because of the robustness of the budget that has been provided. Mr. Speaker, what they do not know is that the budget was teased out from the People’s Manifesto, a manifesto developed by the people who are supposed to be the beneficiaries of the budget,” he stated.

“They know that what is contained in the NDC’s manifesto, by the time we finish implementing the promises in the NDC manifesto, the NPP would have collapsed. So, because of that, they are afraid,” he said.

The Kumbungu MP described the 2025 budget as a generational budget that offers hope across all sectors of society.

“The budget that has been presented stands out from all angles. It is a generational budget because it is a budget that gives hope to men, a budget that gives hope to women, a budget that gives hope to young girls, a budget that gives hope to businessmen, a budget that gives hope to bankers, and everybody,” he said.

Presented by President John Dramani Mahama’s administration, which took office in January 2025 following the NDC’s victory in the December 2024 elections, the 2025 budget outlines the government’s economic policies and expenditure projections for the year.

It includes measures like scrapping the E-levy, betting tax, and COVID-19 levy—promises from the NDC’s 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.

NDC leaders have praised the budget as a tool to “reset” Ghana’s economy, while the NPP has criticised it, with some members claiming that it fails to build on the economic foundation left by the Akufo-Addo government, which recorded a 5.7% GDP growth in 2024, per the Ghana Statistical Service.

The NPP also argues that the budget’s projected GDP growth rate of 4.0% paints a gloomy picture for the country.

How tax measures in 2025 budget can foster growth – Report

0

Andrew Akoto, Country Managing Partner, KPMG in Ghana Andrew Akoto, Country Managing Partner, KPMG in Ghana

A KPMG-UNDP post-budget report has highlighted how key tax reforms in 2025 can affect growth and productivity in the economy.

According to the budget highlights, tax reforms in the 2025 budget including the betting tax, E-Levy and the Growth and Sustainability Levy are recipes for economic development.

The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, announced the adjustment of the personal income tax-free threshold of resident individuals from GH¢490 to approximately GH¢539.

KPMG said: “Adjusting the tax-free threshold of the personal income tax band to reflect the minimum wage increase aligns with the principle of progressive taxation. This provides relief to low-income earners and indirectly increases their disposable income.”

On the Growth and Sustainability Levy the government proposed to increase the rate from 1% to 3% on gross production of mining companies to benefit from the sustained increase in global gold prices.

However, KPMG said: “The proposed GSL adjustment is to enable the government to have a greater share in the windfall revenues accruing to players in the industry.

“Although this is expected to bring in additional revenue to the Government, some of the players in the industry have stability clauses in their development agreements that protect them from adverse tax changes. To maximize the revenue potential from this proposal, there should be extensive stakeholder engagement,” it added.

Also, the proposal to extend the GSL and SIL yet again, potentially undermines the concept of certainty of tax policy.

To bring more certainty to tax policy, it will be imperative to consider more permanent proposals. This will allow taxpayers to plan their tax affairs over the long term.

They added that abolishing the Emissions levy could increase the usage of electric vehicles in the country.

“Increasing citizen’s preference for electric vehicles requires more than just making them affordable.

“Other factors, such as charging stations, readily available skilled labour for maintenance, and concessionary loans to finance purchases, must also be explored Combining these efforts could accelerate the transition to electric vehicles,” KPMG’s report noted.

I was motivated to score this international break – Antoine Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo, Footballer Antoine Semenyo, Footballer

Antoine Semenyo says he was eager to find the back of the net during this international break after going two years without a goal for Ghana.

The forward last scored for the Black Stars in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola.

However, he ended that drought in style by opening the scoring in Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 win over Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.

“I feel like every player has a period when they don’t score. Every game is an opportunity to try and get a goal; if I don’t, I focus on the next game,” he said after the game.

“I felt like, during this international break, I needed to get a goal. I’m not going to say there is any pressure.”

His early strike set the tone for a dominant Black Stars performance. Otto Addo’s men needed a win to move to the top of Group I in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, and they wasted no time, scoring in just the second minute.

Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohammed Salisu, and Ernest Nuamah also found the net as Ghana sealed a comfortable victory.

The Black Stars now shift focus to Monday’s crucial game against Madagascar in Morocco.

Foreman won his first world heavyweight championship in 1973 then did it again in 1994 when he was 45. He retired from the sport in 1997.

His family said in a post on Instagram on Friday night: “Our hearts are broken.

MUSIGA launches initiative to support ailing musicians

President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has unveiled an initiative designed to provide free medical care and support to ailing musicians across the country.

This initiative, titled Musicians Help Musicians, is aimed at addressing the cases of musicians grappling with serious health challenges but lacking the financial resources to access proper treatment.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, President of MUSIGA Bessa Simons disclosed that the initiative was inspired by MUSIGA frequently receiving distress calls about musicians stranded in hospitals due to their inability to settle medical bills.

“There have been countless instances where we’ve received calls about musicians being detained in hospitals because they can’t afford their medical expenses. This initiative is our way of ensuring such situations become a thing of the past. With Musicians Help Musicians, we aim to make healthcare readily accessible and free for musicians who need it most,” he stated.

Explaining how the project will operate, Simons revealed a partnership with Care4Aged International, a Denmark-based medical firm, to provide professional training for selected Ghanaian volunteers who will serve as caregivers for musicians in need.

“This year, in collaboration with the Denmark-based medical firm, we are launching Musicians Help Musicians. As part of this initiative, doctors and nurses from Denmark will come to Ghana to train volunteers who have already signed up to become caregivers for musicians in need.

“These caregivers will be equipped to assist bedridden musicians, support those with mobility challenges, and provide essential aids such as walking sticks or other support devices,” he said.

He added that some of the trained volunteers will have the opportunity to travel to Denmark for hands-on experience before returning to Ghana to deliver high-quality care.

Simons also noted that the Danish medical partners will assess the Gyae Su Herbal Centre, a local medical facility, to identify any specific medical equipment needs.

“If, for example, the centre requires a dialysis machine, they will help provide it. The goal is to ensure that when musicians visit the facility, they can access all necessary healthcare services without worrying about the cost,” he explained.

Anas never contacted Obinim – Tiger Eye PI fires back

Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas Investigative Journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas

Investigative firm Tiger Eye PI has strongly dismissed claims made by Bishop Daniel Obinim, leader of the International God’s Way Church regarding journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

In a press release dated March 21, 2025, the organization described Obinim’s allegations as completely false and misleading.

According to Obinim, Anas allegedly reached out to persuade him to join a lawsuit against politician Kennedy Agyapong. However, Tiger Eye PI wasted no time in setting the record straight.

“Tiger Eye PI categorically refutes these claims and urges the general public to disregard them. The allegations are entirely false and, at best, a fabrication,” the statement asserted.

The investigative firm further emphasized that Anas, a seasoned legal professional, has no need for Obinim’s involvement in any legal matters.

“As a lawyer with years of experience, Anas Aremeyaw Anas is fully aware of the legal remedies available to him. He does not require or seek the support of Bishop Obinim to pursue legal redress when necessary.

Moreover, Anas has no knowledge of Mr. Obinim’s contact details or residential address, making any alleged interaction between them not only implausible but impossible.”

Beyond refuting the claims, Tiger Eye PI took the opportunity to thank Ghanaians for their continued support of Anas and his fight for truth and justice.

“Tiger Eye PI deeply appreciates the unwavering support from Ghanaians both at home and abroad. Anas remains committed to the pursuit of justice and truth, and he is thankful for the continued solidarity of the public.”

Tamale Water Crisis: Ghanasco Students Forced To Use Contaminated Water

0

Students at Ghana Senior High School (Ghanasco) in Tamale have been compelled to depend on dam water for survival due to the lack of potable water in the school.

A visit to the Ghanasco dam by DGN revealed students, after school, trooping to the dam to fetch the contaminated water for consumption.

The Ghanasco dam, which serves various schools within the Kukuo area, has fecal matter scattered around it, with animals drinking from the same dam used by humans. This could lead to typhoid and diarrhea infections.

According to the students, the dam water is the only source of water available to the school, which they use for bathing, and washing their clothes as well as drinking.

“Even though the dam water is not clean, it is the only source of water we can access for drinking, washing, bathing, and other activities,” they said.

The students lamented the situation, adding that spending time searching for potable water before and after classes greatly affects their academic performance.

They called on the government and other institutions to provide them with a reliable source of potable water to enhance teaching and learning at the school.

Efforts to reach the management of Ghana Senior High School for comment on the situation proved futile.

The Tamale metropolis has been hit by a severe water crisis that has significantly disrupted economic activities, forcing residents to purchase water from tanker contractors.

This situation has severely impacted businesses, restaurants, schools, hospitals, and homes, among others.

Residents of Tamale and its surrounding areas have threatened to embark on a demonstration against the management of the Ghana Water Company Ltd (GWCL) due to the worsening water crisis in the region.

Meanwhile, Northern Regional Minister, Adolf Ali John, was compelled to convene an emergency meeting with GWCL management to investigate the cause of the water shortage in Tamale.

According to the Regional Minister, the water crisis poses security threats and urged GWCL management to find urgent solutions to the problem.

Ing. Albert Nyeteng, the Regional Production Manager of GWCL, indicated that the current water demand in Tamale is 90,000 m³, while production levels are only between 35,000 m³ and 38,000 m³, which has necessitated the implementation of water rationing in Tamale and its environs.

He stated that a long-term solution to the water crisis lies in the construction of the Yapei Water project.

The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, to which Ghana is a signatory, calls for the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Private sector wants 24-hour economy policy tied to PPA framework

0

As Ghana continues to navigate its path toward economic recovery and growth, the private sector is advocating for the implementation of the 24-hour economy policy to be aligned with the country’s industrial policy and the regulatory framework established by the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

This will prevent contracts from being awarded solely to government favourites or politically connected companies and create fair competition among businesses to help
boost productivity and create more jobs.

At the KPMG Post-Budget Event, the president of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Dr Humphrey Ayim-Darke, called for a national effort to implement a 24-hour economy in Ghana.

Forum

Speaking during a panel discussion at the KPMG Post Budget Forum in Accra on Thursday, Dr Humphrey Ayim-Darke, stressed the need for the 24-hour economy policy to be part of a comprehensive strategy that supports industrial growth, rather than being implemented as a standalone initiative.

The event, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ghana, on the theme: “Resetting the Economy for the Ghana we want”, brought together industry players, policymakers, international organisations, civil society and academia to discuss the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy Statement of the government presented to Parliament last Tuesday and its impact on the business community.

Measuring success

He cited the One District, One Factory (1D1F) policy as a lesson in how isolated initiatives may fall short of their full potential.

“We pray for a conscious effort to tailor the 24-hour economy to Ghana’s industrial policy. It should not be isolated like the 1D1F. As the private sector, we are determined to support the government through this process and execute a clear agenda.

Let the 24-hour economy be tied to the PPA conditions we have set so that we can use public funds through social interventions to transform the industrial sector,” Dr Ayim-Darke said.

He added that the industrial transformation necessary to drive Ghana’s recovery and long-term growth must be measured by tangible outcomes.

“The success of industrial transformation would be measured by tangible outcomes such as the number of factories built under government initiatives,” he added.

The Country Managing Partner for KPMG Ghana, Andy Akoto, said as the country steers its economic future, policy-making and evidenced-based reforms will be key to balancing revenue needs with sustainable inclusive development.

He added that KPMG was ready to support the government in offering its expertise and network to design policies, strengthen systems and forge partnerships that will deliver economic prosperity for the people of Ghana.

In a speech read on her behalf, the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP Ghana, Fati Attahiru, said the optimism expressed by business leaders about Ghana’s economic recovery was encouraging.

“However, that also comes with high expectations for bold, pragmatic policy actions that will lead to sustainable and inclusive economic transformation,” she said.

We are dismayed by her actions – NPP elder on Adwoa Safo’s conduct

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Council of Elders, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, has strongly criticized former Dome/Kwabenya MP, Adwoa Safo, over her public remarks against party leaders.

Speaking on the growing tensions within the Dome/Kwabenya constituency, he made it clear that her actions were unacceptable and that she would face disciplinary action.

“She has completely gone out of order, and the General Secretary has stated that she will be referred to the disciplinary committee,” he said.

Mr. Owusu Agyemang further insisted that Adwoa Safo must refrain from making public statements about the party.

“She must cease all public statements regarding the party. She has broken the rules, and this is unacceptable,” he stated.

He emphasized that the party would take necessary steps to address the situation, expressing disappointment in her conduct given her past senior roles.

“And as a party, we would apply the necessary regulations and then see what we can do, but for the time being, we are dismayed by her actions, especially considering her past senior roles in government and our party,” he added.

Reiterating the party’s stance, he urged her to immediately halt media engagements and public commentary.

“So Adwoa is being asked to stop all the utterances, all the interviews, and whatever she is doing. It is a human institution, she’s gone wrong, and we are telling her to cease whatever she is doing with these utterances,” he declared.

While calling for restraint, he hinted that the party leadership would determine the next course of action depending on how she responds to their directive.

“We will see how we will do going forward, and I hope she will adhere to what we have said, the General Secretary has said in his release,” he concluded.

Why Adwoa Safo relocated her children abroad

0

Former MP for Dome Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo (seated) Former MP for Dome Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo (seated)

While it was not her desire to have her children live abroad while she remains in Ghana, circumstances left her with no other choice than to live with such a difficult situation.

This decision stemmed from repeated calls from Sarah Adwoa Safo’s children’s school principal, alerting her about unknown drivers attempting to pick up her children from school.

The former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and former Minister of Gender said events like the one above compelled her to relocate her children abroad several years ago.

She explained that her children’s safety was at risk due to her exposure as a public figure in politics.

She recounted instances where the school principal would call to confirm whether she had sent drivers to pick up her children.

In an interview with Okay FM, she stated that, “It wasn’t deliberate that I took my children abroad. My children are abroad because of sacrifices I made for the party, while I live here. During the chaos of the 2012 Election, which led us to court, I was constantly accompanying Nana Akufo-Addo to court proceedings.

“… One day, I received a call from my children’s school principal informing me that someone claiming to be a driver had come to pick them up. I told him I didn’t know the person and instructed him not to release my children. That was the second time such an incident had occurred,” the former MP said.

Reflecting on these dangers, she said she realised they were all politically exposed. For the sake of her children’s safety, she decided to relocate them abroad to avoid waking up to tragic news someday.

“After reflecting on these dangers, I realized that both their father and I were politically exposed. For the sake of the children, it was in their best interest to relocate abroad, ensuring we wouldn’t wake up to tragic news one day. Politics is a dirty game, and that’s why my children now live abroad while I remain here,” Adwoa Safo remarked in the interview with Kwame Nkrumah Tikese.

0

As the Black Stars gear up for their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifying match today, Guide Sports Xtra host Ben Osei Bonsu (BOB) and sports analyst, Stephen Kwaku Asare (V-Pawa) discussed preparations so far.

During the discussion, V Pawa delved into the team’s preparations and the key factors that could determine their performance.

“We must go through the pain of watching the AFCON (in Morocco) on TV because our beloved Black Stars will not be there,” said V Pawa, referring to Ghana’s failure to qualify for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. “We must ensure that we don’t add salt to injury by not qualifying for the World Cup,” he added.

He highlighted the involvement of the current government’s administration, including the Sports Minister, in ensuring the team is well-supported, noting the importance of adding a psychologist to the technical team to help address any lingering psychological issues that may have affected the team’s previous performances.

However, V Pawa emphasized the need for the players to show maturity and unity, rallying behind the team’s captain and focusing on the national agenda.

“As the team prepares for their first match in Accra, the spotlight will be on the technical team’s decisions, particularly in the goalkeeping department and the deployment of key players like Antoine Semenyo and Inaki Williams. The experts believe the coach’s ability to adapt and get the best out of these players will be crucial to the team’s success,” he added.

Ahead of the pre-match conference, fans and analysts alike will be eager to hear the team’s strategies and the players’ mindset as they aim to secure a spot in the World Cup. The Black Stars’ performance in these crucial qualifiers will undoubtedly be a defining moment in their quest to return to the global stage.

‘We will do everything to stay top of Group I’ – Otto Addo

0

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has shifted focus to Ghana’s crucial clash against Madagascar after his team’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Goals from Inaki Williams, Jordan Ayew, Mohamed Salifu, and Ernest Nuamah secured all three points for the Black Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium, propelling them to the top of Group I with 12 points — two ahead of second-placed Madagascar, whom they face on Monday, March 24, in Morocco.

Speaking after the game, Otto Addo stressed the importance of maintaining their position at the top of the table.

“It’s always easier when you’re on top. We want to stay there. We will try to do everything to beat Madagascar on Monday to keep the top spot,” he noted.

He also acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming fixture but emphasised the need to stay focused.

“There’s nothing we can do [about the fixture schedule]; we have to accept it. It will be tough; they [Madagascar] have a really good team,” he said.

Addo further highlighted the urgency of preparations ahead of the game.

“The preparations start now, and it’s good that we won so we can focus on Madagascar,” he added.

A win in that match would further solidify the Black Stars’ place at the top and move them closer to securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s first England game: Five talking points from Wembley win

0

Before the game Tuchel created plenty of headlines when he said England looked like they had played with fear at Euro 2024 under his predecessor Gareth Southgate.

He also suggested he wanted them to play Premier League-style physical football.

Known for his tactical flexibility, nobody was quite certain what formation Tuchel would opt for – but he sent England out in a 4-2-3-1.

While Tuchel’s teams are normally known for their intensity and pressing, it was hard for England to show either against a team who set up as defensively as Albania, especially in the first half.

And the German is also still in the early stages of his reign – having only met his players four days ago for the first time since officially taking over in January.

“Thomas Tuchel’s had the squad for three days – you can’t expect to see a different England team,” said former Three Lions midfielder Leon Osman on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“We won the football match. Once we got ahead there was no urgency.

“We want to be entertained. There is a certain element of control which is good in tournament football.

“At the minute we’re not in a tournament, we want to be entertained.”

England had 74% of the ball and 12 shots to Albania’s three – with the hosts recording all six efforts on target in the game.

In the opening 45 minutes they completed 437 passes, the most on Opta’s records of any England first half.

The visitors did try to play more after the break, but England’s backline were only tested a few times by substitute Armando Broja.

The result itself was routine – new England manager or not. The Three Lions are unbeaten in 38 home qualifiers for World Cups or Euros since November 2007, with 34 wins.

“It was a difficult game from a spectating perspective,” said former England defender Matt Upson on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Once we got into the rhythm, it was very much an England game at Wembley against inferior opposition where they struggled to break them down.

“We are all wanting to see how Thomas Tuchel’s plan is going to happen.

“There are so many questions, but ultimately they have to manage the game itself and England did that well.”

Upson added that Tuchel probably learned to “understand what it feels like and looks like tactically” to play against a team in a low block like Albania’s.

IGP declares war on illegal mining activities

Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno Inspector General of Police, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has expressed worry over the surge in illegal mining activities in the country popularly known as galamsey.

He noted that such individuals involved in such activities carry out attacks on civilians including forest guards without any justification

According to a report by myjoyonline.com, he made these remarks while speaking at a Regional Police Commanders’ Conference on Friday, March 21, 2025.

He charged Regional Commanders to step up their efforts to tackle the menace, underscoring its impact on the environment.

“This lawlessness must not be allowed to continue. We are declaring war on illegal mining, and I expect every regional commander to take decisive action, to bring perpetrators to justice,” he stated.

As part of government’s effort to fight illegal mining, the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, announced on March 17, 2025, the commencement of a four-week training program for the first batch of 460 Blue Water Guards.

Firefighters still at scene, battling residual fires

0

Firefighting teams are still on-site battling residual fires following a blaze that erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2025, at Adum, the central business district in Kumasi.

The fire caused significant damage to several shops, prompting an immediate response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) which continued their efforts into the evening to control and extinguish the blaze.

At one point in the evening, the firefighters exhausted their water supply and had to return to the station for a refill before resuming their efforts to suppress the remaining flames.

In addition to the firefighting challenges, law enforcement arrested two individuals suspected of attempting to loot goods from the affected shops during the chaos.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities working diligently to determine its origin.

Speaking to Channel One News’ Hafiz Tijani, the Ashanti Regional Fire Commander ACFO II Peter Tetteh, attributed the rapid spread of the blaze to the market’s congested layout, which hindered effective access to the affected shops.

He emphasized the importance of traders adhering to fire safety guidelines to prevent such incidents and expressed concern over the limited accessibility for emergency responders.

Drawing a comparison, ACFO II Tetteh highlighted the Kaneshie Market’s strict enforcement of safety protocols, noting its resilience against fire outbreaks.

He advised the management of the market to enforce laws to prevent future occurrences.

“We don’t live here with you, you are doing your business, when we educate you, you accept the message and do the right thing. The management of this area must set rules of engagement for them. You know Kaneshie, since Kaneishe market was built they have never experienced a fire, because they have strong rules of engagement,” he said.

The commander also noted that earlier access to heavy machinery could have expedited firefighting efforts, mentioning that excavators were brought in later to create pathways for firefighters.

“It’s only this evening that the excavators came, we could have finished this job if we had had the excavators in the morning,” he stated.

He assured that fire personnel would remain on-site overnight to safeguard merchandise and restrict access until investigations are concluded.

Additionally, ACFO II Tetteh confirmed that some of the individuals who sustained injuries during the incident have received treatment and been discharged.

President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene to assess the damage and engage with affected traders, pledging government support to those impacted by the disaster.

He also advised traders to avoid cooking and using gas cylinders within market premises to mitigate fire risks.

The announcement underscores the government’s commitment to addressing these issues and safeguarding Ghana’s resources.

Ebo Buckman slams NPP leadership, accusing it of operating with lawlessness since 2007

A Communication Team Member of Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman A Communication Team Member of Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman

A Communication Team Member of the Movement for Change, Ebo Buckman, has condemned the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) leadership, stating that if today’s NPP was the same as in 1992, he would never join it.

He accused President Akufo-Addo of promoting a culture of lawlessness when he assumed office in 2007.

Speaking on TV3 on March 21, 2025, Buckman said, “I joined NPP 1992. I’ve always said that if this NPP was the NPP of 1992, there was no way I would have joined. You see, this NPP has operated with a culture of lawlessness since Nana Addo took over in 2007. That’s the NPP we have now.”

He further lamented how internal party rules were disregarded, dissent was suppressed, and how impunity became the norm.

“His leadership ushered in an era where internal party rules were disregarded, people with dissenting views were suppressed, and arrogance and impunity became the norm in the party. Look at the way Afoko was forced out of the party, Kwabena Agyapong and all that. At that point in time, the party was practicing rule of man instead of rule of law.

“That is the fruit of the of the seed they themselves sowed in the past that they handed the party to an individual. That is why the party is suffering as we speak today. What is happening in the party is just the beginning,” he added.

Reacting to recent issues concerning the NPP, Buckman acknowledged the bold stance of former MP for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, particularly on corruption and alleged mismanagement of the School Feeding Program.

“As we move on, you see a lot of things… Adwoa Safo, I think she’s talking too much. People have spoken the same way, along the same line, except that she’s bringing out certain issues like the corruption issues like school feeding. And it’s making the party people uncomfortable because the general secretary has also said a lot of things. My own good friend, Ayew Afriye has said a lot of things – even former Majority Leader. They are all speaking but it is because she is bringing issues that is making them uncomfortable – the issue of corruption. That is why I’m saying that I like this, that bit of what she’s saying. She’s saying that she’s being honest that this government should investigate the issue of school feeding because there is a lot of rot in there,” he added.

Kumasi Dumsor: ‘Provide Solutions Not Rhetoric’

Collins Adomako, John Abdulai Jinapor

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako, has urged the Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, to present practical solutions to the persistent power outages in Kumasi rather than engaging in rhetoric.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, during the debate on the 2025 Budget Statement, Mr. Adomako expressed disappointment at the minister’s failure to outline clear measures to resolve the worsening electricity crisis in the Ashanti Region.

He argued that businesses and households continue to suffer, and mere speeches would not alleviate their struggles.

Mr. Adomako emphasised that even the Energy Minister himself had recently acknowledged the severity of the power situation in the region.

“During the visit of the Minister himself (Energy Minister), he had cause to complain about the power situation in the Ashanti Region.

“So I was hoping that when the Energy Minister was on his feet debating, he would have sympathised with the businessmen whose cost of business has gone up and give concrete solutions to resolve the problem, but he failed,” he stated.

His remarks underscored the frustration of many residents and business owners who have endured prolonged and erratic power cuts, commonly referred to as ‘dumsor.’

The MP stressed that Kumasi, as a major economic hub, could not afford to operate under such unreliable power conditions.

He called on the Energy Minister to prioritise the needs of the people by implementing immediate and sustainable measures to stabilise the electricity supply.

He also questioned why, despite numerous assurances, the government had not been able to put in place effective interventions to address the issue comprehensively.

According to him, businesses are struggling due to increased operational costs caused by the erratic power supply, and this is negatively affecting the local economy.

Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem Sai

The Deputy Attorney-General (A-G), Dr. Justice Srem Sai, has emphasised the importance of due process, cautioning against treating individuals as guilty before a court of law determines otherwise.

His remarks come in the wake of the arrest of the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Mr Boahene was apprehended at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) upon his arrival from London on a British Airways flight.

The joint operation, conducted at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, involved EOCO investigators led by Deputy Director Raymond Archer and officials from the Attorney-General’s Department.

In a Facebook post on Friday, March 21, Dr. Srem Sai disclosed that he had visited Mr Boahene and his wife, Madam Angela Adjei-Boateng, who are currently in custody assisting with investigations.

He noted that both individuals had access to legal representation and were being treated well.

Dr Sai stressed the need for fairness in legal proceedings, stating, “No one, regardless of the nature of the suspicion or accusations, should be treated as guilty until they’re actually proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.”
