Former Inspector General of the Ghana Police Service, George Akuffo Dampare has thanked Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for making him make history.
According to him, he was appointed as Ghana’s youngest IGP and lived up to the task until he left office honorably.
Dampare in a statement reacting to his removal indicated that the former president humored him and he is grateful for the opportunity given to him.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has announced plans to introduce a Private Member’s Bill aimed at restricting public service appointments after elections until the swearing-in of a new government.
This initiative comes in response to controversies surrounding the termination of public sector workers recruited after December 7, 2024.
Speaking to Citi News, Sosu argued that last-minute appointments by outgoing governments create governance challenges and should be addressed through legislation.
“By the 7th of December 2028 to the 7th of January 2029, there shouldn’t be any appointments. Once the law is clear on that, the whole issue of people wanting to appoint when they have lost power—only for the new government to also dismiss them because there is no budgetary allocation for them—will be resolved,” he explained.
He emphasized that ensuring a clear legal framework would prevent unnecessary dismissals and disruptions within the public sector.
“I believe that we can simply cure this by amending the law, and that is why we have put together a proposal, which we are presenting before the Parliament of Ghana. It is currently undergoing review, and once the law is ready, I am sure it will be made known to the people of Ghana,” he added.
The proposed bill is expected to spark discussions on governance practices and the management of public appointments during political transitions.

Beyond internal management, Agbey also stressed the need for improved communication within the Police Service, expressing hope that Yohuno’s tenure will prioritize restoring effective police communication channels.
“As IGP, we hope he will help restore police communications,” he noted, emphasizing the role of transparency and clear messaging in fostering public confidence in the Police Service,” he urged.

Ghanaian entrepreneur and Guinness World Record contender, Afua Asantewaa, has stated that the only thing she received from a government official during her first sing-a-thon attempt was medicine.
In an interview with Nana Romeo, shared on Instagram on March 13, 2025, Afua Asantewaa said contrary to claims she had received cars and an apartment from the previous government, the only thing she received was medicine to cure her sore throat from the former vice president, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“I didn’t receive anything from the government. The only thing I got was a medicine to heal my throat and that was from the former vice president. When he visited me during the performance, she said.
Afua Asantewaa, however, clarified that although she was informed that some individuals and organisations had supported her with gifts, most of the gifts presented to her during the contest never actually reached her.
“I am told people gave gifts and cash. However, I would be lying if I said I received them moreover I was working with a team so most of this thing went through them. Also, some people in T-shirts had my name. I don’t even have a list that contains the names of people who supported me financially,” she stated.

Two pro-NPP media outlets, Wontumi TV and Ken City Media, have expressed their frustration with the Minority Caucus of Parliament for allegedly sidelining them from party press conferences. Representatives from both media houses have vowed to boycott future NPP press events in protest.
Speaking on Wontumi TV, Oheneba Nana Asiedu criticised the NPP for neglecting the station despite it’s loyalty to the party. “I won’t speak about their press conference because they have decided to forsake Wontumi TV and Wontumi Radio. Tomorrow, if anyone makes mistakes and speaks about the Minority’s press conference, I will personally take them off air”he stated.
Asiedu further alleged that when Wontumi TV sought clarification from NPP leaders about their exclusion, they were told there was no budget allocation for them.
“The last time we called Annoh-Dompreh, he told us their budget did not cover Wontumi TV and FM, yet they invited Accra based non-NPP stations. Today because of this attitude, Bawumia is losing the minority caucus of parliament” he said.
Ken City Media—including Oman FM, NET2 TV, Nap Radio, and Ash FM—also expressed disappointment that despite being regarded as the mouthpiece of the NPP, they were consistently left out of party press events.
“Today I am very said. Ken City Media has always been there for the NPP. Even the minority leader confirmed that we are the mouthpiece of the party. We have projected the NPP far and wide, yet when they hold press conferences, not a single Ken City station is invited. What they are doing is not right.” Lawyer Annoh-Dartey said.
He urged the party to include Ken City Media in major events such as budget presentations and policy discussions, stressing that the had endured hardship to support the party.
The growing discontent among pro-NPP media houses raises concerns about internal unity as the party navigates post-election loses.

The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Sam Nartey George, has called on members of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) to ensure inclusive participation as they work to reset Ghana’s digital agenda.
Mr Nartey George emphasized that Ghana’s digital transformation cannot be achieved in isolation and that it requires a shared responsibility, demanding collaboration from all stakeholders.
He made these remarks in a speech read on his behalf by IT Specialist, Dr Mark Oliver Kevor at the press launch and inauguration of the of the 2025 IGF MAG in Accra on Wednesday, March 5.
The Ghana IGF Multistakeholder Advisory Group is a collaborative body formed to guide and support the planning and implementation of the country’s internet usage policies.
It includes a diverse group of stakeholders from government, the private sector, civil society, academia, and technical communities, all of whom play a key role in fostering inclusive dialogue on internet governance issues.
“We find ourselves at a defining moment in Ghana’s digital transformation journey, where it is stricter to not just move forward but also to pause, reflect and also reset. Today, as we launch this important platform and initiative, we are also resetting Ghana’s digital agenda,” he said.
“As we inaugurate the Ghana IGF Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group and officially launch it, we need to look at all that come out with policies governing the internet. Let us face forward, united in purpose, as we reset and build a digital Ghana that is inclusive, innovative and ready to embrace the future,” he stressed.
The Minister further highlighted the need for sustainable development through technology as the nation tackles emerging challenges such as cybersecurity. He urged the MAG to work toward creating opportunities for all Ghanaians.
“The theme for today’s event, Building an Inclusive Digital Future Together, is both a guiding principle and a call to action. In this context, we look to you for leadership, as your efforts will help us reset and redefine Ghana’s digital agenda, focusing on policy cohesion, innovation, and inclusion,” he stated.
“With the inauguration of the MAG today, we are taking an important step toward a more inclusive, equitable, and forward-thinking digital agenda for Ghana.”
“As we reset our digital agenda, we must remember that this journey will require patience, dialogue, compromise and most importantly, bold action. To the advisory group, I urge you to be bold in your recommendations and inclusive in your outreach,” he added.
The Member of Parliament for Tempane, Lydia Lamisi Akanvariba, stated that globalization has brought nations closer together, making it essential to have conversations about the most visible aspects of the world in ways that drive meaningful change.
She acknowledged that while the internet has been a blessing to humanity, it also comes with its challenges, providing opportunities to discuss how to secure the sustainability of the digital space.
“The visibility and impact of globalization in nearly every aspect of life can largely be attributed to the rise of the internet.”
She continued, “This forum offers an opportunity to propose ideas for ensuring the sustainability of digital policies, while also exploring innovative strategies to minimize inefficiency, promote digital inclusiveness, and build capacity to address the challenges posed by the internet.”
Madam Akanvariba, who chairs the MAG, emphasized their vision for the country: to establish a strong, inclusive digital ecosystem in Ghana, where all citizens can actively participate and benefit from the internet.
“This initiative will focus on bridging the digital divide, promoting responsible online behavior, and empowering Ghanaian stakeholders to shape the nation’s digital future through open dialogue and policy engagement,” she assured.

Brazilian football icon Ronaldo has withdrawn from the race to become president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) after facing resistance from the country’s regional federations.
The 48-year-old, who played 98 times for Brazil and won two World Cups, had aimed to challenge current CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues, whose term ends in March 2026. However, Ronaldo revealed that 23 out of 27 regional federations refused to meet with him, expressing support for Rodrigues’ re-election.
“On my first contact with the 27 regional federations, I found 23 closed doors,” Ronaldo stated. “The federations refused to receive me on the grounds of their satisfaction with the current administration and support for [Rodrigues’] re-election.”
Under the CBF’s voting structure, regional federations hold the most influence, with three votes each. Serie A clubs get two votes, while Serie B sides have one vote each.
Ronaldo expressed disappointment over the lack of dialogue but acknowledged the federations’ right to support Rodrigues. With Ronaldo stepping aside, Rodrigues is now expected to run unopposed in the upcoming election.
Ronaldo, a World Cup winner in 1994 and 2002, retired from international football in 2011 after a 17-year career.

New York, Mar. 14, (dpa/GNA) – Dozens of people demonstrated inside Trump Tower in New York City against the arrest and planned deportation of Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student who played a leading role in last year’s pro-Gaza protests on the campus of Columbia University.
Jewish Voice for Peace, an organization that advocates for Palestinian rights, said on social media: “Police arrested hundreds of protestors including Jewish elders, descendants of Holocaust survivors, and students, dragging them out of a sit-in at Trump Tower by their arms and legs.”
The demonstrators demanded, among other things, Khalil’s release, as could be seen on livestreams and in images published on social media.
According to media reports, the police ended the unannounced sit-in in the lobby of Trump Tower, a high-rise building in the middle of Manhattan where US President Donald Trump used to have his main residence.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) said that some 150 people dressed in civilian clothes entered the building on Thursday morning and then removed their outer clothing to reveal red t-shirts with pro-Palestinian slogans.
“We ended up making 98 arrests of people trespassing, obstructing governmental administration in this building,” NYPD Chief of Department John Chell said.
US immigration officials forced their way into Khalil’s flat on Sunday and detained him, according to media reports. He was later taken to a detention centre in the US state of Louisiana, which lies some 2,000 kilometres away from New York.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told reporters in a briefing that Khalil, a student at Columbia, distributed propaganda for Palestinian militant organization Hamas, claiming that he “sided with terrorists.”
Leavitt also said Khalil organized protest groups that disrupted classes and “harassed Jewish American students and made them feel unsafe.”
The spokeswoman said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio “reserves the right to revoke the visa of Mahmoud Khalil,” adding that he has a right to do so for “individuals who are adversarial to the foreign policy and national security interests of the USA.”
A court had initially blocked Khalil’s deportation to allow time for a ruling, according to media reports.
Khalil, who, according to the New York Times, is married to a US citizen who is eight months pregnant, has an unlimited US residence permit, his lawyer says.

The Minority in Parliament has called on Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang to appear before the House on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, to contribute to the debate on the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy scheduled for the same day.
The Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South, Patrick Yaw Boamah, made the request in Parliament on Friday, March 14, 2025.
He emphasised that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s extensive experience in the education sector would provide valuable insights in shaping the budget.
“The Business Committee has made allocations for ministers of state, leaving out the Vice President, who has been very quiet. It is important to see her in action on the floor to debate the President’s economic and financial policy, especially given her background as a former Minister of Education.
“I, therefore, urge the Business Committee to amend the Business Paper and allocate time for the Vice President to be present. As the first female Vice President, she is permitted by the Constitution to participate,” he stated.
The request is based on Article 111 of the Constitution, which grants the Vice President the right to take part in parliamentary proceedings.

The Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), Professor Peter Quartey, has questioned the urgency behind the government’s move to return to the international capital market.
Speaking with the media in Accra on March 14, 2025, Prof. Quartey emphasised the need for a more pragmatic approach to external borrowing, arguing that accumulating debt is unsustainable.
According to him, Ghana’s deficit financing stood at 3.2% of GDP in 2023, with the 2024 figure projected to rise to 5.2% of GDP.
“I want to sound this caution: borrow less from the capital market and at reasonable interest rates. These days, you hear that we want to go to the capital market. After the restructuring, you hear that we are hoping to finish the process soon and be able to return to the capital market.
“But why the rush? That is where we went before, and now we are facing these problems. Yet, we still want to quickly finish giving people a haircut and return to the capital market. I think we should tread cautiously when it comes to borrowing, especially through Eurobonds and other capital market funds.
“They are too expensive and unsustainable. We ought to shy away from them. Instead, let us focus on mobilizing more multilateral and domestic sources of funding because they are cheaper,” Professor Peter Quartey stated.

Jose Mourinho has taken another swipe at Allan Saint-Maximin, labeling him a poet.
The two engaged in a war of words on social media after Mourinho dropped the former Newcastle United forward from Fenerbahçe’s Europa League game against Rangers on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Following his exclusion, Saint-Maximin took to social media, posting, “It will take more than this to defeat me. When a lie takes the elevator, the truth takes the stairs. It takes longer, but it always arrives in the end. If God is with us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31.”
After the game, Mourinho responded to the post, calling Saint-Maximin overweight and sarcastically praising his poetry skills.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Dayi, has refuted claims that National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs are lobbying for appointments at the Flagstaff House as reported by Ghana Web.
Dafeamekpor made this statement on Thursday, March 13, 2025, in response to accusations from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that NDC MPs were neglecting their parliamentary duties in pursuit of positions.
He insisted that NDC lawmakers remain committed to their legislative responsibilities and fully participate in parliamentary business.
“We are not ceremonial attendees to parliamentary proceedings; we attend to conduct business,” he asserted, dismissing suggestions that his colleagues were absent because they were chasing appointments.
Addressing concerns about the delay in appointing four additional Ministers of State, Dafeamekpor clarified that the responsibility for such decisions lies solely with President John Mahama.
He assured that the President would make the appointments at the appropriate time without any external interference.
He also rejected claims that Mahama’s administration had only appointed ten percent women, labeling the assertion as inaccurate.

Nigerian singer Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, has responded to a viral video of a man who claims to be his father and has accused him of neglect.
The man, identified as Fatai Odunsi, tearfully appealed for financial assistance after suffering from a stroke.
In the video, he alleged that Asake had abandoned him, stating that the last time they saw each other was in March 2022 when his illness began.
Calling on Nigerians for help with his medical treatment, Odunsi said, “Good day everyone, I’m the one that gave birth to Ahmed Asake the singer.
“The last time I set my eyes on him was March 2022 when my sickness started. If I called Asake, he won’t pick. Please help me, it is your help that I need.”

An elated group of civilians and police personnel gathered on Friday to give a warm welcome to the newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Police Headquarters.
This followed his swearing-in by President John Mahama at the Jubilee House.
The jubilant crowd, mostly dressed in white, expressed their pride and support for COP Yohuno as his convoy entered the premises.
During the arrival, a yet-to-be-identified man was seen showering cash at the people surrounding the vehicle.
A rush ensued as the money flew through the air before landing on the ground, sparking enthusiasm and jubilation among those fortunate enough to collect the cash.
A man who stalked Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Tweedy has been jailed for 16 weeks after leaving the pop star “terrified” when he turned up at her home again.
Daniel Bannister had already been jailed for targeting the singer twice at her home, in the Chalfonts area of Buckinghamshire, when he returned on 10 December.
The 50-year-old, who was convicted of manslaughter in 2012, had been given a restraining order for turning up in January last year and saying “It’s Daniel, I’ve come to get Cheryl” and then returning in July asking for a glass of wine.
After showing up in December, he admitted harassment and the breach and attempted breach of his restraining order, and has now been sentenced again.
Tweedy said she “immediately panicked” and “feared for my safety” after seeing him on a security camera at her property in December, High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court heard.
He had been given a four-month jail term in September for the initial offences.
Jailing him again, District Judge Arvind Sharma also replaced Bannister’s existing three-year restraining order with a new one that would run indefinitely.
The judge said Bannister, of no fixed address, knew the singer was “very distressed and upset” by what he was doing.
He added that no mental health issue had been diagnosed.
‘Feared for my safety’
Tweedy, who was not present in court, said in a statement she was able to watch footage of Bannister via her phone after he rang her doorbell in December.
She added that she “immediately panicked” and “feared for my safety”.
“I knew this was Daniel because I have had previous incidents where Daniel has come to my property,” she told police at the time.
“I was concerned he was looking for a way into the property.”
Tweedy told officers her son, Bear, was due back from the cinema, and she did not want him to see the stalker, the court heard.
“I want to protect my child from any harm,” she added.
Prosecutor Datta Ryan said Tweedy felt “violated, terrified and unsafe in her own home”.
The court was told Bannister used an intercom at Tweedy’s home in January 2024 and claimed he had “come to get Cheryl”.
Six months later, he again called the house and said he was “really thirsty, I just want a glass of wine please”.
The most recent incident took place three weeks after Tweedy attended the funeral of One Direction star Liam Payne in Amersham Buckinghamshire. The pair had had a child together but had split up.
Payne died after falling from a balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in October.
Colin Mackrell, mitigating, told the judge his client Bannister “knows he should not have done what he did”.
“He has formed in his mind an affection for her,” said Mr Mackrell.
The barrister argued the stalker did not pose a “direct threat” to Tweedy.
Bannister asked the judge if he could read a statement to the court, but was advised not to by his lawyer.
YMCA killing
In an unrelated case, Bannister had also been jailed for killing Rajendra Patel, 48, at a south London YMCA homeless shelter in 2012.
Mr Patel died 15 days after he was attacked in Croydon on 21 February that year.
He was taken to the hospital where he was treated for bruising and swelling to the left side of his face, a broken nose and a fractured ankle.
Three weeks later he died of a pulmonary thromboembolism, due to deep venous thrombosis of the left femoral vein due to a recent fracture of his left ankle, which was treated with a plaster cast.
Bannister admitted manslaughter and was jailed for two and a half years at Kingston Crown Court.
Following the latest sentencing at High Wycombe, the Crown Prosecution Service’s Kathleen O’Callaghan said: “The unwanted attention of offenders like Daniel Bannister can leave victims feeling alarmed and fearful.
“Bannister plainly disregarded a previous restraining order, and the Crown Prosecution Service argued these deliberate breaches were made more serious by the fact that they were committed so shortly after the order was made.”
Bannister has already spent three months in prison on remand awaiting sentence and could be released in a matter of weeks.
Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has expressed his deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve Ghana, following his recent dismissal from office.

Reflecting on his 35-year career in the Ghana Police Service, Dr. Dampare expressed his appreciation for rising from a General Constable to Inspector General of Police, holding the distinction of being the youngest Commissioner of Police and IGP in the Fourth Republic.
He extended his gratitude to the Police Management Board (POMAB) and all officers of the service for their dedication and wished them well.
Dr. Dampare reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Ghana, stating that at nearly 55 years old, he remains energetic, disciplined, and dedicated to serving his country with honor and integrity.

The Asantehene outlined several cases the chief was involved and questioned his intent for fueling tensions.
In rebuking the Bantamahene’s behavior, the Asantehene sternly quizzed “What at all do you seek?”
The Asantehene is said to have been particularly disturbed by the Bantamahene’s actions, which he believes are undermining the peace and stability of the region.
The Asantehene’s words are being interpreted as a call to the Bantamahene to reflect on his actions and to consider the consequences of his involvement in the disputes.

Popular Ghanaian musician King Paluta has opened up about how he handles criticism and negative commentary from individuals.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s Afternoon Show, the ‘Aseda’ hitmaker shared that such comments rather motivated him and ultimately propelled him to mainstream success.
“I don’t care. If I can pick something useful from what they say, I will. The critics might think they’re bringing me down with what they say, but their insults and negative comments are what made me who I am today,” he said.
The musician, real name Thomas Adjei Wireko, explained that he initially started as a rapper but faced criticism for his rap style.
Instead of being discouraged, he took the feedback to heart and shifted to singing, a move that has since defined his career.
“My core fans know I used to do rap. But some people would criticise my rap. Anytime I dropped a rap song, people would come under my comments and be like, why don’t you sing? So instead of letting their words get to me, they rather motivated me. I tried doing more singing. So the critics are the reason why I’m here,” he said.
Asked if an artiste can make good money from music, King Paluta said it would be if one surrounds himself with the right people.
“We’ve worked with some people where we weren’t getting what we were supposed to get. But using the right people is where we are now.
“If you don’t have the right people around you, you’ll slide away. They give you helpful tips and guide you in the right direction,” he noted.

George Akuffo Dampare has been removed from his role as IGP
COP George Alex Mensah (rtd) has made some scathing comments about the former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, calling him the ‘worst IGP ever.’
He made the comment during an interview with Adom FM.
Mensah criticised Dampare’s administration for prioritising social media appearances over actual groundwork, giving him a 25% performance rating.
He faulted Dampare’s leadership style, stating that he failed to establish a good working relationship with his subordinates.
This criticism is echoed by a security analyst, Paul Boateng.
“He is not very accessible and only does eye servicing instead of the real job on the ground,” Boateng stated.
Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa also appreciated the efforts of Dampare, suggesting that he may have been misunderstood.
Cudjoe also questioned COP George Mensah’s criticism of Dampare as having been a ‘social media IGP,’ seeking clarification on what he meant by this label.
He encouraged the new IGP, COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to build upon the good works of Dampare, ultimately serving the nation’s best interest.

The Dean of the University of Professional Studies Law School, Professor Ernest Kofi Abotsi, has commended President John Dramani Mahama for the bold decision to visit some of the Sahel states.

Last week, President John Dramani Mahama visited Burkina Faso as part of his ‘good neighbourliness’ tour, aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties with neighbouring countries.
Upon arrival, he was warmly received at the airport by Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traore.
The two leaders later held a closed-door meeting, during which they discussed key issues, including regional security, economic cooperation, and diplomatic relations.
This visit followed President Mahama earlier visits of Niger and Mali — which make up the three nations that recently withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and established the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
Addressing the situation, President Mahama said that the primary reason behind the exit of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger from ECOWAS is a breakdown in trust.
He stressed the importance of rebuilding trust and confidence between the nations, acknowledging that while it will take time, efforts must be made to restore strong regional cooperation.

A few months ago, Kofi Adomah Nwanwanii, along with his team from Angel FM/TV, Kofi TV, and MagrahebTV, travelled to Dormaa Ahenkro in the Bono Region of Ghana to cover the Dormaa Kwafie festival and the 25th anniversary of the enstoolment of Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II.
While covering the event, he was shot in the face by one of the gunmen wielding a musket, causing severe damage to his eyes and necessitating a series of surgeries on both eyes.
A GoFundMe account has since been created to solicit funds for another upcoming surgery.

Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea, who chaired the parliamentary committee that investigated the leaked tape allegedly plotting to remove former IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has reacted to Dampare’s removal from office.
In a write-up sighted by GhanaWeb, Atta Akyea stated that Ghanaians would be shocked if they saw reports detailing the actions of the former IGP, which were presented to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He asserted that Dr. Dampare managed to conceal his true nature from the public but has now been exposed.
“There is a world of difference between reputation and character. You can pay good money to prop up your reputation so the world will believe you are the one who was crucified on the cross. The rented press are good at inflating reputation. Those who are superficial in orientation may even worship reputation, but character cannot hide; it’s like a pregnancy, and it will ultimately show.
“If you know the dossier on Dampare which was placed on the table of President Akufo-Addo, you will be shocked. Why he was romancing such evil,” Atta Akyea wrote.
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) legislator claimed that some leading figures in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), including a “Bagbin” and an “Agalga,” were protecting Dr. Dampare from being removed from office.
He argued that President John Dramani Mahama made the right decision in dismissing Dampare.
“Why was NDC, pre-election, comfortable with Akufo-Addo’s appointee? Why were Bagbin, Agalga, and the cabal hell-bent on protecting the IGP?
“At least Mahama is displaying a modicum of common sense: How can you be disloyal to Akufo-Addo, your appointor, and be loyal to me?… A leader should not spray cologne on faeces,” he wrote.
About the removal of Dr. Dampare
On March 13, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama relieved Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare of his duties.
He subsequently appointed COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector General of Police.
A statement issued by the Minister of Government Communication, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed that the appointment was made in accordance with the Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State.
“President John Dramani Mahama has, in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution and in consultation with the Council of State, appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the Inspector-General of Police.
“He replaces COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.
“COP Yohuno brings forty years of experience to the position of IGP and is expected to oversee the modernisation and transformation of the Ghana Police Service,” the statement read.

Ghanaian business mogul, Daniel Mckorley
The Executive Chairman of the McDan Group, Daniel McKorley, popularly known as McDan, has emphasised the role of hard work in achieving success.
He noted that as an entrepreneur, it is important to take proactive steps after praying.
McDan stated that prayer alone does not guarantee success; rather, combining it with action yields results.
“There is nothing Pastor Ocran can do for you if you are lazy. There is nothing God can do for you if you pray and fast for 100 days but fail to take a step,” he declared, drawing inspiration from James 2:17, which states that “faith without works is dead,” McDan said.

Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro is a goalkeeper of AZ ALkmaar
Dutch-born Ghanaian goalkeeper Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro has dismissed suggestions of representing the Black Stars, stating that his focus lies elsewhere.
The 20-year-old, whose father is Ghanaian, is eligible to play for Ghana.
He was in goal for AZ Alkmaar’s Round of 16 match against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, March 13, 2025, but endured a tough night, conceding three goals in a 3-1 defeat that saw his team exit the competition.
Despite the disappointing loss, he took the time for an interview with UK-based Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman.
When asked about the possibility of playing for Ghana, Owusu-Oduro revealed that representing the Black Stars is not a priority for him at the moment.
“Not now. I have to focus on playing with the U21 (Netherlands) so we can qualify for the European Championship. My focus is here. I see it as a possibility in the future, but it’s not my priority,” he said.
Owusu-Oduro also expressed his admiration for Jordan Ayew, Andre Ayew, and Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer, Asamoah Gyan.
“I watched the Ayew brothers, Asamoah Gyan, and a few other players with my dad,” he added.
The young goalkeeper has made 19 appearances for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie this season, keeping two clean sheets in his last five games.

Tanzania is set to enhance specialised healthcare services as Bugando Medical Centre (BMC), a referral hospital in the Lake Zone, prepares to introduce kidney transplant procedures later this year.
Speaking at the commemoration of World Kidney Day yesterday, the director of Surgical Services at BMC, Dr Alicia Masenga, confirmed the development.
Dr Masenga, who was speaking on behalf of Acting Director General, Dr Bahati Wajanga, said the high prevalence of kidney-related conditions in the Lake Zone was a key reason for introducing transplant services at Bugando.
She said that the remaining steps before launching the service include the return of specialised surgeons currently completing training abroad and the installation of essential surgical equipment.
“Preparations for launching kidney transplant services are progressing well,” she said.
Once operational, Bugando will become the fourth hospital in Tanzania to provide kidney transplant services, joining the Upanga and Mloganzila facilities of the Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam and Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) in Dodoma.
MNH became the first Tanzanian medical facility to perform kidney transplants in 2017 at its Upanga facility after developing local expertise to handle the complex procedure.
The service was later extended to its Mloganzila facility.
BMH later followed suit, and last week announced that it has successfully performed kidney transplants on 25 patients, saving the government billions of shillings in overseas referral costs over the past four years.
BMH Executive Director, Prof Habel Makubi, revealed last week that the achievements were made possible following a Sh36.95 billion investment in specialised medical services during President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s four years in office.
Speaking at the same event, the Head of the Dialysis Unit at Bugando, Dr Said Kanenda, revealed that the hospital treats an average of 140 patients per week for dialysis. He noted that kidney-related conditions in Tanzania are increasing at an alarming rate.
According to Ministry of Health, the number of patients requiring dialysis rose from 1,017 in 2019 to 3,231 by December 2023. Kidney patients requiring dialysis typically need the procedure at least three times a week to maintain their daily activities.
“On average, a dialysis session in Tanzania costs Sh200,000, meaning a patient spends approximately Sh600,000 weekly on treatment,” he said.
He cited high blood pressure, diabetes, and proteinuria (excess protein in urine) as the leading causes of kidney disease among patients at the hospital. He also noted that some women develop kidney failure due to excessive bleeding and eclampsia during childbirth.
“We receive between three and six women per month who require dialysis due to complications arising during childbirth. That is why we strongly advise pregnant women to seek medical care early and follow doctors’ recommendations, including taking iron supplements,” Dr Kanenda said.
Preventive measures
As part of the World Kidney Day commemorations, Bugando conducted a one-day screening exercise among 178 Mwanza residents.
Of those screened, 56 individuals (31 percent) were diagnosed with high blood pressure, while 8 (4.5 percent) had diabetes. Additionally, 17 patients were found to have bacterial infections in their urinary tract, while 20 exhibited proteinuria, indicating a heightened risk of developing kidney disease.
Dr Kanenda warned that high blood pressure, diabetes, and proteinuria are serious conditions, as they signal that the kidneys’ filtration system is not functioning properly, which can eventually lead to kidney failure.
Meanwhile, Mwanza Regional Medical Officer (RMO), Dr Jesca Leba, urged the public to prioritise regular medical check-ups to detect kidney disease early and reduce the high cost of treatment.
“We need to encourage routine health check-ups. Many women in our region are experiencing kidney-related challenges. We are engaging communities by advising women to ensure they have sufficient blood levels before pregnancy and take iron supplements when necessary,” she said.
She also encouraged Tanzanians to enrol in health insurance schemes before being diagnosed with kidney disease, to mitigate the financial burden of treatment.

Clement John, a dialysis patient, expressed optimism about Bugando’s kidney transplant programme, saying it would save many lives and reduce dependence on dialysis.
“Introducing kidney transplants at Bugando is a great initiative. I already have a willing kidney donor, but the major challenge has been finding a facility for the procedure. Currently, transplants are only available in Dar es Salaam and Dodoma, and the cost of staying there is overwhelming,” he said.
Another patient, Elvina Vitalis, thanked the government and Bugando Hospital for bringing dialysis services closer to Mwanza residents. She expressed hope that once kidney transplants commence, she could be relieved of the burden of weekly dialysis sessions.
Medical experts have warned that certain lifestyle habits increase the risk of developing kidney disease. These include obesity, smoking, consumption of food contaminated with harmful pesticides, and leading a sedentary lifestyle.

Renowned investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has defended President John Mahama’s decision to appoint COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), replacing Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

The 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of Ghana proposes a significant amendment to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) Act, 2018 (Act 978). The amendment seeks to transfer 80 per cent of mineral royalties originally retained by MIIF to the Consolidated Fund for infrastructure development.
This policy shift represents a fundamental change in the purpose and operation of MIIF, which was originally established to act as a sovereign wealth fund (SWF) for Ghana’s mineral resources. The MIIF’s mandate under Act 978 was to manage and invest Ghana’s mineral royalties in ways that generate long-term financial returns for the country, ensuring economic stability even when mineral resources are depleted.
The decision to redirect all MIIF’s funds into government spending raises important concerns regarding the sustainability of Ghana’s mineral wealth, economic diversification, and long-term fiscal stability. Below is an in-depth analysis of what this shift means for MIIF’s operations, followed by a comparative assessment of how other countries—particularly Norway, Bahrain, and the Netherlands, have managed similar funds.

If Ghana fails to leverage its mineral wealth for long-term financial stability, it risks falling into a boom-and-bust cycle, where mineral revenues are quickly spent but provide no lasting economic benefits.
What is a Sovereign Wealth Fund?
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) defines Sovereign Wealth Fund as “Special-purpose investment funds or arrangements, owned by the general government. Created by the general government for macroeconomics purposes, SWFs hold, manage, or administer assets to achieve financial objectives, and employ a set of investment strategies which include investing in foreign financial assets.”
Simply put, a Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) is a state-owned investment fund that is typically established using surplus revenues, such as those derived from natural resources (e.g., oil, gas, or minerals) or foreign exchange reserves. These funds are managed with the goal of generating long-term returns to support national development, stabilize the economy, or preserve wealth for future generations. SWFs invest in a wide range of assets, including stocks, bonds, real estate, infrastructure, and private equity.
Ghana’s Risky Gamble: Why Gutting MIIF for Short-Term Spending Threatens the Nation’s Economic Future
The government’s decision to redirect 80% of MIIF funds into the Consolidated Fund essentially converts Ghana’s mineral wealth into immediate budgetary support, that prioritises immediate infrastructure needs over long-term economic stability, a risky fiscal gamble. If Ghana’s MIIF follows the path of direct budget support, it risks losing its ability to act as a financial buffer for future economic stability. Again, if this policy is not reconsidered, Ghana risks becoming another cautionary tale of a resource-rich nation squandering its wealth instead of harnessing it for sustainable economic transformation.
Currently, Government of Ghana through MIIF owns stakes in strategic mining assets such as the Bibiani-Mansin Gold and Chirano through its mother company Asante Gold. It also owns significant shares in Electrochem, which has the capacity to produce 1.2 million metric tons of salt, making it Africa’s largest salt-producing entity. In the long-term, such strategic assets would yield dividends more than 1$ billion with current investments not exceeding $75 million for just these mining assets listed. MIIF could easily grow to become a $10 billion Sovereign Wealth Fund in the next 15 years if properly managed and that would generate sufficient funds to support government infrastructural projects over the period.

MIIF plays a critical role in stabilising and expanding Ghana’s mining industry, especially through strategic investments and financing of small-scale miners. With a reduced financial base, MIIF may:
