ANOMABO-OBOADZE – In a significant step toward community development, the Anomabo-Oboadze traditional authority has enstooled Regina Nana Akua Fordjour as their new Development Chief, Mpuntuhen Nana Akua Adepa Fordjour II.

During her coronation on Saturday, October 18, 2024, she immediately launched the Nana Adepa Foundation II (NAF 2 Foundation), an initiative aimed at equipping local youth with employable skills and bolstering the agricultural economy.

The vibrant, well-attended ceremony showcased the community’s rich cultural heritage and united traditional and religious leaders in a shared vision for progress.

In her inaugural address, Nana Fordjour expressed her gratitude for the honor and pledged her unwavering commitment to the community’s advancement. “I will give my best to support the development of Anomabo-Oboadze,” she assured.

The cornerstone of her plan is the NAF 2 Foundation, which aims to raise $65,000 from corporate Ghana and individual donors. The funds will establish two key projects: a Cassava Processing Factory and a Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) school.

Nana Fordjour, a miner and entrepreneur in her early forties, explained the logic behind the factory. “Since the entire Aboadze community is noted for cassava farming, the factory will process cassava into gari and starch for both local consumption and export,” she said. She confidently declared to the community, “The days of cassava glut in our area are gone.”

She elaborated on the broader benefits, highlighting cassava’s drought-resistant nature as a key asset for food security. Processing the root into flour, starch, and ethanol, she noted, extends its shelf life, expands market reach, and creates jobs in farming, processing, and distribution. This, in turn, supports rural livelihoods and opens up export opportunities.

“Processing cassava minimises waste by transforming all parts of the plant into valuable by-products like animal feed and biofuel,” Nana Fordjour stated. “It is a vital economic activity that improves food security, promotes sustainable agriculture, and diversifies industrial applications for developing countries like Ghana.”

Complementing the factory, the planned TVET centre will focus on equipping youth, particularly vulnerable girls, with practical technical skills tailored to local and global job markets. Nana Fordjour emphasised that this initiative is designed to reduce unemployment, improve job readiness, and foster self-reliance through vocational careers and small business development.

She called for a collective effort, urging corporate Ghana and the community to unite in support. “Collective effort, investment, and collaboration are crucial to unlocking the full potential of Anomabo-Oboadze,” she stressed.

Her vision received strong endorsements from dignitaries at the event. Nana Obokese Ampah, Apegyahen of the Asebu Traditional Area, who presided over the ceremony, praised her determination and spirit. “True wealth is built not just on ambition but on the courage to empower others,” he said.

Dr. Ebenezer Prince Kojo Arhin, the Member of Parliament, and Mr. Stanley Eric Acquah, the Municipal Chief Executive, also expressed their support, noting that Nana Fordjour’s initiatives align with the government’s industrialisation agenda.

“Her rise from humble origins to a revered leader exemplifies the power of faith and resilience,” Dr. Arhin added. “She inspires generations to overcome challenges and lead with purpose.”

An experienced entrepreneur and religious leader, Nana Fordjour has already provided employment to nearly a thousand youths through her various business ventures. Her enstoolment as Mpuntuhen formally recognises her as a proven leader dedicated to the prosperity of her people.

The mother-of-two and her family were on board a flight during the surprise presentation.

He wrote, “My Gee! The story of the missing ring has made its rounds, and as always, she narrated it with her usual charm. In truth, it was never about the ring itself but about the bond it represents, one built on love, patience, and understanding. Life with her remains a beautiful blend of laughter, lessons, and grace.”

“Although, with a strict condition never to misplace this one.

“So yes, she has her new ring now, one that mirrors the growth of our journey together. Keep shining, Gee. Always proud of you.”

Ghana must boost exports to benefit from China’s zero-tariff policy – Bokpin

0

Economist and Professor of Finance at the University of Ghana Business School, Godfred Bokpin, has welcomed the news of China’s zero-tariff policy for African countries, but warned that the real benefits to Ghana will only materialize if the country strengthens its export competitiveness.

Speaking on the Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, October 19, following President John Dramani Mahama’s recent bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, Prof. Bokpin said while the announcement may appear to be good news on the surface, the actual impact will depend on Ghana’s ability to take advantage of the opportunity.

“Ordinarily, one could say this is good news. Whatever way you look at it, you can say good news,” he noted. “But whatever advantages or other benefits we talk about now they could be more theoretical, hypothetical. I am saying so because translating the intended objective, benefits into actual will depend more on the hard work that has to be done by our exporters.”

China’s zero-tariff policy, discussed during President Mahama’s visit for the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, is part of a broader commitment by China to deepen cooperation with African countries and boost trade. President Xi expressed hopes that Ghana would soon benefit from the policy, which eliminates tariffs on selected goods exported from Africa to China.

However, Prof. Bokpin cautioned that Ghana must focus on building a competitive advantage in its export sector to benefit meaningfully from such trade preferences.

“When we talk about our exporters we are talking about competitive advantage that we have also created to enable our exporters to be able to take advantage of such zero tariffs.”

Golden Kick end Semper Fi’s unbeaten start at Tuba Astroturf – Ghana Latest Football News, Live Scores, Results

0

Semper Fi’s unbeaten run in the Division One League came to an end on Sunday as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Golden Kick at the Tuba Astroturf.

After a competitive first half that produced few clear chances, the home side found the breakthrough early in the second period. Shaban Abubakar struck in the 49th minute, finishing off a well-worked move to give Golden Kick the lead.

Despite Semper Fi’s efforts to respond, the hosts defended resolutely and managed the game well to preserve their advantage until the final whistle. It was a frustrating outcome for Semper Fi, who had enjoyed a strong start to the season with one win and two draws, often looking the better side in each of their opening matches.

The defeat will serve as a setback for the Teshie-based club, who will now turn their focus to next week’s fixture at the McDan Sports Complex, where they host Golden Warriors. With their unbeaten start now over, Semper Fi will be determined to bounce back quickly and rediscover their early-season form.

From graduate to advocate: Accam applauds Mansour’s investment in Right to Dream Ghana

0

David Accam has backed the Mansour Group’s plan to build a new world-class Right to Dream (RTD) Academy near Accra, calling it a landmark for Ghanaian youth development.

The former Ghana winger, himself an RTD graduate, said the project will lift both education and football standards for the next generation.

The facility—set to break ground in early 2026—will host over 100 student-athletes and replace the Old Akrade base, with all scholarships honoured during a temporary relocation in the Accra area.

Government has welcomed the investment, which forms part of the Mansour Group’s wider backing for RTD’s global network of academies and clubs.

Since acquiring RTD in 2021 through Man Capital, the Group has invested over US$180m, opening new academies in Cairo and San Diego and strengthening pathways to professional football and academic scholarships.

Accam, who rose from RTD to Europe with Helsingborg and later starred in Major League Soccer for Chicago Fire and Philadelphia Union, framed the new build as the product of two decades of steady growth he watched from the inside.

“I was part of the first generations coming through the Right to Dream academy in Ghana. Though I am grateful for the opportunity that changed my life, I am also aware, that the students and kids in the program today are benefitting from the progress the organization has made over the years since I started,” he said, reflecting on the academy’s evolution.

He added that RTD’s expansion—more students, a deeper academic pathway and a linked club system through FC Nordsjaelland and the US franchise—makes the Accra project a logical next step.

“I watched it grow with more kids, more opportunities, educational pathway, and the growing network of clubs and schools. And now the next step is ready to be taken with the commitment from the Mansour family to build a great new facility for the Right to Dream students and staff. It makes me happy and even more hopeful for the future.”

Founded in 1999, RTD’s “books and boots” model couples full scholarships with elite coaching, producing professionals and scholars in equal measure.
Alumni now dot senior national teams and top leagues, with recent Black Stars call-ups underscoring the pipeline’s strength.

The new Ghana campus will consolidate classrooms, dormitories, performance labs and training pitches on one site, giving students the kind of infrastructure that has underpinned RTD’s newer hubs in Egypt and the United States.

While construction proceeds, the academy has pledged to retain its 127 Ghana-based staff and maintain all student support.

For Accam, the significance extends beyond first-team football to the wider impact on the men’s and women’s national programmes and the academy’s coaching ecosystem.

“To see how Right to Dream has impacted our Black Stars and Queens, from where it started to where it is today, is mind-blowing, but not a surprise to me. I’m sure there’s more to come. And it’s not just about players,” he noted, arguing that the upgraded facilities will deepen the talent pool across the board.

He pointed to the growing cadre of RTD alumni moving into leadership roles as coaches and educators—evidence, he said, that the system now reproduces excellence well beyond its original remit.

“I see many of my former friends and brothers from the academy who today are coaches – both at the RTD academy but also in clubs and abroad. The future looks bright,” Accam added, positioning the Accra project as a long-term bet on Ghanaian expertise.

The Mansour Group, chaired by Sir Mohamed Mansour, has paired the RTD investment with long-standing commitments in Ghana’s economy through Mantrac, its Caterpillar dealership, and a nationwide automotive network.

Officials have framed the new academy as part of a broader push to align sport, education and industry training—an approach the government says will keep more talent on structured pathways.

RTD, for its part, says the build will tighten links across its four academies and three professional clubs, ensuring Ghana remains central to its global map.

Accam’s message is ultimately about opportunity multiplied: a modern home that widens access, strengthens academics and sharpens performance, while keeping community values intact.

For an alumnus who turned a scholarship into a professional career and Black Stars caps, the calculation is simple—this is how you create more life-changing stories, faster and at scale.

Alan’s Campaign Lost 90 Percent of Agents, Claims Adorye

Alan Kyerematen
Alan Kyerematen

Hopeson Adorye has alleged that Alan Kyerematen’s independent presidential campaign was severely compromised after over 90 percent of their polling agents were denied accreditation during the 2024 elections.

The United Party’s Director of Field Operations claimed many representatives were turned away from polling stations despite following official procedures, contributing to what he described as widespread irregularities on election day. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Afternoon Ghana, Adorye suggested the rejections were part of a systematic effort to undermine Kyerematen’s campaign.

“We wrote letters and even had Alan sign them, but most of our agents were still rejected,” Adorye stated, alleging that the denials prevented proper monitoring of the electoral process in constituencies across Ghana.

The claim adds a new dimension to explanations for why Kyerematen’s Movement for Change ultimately secured only about 1.7 percent of votes in the December 7, 2024 presidential election, which was won convincingly by John Dramani Mahama with approximately 56 percent. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP garnered around 41 percent in second place.

Adorye’s allegation raises questions about electoral procedures and whether independent candidates faced systematic disadvantages in monitoring the polls. Ghana’s electoral regulations require all candidates to submit accreditation requests for polling agents through proper channels, including signatures from authorized party or campaign representatives.

The United Party official suggested these experiences have shaped their strategy going forward. He emphasized that the party is building stronger grassroots structures specifically to ensure proper poll monitoring in future elections, learning from what he characterized as the 2024 failures.

“Such experiences have influenced the United Party’s strategy to build stronger grassroots structures to monitor future polls,” Adorye explained, indicating the party views electoral observation as a critical component of their operations.

Beyond the polling agent allegations, Adorye also issued a warning about the United Party’s approach to political combat. He promised the party would defend itself vigorously against attacks while avoiding initiating conflicts.

“We won’t start fights, but if you attack us, we’ll respond and give you a double dose,” Adorye declared, signaling a more aggressive posture than some smaller parties have adopted in Ghana’s political landscape.

The combative rhetoric contrasts with the experiences of other third parties that have struggled to maintain visibility and organizational capacity between election cycles. Adorye specifically promised the United Party would not operate like “other small parties that go to sleep after elections.”

He vowed the party will run an active and visible political operation across the country, maintaining constant engagement rather than emerging only during campaign seasons. This sustained presence, Adorye suggested, will differentiate the United Party from previous third party efforts that faded after disappointing electoral performances.

However, the polling agent rejection claims remain unverified by independent sources. The Electoral Commission has not publicly addressed allegations of systematic denial of accreditation to Movement for Change agents, and no formal complaints appear to have been filed challenging the electoral process on these grounds.

During the 2024 campaign period, some Movement for Change polling agents reportedly complained about hunger and threatened to abandon their posts on election day, suggesting organizational challenges beyond just accreditation issues. The incident highlighted logistical difficulties faced by the independent campaign.

Adorye’s current role with the United Party represents a continuation of his support for Kyerematen after both men were expelled from the NPP in November 2023 for backing Alan’s independent bid instead of the party’s chosen candidate, Dr. Bawumia.

The former NPP communications operative has consistently rejected overtures to return to his former party, even after the NPP granted amnesty to suspended members in August 2025 as part of unity efforts ahead of the 2028 elections. Adorye famously declared he would rather join the NDC than return to the NPP.

Whether the polling agent rejection allegations will gain traction or prompt any investigation remains uncertain. The claims form part of a broader narrative from Kyerematen’s camp about facing systematic obstacles during their 2024 campaign, though concrete evidence supporting these assertions has not been publicly presented.

For now, Adorye’s focus appears directed toward ensuring the United Party avoids similar challenges in future elections by establishing robust structures for candidate representation at polling stations nationwide.

Bolgatanga Market Women Demand Access to 1,000 Locked Stores

0

Bolgatanga Market

Market women in Bolgatanga have launched appeals to authorities to reclaim approximately 1,000 locked stores and sheds at the Old Market that have remained unused for years despite being allocated to individuals.

The traders are calling on the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to immediately reallocate these facilities, arguing that the move would provide much needed economic opportunities and address chronic space constraints in the market.

Since the last quarter of the year, frustration has mounted among active traders who conduct business under harsh conditions while valuable market infrastructure sits idle behind padlocks. The women contend that those who secured allocations years ago have neither utilized the spaces nor relinquished them for others to use.

The situation has created what traders describe as a paradox: a market struggling with inadequate trading space while hundreds of allocated stores remain perpetually locked. Many of the women currently trade in open areas exposed to sun and rain, lacking basic shelter that the unused facilities could provide.

The appeal comes at a time when market allocation disputes have become increasingly common across Ghana. In Akyem Oda, the Central Market experienced similar controversies that delayed stall allocation for months after reconstruction was completed in November 2024. Court injunctions and disagreements over management agreements complicated what should have been a straightforward distribution process.

Bolgatanga’s market women argue their case rests on principles of fairness and economic efficiency. They maintain that market facilities are public resources meant to serve active traders, not sit unused as personal holdings.

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has not yet responded publicly to the appeals, leaving uncertainty about whether authorities will conduct a comprehensive review of allocations or establish criteria for reclaiming unused spaces.

Market infrastructure management remains a contentious issue in Ghana’s municipal governance. The challenge lies in balancing original allocations with the practical need to maximize use of limited commercial space, particularly in regional capitals like Bolgatanga where trading activities drive much of the local economy.

The women’s protest reflects broader tensions between allocation systems designed for orderly distribution and the economic realities faced by small-scale traders who depend on market access for their livelihoods.

Previous market disputes in Bolgatanga have occasionally escalated into confrontations between traders and authorities. In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, grain sellers clashed with police over relocation directives from the new market to the old market, resulting in arrests and physical altercations. That incident highlighted the sensitive nature of market management decisions in the municipality.

The current appeal, however, appears focused on negotiation rather than confrontation, with traders emphasizing their desire for dialogue with the assembly to find workable solutions.

For the market women, access to proper trading facilities represents more than convenience. It affects their ability to store goods securely, protect inventory from weather damage, and present their wares in conditions that attract customers and support dignified commerce.

The locked stores symbolize what traders view as wasted opportunity in a region where economic challenges make every commercial advantage significant. With Bolgatanga serving as the Upper East Regional capital and a major trading hub, efficient market utilization carries implications beyond individual livelihoods.

Whether the Municipal Assembly will act on the appeals remains to be seen, but the traders have made clear their determination to secure access to facilities they believe should serve active commerce rather than remain locked indefinitely.

The outcome could set precedents for how municipalities handle similar situations where allocated public market facilities go unused while demand for trading space remains high.

10 Confirmed LGBT Characters In The MCU, Ranked By How Likely They Are To Return

0

We can’t wait to see some of these brilliant LGBT characters return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and continue a huge up-tick in representation. Marvel has always been at the forefront of LGBT representation in its comic book stories, and, while the MCU took some time to catch up, recent stories have introduced some of the most exciting and powerful LGBT characters into live-action. Some of these characters unfortunately might not get the chance to return to the MCU, but it would be great to see them all back in action, and more could join them.

It’s been great to see the likes of Jeri Hogarth, Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Yukio, Joe Russo’s Avengers: Endgame character, Ayo, Nikki Ramos, Luke Jacobson, Mister Immortal, and more in the MCU. The animated X-Men ’97 series also brought the non-binary Morph into the multiverse, and the further exploration of mutant stories presents fantastic opportunities for more LGBT representation in the MCU’s future. Before then, however, we’d love to see any of these LGBT characters return, and these ten are perhaps the most likely candidates to get more adventures.

Marvel’s Voices: Pride (2022) #1 Review: Pride is a Year-Round Commitment

10) Korg

First seen in Thor: Ragnarok, we didn’t know much about Korg’s sexuality and backstory until his next major appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder in 2022. The Phase 4 movie saw him reveal that Kronans procreate when two men meet in a cave and hold hands until a child is born. Korg himself went through this process with Dwayne at the end of Love and Thunder, suggesting he may have a child in his next MCU appearance, should he return. Love and Thunder’s poor reception may have soured Taika Waititi’s relationship with Marvel, meaning Korg and Dwayne might not return.

9) Death

Aubrey Plaza brought the original Green Witch, ironically, to life in the MCU in Agatha All Along, and revealed that she had been in a same-sex relationship with Agatha Harkness. Death and Agatha had been lovers prior to the birth of the latter’s child, Nicholas Scratch, in 1750. Scratch’s casting was even based on Plaza’s appearance, suggesting he was intended to be her and Agatha’s shared child. Death eventually took Scratch several years later, ending her relationship with Agatha, and an intense kiss ultimately ended the witch’s life, but we hope Death will return to explore more of her story.

8) Aneka’s Midnight Angel

Marvel Studios will be revisiting Wakanda in Avengers: Doomsday and Black Panther 3, which opens the doors for Michaela Coel to return as Aneka, who was revealed to be in a same-sex relationship in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Aneka was a rogue Dora Milaje member who played by her own rules, which made her a prime candidate to become a Midnight Angel alongside Danai Gurira’s Okoye. The Midnight Angels are still experimental heroes, but could be developed further in Black Panther 3, giving us hope that Aneka will return as well as other LGBT members of the Dora Milaje.

7) Phastos

Chloé Zhao’s Eternals introduced an incredibly varied roster of heroes, each of whom brought much-needed representation to the MCU. Brian Tyree Henry’s Phastos, for instance, introduced one of the MCU’s newest LGBT characters, and Eternals also marked the debut of his husband, Ben, and their child. Eternals marked the MCU’s first on-screen same-sex kiss, which will go down in history as one of the franchise’s most poignant and progressive moments, though it’s a shock it took so long. The Eternals haven’t been confirmed to be returning, but we’d love to see Phastos and his teammates back in action soon.

6) Agatha Harkness

Aubrey Plaza’s Death wasn’t the only LGBT character developed in Agatha All Along, as the titular Agatha Harkness, portrayed brilliantly by Kathryn Hahn, also outed herself as not a “straight lady.” Agatha Harkness and Death had a long-running on-again, off-again romance, which culminated in a beautiful kiss of death that marked Agatha’s demise. Her return as a ghost and new adventure with Billy Maximoff makes it very likely we’ll see Agatha return to the MCU, perhaps in VisionQuest in 2026, which may reunite the Maximoff family – and we hope Agatha sticks around for years to come.

5) Valkyrie

Although it hasn’t actually been directly referenced in the MCU, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie is well-known to be a member of the LGBT community. Valkyrie first appeared in Thor: Ragnarok, and has been developed in the years since, becoming the “King” of New Asgard and a formidable warrior alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Thor. Romances between Valkyrie and the likes of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers have been teased, but we’re yet to see Valkyrie in an actual relationship. Her possible return to the MCU as the ruler of New Asgard means this could still be explored.

4) Wade Wilson’s Deadpool

Deadpool’s only romantic interests in live-action have, so far, all been female – most notably Morena Baccarin’s Vanessa. However, Marvel Comics has firmly established the Merc with a Mouth as pansexual, and Ryan Reynolds’ appearances as Wade Wilson have hinted at this also being the case in live-action. He makes continuous jokes, innuendos, and references to his expansive sexuality, which makes him one of the most popular LGBT characters in any franchise. After the immense success of Deadpool & Wolverine, there’s little doubt Deadpool will be returning to the MCU, and his sexuality could be explored in more detail when he does.

3) America Chavez

Originally from the Utopian Parallel, a dimension existing outside time and space, America Chavez has a very different outlook on life than many other characters from the MCU’s Earth 616. Her two mothers modelled a healthy and accepted same-sex relationship to the young America, and America herself has been in lesbian relationships in Marvel Comics, including those with Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye – played by Hailee Steinfeld in the MCU, Ramone Watts’ Alloy, and more. This hasn’t been explored by Xochitl Gomez in the MCU just yet, but given her multiversal power and new magic skills, America Chavez will surely be returning.

2) Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan

Agatha All Along was a true celebration of female and LGBT talent, as not only did Agatha Harkness and Death take center-stage, but the series also debuted the reincarnated form of Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan, the son of the Scarlet Witch. He inhabited the body of Joe Locke’s William Kaplan, and later started a same-sex relationship with Eddie. It’s unclear what the current status of their romance is after Maximoff’s experience on the Witches’ Road and him realizing his true identity, but it’s very likely Wiccan will return, so his romantic life could be explored more in the MCU’s future.

1) Loki & Sylvie

Retroactively one of the earliest LGBT characters introduced to the MCU is Tom Hiddleston’s Loki, who confirmed his bisexuality in Loki season 1, where his female variant, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, also revealed the same for herself. Marvel Comics’ Loki is gender fluid and bisexual, and this has been translated into the MCU beautifully, though it seems Loki’s current love interest is his own variant – narcissism be damned. Tom Hiddleston has already been announced to be returning in Avengers: Doomsday, and Sophia Di Martino has also teased her return, so it’ll be great to see these LGBT characters get more focus in the MCU’s future.

Nigeria and Kenya have emulated Ghana and have now joined the growing trend of African central banks moving to buy gold to boost their reserves and curb the free fall of their local currencies.

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia proposed the policy for Ghana, and three years ago, the government announced that the Bank of Ghana would begin purchasing gold to build the nation’s reserves in a move to curb over-reliance on foreign exchange and help stabilise the cedi.

Maguire Header Ends Manchester United’s Nine Year Anfield Drought

0

Manchester United
Manchester United

Harry Maguire’s late header delivered Manchester United their first victory at Anfield since 2016, a dramatic 2-1 triumph that condemned Liverpool to a fourth consecutive defeat and marked a potential turning point in Ruben Amorim’s tenure.

The captain powered home Bruno Fernandes’ cross in the 84th minute, just six minutes after Cody Gakpo had cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s sensational early opener. The win gives United back to back Premier League victories for the first time under Amorim and closes the gap to Liverpool to just two points.

Mbeumo stunned Anfield after only 62 seconds, finishing past Giorgi Mamardashvili following Amad Diallo’s pass to record the quickest Premier League goal scored at the ground between these fierce rivals. The strike came amid controversy, as Liverpool players protested that play should have been stopped for a head injury to Alexis Mac Allister, who went down after colliding with Virgil van Dijk in the buildup.

The early goal set the tone for what became a thrilling encounter between two sides experiencing contrasting fortunes. United executed their game plan effectively, getting the ball forward quickly and exploiting gaps in Liverpool’s defense through a mobile front three of Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Mason Mount.

Amorim’s tactical decision to leave Benjamin Sesko on the bench proved justified, with Mbeumo and Cunha particularly effective against Liverpool’s left side where Van Dijk and Milos Kerkez struggled throughout. The opening goal exposed defensive vulnerabilities that have plagued Liverpool during their recent slump, marking the seventh successive match without a clean sheet for Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool dominated possession with 63.8 percent and created numerous chances, but wasteful finishing and resolute defending kept them at bay for long periods. Gakpo hit the woodwork three times before finally beating Senne Lammens in the 78th minute, but his most glaring miss came with three minutes remaining when he planted a close range header wide of an open goal.

That squandered opportunity proved fatal. Moments later, Fernandes delivered an exquisite cross into the box and Maguire rose above Ibrahima Konate to power a header past Mamardashvili. The goal vindicated the much criticized defender’s place in the team and capped a composed performance that answered questions about his role in United’s squad.

Lammens produced several crucial saves on what was effectively his competitive debut, having impressed in United’s 2-0 win over Sunderland before the international break. The Belgian goalkeeper’s shot stopping kept Liverpool’s attacking threats neutralized during periods of sustained pressure.

For Liverpool, the defeat extends their worst run since 2014 and ends a 20 match unbeaten streak at Anfield. The champions now sit four points behind leaders Arsenal in third place, with their title defense unraveling amid defensive fragility and attacking inefficiency.

Mohamed Salah endured a frustrating afternoon, cutting an isolated figure as United’s defensive structure limited his opportunities. When presented with a clear chance at an acute angle, the Egyptian forward sliced his shot wide, summing up Liverpool’s profligacy in front of goal.

Slot made three substitutions in an attempt to spark his side, bringing on Hugo Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, and Curtis Jones, but United’s defensive organization held firm. The manager later acknowledged his team created enough chances to win but lamented their inability to convert opportunities.

The loss represents Liverpool’s third consecutive Premier League defeat, a collapse that has transformed their season from title contenders to a side searching for answers. Defensive issues at set pieces continue plaguing them, with Maguire becoming the latest player to exploit their aerial vulnerability.

United’s victory carries enormous significance beyond the three points. Breaking the Anfield curse removes a psychological barrier that has haunted the club for nearly a decade. The manner of the win, coming from behind after conceding an equalizer, demonstrates character and resilience that has been lacking in Amorim’s early months.

The Portuguese manager now has momentum, with consecutive league victories providing breathing space after an inconsistent start to his reign. United sit ninth with 13 points, suddenly within striking distance of European qualification spots.

This result could mark the moment when United’s season ignited and Liverpool’s imploded. For one set of fans, it’s the return of belief after years of suffering at their rivals’ fortress. For the other, it’s a crisis demanding immediate answers before their title ambitions disappear entirely.

The iconic rivalry delivered another memorable chapter, one that will be replayed endlessly in Manchester while causing nightmares on Merseyside. Sometimes football’s narratives shift in 90 minutes, and this was one of those occasions.

Beijing’s decision to remove all tariffs on products from African countries with which it maintains diplomatic relations is seen by analysts as a transformative policy shift that could unlock unprecedented access to a market of over 1.4 billion people and strengthen Africa’s participation in global value chains.

President Xi Jinping first announced the zero-tariff policy in June this year, describing it as a renewed commitment to shared development under the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) framework. The policy, reaffirmed during the fourth China –Africa Economic and Trade Expo in Changsha, reflects China’s intention to expand trade in a manner that supports industrialisation and inclusive growth across the continent.

The Province of Hunan has long been central to these developments. In 2018, officials from Ghana and China began exploring how Hunan could serve as a major gateway for African products into the Chinese market through early diplomatic and commercial engagements.

Those exchanges laid the groundwork for the establishment of the China–Africa Economic and Trade Expo in 2019, which has since become a key platform for promoting African exports and investment opportunities in China.

The Zero – tariff  policy was also a major focus of discussions during the recent state visit of President John Dramani Mahama to China at the invitation of President Xi.

During engagements in Beijing, both leaders underscored the strategic importance of the policy to the long-standing partnership between China and Ghana.

President Mahama says the zero-tariff measure demonstrates China’s confidence in its economic relations with Africa and provides a powerful incentive for Ghanaian exporters, agro-processors, and manufacturers. He commends the Government of China for what he described as “an act of solidarity that aligns with Ghana’s Reset Agenda and the 24-hour economy vision, which seek to promote industrial expansion and sustainable job creation”.

He notes that Ghana and China share six decades of diplomatic friendship, trust, and cooperation – a relationship that has matured into one of strategic partnership. The year 2025 marks the 65th anniversary of bilateral relations, a milestone that symbolises mutual respect and shared aspirations for progress.

Trade between the two countries continues to expand, with bilateral volumes reaching 11.8 billion dollars in 2024.

Between 2020 and 2024, China’s exports to Ghana rose by nearly 46 per cent, while Ghana’s exports to China increased by more than 11 per cent. Chinese investments, recorded by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, are projected to total about 3.9 billion dollars, covering more than 400 projects and creating thousands of jobs for Ghanaian youth.

President Mahama also highlights that frameworks such as the Belt and Road Initiative and FOCAC have contributed immensely to Ghana’s infrastructure, energy, and industrial capacity development.

He cites China’s transformation over the past four decades as a compelling example of how innovation, long-term planning, and disciplined policy execution can lift millions out of poverty and reposition economies for growth.

Analysts describe China’s decision to grant zero-tariff access to African products as a defining opportunity for the continent to shift from exporting raw materials to producing and trading value-added goods. They contend that this will require deliberate strategies by African governments to build strong supply chains, enhance standards, and empower local industries through effective implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

China’s experience demonstrates that transformative growth depends on purposeful national planning, institutional discipline, and efficient execution. For Africa, the removal of tariffs presents both a challenge and a chance – to build resilient manufacturing bases, create jobs, and secure a fairer place in global commerce.

As the partnership between China and Africa evolves, the zero-tariff policy stands as a reminder that opportunities must be matched with preparedness. The continent’s ability to translate this gesture into tangible development outcomes will depend on how effectively nations coordinate policies, support their private sectors, and invest in competitive production systems.

United Party Chief Welcomes Potential NPP Court Battle

Abubakar Saddique Boniface
Abubakar Saddique Boniface

National Chairman of the newly formed United Party, Abubakar Saddique Boniface, has declared he would welcome a legal challenge from the New Patriotic Party over his party’s adoption of the United Party name, dismissing any claims of exclusive ownership.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Boniface argued that the NPP cannot monopolize the name simply because of its historical association with the defunct United Party of the late 1950s. He drew a striking comparison to illustrate his point, saying the situation resembles how multiple people can share common names without disputes.

“In fact, I will be happy if they take it to court so they can tell me that as a Muslim, I can’t name my child Mohammed,” he said. “The fact that I name my child Mohammed doesn’t mean he’s a prophet. Everyone names their child Mohammed, but no one claims ownership of the name.”

Alan Kyerematen officially launched the United Party on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Accra’s Coconut Grove Hotel, describing it as a new era and a people’s movement to unite the nation beyond partisan divides. The party received its provisional certificate from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025.

The NPP has reportedly threatened legal action to prevent Kyerematen from using the United Party name. Dr Tia Mahama Kabiru, the Member of Parliament for Walewale, hinted at this possibility in an interview with GHone TV, stating that the party believes the name could be misleading and potentially damaging to the NPP’s brand.

The NPP, founded on July 28, 1992, traces its roots back to the Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition. Following Ghana’s independence in 1957, various opposition parties merged to form the United Party, a key predecessor to the modern NPP.

However, Boniface’s confidence stems from his belief that political party names, like personal names, cannot be exclusively owned. His Mohammed analogy underscores the argument that historical usage doesn’t translate to legal ownership, particularly when the original United Party ceased operations decades ago.

The United Party’s emergence represents a significant shake-up in Ghana’s political landscape, with the party positioning itself as a credible alternative to the traditional NPP and National Democratic Congress duopoly. Boniface, a former Member of Parliament for Madina on the ticket of the NPP, was announced as the inaugural chairman. He previously served as Minister of State at the Office of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The party has adopted the monarch butterfly as its emblem, symbolizing transformation and resilience, while its colors of yellow, black, and white represent Ghana’s gold wealth, the Black Star of Africa, and purity of purpose.

Boniface and several other United Party officials were expelled from the NPP in 2023 for supporting Kyerematen’s independent presidential bid instead of the party’s chosen candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. When the NPP recently offered amnesty to expelled members, Boniface dismissed it as “morally unjustified,” arguing that no wrongdoing had occurred to warrant forgiveness.

“They sacked us from the NPP, and now they want to offer amnesty? What crime did our leader commit? What crime did I commit? And now you are telling me you are giving me amnesty? No way,” Boniface said, likening the split to a final divorce.

The party has launched with ambitious promises, including Alan Kyerematen’s Vision 2040, also known as the Paradise Project, which aims to transform Ghana into an economic powerhouse in Africa within fifteen years through industrialization, private sector growth, youth employment, debt reduction, and good governance.

Whether the NPP will follow through with legal action remains unclear, but Boniface’s public challenge suggests the United Party is prepared for a courtroom battle over the name that both parties claim historical ties to.

Ghana Becomes First in West Africa to Host WRAP Technical Training

First Wrap Social Audit Training
First Wrap Social Audit Training

Ghana has become the first country in West Africa to host the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) Technical Assistance Training of Trainers workshop, marking a historic milestone in the region’s garment and textile industry development.

The two day workshop, held in Accra on June 11, 2025, was organized by the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry with support from GIZ under its Invest for Jobs programme. The initiative aims to build a pool of certified WRAP Technical Assistants who can help local factories meet international labour, environmental and ethical standards.

Delivering closing remarks at the event, Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry Sampson Ahi described the initiative as a strategic investment in Ghana’s future as a globally competitive, ethical and sustainable player in the apparel sector. He emphasized that the training would reduce reliance on foreign auditors and make certification more affordable and accessible for Ghanaian manufacturers.

Currently, Ghana faces significant challenges in achieving WRAP certification. Only two companies in Ghana are WRAP certified, with two more awaiting approval and nine in the preparatory stages. The high cost of foreign audits and gaps in workplace systems have traditionally made compliance difficult for local firms.

“This strategic training will reduce reliance on foreign auditors and facilitate the application process for WRAP certification,” Ahi noted, according to reports from the event. He added that the programme would enable Ghanaian factories to earn global trust and integrate into international supply chains.

The Deputy Minister underscored the government’s Vision 2033 for the textiles and garments industry, which targets a modern, sustainable and export ready sector worth over two billion US dollars and capable of creating over 150,000 direct jobs.

John Duti, team leader for Programme Invest for Jobs at GIZ, commended the relevance and growing impact of the textile and garment subsector in Ghana, highlighting its evolution from domestic tailoring practices to structured factory production.

The Deputy Minister encouraged participants to serve as torchbearers of transformation, positioning them as trailblazers who would shape the future of Ghana’s apparel exports. He urged them to use the knowledge gained to build connections and support other industry players.

By developing local WRAP certification expertise, Ghana is positioning itself to compete more effectively in global markets while reducing certification costs for manufacturers. The initiative represents a significant step in building ethical manufacturing capacity across West Africa, potentially opening pathways for neighbouring countries to follow Ghana’s lead.

The Minister for the Interior has been honoured with an honorary membership of the Ghana Optometric Association (GOA) in recognition of his continuous support for eye health initiatives in the country.

The honour was conferred during the Association’s 13th Annual General Meeting held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The GOA, which boasts a membership of about 500 professionals, pledged its continued collaboration with the Minister on his Annual Free Eye Screening Exercise.

The exercise, which takes place across all electoral areas in the Asawase Constituency, will this year be expanded to cover 12 additional constituencies in the Ashanti Region.

A commemorative plaque was presented to the Interior Minister for his dedicated partnership with the Association.

In his remarks, he expressed gratitude for the recognition, shared personal life experiences with the gathering, and encouraged members to put Ghana first in all their endeavours while serving humanity diligently.

In a light-hearted moment, the Prisons Service Band, which played at the dinner event, surprised the Minister with a birthday song to mark his special day.

Actress Eve Esin Makes Grand Entrance at Traditional Marriage, Carried on Man’s Neck

Heightened security at Elubo Border as over 1,500 Ivorians flee election violence

0

Western Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, has urged security officers stationed at the Elubo border to remain extra vigilant amid the ongoing influx of Ivorians fleeing election-related violence ahead of Côte d’Ivoire’s general election on October 25, 2025.

Over 1,500 Ivorians have reportedly crossed into Ghana seeking refuge from the unrest, prompting heightened border surveillance.

During a working visit to the Ghana–Ivory Coast border at Elubo, Mr. Nelson cautioned security personnel to monitor all entries carefully to prevent criminal elements from infiltrating the country.

“The situation is still very fluid. And so let’s keep our eyes on the inflows so that we can check the security side of things, so we don’t have any surprises any day in the future,” he said.

“The elections are coming on in October, as you know, and so as we approach the day, I believe that a lot more of them will come. So put yourself in readiness to receive them, and then, of course, with your eyes wide open, so we don’t get any criminals slipping through the system to pose a challenge to us as far as our security is concerned,” Mr. Nelson added.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration at the Elubo Command, DCI Joshua Krakue, also expressed concern about the difficulty in distinguishing between regular travellers and those seeking asylum.

“Rationally, people are taking precautions by leaving the country to find safe havens and then maybe after the elections, if everything is fine, they go back. But when they are coming through the border, they don’t present themselves as people who are coming to seek asylum,” he explained.

“They are coming as normal travellers. But then they end up maybe getting to the refugee camp to seek asylum. So, we have also noticed that the numbers are going up. But there isn’t a situation where people are carrying their bags to cross the border to go there,” DCI Krakue added.

Sissala West MP supports 450 first-year SHS students

0

Member of Parliament for Sissala West, Mohammed Sukparu, has assisted 450 newly admitted senior high school students from the constituency.

This donation comes in handy as parents are struggling to prepare their children for school amid a season of financial scarcity.

Each student received a mattress, a chop box, a bucket, and eight exercise books, aimed at easing the burden on families as they prepare their wards for school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony on behalf of Mohammed Sukparu, the District Chief Executive, Adams Fuseini Gbene said the initiative was motivated by the struggles of parents in his constituency, many of whom depend solely on seasonal farming.

“We know how difficult this period is for our parents. This support is meant to help our children begin school with dignity and confidence. Education remains the key to transforming Sissala West, and no child should stay home because their parents cannot afford the basics”, he said.

Speaking on behalf of her fellow beneficiaries, Gloria Banjniberu, a student from Fielimua T.I. Ahmadiyya Basic School who has gained admission to Lawra Senior High School, said, “The items received, including mattresses, trunks, buckets, and exercise books, would greatly ease the financial burden on parents and improve students’ comfort in school”.

For most families in this predominantly farming area, the school reopening period coincides with the pre-harvest season. A time when farm produce is still on the field and cash is hard to come by. Parents often find themselves torn between their desire to educate their children and the economic limitations of their rural livelihoods.

WAC stun ten-man Asante Kotoko in Accra

0

A ten-man Asante Kotoko suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Wydad Athletic Club on Sunday afternoon.

The Porcupine Warriors tasted a narrow defeat to the Moroccan giants in the first leg tie of their 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup game at the Accra Sports Stadium.

A second-half strike Joseph Bakasu secured a precious away victory for the WAC ahead of the reverse leg fixture next weekend in Morocco.

Asante Kotoko had a bright start with coach Karim Zito opting for 4-2-3-1 system, with Inusah and Peter Amidu Acquah supporting Albert Amoah in attack.

In-form Albert Amoah had the first real chance of the game but failed to connect from a Samba Oniel flick inside the box. Wydad responded swiftly, but defender Oniel was alert to clear the danger.

The home side came close again in the 31st minute of the game when Amidu Acquah’s strike went narrowly wide.

However, WAC also threatened through Lorch, only for goalkeeper Mohammed Camara to pull off a brilliant save. The Guinean shot-stopper was called into action moments later to deny Aziz Ki from close range as the first half ended in a score-less draw.

Two minutes after the recess, Joseph Bakasu superbly silenced the fans of Asante Kotoko with his brilliant strike from a corner-kick effected by Lorch.

Asante Kotoko’s woes deepen when Camara Mohammed was sent off for unsportsmanlike behavior, when he handed the ball outside his box in the 49th minute of the game.

The situation forced the Porcupine Warriors that introduce Aziz Dari as his replacement while they played over 40 minutes as a manless side.

Asante Kotoko nearly found the equalizer from a free kick in the 65th minute, but Antwi’s effort sailed over the bar.

Wydad pressed for a second, forcing Dari into crucial saves to keep Kotoko in the game. Substitute Donzo Morifing thought he had equalized late on, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

Kotoko had a late scare when Lord Amoah cleared a goal-bound header off the line in the 85th minute, preventing a second goal for the visitors.

Despite Wydad’s dominance in the closing stages, the game ended 1-0 in favor of the Moroccans.

Asante Kotoko will travel to Casablanca for the second leg tie of the 2025–26 CAF Confederation Cup next weekend, the winner will secure a spot in the group stage of the competition.

Why we keep failing and the framework that can fix It

0

Across the continent, governments and corporations are rushing to digitise from e-governance platforms to online banking, from smart agriculture to digital classrooms.

Yet behind the optimism lies a sobering truth: up to 70% of digital transformation (DT) projects fail (Tabrizi et al., 2019; Gartner, 2018).

The reason? Not a lack of technology but a failure of leadership, culture, and engagement.

Africa’s digital revolution is not failing because of bandwidth or budgets, but because of people. Digital transformation is not a one-time software installation.

It is a complete rethinking of how organisations create value in a digital world (Matt et al., 2015).

Unfortunately, many African institutions still treat it as a procurement exercise, rather than a cultural and strategic evolution, similar to the preference of Metaverse sport the world over (Atta-Woode & Gangai, 2025).

According to Buvat et al. (2018), 65% of global firms lack digital leadership capacity, a challenge even more acute in Africa.

In many organisations, decision-making is top-heavy, change-averse, and disconnected from the workforce.

The result is a wave of failed projects and wasted investment.

From Accra to Nairobi, digital platforms have been launched with fanfare only to fall silent months later. Employees resist because they see digitalisation as a replacement rather than empowerment (Sherin, 2023).

When people are left out of digital change, technology becomes a threat instead of a tool. A rigid corporate culture, combined with poor communication, has made digital transformation in Africa more of a slogan than a success story.

My recent study, “Innovative Digital Transformation Strategy: A Conceptual Framework of Leadership, Culture, and Engagement,” suggested a model grounded in Dynamic Capabilities Theory (DCT).

Introduced by Teece, Pisano, and Shuen (1997), this model argues that an organisation’s survival in rapidly changing environments depends on its ability to sense, seize, and reconfigure resources to maintain competitiveness. In African context, our organisational leadership must cultivate these three critical abilities:

1. Sensing – Detecting emerging digital opportunities and threats.

2. Seizing – Acting decisively through visionary leadership and resource alignment.

3. Reconfiguring – Adapting internal processes and culture to sustain competitiveness.

This makes DCT not only relevant but also essential for African organisations facing volatile economic, social, and technological conditions. Africa’s digital transformation journey differs fundamentally from that of Western economies.

The continent’s challenges includes limited infrastructure, institutional fragility, fluctuating policies, and workforce skill gaps. Africa needs flexible strategies for digital transformation and not static solutions.

Dynamic Capabilities Theory provides exactly that: a model for continuous adaptation and renewal rather than one-off reform for Africa’s organisations in turbulent markets where yesterday’s solutions rarely solve tomorrow’s problems.

In Ghana, for example, the government’s digital ID initiative, e-levy systems, and paperless port reforms show how policy and technology evolve amid uncertainty.

Only institutions that can reconfigure quickly survive such disruption. DCT provides a framework to guide this adaptation by focusing on learning, leadership agility, and resource alignment, all critical for sustainability (Teece, 2018; Eisenhardt & Martin, 2000).

Furthermore, African firms are not just adopting technology; they are leapfrogging entire stages of development moving from analog to mobile or AI-driven systems in one leap (Ndemo & Weiss, 2017). Such rapid, non-linear growth requires what DCT calls dynamic reconfiguration, the ability to redesign structures, retrain workers, and reallocate resources in real time (Ambrosini & Bowman, 2009).

The theory also resonates with African cultural contexts, where informal networks, social trust, and adaptive leadership play crucial roles in business success. Unlike rigid Western frameworks, DCT accommodates contextual learning and improvisation traits deeply embedded in African entrepreneurship and governance systems (Loonam et al., 2018; Okpo, Ikediashi & Afolabi, 2023).

Why African Organizations Need This Model

1. Builds Leadership Agility – Leaders gain the foresight to anticipate digital trends and align them with strategic goals (Kotter, 2000).

2. Promotes Cultural Adaptability – Organizational culture shifts from rigid hierarchies to collaborative, learning-driven environments (Mergel et al., 2019).

3. Drives Employee Engagement – Workers become contributors to innovation rather than victims of automation (Kane et al., 2018; Gallup, 2021).

4. Sustains Competitiveness – Continuous learning and flexibility become built-in, ensuring survival in volatile digital markets (Teece, 2018).

Deloitte (2020) found that companies emphasizing engagement during transformation recorded faster adoption rates and higher morale, while adaptive cultures (Kocak & Pawlowski, 2022) increased success rates across industries.

The Leadership Imperative

Africa’s digital future depends not on coding, but on leadership courage and competence. Digital transformation must be led by leaders who can communicate, connect, and collaborate.

They must:

• Understand technology as a business strategy, not a gadget.

• Build inclusive cultures where every employee understands their role in change.

• Invest in re-skilling and knowledge sharing.

• Encourage open dialogue and cross-functional innovation.

Leadership agility means the ability to pivot quickly and learn continuously-the hallmark of successful digital leaders.

Governments should create national digital leadership programs to build capacity within ministries, state enterprises, and academia. Universities must integrate digital leadership and transformation frameworks into their business and public administration curricula.

The time is now more especially, where Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionising our way of work and the technological space across the world. Africa is already behind in the adaptation of AI and automations.

African success stories such as Rwanda’s e-governance, Kenya’s fintech ecosystem, and Ghana’s digital ID system show it is possible when leadership, culture, and engagement align, as technology alone does not transform institutions; people do.

The Way Forward

Africa is at a digital crossroads. With its youthful population and growing internet access, the continent holds immense potential.

Nevertheless, potential without transformation is inertia. The proposed framework offers a roadmap to convert digital ambition into sustainable success through leadership that senses change, cultures that adapt, and employees who engage. Africa does not need another app, it needs adaptive leaders and digital cultures that can reconfigure and rise.

The truth is uncomfortable: Africa’s digital revolution is not failing because of bandwidth or budgets, but because of people and our inability to acknowledge and appreciate our circumstances and adopt a digital transformation tailored towards our leadership style, inherent cultural traits, and the resources needed for such technological advancement.

Not every process need to be digitalised, and not every organisation or entity needs digital transformation.

Popular Bauchi traditional singer d!es after alleged poisoning

A traditional singer, John Zuya, popularly known as John Mai Molo, has reportedly d!ed after an alleged poisoning incident in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The late entertainer, who was renowned for his witty performances and traditional songs, was said to have returned from Lagos on October 16, where he had recently performed, before the tragic incident occurred.

According to reports, Zuya began to show signs of distress before collapsing after he consumed suspected poisoned food.

A fellow singer and close associate of the deceased, Emma Wakili, who confirmed the development on Facebook page said that Zuya passed away early Saturday morning, October 18, 2025.

“It is confirmed that John Zuya passed on this morning at 7:00 a.m. His body has been placed in the mortuary as we move forward with the investigation,” Wakili said.

Witnesses said the late singer was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, where doctors confirmed him d3ad.

His body has been deposited at the hospital’s morgue for an autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of d3ath.

Meanwhile, fans and cultural enthusiasts have flooded social media with tributes, mourning the death of the singer and demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his d3ath.

NUGS General Secretary declares 2025 elections invalid over constitutional breaches

0

The General Secretary of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Bismark Yaw Ofori, has declared the union’s 2025 elections invalid, citing serious constitutional breaches.

In a statement released on Sunday, October 19, the same day elections were scheduled to begin, Mr. Ofori said the entire electoral process lacked legitimacy due to two major violations of the NUGS Constitution.

The first issue, according to him, was the failure to validate the voter register. He explained that the constitution requires both the General Secretary and the National President to sign the voter register before it can be used.

However, Mr. Ofori said he was not asked to co-sign the register, making it unconstitutional and null.

The second breach he cited was the failure to hold the mandatory Conference on Education, also known as the Responsible Mining Conference, which the NUGS Constitution says must take place on the second day of Congress. He stressed that this omission automatically removes all elected national officers from office, except the Administrative Secretary.

Mr. Ofori stated that because of these violations, all national executive positions, including that of the President, are effectively vacant. He urged the Judicial Board to step in immediately to interpret the constitution and resolve the crisis.

Calling for calm, he advised all candidates and delegates to reject the election process and asked the Committee of Bloc Heads to assume temporary leadership to restore order.

Mr. Ofori concluded by reminding future leaders of NUGS to uphold transparency, inclusivity, and respect in decision-making, warning against sidelining elected officers.

The future of the 2025 NUGS Congress now remains uncertain as the union awaits a formal response from its Judicial Board.

I’ve never criticised Mahama over ambulance case – Kwamena Ahwoi

0

Former Local Government Minister Professor Kwamena Ahwoi has issued a public disclaimer denying reports circulating online that falsely attribute comments to him regarding President John Dramani Mahama and a recent legal decision by the Attorney-General.

In a statement released on Sunday, Prof. Ahwoi described the reports as “false and misleading,” emphasizing that he has not made any public statements or media appearances related to the matter.

The reports in question suggest that Prof. Ahwoi echoed remarks allegedly made by Mr. Kwamena Duncan, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during a discussion on Peace FM. According to the claims, Prof. Ahwoi allegedly questioned President Mahama’s integrity over the Attorney-General’s decision to withdraw an appeal concerning the dismissed ambulance procurement case.

Prof. Ahwoi firmly denied the attribution, stating, “I have neither appeared on Peace FM nor made any such comments.”

He called on the general public to disregard the reports and treat them as entirely unfounded.

19-year-old man struck dead by lightning at Dodi-Papase

0

A 19-year-old man, Justice Berina Komla, from Dodi-Kpomkpa in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has died after being struck by lightning at Dodi-Papase on Friday, October 17, 2025.

Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred while Justice was uprooting a palm tree on a farmland in the area.

A local traditional leader, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on condition of anonymity, said the deceased was removing his third palm tree when lightning suddenly struck him.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the thunderclap was unusually loud and frightening, followed by shouts from those nearby who later found Justice lying motionless on the ground.

As of Saturday afternoon, October 18, his body remained at the scene, awaiting traditional rites before it could be moved.

The traditional leader hinted that the incident may not have been a mere act of nature, suggesting that the thunder god, Zakadza, could have been invoked.

In some communities across the Volta and Oti regions, Zakadza is believed to possess the power to strike wrongdoers dead when invoked through traditional rituals.

According to the leader, a delegation had been sent to consult a spiritualist to confirm whether the incident had a spiritual cause and to determine the purification and burial rites required.

By custom, the body cannot be touched or buried until the prescribed rituals are performed, especially in cases suspected to involve spiritual intervention.

The mysterious nature of the incident has thrown the Dodi-Papase community into fear and confusion, with some residents calling for calm while awaiting the outcome of the traditional consultations.

Local authorities are yet to issue an official statement, and it remains unclear whether the police will launch an investigation.

The tragic event has once again stirred discussions about the intersection between traditional beliefs and natural occurrences in rural Ghana, where lightning strikes are often interpreted through spiritual lenses.

From Kumasi to Dallas: Lalas Abubakar’s Rise as a Ghanaian MLS Star

0

From Mohammed Salisu at Monaco to Alexander Dijku at Spartak Moscow to Jerome Opoku at İstanbul Başakşehir, we’re seeing quite a few Ghanaian center backs impose their skills overseas, and yet another player who’s doing so is Alhassan “Lalas” Abubakar.

Born in Kumasi, Abubakar was raised in Accra and started playing for the University of Ghana as well as Ghana’s U20s before eventually attracting a scholarship offer from the University of Dayton.

Abubakar headed across the Atlantic and started a new adventure in the United States, where he has remained ever since, impressing for the Flyers before eventually prompting Columbus Crew to select him with the fifth pick of the 2017 MLS SuperDraft.

It was here in Ohio where Abubakar launched his MLS career, making 31 appearances before dropping down the pecking order following the exit of Gregg Berhalter and the arrival of new manager Caleb Porter.

Desperate for regular minutes, Abubakar decided to make the move to Colorado Rapids in May 2019, initially on loan but soon made permanent.

Abubakar excelled in Colorado, winning the club’s Defender of the Year award in his first two seasons and showcasing his excellent reactions and bulky physicality. And similarly to others like Sergio Ramos and Renato Paiva, Abubakar impressed in terms of his goal-scoring ability, racking up 9 goals and 2 assists in 136 appearances before eventually departing for FC Dallas in December 2024. But whilst Abubakar has been gone for over a decade, he still makes an effort to return to Ghana every offseason and spend time with his family and friends.

“It hasn’t been easy, especially with my family,” stated Abubakar in an exclusive Citi Sports interview. “Now that my mom can come and go, it’s easier. But also, I’m a Muslim, and we do Ramadan and Eid, so I always say that those are the times of the year that I miss Ghana the most. Since I came here 11 years ago, I’ve never had an experience like doing Ramadan in Ghana, I’ve never had that. So that’s what I miss most, especially during Ramadan, you want to be around family and celebrate, and I haven’t done that since I was living in Ghana.”

Abubakar has already played over 200 times in MLS and helped Columbus and Colorado reach the playoffs, and he’s looking to do the same with FC Dallas, who sit 10th in the table, level on 38 points with ninth-placed San Jose, two points behind Colorado, one above Real Salt Lake, and two above Houston Dynamo. Unlike the other sides (apart from Salt Lake), Dallas have three games left to be played, rather than two.

They’ll be seeking to finish in the top nine spots and qualify for the playoffs, and they’ll be counting on Abubakar to continue his impressive performances in defense. After playing the full 90 in 10 straight matches, Abubakar has come off the bench in Dallas’ last three matches.

He’s played 26 times in MLS and two in the U.S. Open Cup, and whether coming off the bench or starting, he’s delivered with consistently impressive displays. It is evident that he has found the right environment in Texas and is enjoying himself both on and off the pitch.

“I like to get some rest, watch soccer games, and play video games at home, I love playing Call of Duty with my teammates, we’ll get on and chat and then play together. I just love it, especially when my mom wasn’t here, my brother and I would just get rest after I got home from practice, and I’d just hop on to play some video games afterwards. Now that my mom is here, sometimes, we’ll go to the mall on the weekends, but yeah, I don’t do too much.”

At nearly 31 years of age, Lalas Abubakar still has several objectives left to be ticked off his bucket list, like winning the first trophy of his professional career and earning a maiden call-up to the Black Stars’ senior team. But whilst his number-one priority is leading Dallas to the postseason and challenging for their first-ever MLS Cup title, he’s also focused on bringing his daughter and wife to the States and starting a new life together.

“Initially I was living alone, but my mom is here to visit, and my brothers moved here with me. However, my wife and my daughter are still back home in Ghana. My daughter is a US citizen, but my wife, I’m still working on her immigration stuff. Hopefully, they can join me very soon. My daughter is one year and two months old and has started walking already. The last time I saw her was December, and it’s been hard, man. I always tell my teammates, ‘My biggest fear is when I go home in the off-season and I try to hug her and she runs away from me, that will break my heart if she doesn’t remember me, but I gotta deal with it.”

The video of Daddy Lumba praising the tranquillity of his home life with Odo Broni surfaced amid an ongoing court case between her and his first wife, Akosua Serwaa.

Following the highlife legend’s death on July 26, 2025, a heated debate broke out on social media over which of his two wives should be recognised as his legitimate spouse and carry out widowhood rites.

She sought a declaration that she was Daddy Lumba’s sole legal wife and for his ongoing funeral plans to be halted.

The legal battle has sparked a social media debate, with fans of both women insisting their favourite should be seen as Daddy Lumba’s sole legitimate spouse.

10 Avengers Movies We Want to See After Doomsday & Secret Wars

0

Marvel Studios will surely adapt more comic storylines into Avengers movies after Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars bring Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a close. Doomsday and Secret Wars will the be fifth and sixth Avengers movies in the MCU, following on from The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Secret Wars will mark the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga, and is expected to set the stage for more superhero teams, such as the X-Men, but Marvel Studios will surely bring the Avengers back, too.

The MCU’s Avengers movies have already adapted the titular team’s battle against Ultron, Thanos’ quest for the Infinity Stones, and the Avengers’ battle against each other in Captain America: Civil War – a pseudo-Avengers movie. There are many more Avengers-focused storylines from Marvel Comics that we would love to see adapted into live-action, however. In the wake of Doomsday and Secret Wars, it would make a lot of sense for some of these stories to be Marvel Studios’ next Avengers movies.

10) Avengers vs. X-Men

Recent speculation has suggested that Doomsday and Secret Wars may adapt elements of Marvel Comics’ Avengers vs. X-Men event from 2012. This story pitted the two titular superhero teams against each other amid the emergence of the Phoenix Force. While it would be great to see the MCU’s Avengers and returning X-Men characters battle in Phase 6, we’d much rather see the MCU’s official X-Men team engage in a more comic-accurate retelling of this event. Avengers vs. X-Men changed the landscape of the Marvel Universe forever, so could do the same for the MCU.

9) Siege

Dealing with the climax of the Dark Reign event, 2010’s Siege saw Loki manipulate Norman Osborn and his Dark Avengers to lead an all-out war against Asgard – then existing on Earth. This contributed to some of Marvel Comics’ most brutal moments, and these would be brilliant to see in the MCU. It’s very possible that Norman Osborn will finally take his place after Secret Wars, which could lead to the establishment of the Dark Avengers, and bring us straight into an adaptation of Siege, especially after Secret Invasion already teased a war against the MCU’s extraterrestrials.

8) Avengers Forever

Throughout the entire history of the MCU, Rick Jones has been one of the biggest Marvel Comics characters that we’ve been missing. 1998’s Avengers Forever saw Jones travel through the past, present, and future to form a new Avengers team capable of battling one of the Kang the Conqueror’s variants, Immortus. This story would have fit perfectly into the MCU’s Multiverse Saga, with Jones building a team of multiversal variants of iconic heroes. If not in the Multiverse Saga, however, Avengers Forever could still work in Phase 7 or beyond, especially if Kang and his variants return as central antagonists.

7) Original Sin

In the wake of his disappointing runs in Secret Invasion and The Marvels, adapting 2014’s Original Sin would be the perfect way to bring Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury back to the MCU. The animated What If…? series introduced Uatu the Watcher, and its Uatu’s death that forms the backdrop for Original Sin. Fury brings the Avengers back together to investigate Uatu’s murder, but they experience huge trauma over what they see in the Watcher’s extracted eyes. This would present some huge conflict and psychological challenges to the Avengers of the MCU, and this could finally bring Uatu into live-action.

6) Empyre

One of Marvel Comics’ more recent crossover events, 2020’s Empyre brought together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, and more to hold back an epic invasion from both the Kree and the Skrulls. Where Secret Invasion failed, an Empyre adaptation – especially as a full-blown Avengers movie – could succeed in spades. This could be set up if Teddy Altman’s Hulkling makes his MCU debut soon, and the introduction of his partner, Billy Maximoff’s Wiccan, makes this likely. Empyre could gloss over Marvel Studios’ past mistakes and mark one of the MCU’s most game-changing events.

5) West Coast Avengers

This may not necessarily be a specific event from Marvel Comics that can be adapted for the MCU, but it would be brilliant to see an upcoming Avengers movie bring together the West Coast Avengers. Several members of the team – or prospective members based in Los Angeles – have recently debuted in the MCU. It would be great to see Tatiana Maslany’s She-Hulk, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, and more come together as the West Coast Avengers. The team formed in Marvel Comics to expand the Avengers’ influence across the nation, so the same could occur in the MCU.

4) Kang Dynasty

Back in 2022, Avengers: Doomsday was originally announced as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. This would have marked the culmination of storylines introduced in Loki and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, with Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror and his villainous variants posing a huge threat to Earth and the Avengers. Majors’ arrest and conviction caused Marvel to change direction very quickly, but it’s possible that Kang could be recast and The Kang Dynasty could be revisited in the MCU’s future, allowing the 2001 event from Marvel Comics to finally be brought to the screen.

3) Midnight Sons

Similarly to the West Coast Avengers, the MCU’s Midnight Sons could form in a future Avengers movie. Several supernatural heroes and antiheroes have recently been introduced to the MCU, clearly teasing the debut of the Midnight Sons, but it still remains to be seen who will be included in the team’s first line-up. Marvel Comics’ Midnight Sons first formed in 1992 to battle Lilith, Mother of All Demons – the perfect antagonist for a supernatural-themed Avengers movie. We’d love to see Doctor Strange, Blade, Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Jennifer Kale, and many more join the MCU’s Midnight Sons.

2) Young Avengers

Several new superhero teams have been speculated to be coming to the MCU in recent years, and, among the West Coast Avengers and the Midnight Sons, the Young Avengers have been one of the most-rumored. The Marvels saw Ms. Marvel approach Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye with the prospect of bringing together the Young Avengers, and the debuts of Wiccan, Speed, Stature, America Chavez, Ironheart, and more tease the team’s first line-up. We still don’t know when the team will form, but it would be fantastic to get a Young Avengers movie in the MCU after Doomsday and Secret Wars.

1) Civil War II

We already got the battle between Captain America and Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War back in 2016, so now we’re waiting for Iron Man to go toe-to-toe with Captain Marvel in an adaptation of Civil War II. Released in Marvel Comics in 2016, Civil War II saw Iron Man and Captain Marvel form teams to fight after a troubling prediction from the Inhuman Ulysses Cain. Avengers: Secret Wars has been confirmed to be “resetting” the MCU, which means a new Iron Man could debut, Inhumans could be introduced, and Civil War II’s storyline could be perfectly set up.

Young Senegalese goalkeeper found dead in Ghana

0

A PROMISING young footballer has been tragically murdered by kidnappers after his family struggled to raise enough money to pay the ransom.

The Senegalese football community is in mourning, after the death of 18-year-old Cheikh Toure was confirmed on Saturday.

The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs of Senegal released a statement announcing the murder of the young goalkeeper, after he was found lifeless in Ghana.

Cheikh had trained at the Esprit Foot Yeumbeul.

He was kidnapped after being tricked by a group of armed extortionists, who made him believe he was attending a trial to join a professional club.

The scam led to Cheikh being held hostage by his captors, who then demanded a ransom from his family in exchange for his release.

Unfortunately, the family’s efforts were in vain, and the criminals carried out their threat and killed the teen.

The Senegalese authorities have opened an investigation into Cheikh’s kidnapping and death in collaboration with the Ghanaian police.

The joint task force hopes to shed light on the exact circumstances of the tragedy.

Cheikh’s body is currently in the process of being repatriated to Senegal, French Football Weekly reported.

In a public statement, a spokesperson from The Ministry, expressed its “deep compassion to the grieving family”.

The spokesperson said the investigation was being carried out “with the greatest attention and priority”.

The authorities have strongly urged clubs, supervisors and parents to “exercise extra caution in the face of unverified offers of tests or transfers abroad”.

A press release also said that young athletes in Senegal should “always go through official circuits and obtain information from the sports authorities before any trip”.

Cheikh’s death comes after a teenage goalkeeper died from a blow to the head during a Spanish league match.

Sarkozy Set to Become First Modern European Leader Jailed

0

Nicolas Sarkozy
Nicolas Sarkozy

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy will walk through the gates of Paris’s La Santé Prison on Tuesday, October 21, becoming the first modern European Union head of state to serve actual time behind bars following his conviction for criminal conspiracy in the Libya campaign funding scandal.

The 70 year old was informed of his incarceration date on Monday, October 13, when he appeared at the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office to finalize the details. Despite having already filed an appeal, Sarkozy must begin serving his five year sentence immediately because the court ruled for provisional execution, citing the offenses as being of “exceptional gravity”.

The sentence marks a spectacular fall from grace for a man who once styled himself as France’s “hyper-president.” Sarkozy was found guilty on September 25 of criminal conspiracy for allowing his associates to seek campaign funding from late Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi’s regime for his victorious 2007 presidential bid. However, the court acquitted him of three other charges, including passive corruption and illegal campaign financing, saying there’s no evidence the money actually ended up in his campaign.

“If they absolutely want me to sleep in prison, I will sleep in prison, but with my head held high,” Sarkozy declared after the verdict, his voice thick with anger. In a recent interview with La Tribune Dimanche, he said he’d already packed his bags and feels calm, planning to spend his time writing a book.

For security reasons, Sarkozy will likely be placed in solitary confinement or La Santé’s so-called “VIP wing,” a unit reserved for vulnerable prisoners whose safety might be compromised among the general population. His nine square meter cell will include a cooking hob, fridge, television, shower, toilet, and a fixed telephone line allowing calls to approved numbers only. He’ll be permitted visitors three times per week and will take daily walks alone in a small courtyard.

The Libya case traces its origins to shocking claims in 2011 when Gaddafi himself and Libyan media alleged that his regime had secretly funneled millions of euros into Sarkozy’s campaign. Prosecutors argued Sarkozy struck a corrupt pact in 2005, when he was interior minister, promising to help rehabilitate Gaddafi’s international image after Libya was blamed for the 1988 Lockerbie bombing and the 1989 Niger plane bombing. The irony wasn’t lost on observers: Sarkozy later put France at the forefront of NATO air strikes in 2011 that helped topple the regime, and Gaddafi was captured and killed by rebels.

Key evidence included Franco-Lebanese businessman Ziad Takieddine’s 2016 filmed testimony that he delivered suitcases of cash from Tripoli to Sarkozy’s entourage, though he later retracted the statement in 2020, prompting accusations of witness tampering. In a dramatic twist, Takieddine died of a heart attack in Beirut just two days before the verdict.

Sarkozy’s right hand man, Claude Guéant, was sentenced to six years, while former minister Brice Hortefeux received two years. Sarkozy was also fined €100,000 and banned from holding public office.

This marks the latest chapter in a remarkable series of legal troubles for the conservative politician. Last year, France’s highest court upheld his conviction for bribery and influence peddling, sentencing him to one year of house arrest with an electronic bracelet, which he wore for three months before being granted conditional release in May. He’s also been convicted in another campaign financing case over his failed 2012 reelection bid, receiving six months in prison with another six suspended.

Following his corruption conviction, Sarkozy was stripped of France’s highest distinction, the Legion of Honour.

He’ll be the first French president imprisoned since Philippe Pétain, the Nazi collaborationist head of the Vichy regime during World War II. La Santé has housed some notorious figures over its 158 year history, including Venezuelan terrorist Carlos the Jackal, bank robber Jacques Mesrine, and Panamanian dictator Manuel Noriega. More recently, Jean-Luc Brunel, a close associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, was found dead in his cell there in 2022 while awaiting trial.

Once incarcerated, Sarkozy’s legal team can immediately request his release from the appeals court, which will have up to two months to decide. He could be freed under judicial supervision or placed under house arrest with an ankle monitor, depending on the court’s decision.

Public opinion appears divided but tilting toward support for the sentence. An Elabe poll found 61% of French citizens believe the imprisonment is fair, while 38% consider it unjust. The decision has drawn criticism from the political right, with far right leader Marine Le Pen warning it’s “a grave danger” that courts are opting for immediately enforceable rulings rather than waiting for appeals. She knows this all too well, having herself been handed an immediate five year ban from public office in March over EU funds embezzlement charges.

Sarkozy’s son, Louis, has reportedly called on supporters to gather outside the family home Tuesday morning to show solidarity. Meanwhile, Judge Nathalie Gavarino has received death threats since issuing the verdict, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to condemn the intimidation as unacceptable.

Despite his legal woes, Sarkozy remains an influential figure in conservative circles. He recently met with his former protégé, newly appointed Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, and continues to be consulted by key political figures. His wife, model and singer Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, has stood by him throughout, and she’ll likely be among the first to visit him in La Santé, making her possibly the first former supermodel to enter the notorious prison.

According to Le Figaro, Sarkozy held a farewell gathering Wednesday evening with about 100 former collaborators, including the current Élysée Palace secretary general, Emmanuel Moulin.

For a man who once wielded immense power from the Élysée Palace, Tuesday will bring a stark new reality. The cold steel of a prison cell door, a nine square meter space, and the monotonous routine of solitary confinement. But if Sarkozy’s defiant words are any indication, he intends to face it all with the same combative spirit that defined his presidency, convinced he’s the victim of a political vendetta rather than justice being served.

Whether France’s justice system is working as it should or has overstepped its bounds will likely be debated long after Sarkozy completes whatever portion of this sentence he ultimately serves. What’s certain is that Tuesday marks an unprecedented moment in modern European political history.

Wydad Casablanca beat Kotoko 1–0 in Accra to snatch crucial first-leg advantage

0

Wydad will be the second Moroccan side to win on Ghanaian soil since 2005 Wydad will be the second Moroccan side to win on Ghanaian soil since 2005

Wydad Casablanca secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Asante Kotoko in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite a dominant first-half display from the Porcupine Warriors, who controlled possession but lacked cutting edge in the final third, it was Wydad who created the better chances.

Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was called into action several times, producing key saves to deny the visitors and keep the game goalless at the break.

The deadlock was finally broken two minutes into the second half when Thembinkosi Lorch’s corner found Joseph Bakasu, who fired home from close range to give Wydad the lead.

Kotoko’s day went from bad to worse shortly after when goalkeeper Camara was sent off in the 50th minute, leaving the hosts to finish the game with ten men.

Wydad failed to make their numerical advantage count but held firm defensively to secure a vital away win.

The result marks Wydad as only the second Moroccan side to win on Ghanaian soil since FAR Rabat in 2005.

Kotoko, who had previously won seven of their eight meetings with Moroccan opposition, now face an uphill battle ahead of the return leg in Casablanca next week as they look to overturn the deficit and keep their group-stage hopes alive.

Blames Young Wife Regina Daniels’ Outburst on Drug Abuse

0

Senator Ned Nwoko (Delta North) has publicly responded to a viral video showing his wife, Nollywood actress Regina Daniels, in distress, attributing her recent erratic behaviour to alleged substance abuse.

In a lengthy post shared on his verified social-media handle on Sunday, he claimed that Daniels is now battling drug and alcohol addiction, which he says is the root of the marital crisis.

Don’t fall for lies against Bawumia – Techiman South MP warns NPP members

0

Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Techiman and the Bono East Region to disregard what he described as lies and propaganda being spread by other aspirants to discredit former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking during Dr Bawumia’s campaign visit to Techiman on Saturday, Mr Korsah said the former Vice President’s unwavering service to the party, extensive experience in governance, and strong personal integrity make him the most capable candidate to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 elections.

He noted that despite Dr Bawumia’s remarkable contributions, some individuals continue to undermine him for political gain. He therefore cautioned delegates to remain focused and not be swayed by such tactics.

“They will come here and tell you all sorts of things in an attempt to pull down Dr Bawumia,” the MP said. “Ignore them, because Bawumia is the man best placed to lead the NPP to victory.”

Mr Korsah described Dr Bawumia as the most marketable candidate for the NPP, citing his popularity and proven track record.

“Today, apart from Mahama, who is already well known because he has been President, no politician in Ghana is more popular than Dr Bawumia. Everywhere we go, people know him,” he said.

“We have already marketed him. If we bring in a new candidate, we’ll have to put in about ten times more effort to sell that person than we would need for Dr Bawumia.”

Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, MP for Techiman South

He further warned that opting for an untested candidate would amount to taking an unnecessary risk.

“If we want to experiment, then we can go back and pick an unknown person. But if we truly want to move forward, let’s stick with Bawumia for victory,” he added.

The Techiman South MP also reflected on Ghana’s political history, noting that no presidential candidate under the Fourth Republic has won on their first attempt. He argued that this precedent gives Dr Bawumia a unique advantage heading into 2028.

“With Bawumia having already tried once, 2028 will be his year of victory — because he has passed the test of humility and patience that Ghanaians always set for their leaders,” Mr Korsah stated.

VEEP assures completion of Legacy of Hope Paediatric and Children’s cancer hospital

0

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has assured that government will work with the Catholic Church to ensure the completion of the Legacy of Hope Paediatric and Children’s Cancer Hospital.

Speaking during the Closing Mass of the 2025 Rosary Congress on October 18, 2025, Prof Opoku-Agyemang indicated that development projects initiated by private and religious organizations align with the Government’s vision to enhance the healthcare sector.

“Government will work with the Church because this request is not for personal gain, but for the national interest,” she stated.

She also urged the congregation to prioritize national interest in pursuit of sustainable development.

Her assurance was in response to an appeal by the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie, C.S.Sp., who called for support to finalize the hospital project.

The facility is intended to provide specialized healthcare for children battling cancer and other critical medical conditions.

The hospital will include an Outpatient Department (OPD), a theatre, a radiology unit, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a pharmacy, a medical block, a maternity ward, and a special accommodation unit, once completed.

Shatta Wale salutes trailblazer Samini at Shattabration

0

Dancehall heavyweight Shatta Wale has publicly recognised fellow artist Samini as the true pioneer who “paved the way” for Ghana’s new generation of music stars.

The tribute, delivered before a crowd at Independence Square on October 18, 2025, marked an emotional high point during Shatta Wale’s 40th birthday celebration, known as Shatta Fest 2025 or “Shattabration”.

Shatta Wale, who has often been at the centre of heated industry rivalries, set aside past tensions to honour Samini’s foundational role in Ghanaian dancehall and Afrobeats.

Introducing Samini to an estimated 30,000 fans, Shatta Wale declared:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the person I’m coming to introduce today is one of Ghana’s greatest legends. He is somebody who paved the way for us all.”

Samini: The Pathmaker for a Generation

This public acknowledgement resonates deeply in a music industry where generational divides and rivalry are common.

For nearly two decades, Samini, born Emmanuel Andrews Samini, has been a leading figure in Ghanaian and African dancehall.

He set historic benchmarks, including becoming the first Ghanaian to win a MOBO Award (2006), and his international tours in the early 2000s — spanning the United States, Canada, Europe, and the UK — demonstrated that Ghanaian music could compete on the world stage.

Samini’s efforts have borne fruit.

According to the Ghana Music Rights Organization (GHAMRO), Ghana’s music exports have grown nearly 400% since 2010, with younger artists like Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Sarkodie now performing globally and amassing millions of digital streams.

Shatta Wale himself has performed to sold-out crowds in London and New York, opportunities he acknowledged were “opened by Samini’s example.”

A Night of Unity and Record Turnout

The birthday festival, powered by Mobile Money Ghana Limited and MTN MoMo, drew an unprecedented crowd.

Security struggled to control the surge as fans in white — honouring Shatta Wale’s call for unity and victory — pressed against barriers to witness the headline performances.

Viral social media clips captured the intensity of the crowd, prompting calls for improved safety at large events.

The main highlight came when Samini and Shatta Wale performed their 2019 collaboration “Celebration”.

The song, released under Samini’s High Grade Family label, had long symbolised the potential for unity within Ghana’s competitive dancehall scene.

“He is somebody who paved the way for us all,” Shatta Wale reiterated, his words echoing far beyond the stage as fans cheered in approval.

The event also featured chart-toppers like Wendy Shay, Medikal, Tinny, JZyNo, Jupitar, and Empress Gifty.

Hosted by Adom TV’s Sister Sandy and joined by Nigerian influencers Pellet and Big Jiggy, Shattabration became a pan-African spectacle, further testament to the international reach Ghanaian artists now enjoy.

Industry Recognition and Shifting Narratives

Shatta Wale’s tribute is part of a larger trend. In recent months, Stonebwoy, another global dancehall ambassador, called Samini “the undisputed king of African dancehall,” citing his MOBO Award and international milestones.

Industry analyst Bullgod, while defending Shatta Wale’s African Dancehall King title, has consistently credited Samini as the genre’s torchbearer.

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture estimates that the creative arts sector directly employs over 100,000 Ghanaians and contributes nearly $100 million annually to the economy, with music exports a major driver.

The international foundation laid by artists like Samini has enabled a new generation to aspire for — and achieve — global recognition.

A Moment of Reconciliation and Inspiration

The symbolic performance of “Celebration” signalled not just personal reconciliation but a broader shift toward honouring legacy over rivalry. For fans who witnessed past feuds, the moment was especially poignant — a reminder that Ghana’s music industry is strongest when united.

Samini’s reaction was one of visible pride. For him, acknowledgement from a once-rival and now superstar validates years spent breaking barriers.

Early in his career, Ghanaian artists rarely performed outside West Africa. Samini’s tours and international collaborations proved homegrown talent could thrive globally — a vision now realised by many.

Shatta Wale’s recent submission of “Street Crown” for Grammy consideration is the latest in a line of international ambitions enabled by Samini’s groundwork. As digital streaming and global tour opportunities expand, the path blazed by Samini continues to widen.

Looking Forward: Legacy and Ambition

The Shattabration event was more than a birthday party. It became a celebration of legacy, gratitude, and generational progress. In an industry often marked by ego and competition, Shatta Wale’s words — “He is somebody who paved the way for us all” — marked a watershed moment.

As thousands departed Black Star Square, the message was clear: Ghana’s music future is built on the pioneering spirit of those who came before, and today’s stars are ready to honour and expand that legacy.

Prophet Shatta Wale prophesied over my life, now I’m the boss

Wendy Shay has credited her current fame to Shatta Wale Wendy Shay has credited her current fame to Shatta Wale

Ghanaian songstress Wendy Shay has showered praises on Dancehall musician Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, for being the only person who believed in her during the early days of her career.

In a video shared on X after Shatta Wale’s birthday concert, dubbed Shatta Fest, on October 18, 2025, Wendy Shay recounted how industry gatekeepers didn’t believe in her dream when she started music.

Wendy explained that almost every industry person doubted her dream and doubted that she would excel in her music career.

However, according to Wendy Shay, the “On God” singer was the only one who believed in her dream, adding that Shatta Wale prophesied greatness into her career.

“Many people doubted I would succeed in the music industry, including radio presenters, pundits, and Twitter boys who said Wendy Shay won’t make it. But then, I met one man, a prophet.

“His name is Prophet Shatta Wale, and he prophesied over my life. And now I am the boss,” she said.

How massive crowds stormed the Independence Square for ShattaFest

Her comments were met with cheers and applause from the ecstatic crowd, which had come to celebrate Shatta Wale’s 41st birthday with him.

Aside from Wendy Shay, various artistes, including Samini, Tinny, Kelvynboy, Jupita, and many others, graced the stage.

Shatta Wale, the man of the moment, ended the show with his typical energetic and charged atmospheric performances, bringing a satisfying ending to a much-anticipated event.

Bawumia pledges annual grassroots engagement as President

0

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to make grassroots participation a central part of his presidency by holding annual constituency meetings across the country to listen to the concerns of party members and citizens.

Dr. Bawumia made the commitment on the first day of his tour of the Bono Region, where he visited the Banda, Tain, and Wenchi constituencies as part of his nationwide engagement with NPP delegates ahead of the party’s presidential primaries.

Addressing delegates, Dr. Bawumia said his goal as President would be to bring governance closer to the people through direct and consistent engagement with the grassroots.

“If I am elected President, I will make time to regularly engage with the party’s grassroots,” he said. “Just as former President Kufuor did, I will dedicate at least one day each year to meet directly with members at the constituency level through town-hall-style meetings.”

He explained that such engagements would provide an opportunity for ordinary members of the party and citizens to voice their challenges and expectations directly to the President.

“These interactions will allow me to listen to your concerns firsthand and work on them. This is how we will stay connected, and I will ensure that as President, your voices are heard and your issues are addressed.”

Dr. Bawumia emphasized that inclusive governance is key to developing the country, assuring delegates.

United Party Chairman Boniface dares NPP to challenge use of party name in court

The National Chairman of the newly formed United Party, Abubakar Saddique Boniface, has said he would welcome a legal challenge from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the use of the name “United Party.”

In an interview on TV3’s on Sunday, October 19, 2025, Mr. Boniface argued that the NPP cannot claim exclusive ownership of the name simply because of its historical association with the defunct United Party of the late 1950s.

Drawing an analogy, he explained that names are not exclusive, much like how multiple people can bear the name “Mohammed” without ownership disputes.

He further stated that if the NPP insists on exclusivity, then the old Northern People’s Party could equally claim ownership of the “NPP” name. “They should just stay in their corner and not create problems for themselves,” he added.

The NPP has opposed Alan Kyerematen’s adoption of the name United Party for his new political movement and is reportedly considering legal action to prevent its use. In an interview with JoyNews on Friday, October 17, 2025, Walewale MP Tia Kabiru accused Alan Kyerematen of attempting to appropriate NPP’s political heritage, which he said is rooted in the tradition of the United Party.

Alan Kyerematen officially launched the United Party on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra, describing it as “a new era and a people’s movement to unite the nation beyond partisan divides.”

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum wants to lead Ghana one day as president Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum wants to lead Ghana one day as president

A former Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has pledged to introduce free university education in Ghana if elected president.

Speaking as an aspirant in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary, Dr Adutwum said the policy would ensure equitable access to higher education and empower the next generation to contribute meaningfully to national development.

According to Dr Adutwum, the time has come for Ghana to remove financial barriers that prevent brilliant but needy students from pursuing tertiary education.

“Education is the greatest equaliser, and no Ghanaian child should be denied the opportunity to attend university simply because of poverty.

“Under my leadership, tertiary education will not be a privilege for a few but a right for all,” he stated.

The former minister emphasised that his plan for free university education would be implemented progressively, starting with public universities and prioritising Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programmes.

He noted that the initiative would be funded through efficient resource allocation, improved revenue mobilisation, and partnerships with the private sector.

“We can achieve this if we manage our resources better and make education a true national priority,” he added.

Dr Adutwum, who is widely credited for advancing STEM education during his tenure as education minister, said his vision was to build a knowledge-based economy that could compete globally.

“Ghana’s development depends on how well we invest in our human capital. I have the experience, the vision, and the will to make education truly transformative.

“Free university education will be the next bold step in continuing the legacy of the Free SHS policy,” he said.

Why now is the best time to shop around for cheaper forex deals

0

For many business owners in Ghana, one of the biggest challenges is accessing affordable foreign exchange (forex) to pay for imports such as machinery, spare parts, raw materials, and even livestock.

With the cedi’s recent appreciation, every pesewa saved when buying dollars, euros, or pounds matters.

For business owners and individuals, here’s a simple, step-by-step guide on how to get cheaper forex rates in Ghana and how to use certain platforms to compare and choose the best deals.

IMF applauds Ghana’s recent cedi appreciation

1. Understand how forex works in Ghana

In Ghana, foreign exchange is traded mainly through three channels:

Banks – They are the most formal source but often come with stricter requirements, such as account history, documentation, and proof of transfer purpose.

Forex Bureaus – These licensed institutions usually provide more flexible access than banks. Their rates may be slightly higher or lower depending on market dynamics.

The Black Market – Although rates here may sometimes appear attractive, they are risky, unregulated, and often illegal. Businesses are better off avoiding it.

2. Compare rates before buying

One common mistake businesses make is rushing to the nearest bank or bureau without checking what others are offering. Rates can vary widely. For example, one bank may be selling the dollar at GH¢12.20, while a nearby bureau lists it at GH¢12.05.

This is where CediRates becomes useful. The platform tracks and lists forex rates from both banks and forex bureaus across Ghana, allowing you to quickly see who is offering the best buy and sell prices.

3. Verify the legitimacy of the source

Before exchanging large sums, always ensure the bank or bureau is licensed. If you’re using a forex bureau, ask for their Bank of Ghana certification. This protects you from fraud and ensures you receive a receipt for every transaction.

4. Time your purchases strategically

Forex rates fluctuate daily, sometimes even within the same day. Tracking movements over time can help you buy when the cedi is relatively stronger.

CediRates provides frequent updates, enabling you to monitor trends and avoid overpaying.

5. Negotiate where possible

While banks usually have fixed rates, some forex bureaus allow room for negotiation, especially when you’re exchanging larger amounts. It never hurts to ask for a slightly better deal.

6. Use digital platforms for convenience

Many banks and forex bureaus now provide digital services that allow you to lock in rates online before visiting the branch. Taking advantage of this can save you both time and money.

For businesses, whether you’re importing clothes, food, farm equipment, or raw materials, even a small difference in the exchange rate can significantly impact costs.

For instance, saving 20 pesewas per dollar on a $10,000 transaction translates into GH¢2,000 in savings.

By following this step-by-step process and leveraging platforms like CediRates, business owners can protect their margins, plan more effectively, and avoid unnecessary foreign exchange losses.

Remember, never settle for the first forex rate you see.

Compare, verify, and time your purchases, and with the right tools, you can make smarter decisions and keep your business costs under control.

Korle Bu staff dazzle at 2025 interdepartmental fun games

Head of Public Relations at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, has given a detailed reason behind the hospital’s much-anticipated games for its staff.

In an interview with the media during the hospital’s annual interdepartmental fun games in Accra, Mustapha noted that the reason for the year’s activities is to create team-building opportunities and also help release stress among staff, considering the tedious nature of their work.

“This is something we have been doing over the years, as far back as 2003. We organised it, but along the line, there were breaks… We thought that this was a medium through which we could build team spirit and promote networking, because Korle-Bu is such a huge place that if you’re in one department, it is difficult to know others in different departments.

“When we organise forums like this, you are able to bring everybody on board, get to know ourselves better, and also exercise, because our work is so tedious that some of us don’t even have time to train,” he said.

Mustapha Salifu additionally noted that another objective of the hospital is to build a staff team that can equally participate in other organized corporate games among institutions.

“One of the objectives is to build a Team Korle-Bu, so when they are playing the corporate games, we will also be able to field a team.

“You can see a lot of talent on the pitch. I am sure if the Black Queens coaches were around, they would be interested in what the Korle Bu ladies are doing,” he added.

Mustapha also shared that he finds joy in seeing staff from various departments come together and actively take part in the hospital’s annual event.

“For us, it’s quite exciting to be able to gather 21 departments and participate in these games. Looking at it, I can say we have achieved our aim. In our budget, we said we were looking at around 600 people, but when we did our count here, we had 730 people with their families.”

He finally called on staff and Ghanaians to engage in physical activities, adding that the hospital would organise another intriguing event in 2026, where staff from other hospitals could partake.

“The body requires some level of exercise, whether you’re a sportsman or not, so we would encourage Ghanaians in general to try and engage in exercise.

“They should look out for the Korle Bu Staff Fun Games in 2026. It’s going to be mega. We are looking at the possibility of bringing in other hospitals so it can be more competitive,” he added.

The 2025 interdepartmental staff fun games saw a variety of activities, including football, basketball, ludo, table tennis, tug of peace, and musical chairs, among others.

Ken Agyapong has never considered going independent, he’s a loyal NPP member – Charles Bissue

0

An aide to Kennedy Agyapong has dismissed claims that the outspoken New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart ever considered leaving the party or contesting as an independent candidate.

Charles Bissue, Campaign Administrator for the Ken Agyapong team, said Agyapong’s loyalty to the NPP remains firm, rooted in his decades-long commitment as a founding member.

He highlighted the former lawmaker’s dedication during the 2024 general election campaign, noting that Agyapong personally visited eight constituencies to support Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s presidential candidate.

“In 2023, some people went to his house and wanted him to become an independent candidate. He drove them away, saying that the NPP has made him who he is,” Bissue told on Asaase Radio on Saturday.

Bissue added that Agyapong has never expressed any intention to abandon the party or refuse to support its elected leaders. “Somebody who is a founding member of the party, I think, the party is dear to his heart. He has never said he would leave the party or refuse to help any winning candidate,” he stated.

He emphasised that unity among key party figures such as Agyapong and Bawumia will be essential as the NPP prepares for future elections. “If Kennedy wins, he would need Dr Bawumia; and if Dr Bawumia wins, he would need Kennedy and the others,” Bissue said in an interview with Asaase Radio.

His remarks come amid growing scrutiny of internal dynamics within the NPP as the party repositions itself for the 2028 presidential race following its loss in the 2024 general elections.

Ignore those who come here to pull Bawumia down with lies – Techiman South MP to Bono East NPP

0

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Member of Parliament for Techiman South, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, has urged members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Techiman and the Bono East Region to ignore what he described as lies and propaganda by other aspirants aimed at discrediting former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking during Dr Bawumia’s campaign visit to Techiman on Saturday, the MP said the former Vice President’s committed service to the party, experience, impact in government, and strong personal values make him the most suitable candidate to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 elections.

Mr Korsah noted that despite Dr Bawumia’s widely acknowledged contributions and qualities, some individuals were still attempting to undermine him for political gain. He therefore cautioned delegates to pay no attention to such persons.

“They will come here, and they will tell you all sorts of things in an attempt to pull down Dr Bawumia,” the MP said.
“Ignore them, because Bawumia is the man best placed to lead the NPP to victory.”

He argued that Dr Bawumia’s popularity and track record make him the most marketable candidate for the party.

Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, MP for Techiman South

“Today, apart from Mahama, who is already well known because he has been President, no politician in Ghana is more popular than Dr Bawumia. Everywhere we go, people know him,” he said.

“We have already marketed him. If we bring in a new candidate, we’ll have to put in about ten times more effort to sell that person than we would need for Dr Bawumia.”

Mr Korsah added that choosing an untested candidate would amount to taking an unnecessary risk.

“If we want to experiment, then we can go back and pick an unknown person. But if we truly want to move forward, let’s stick with Bawumia for victory,” he urged.

The Techiman South MP further recalled Ghana’s recent political history under the Fourth Republic, noting that no candidate has won the presidency on their first attempt. He said this trend gives Dr Bawumia an advantage, having already made his first bid.

“With Bawumia having already tried once, 2028 will be his year of victory — because he has passed the test of humility and patience that Ghanaians always set for their leaders,” Mr Korsah said.

The Sakumono District Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with a shooting and trespassing incident at the Celebrity Golf Club area in Sakumono, Accra.

The suspects — identified as Abubakar Mohammed, 28, Eric Asare, 23, and Felix Darko, 48 — were apprehended on October 18, 2025, following reports of gunfire at a construction site linked to one of the club’s executives.

According to a police statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects falsely claimed to be National Security operatives.

They reportedly stormed the site and unlawfully discharged firearms, causing damage to parts of the property.

Police believe the attack is connected to an ongoing land dispute involving individuals associated with the Nungua Traditional Council.

All three suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations.

The Accra Regional Police Command has cautioned the public, especially those involved in land disputes, to refrain from acts of lawlessness. It assured that anyone found guilty of such actions will face the full rigour of the law.
