Founding President of IMANI Africa Franklin Cudjoe
Founding President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has lambasted national Security operatives for their handling of search warrants.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, March 20, 2025, he indicated that search warrants are for lawful searches and not to vandalise property.
“It is embarrassing for the Majority Leader of the ruling govt to be rendering apologies on behalf of state-sponsored thugs who raid the home of citizens.
“In a civilised country, warrants secured are for lawful searches, not to vandalise property, steal food, money and jewelry”, he noted.
on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, some armed men led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat raided the private residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Ernest Addison.
Reports indicate that they disabled the CCTV system and allegedly ransacked his home during the raid.

An aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kofi Tonto, has affirmed their trust in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership and its decision to set up a committee to review the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
Speaking on Joy FM‘s Newsnight on Thursday, March 20, he explained that the committee’s formation was a collective decision, and questioning its credibility would be contradictory.
“Well, first of all, the party has instituted a committee, and we trust the judgment of the party. When the party meets to take such a decision, leaders of the party are present.
“So how can we be part of a decision to constitute a committee and then come out to say otherwise?” he stated.
He, however, clarified that trusting the committee does not necessarily mean agreeing with every aspect of its report but rather respecting the process.
His comments follow Adwoa Safo’s criticism of the election review committee, in which she questioned its credibility, suggesting it was formed to push a specific agenda rather than conduct an impartial review.
She also rejected any attempt to solely blame Dr Bawumia for the party’s electoral defeat, arguing that the process appeared to be manipulated to discredit him.
Mr Tonto assured that Dr Bawumia’s team has no intention of questioning the integrity of the committee. However, they will thoroughly examine the report when it is released and raise concerns where necessary.
“What we will do is that once the report comes, we will take an extensive look at it. If we have concerns, we will address them accordingly,” he added.

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has criticized the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) committee established to investigate the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections, labeling it as lacking credibility and being agenda-driven.
She alleged that the committee was deliberately formed to push a specific agenda rather than conduct an impartial fact-finding mission.
Speaking during an interview with Joy FM, Adwoa Safo asserted, “It is a very bogus committee. A committee that is put together just to find certain facts and push a particular candidate away from the candidacy so that we can bring our own, you call that a credible fact-finding committee?”.
Adwoa Safo specifically questioned the appointment of Prof. Mike Oquaye as the committee’s chairman, citing a potential conflict of interest.
She challenged Prof. Oquaye to first address the reasons behind his son, Mike Oquaye Junior’s loss of the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat before assessing the party’s overall electoral performance.
Safo argued that the party should have selected a more neutral and experienced individual to lead the committee, suggesting that the current leadership undermines the committee’s objectivity and effectiveness.
“If Prof Mike Oquaye thinks he has integrity and credibility, I want to see the first page of his fact-finding report explaining why his son Mike Oquaye Junior lost the Dome-Kwabenya seat. If he does that with transparency, without bias or prejudice, then I will accept any findings he presents against Dr Bawumia. Otherwise, that report will not hold in this party.
“His son has lost, and you think he is the best person to lead a fact-finding committee that includes that very constituency? Why not choose an independent person? Couldn’t we find anyone else in the party to chair it?” Adwo Safo asked.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah has officially assumed her new role as Technical Advisor to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.
Photographs from her first day at the Ministry captured her beaming with smiles as she engaged with the Minister and other officials.
Muntaka warmly welcomed her and emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving the Ministry’s mandate. He added that looked forward to working together to achieve the mandate of the Ministry.
COP Addo-Danquah, in response, expressed her appreciation for the warm reception and pledged her commitment to supporting the Ministry’s objectives.
Swift reassignment
Her move to the Interior Ministry comes barely a day after she was initially named Director-General of Research & Planning at the Ghana Police Service. In a sudden turn of events, a directive from the Presidency reassigned her to the new role, effective immediately.
A letter signed by Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, confirmed the decision.
“In line with this directive, you are hereby reassigned from your current position to the Ministry of the Interior, where you will serve as the Technical Advisor to the Honorable Minister. This reassignment takes immediate effect, and you are expected to liaise with the relevant authorities to ensure a smooth transition into your new role,” the statement read.
The letter further acknowledged her service, stating: “His Excellency the President recognizes and deeply appreciates your unwavering dedication, professionalism, and invaluable contributions to the nation. It is his firm belief that your expertise and commitment will continue to serve the country effectively in your new capacity.”
COP Addo-Danquah’s reassignment is part of a broader restructuring within the Ghana Police Service under the leadership of new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno. The latest shake-up is aimed at strengthening leadership and improving operational efficiency within the Police Management Board (POMAB).
Prior to this development, COP Addo-Danquah had returned to the Police Service after a tenure as Executive Director of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), where she spearheaded efforts to combat financial crimes and corruption. She also previously served as Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), playing a key role in high-profile investigations.
In her new position at the Interior Ministry, she is expected to work closely with key stakeholders to enhance security policies and strategies aimed at improving law enforcement operations in Ghana.
Member of Parliament for Suame and Counsel for the Minority Caucus, John Darko, has strongly criticized the arrest of media personality Okatakyie Afrifa, questioning the rationale behind the move and the treatment he received while in detention.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Thursday, Mr. Darko expressed his disapproval of the actions taken by national security, particularly their justification for arresting Afrifa under the pretext of seeking his assistance in combating illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
“What was the basis for arresting Okatakyie Afrifa?” Mr. Darko asked. “After threatening him with handcuffs, after arresting him, keeping him in national security custody for over three hours or four hours, we are told that he was supposed to help the national security to fight galamsey.
“What are you talking about? Are you asking a private citizen right now to come and help you fight galamsey when you are the national security institution that has all the available information, all the available tools to conduct your investigation? You come to a private citizen to help.”
He further criticized the justification provided, arguing that it exposed a lack of planning and accountability within the national security apparatus.
“You know why they are saying this—because they realized that they had guffed so much. There was no reason to arrest the gentleman,” he stated.
Mr. Darko urged the public to resist such actions, stressing the need to uphold fairness and protect societal values.
“We should resist that… We need to do that to save our society,” he said.

Former NPP parliamentary candidate for Dome/Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr
The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Dome/Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr has refuted claims made by former Member of Parliament for the area, Sarah Adwoa Safo that he disrespected her father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, March 20, 2025, he emphasized that such actions do not align with his upbringing and values.
“I have and will never insult anyone’s father. My paternal Grandfather is a farmer, I am myself a part time farmer. I have never and will never do that. That is not how I was brought up and those who know me, know that I eschew insults”, it stated.
It also dismissed claims that he ignored the former Chief of Staff, Frema Osei-Opare and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and other persons who reached out to him.
“I will never snub the then President, Chief of staff or any elderly person who calls me to see them. That is the trait of disrespect, and I am not like that. I have historically shown that for me it is always party first”, it indicated.
The statement clarified that he made attempts to reach out to Sarah Adwoa Safo after he won the parliamentary primaries.
“I tried on three occasions to reach out to my opponent after I won the primaries. Madam Sheela responded and we chat till today. I was rebuffed by the other person and her special assistant Nana Dubin told me after three weeks of trying that she didn’t want to speak to me. How then will I have been welcome to attend her church?
“For now, I leave the rest of the matters to God for he will fight for me.
I will never malign the party or any individual who calls me to see them. That is the trait of disrespect, and I am not like that. I have historically shown that for me it is always party first”, it added.
Sarah Adwoa Safo has alleged in a recent media interview that Mike Oquaye Jnr insulted her father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo.

Ghana face an uphill task against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025, when the two meet at the Accra Sports Stadium for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Chad’s failure to secure any points from their four games so far and Ghana’s quest for redemption make the four-time Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champions the favorites going into the game.
However, if there’s any team in recent years that has proven capable of faltering under pressure and letting the moment overwhelm them, it’s the Black Stars.
As such, they must be wary of the Chad team, especially these three key players.
Mahamat Thiam
Born in France, Mahamat Thiam chose to represent Chad and has featured in Chad’s last seven games, dating back to June 2024.
His versatility makes the former Kolkheti 1913 defensive midfielder a force to be reckoned with.
Since his debut for Les Sao in March 2024, Thiam has been used in multiple roles on the pitch, including as a left-back. He has scored one goal in nine appearances for Chad.
Frederic Djoeta
The midfielder was part of Elect Sport’s team that suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ghana Premier League club, Nsoatreman, in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2024.
At just 21 years of age, Djoeta’s robustness in midfield should be a concern for the Black Stars. The 21-year-old made his debut for Chad in 2023, at the age of 20, and has since made four appearances for Les Sao.
His defensive skills and ability to spot danger have contributed to Elect Sport conceding just 17 goals in 21 games in the Chad Premiere Division.
Gabkala Daba
Another youngster on the team, Gabkala Daba has consistently demonstrated his potential whenever he steps onto the pitch.
Playing for AS Psi, the team has conceded just 16 goals in 20 games in the Chad Premiere Division. Psi has also kept three clean sheets in their last five games, with Daba playing crucial roles in those matches.
His ability to anticipate danger and deliver precise crosses could prove pivotal for Chad against the Black Stars on Friday, March 21, 2025.

Kurt Simeon-Okraku presenting the GFA statute to Kofi Adams
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Simeon-Okraku, led a delegation of Executive Council members and Regional Football Association (RFA) chairmen to meet with Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Iddie Adams, on Monday, March 17, 2025.
The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the GFA and the ministry for the development of Ghanaian football.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku congratulated Mr. Adams on his appointment and introduced the delegation, emphasizing the need for teamwork in advancing the sport.
“We are here this morning to congratulate you as a collective unit and introduce members of the Executive Council and Regional FA chairmen,” he stated. “We can achieve so much for our people if we work together as a team.”
Vice-President Mark Addo highlighted Simeon-Okraku’s election to the CAF Executive Committee, noting that it enhances Ghana’s influence in continental football.
Kofi Adams welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting football infrastructure and youth development.
Discussions also covered future football projects and the government’s role in providing resources.
Both parties called for national support for the Black Stars as they prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad on March 21 and Madagascar on March 24.
As part of the visit, Mr. Simeon-Okraku presented copies of the GFA and CAF statutes to the minister, underscoring the association’s commitment to structured football governance.
Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has defended her decision to oppose the controversial Electronic Transactions Levy (E-Levy), emphasizing that it was a major factor in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral loss.
In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Thursday, March 20, Adwoa Safo explained why she refused to support the policy, arguing that it failed to fulfill its intended purpose and instead placed an undue burden on Ghanaians.
The Paramount Chief of the Wasipe Traditional Area in Daboya in the North Gonja District of the Savannah Region, Wasipewura Mumuni Anyame Kabasagya II, has reacted to the exodus of some settler farmers from his jurisdiction.
He stated that his attention had been drawn to a circulating video on social media suggesting that some settler farmers were fleeing the area for fear of attacks by indigenes.
In a press statement signed by the Secretary to the Wasipe Traditional Council on Wednesday, March 19, the chief asserted that the video, which he had obtained, was deliberately orchestrated to damage the long-standing relationship between his office and the settler farming community.
“This palace has taken cognisance of the entire content of the video and wishes to state that it is a deliberate attempt to destroy the longstanding relationship we have enjoyed with the settler farmers in the area.”
He further emphasised that the Wasipe Traditional Area has coexisted peacefully with settler farmers for centuries, without any major conflicts.
However, investigations revealed that some of the departing farmers were those who had deliberately refused to pay royalties to the Yiram, Wasipewura, and instead chose to pay them to chiefs outside the Wasipe Traditional Area.
“We have lived in harmony with our settler brothers and sisters in this area for centuries without any major issues.
“Our enquiries have proven that any settler farmer choosing to leave is among those who deliberately refused to pay royalties to Yiram, Wasipewura, but opted to pay to chiefs outside the Wasipe Traditional Area,” the chief stated.
Wasipewura Kabasagya II also expressed concern that some of these farmers no longer recognise his authority as the rightful custodian of the land.
“More severely, some of these settler farmers have withdrawn their recognition of the Wasipewura as the allodial titleholder of the land on which they are farming,” he lamented.
Despite these developments, the chief assured the general public that his palace remains at peace with all other tribes in the area.
He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the peaceful coexistence that has been enjoyed over the years.

A U.S. court has awarded Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas $18 million (£14 million) in damages after a jury ruled that he was defamed by former Ghanaian MP Kennedy Agyapong.
The case stems from remarks Agyapong made following Anas’s 2018 BBC investigation, which exposed corruption in Ghanaian and international football.
During the trial, the court heard that Agyapong, in a podcast episode, had labelled Anas a “criminal” and accused him of being involved in the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Suale, BBC reported.
Anas had previously lost a similar legal battle in Ghana seven years ago. However, after the podcast episode was released in 2021, he pursued legal action in the U.S. state of New Jersey, where Agyapong owns the property.
Last week’s initial verdict was upheld on Tuesday, with an eight-member jury in Essex County Superior Court, New Jersey, unanimously ruling that Agyapong was liable for defamation.
The court awarded Anas Aremeyaw Anas $18 million in damages, including $8 million in punitive damages.
The journalist, who has received multiple international awards for his investigative reporting, has vowed to continue his fight against corruption and hold wrongdoers accountable.
“Justice has prevailed. This victory is not just for me, but for truth, press freedom, and every journalist who risks everything to expose corruption and wrongdoing,” Anas said in response.
“No amount of intimidation or falsehood will silence the pursuit of accountability even in the face of assassination. Our work continues, undeterred and unafraid.”
Agyapong appealed for a reduction but it was denied. Agyapong’s lawyers argued unsuccessfully that the case should not have been tried in the U.S. They also claimed that his comments on the podcast were merely hyperbole and opinion, not grounds for a defamation lawsuit.
Bui Power Authority made profits in the last five years
In recent times, the Minister of Finance and other stakeholders have lamented the rate of losses being recorded by State Owned Enterprises in Ghana.
Sharing his thoughts on this development, the Acting Director-General of the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), Professor Michael Kpessa-Whyte, has disclosed that there are some others who have been making profits and paying dividends to the state in the past five years.
According to him, despite the challenges that SOEs are facing in Ghana, Bui Power Authority, ESLA PLC, Ghana Gas, Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, TDC Company, and State Housing Company have consistently posted profits while paying dividends to the state from 2019 to 2023.
“It’s not all bad news. The best-performing SOEs include Bui Power Authority, ESLA PLC, Ghana Gas, Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, TDC Company, and State Housing Company. From 2019 to 2023, they have consistently made profits and contributed dividends to the state,” he was quoted by citinewsroom.com to have said.
On the flip side, he said Ghana’s 10 largest State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) by asset base recorded a net loss of GH¢11 billion in 2023.
He said this figure exceeds the combined losses of all 53 SOEs while adding that this compounds their financial limitations.
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) accounted for GH¢10 billion of the losses, while Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) recorded a GH¢3 billion shortfall.
“10 SOEs with the most assets recorded an aggregate net loss of GH¢11 billion in the financial year 2023, which surpasses the total loss of all 53 SOEs. ECG alone accounted for GH¢10 billion,” he stated.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has warned the CEOs of SOEs against mismanagement of financial resources.
He said he would not hesitate to relieve non-performing CEOs of their positions.
England international Lucy Bronze has revealed that she was diagnosed with autism and ADHD four years ago, confirming long-held suspicions by her mother.
Despite winning almost every major accolade in women’s football—including 22 trophies with clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Lyon, Barcelona, and Chelsea—Bronze has always felt different.
As a child, she tried to mimic her teammates’ behavior to fit in, unaware of the neurodivergence shaping her experiences.
A Euro 2022 winner and 2023 World Cup runner-up with England, the 2019 Ballon d’Or runner-up has become an inspiration to millions. However, she now understands that achievements alone do not define a person.
Speaking exclusively to BBC Sport ahead of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, the 33-year-old opened up for the first time about her diagnosis and how it has impacted both her personal life and career. By sharing her story, she hopes to encourage others, especially young athletes, to embrace their unique journeys.
Aboubakar Ouattara is the head coach of Hearts of Oak
Under-fire Hearts of Oak coach, Aboubakar Ouattara has slammed a journalist in response to remarks about the club’s ambitions.
Hearts of Oak suffered their second defeat in just four days, falling to Bechem United on Wednesday, March 19, 2025—a significant setback in their pursuit of the Ghana Premier League title.
When questioned about his side’s target for the season following the loss, the seasoned tactician lashed out at the reporter, emphasizing that there are still many games left to decide the league winner.
“Have I told you that our ambition is to win the league? This is not Makola Market. There are 12 matches left, which means 36 points are still up for grabs. We’re playing the game, this is a league. Don’t judge now; let us finish the season first. On June 8th, we will talk about the league,” he said.
The defeat drops Hearts of Oak to fifth in the league standings, four points behind leaders Bibiani Gold Stars—the very team they face this weekend, March 23, 2025, at Bibiani.

Acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has commended the smooth conduct of the Ghana Rugby Football Union elections, which saw Rafatu Inusah elected as the new president.
Rafatu, who ran unopposed, replaces Herbert Mensah, the current President of Africa Rugby, and will serve a five-year term.
She will be assisted by Vice President Emmanuel Bamfi, with board members Prince Kwaku, Emmanuel Kalos, Abdul Saeed Samed, and SaCut Amenga, the General Secretary, overseeing the union’s daily operations.

Ghana has been ranked as the 125th happiest country in the world, and 19th in Africa, in a surprising 2025 World Happiness Report.
Ghana, with a score of 4.340 on the World Happiness Index, was ranked below 18 other African countries, including known conflict zones such as Somalia and Chad, and neighbors Nigeria, Benin, and Burkina Faso.
The ranking was a drop from 2024, when Ghana was ranked the 120th happiest country in the world.
Ghana has steadily dropped in the rankings since 2021, when it peaked at 91st in the world with a Happiness Index score of 5.148. As most Ghanaians know, the previous NPP government completely lost the plot in 2022 after major corruption scandals during COVID and unchecked spending towards the 2020 elections. In December 2022, Ghana experienced its worst economic period in years, with inflation reaching a staggering 54%. The cost of living skyrocketed and the standard of living sharply fell. The country never recovered, leading to the NPP party being wiped out in the 2024 elections.
All this has led to Ghana’s decline, leading to a current ranking below many countries Ghanaians would be shocked about. Below is the 2025 World Happiness Report for Africa.

Entertainment pundit, MC Yaa Yeboah, has called out former Guinness World Records Sing-a-thon contender, Afua Asantewaa, accusing her of dishonesty and ingratitude regarding her use of state funds for the event.
Yeboah’s comments come in response to Asantewaa’s recent statements, where she denied receiving government support, stating that she only received sore throat lozenges.
She later admitted to receiving some donations after being called out by some New Patriotic Party members.
In a submission on Peace FM, MC Yaa Yeboah challenged Asantewaa’s claims, pointing out that the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) spent state funds to make the venue conducive for her Sing-a-thon attempt.
“She is actually dishonest. I’m saying that because if you listen to the statement she put on her social media, she was saying people are bitter because they believe she used state funds.
“But the venue she did her Sing-a-thon, wasn’t it state funds that sponsored it? Where did the money the GTA spent on making the place conducive for her attempt come from? Wasn’t it state funds?
“So, from the onset, she’s decided to be ungrateful and dishonest. She has been lying to Ghanaians about everything,” Yeboah said.
The pundit also criticised Asantewaa for blaming her team members after her disqualification from the Guinness World Records attempt.
“After the Sing-a-thon, she had been blaming her team members for her disqualification. How do you think her team would feel?” Yeboah asked.
MC Yaa Yeboah also condemned Asantewaa’s behaviour so far, claiming that it would have been better if she had remained silent about the whole affair.
“If she had kept silent, it would have been better. When she came to drag Socrate Safo over the money matter, she knew that she had received money. So, why would she set up a man like Dr Bawumia?
“If it was a private event sponsored by her money, nobody would have cared. But as long as she used state money, she owed Ghanaians an explanation,” she said.

The family of the late Getrude Essie Quashigah, a former National Coordinator the School Feeding Program, have debunked allegations made by former Minister of Gender and Social Protection, Sarah Adwoa Safo, regarding mismanagement of the program during their mother’s tenure.
In a statement issued by the family, dated Thursday, March 20, 2025, they described the allegations as untrue.
“We, the family and children of the Late Madam Gertrude Essie Quashigah, have noted with great sadness and disappointment the recent allegations made by former Minister for Gender, Sarah Adwoa Safo, regarding the supposed mismanagement of the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) during our mother’s tenure as National Coordinator.
“Our mother, who served as National Coordinator of the GSFP from 2019 until her untimely passing in 2023, carried out her responsibilities with the highest levels of integrity, dedication, and selflessness. Under her stewardship, the Program witnessed remarkable expansion, touching the lives of thousands of Ghanaian schoolchildren and significantly improving nutrition and welfare standards across the country,” it stated.
It further indicated that such allegations have caused distress to the family.
“It is deeply painful that such unfounded and unfortunate accusations are being levelled against our mother at a time when she is no longer present to speak for herself. These remarks have caused distress not only to us, her children, but to all who respected her contributions to national development.
“We are particularly disheartened given the historical relationship between our late father, Major Courage Quashigah (Rtd), and Safo’s father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo. Both families have shared bonds rooted in mutual respect and public service, making these claims all the more disappointing”, it added.
The family, through their statement, urged the former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya to apologise to the family.
“We respectfully call on Sarah Adwoa Safo to retract her statement, issue an unqualified apology, and refrain from further casting aspersions on the legacy of our late mother. We urge her to consider the pain such remarks have caused to our grieving family and to all who hold Madam Gertrude Quashigah’s memory dear”, it added.

Despite our commitment to a seamless and inclusive financial ecosystem, there are regulations for the industry. My checks with @thebankofghana indicate that no such license has been issued for cross-border payments.
“We will work with all stakeholders as the Ministry for Digital Technology to ensure a favorable ecosystem that protects investments, supports innovation, and offers the best products to our citizens,” part of his tweet said.
The Bank of Ghana, while clarifying the matter, indicated that it had granted Brij Fintech Ghana, a licensed Payment Service Provider, approval to pilot BrijX—a B2B Currency Swap Platform—under its regulatory sandbox program.
The platform is designed as a digital marketplace, collaborating with banks, Mobile Money operators, and licensed PSPs to facilitate direct currency swaps between the Ghanaian Cedi and the Nigerian Naira without the need for forex or the physical movement of funds across borders.
The pilot, which was approved in 2024, began live testing in February 2025, with MoMo customers and will soon extend to G-Money customers.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo appears to be impressed with Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare, hinting that the shot-stopper could start against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025.
He praised Asare’s quality, noting that the former Great Olympics goalkeeper has shown a high level at training and thus deserved his call-up.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the German-trained coach said he had not yet decided who would start in goal, noting that the technical team would make a final decision after their last training session.
“Benjamin Asare has done well; otherwise, we wouldn’t have called him. He has performed well in training, just like the others. We will make the decision after training, so let’s see what happens,” Addo stated.
Explaining Asare’s inclusion in the squad, Addo emphasized that performance remains the key metric for his selections.
“With me, it’s always about performance. It doesn’t matter which position, it’s always performance that counts.
“I listen and hear many opinions, but in the end, I make the decision together with Fatau [Dauda, the goalkeepers’ trainer].”
Benjamin Asare is one of three debutants in the squad and among three locally-based players.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper has been in sensational form this season, keeping 12 clean sheets—more than any other goalkeeper—and conceding just one goal in his last seven games across all competitions.

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has strongly condemned the raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
The alleged operation, carried out by national security operatives on Wednesday, March 19, at Dr. Addison’s Roman Ridge home in Accra, reportedly involved disabling the CCTV system before conducting a search.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claimed that money, as well as the governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces, were missing following the raid.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Cudjoe criticized the misuse of search warrants, stressing that they should only be employed for lawful searches—not as a cover for vandalism, theft, or other misconduct.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, March 20, Franklin Cudjoe stated, “It is embarrassing for the Majority Leader of the ruling government to be rendering apologies on behalf of state-sponsored thugs who raid the home of citizens.
“In a civilised country, warrants secured are for lawful searches, not to vandalise property, steal food, money and jewelry.”
The family and children of the late Madam Gertrude Quashigah, daughter of the late Major (Rtd) Courage Quashigah, have fired back at Adwoa Safo following her recent claims of corruption against the deceased.
Madam Quashigah, who was the National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), was ‘exposed’ by the former Dome Kwabenya MP during a radio interview.
Adwoa Safo claimed that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tasked her with auditing the school feeding program. Adwoa Safo said the rot she discovered within the program was astonishing however, when she took her results to the President, he did nothing.
Safo claims that during her audit, Madam Quashigah approached her and offered to bribe her by creating ghost schools that they could charge the government for and make millions!
Her claims sparked outrage online and the family of the late School feeding coordinator have released a statement denying Adwoa Safo’s claims.
The family said their late relative carried out her duties with “the highest levels of integrity, dedication, and selflessness,” They called on Adwoa Safo to render an unqualified apology for her comments about the late Madam Quashigah.
The statement sparked social media reactions from angry Ghanaians who slammed the family.
“Dead people are automatically righteous,” one user commented.
Another said: “The way every Ghanaian become righteous immediately after he/she dies,I don’t think any Ghanaian will enter hellfire,”
Cape Coast, March 20, GNA – Artisans in Cape Coast, the Central Regional capital, have welcomed the launch of the first phase of government’s “Work Abroad Programme”.
With Romania as the initial destination for skilled workers, the initiative is led by the Youth Employment Agency in collaboration with the Ghanaian-European Centre and European labour institutions.
The move is aimed at providing structured employment opportunities while ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions, a step towards promoting labour mobility and legal migration, abroad for Ghanaians.

“I’ve always wanted to gain international experience and exposure, but I never thought it would be possible. With this programme, I can now showcase my skills globally and learn from others.”
Ms Akua Mensah, a 28-year-old fashion designer, echoed Kofi’s sentiments, “As a fashion designer, I’m always investigating how to improve my craft and stay up-to-date with the latest trends.
She said the programme would offer her the chance to learn from Romanian designers and gain valuable experience in the fashion industry.
For Mr Kwame Addo, a 40-year-old electrician, the programme represents a chance to upgrade his skills and knowledge.
“I’ve been working as an electrician for over 15 years, but I know that there’s always room for improvement. With this programme, I can learn new techniques and technologies that will enable me to provide better services to my clients.
Ms Ama Ofori, a 25-year-old welder, noted that the programme showed that technical skills was as valuable as academic qualifications.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred its former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo, to the disciplinary committee for violating party directives.
The party’s decision stems from Adwoa Safo’s recent interview, where she discussed internal party matters publicly, despite a directive for members to refrain from such actions.
A statement signed by General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua highlighted that Adwoa Safo was expected to set a positive example for others.
However, her comments have been viewed as undermining the party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward after the emotional distress and disappointment members experienced following the party’s defeat in the last election.
The NPP reiterated the importance of unity and calm as it focuses on its recovery and future success.
Michael Harry Yamson, the acting District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) Administrator, has admitted that he did not complete the mandatory national service after graduating from university.
Ghanaian law requires all graduates of accredited tertiary institutions to undertake a one-year national service programme as a prerequisite for public sector employment and a contribution to national development.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday, March 20, 2025, Mr. Yamson was asked whether he had completed his national service.
In response, he candidly stated, “No, Mr. Chair,” confirming his non-compliance with the requirement.
Before his nomination, Mr. Yamson held a board membership position at Unichem Ghana Group and served as the Managing Partner at Ishmael Yamson and Associates since 2021.
His professional experience spans leadership roles at Unilever, Celtel International, and MTI Ghana Limited, where he specialized in brand development, investment strategy, and market expansion.

Defeated Dome Kwabenya MP aspirant, Mike Oquaye Jnr has refuted claims by former Dome Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, that he disrespected her father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, during his campaign.
In a statement, Oquaye Jnr described the allegations as false and clarified that he would never insult anyone’s father, especially as he comes from a farming background himself.
Accra, March 20, GNA – Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thursday said the report on extinction of some African Languages within a century should be a source of worry to all.
He said language was the embodiment of a people’s culture and identity hence African’s should be concerned over the extinction of some of its languages spoken by smaller communities.
Mr Ablakwa said this at a flag raising ceremony in commemoration of the 55th Anniversary of International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) in Accra.
The OIF is an organisation, which comprised 93 member states and governments with a mission to promote the French Language, cultural and linguistic diversity, peace, and democracy, among other things.
Mr Ablakwa said Africa was a hub of linguistic and cultural wealth, accounting for approximately one-third of the world’s languages.
“However, the UNESCO Atlas of the World’s Languages in Danger estimates that up to 10 per cent of African languages, particularly those spoken by small communities, could disappear within a century. This must be a source of worry for all of us,” he said.
He, therefore, called on governments across Africa to consciously promote multilingualism, including indigenous languages, as a tool for unity, peace, and sustainable development.
Promoting multiligualism would foster social cohesion, inclusivity and sustainable development.
He reiterated the Government’s commitment to institutionalising and promoting the use of first languages as the medium of teaching and learning in the early years of education and care in Ghana.
“We will, in addition, incorporate indigenous knowledge, traditions, and stories into teaching and learning materials to make learning more meaningful for our children,” Mr Ablakwa said.
“We are convinced that this is one of the surest ways of preserving our indigenous languages and culture while maximising educational outcomes among our learners,” he indicated.
DopeNation are said to have not submitted their songs for the TGMAs
The Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse Productions, Robert Klah, has clarified why Ghanaian music duo, DopeNation, was excluded from this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nominations.
Speaking on Hitz FM on March 19, 2025, Klah shared that despite the massive success of their hit song, Zormizor, during the year under review, the duo failed to submit the track for consideration.
He also confirmed that the group was indeed reached out to, but they did not engage with the organisers.
“One would expect that on a platform like this, in the year under review, their place would certainly be established. Unfortunately, when there was no filing, and we tried to reach out for consent, we couldn’t get it,” he stated.
The explanation comes following comments by DopeNation explaining their absence from the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) nominees list.
Entertainment pundit, DJ Slim, questioned whether the duo failed to file for nominations or respond to the awards’ research team.
In a cryptic response, DopeNation stated that they have been dealing with deeper, undisclosed issues within the music industry, choosing to remain silent out of respect for certain individuals.
They referenced their 2021 concerns when the ‘Group of the Year’ category was removed and concluded with a warning that the industry risks losing its “true artistes.”
play videoThe French teachers in the GhanaWeb studio on International Francophonie Day
On the occasion of International Francophonie Day, French teachers have called for an increase in the desire to learn the language in Ghana.
Francophonie Day is an important occasion celebrated worldwide, recognising the richness of the French language and the diverse cultures of French-speaking communities.
In Ghana, efforts to promote French education have grown over the years, yet challenges remain.
The CEO of Ghana Online French Lessons for Kids/Adults and Corporate, Mildred Frimpong, said parents must get involved to push their children and encourage them to learn French.
She noted that her ability to teach the language allowed her to teach and make a living when she lost her job as a banker.
A lecturer at the Modern Languages Department of UniMAC-Institute of Languages, Emmanuel Kwasi Owusu, also urged tertiary institutions to create exchange programme opportunities for their students to give them access to visit French-speaking countries.
Also, the Head of FRANCOZONE, CREF (Regional Centers for the Teaching of French), Daniel Kwao Awaitey, noted that learning French should be simplified to make the language attractive to Ghanaians.
He said Ghana is now a full member of Francophonie and has no excuse not to encourage its members to learn.
Monsieur Kedzi, a teacher at the Christian Vine School, said teachers have found modern ways to teach French, a practice that has enhanced its study in recent times.
They spoke to GhanaWeb’s Stella Dziedzorm Sogli on March 20, 2025, which marked International Francophonie Day.
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana has expressed concern over the 16.1% revenue-to-GDP ratio projected in the 2025 budget, arguing it lacks ambition as it is only marginally higher than the 15.9% for 2024.
In a statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, the Institute noted that by closing several tax loopholes and implementing other measures, the Government could significantly increase the nation’s revenue-to-GDP ratio.
The statement outlined the IEA’s views on the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy presented to Parliament by the finance minister on March 11.
The Institute noted that Ghana’s revenue-to-GDP ratio remained well below the average of 25 to 30 per cent for its peer middle-income countries.
Earlier, the IEA had proposed the abolition of the Growth and Sustainability Tax (GST), which was first introduced in 2001 as the Fiscal Stability Tax, describing it as obsolete.
However, the Government decided to maintain the GST in the 2025 Budget, increasing the rate from one per cent to three per cent for extractive companies.
The IEA argued that Ghana should demand more revenue from the extractives sector, including implementing a Super-Profit or Windfall Tax, and noted that the three per cent GST rate was not high enough.
The Institute advocated for a review of existing laws to enable the country to demand more favorable fiscal regimes from its extractives sector to maximise its benefits.
Regarding the elimination of certain taxes, the IEA welcomed the Government’s decision to abolish nuisance or obsolete taxes, including the E-Levy, Emissions Tax, and COVID Tax.
It however expressed disappointment that, contrary to its suggestion to maintain the Betting Tax at a reduced rate of 5 per cent (down from 10 per cent) for both revenue and deterrence purposes, the Government decided to abolish it completely.
Presenting the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy, Finance Minister Dr. Casiel Ato Forson announced several measures aimed at boosting revenue generation and achieving the fiscal targets for 2025.
The Minister also highlighted the removal of certain nuisance taxes in line with the Government’s manifesto promise.
These eliminations were intended to ease the burden on households, improve disposable incomes, support business growth, and enhance tax compliance.

Workers at the Accra Sports Stadium carrying out maintenance work (3Sports photo)
Construction is still underway at the Accra Sports Stadium, with only hours remaining before the venue hosts Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying game against Chad on Friday, March 21, 2025.
This has raised concerns about the readiness of the stadium, with some fans questioning whether it will be in proper condition for the game.
Earlier this week, National Sports Authority (NSA) boss, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, stated that based on advice from the workers, certain sections of the stadium would be closed off to fans.
However, he assured the public that the venue would be ready in time for matchday.
Nonetheless, a video shared by 3Sports in the late hours of Thursday, March 20, 2025, indicates that maintenance work is still ongoing.
The footage shows renovation efforts on the stairs leading to the VIP and media sections of the stadium.
Following Madagascar’s win on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the Black Stars now sit third in the standings with nine points, trailing Madagascar and Comoros, who occupy the first and second spots, respectively.
Anything short of a victory could hinder the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup. As such, head coach Otto Addo will hope his team can perform at their very best.

Ethiopia Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says he wants to have negotiations over access to the sea
Landlocked Ethiopia has no intention of starting a war with neighbouring Eritrea in order to gain access to the sea, the country’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has said.
A previous statement, in 2023, that having a seaport was an “existential issue” for the nation sparked concerns that the Ethiopia could take one by force.
Abiy’s comments to parliament on Thursday came amid fresh concerns that the neighbours, which have had a fractious relationship in the past, could be involved in a conflict again.
The prime minister said the issue of sea access for the world’s most populous landlocked nation should be resolved through diplomacy and mutual benefit.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has referred former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, to its National Disciplinary Committee over her recent media remarks on the party’s 2024 electoral defeat.
This follows the NPP’s earlier directive cautioning members against public statements that could create division within the party.
In a statement on Thursday, March 20, 2025, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong stated that Adwoa Safo’s comments defied party directives and undermined efforts to rebuild.
“As she is aware, the directive explicitly states that all party members must cease discussing party issues that create unrest, negativism, and disaffection in the media and other related platforms. Her actions are not only in disregard of this directive but also undermine the Party’s efforts to rebuild and move forward.
“As a former Member of Parliament, Former Deputy Majority Leader, and Former Minister of State under the erstwhile NPP government, she was expected to set a good example and adhere to the principles of discipline, loyalty and unity that have always defined our great party.
“Her failure to do so not only reflects poorly on her but also in contravention of Article 3(5) of the Party’s constitution, which, among others enjoins us to promote ar.d defend the good name of the Party.
“In breach of the above provision of the Party’s constitution and the directives issued earlier, Hon Sarah Adwoa Sarfo is hereby referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the Party for rusher action.”

Former Dome-Kwabenya MP, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has strongly criticised the committee set up by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to investigate its 2024 election defeat, calling it “bogus” and lacking credibility.
According to her, the committee was deliberately formed to push a specific agenda rather than conduct an impartial fact-finding mission.
It is a very bogus committee. A committee that is put together just to find certain facts and push a particular candidate away from the candidacy so that we can bring our own you call that a credible fact-finding committee?” she questioned.
Adwoa Safo particularly took issue with the choice of Prof Mike Oquaye as the committee’s chair, citing a conflict of interest. She challenged him to explain why his son, Mike Oquaye Junior lost the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat before passing judgment on the party’s defeat.
Otherwise, that report will not hold in this party,” she said.
She argued that the party should have chosen a more neutral and experienced figure to lead the committee.
His son has lost, and you think he is the best person to lead a fact-finding committee that includes that very constituency? Why not choose an independent person? Couldn’t we find anyone else in the party to chair it?” she asked.
The former MP also rejected any attempt to blame the party’s defeat solely on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, suggesting that the process was being manipulated to discredit him.
We know what we know, and we have heard what we’ve heard. He shouldn’t come and tell us that we should blame everything on Bawumia because Ghanaians don’t want him and that we won’t market him again,” she stated.
She further pointed out that a separate election review report from the Ashanti Region did not blame Bawumia for the party’s loss, arguing that a more experienced individual like Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu should have been tasked with leading the investigation.
The Ashanti report does not blame Bawumia for the party’s defeat, and that is a credible report. Why couldn’t the same person have done this work for the party? Who has more parliamentary and electoral experience than Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu?” she questioned.
Adwoa Safo warned that if the committee’s findings were politically motivated, it would undermine the NPP’s chances of rebuilding and recapturing power.
If this report is manipulated, it means we are not serious about rebuilding, regrouping, or recapturing power,” she said.
A BUSINESSMAN, Daniel Owusu Koranteng, has been remanded in police custody by the Madina District Court, for his alleged involvement in the murder of investigative journalist, Ahmed Divela Suale, in 2019.
The accused, also known as Nana Amakye, would appear again on April 1.
State prosecutors told the court that both Suale and accused were employees of Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Tiger Eye Pi.
Prior to his alleged murder at Madina, the prosecutor said that Koranteng, 35, and Managing Director of ISPY Company, had multiple interactions with the deceased and his family members.
The court heard that tensions escalated in June 2018 when Mr Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member Parliament for Assin Central, in the Central Region, broadcasted images of Ahmed Suale on Net2 TV, calling for retribution against the investigative journalist.
The police stated that Ahmed Suale later identified the accused as the person who provided Mr Agyapong with his photographs.
The prosecution said on January 16, 2019, following the publication of deceased’s images, he was shot and killed at Madina.
It is the case of the prosecution “that call records placed the accused at Madina near Suale’s residence before and at the time of the murder.”
The prosecution noted that further analysis showed that later that same day, the accused travelled from Madina to his residence at Amasaman late in the evening at about 11:15 pm, after the murder.
The court heard that during the investigation, the accused declined multiple police invitations and later fled to the United Kingdom somewhere in August 2019.
The prosecution also revealed that the accused later returned to Ghana and the police arrested him at Amasaman on March 15, 2025.
The prosecution said Koranteng admitted knowing the Suale, visiting Mr Agyapong, and having taken photographs with Suale, but denied selling the photographs to anyone.
The police said investigations were still ongoing to identify other suspects in the case.
The Bank of Ghana has announced that Brij Fintech Ghana has been licensed to facilitate Mobile Money transfers between Ghana and Nigeria.
Brij Fintech Ghana is a licensed Payment Service Provider (PSP), which conducts limited testing of BrijX – a B2B Currency Swap Platform.
In a release sighted by GhanaWeb Business, the BoG said the platform is built to act as a digital marketplace that collaborates with banks, Mobile Money operators, and licensed PSPs to enable direct currency swaps between the Ghanaian Cedi and the Nigerian Naira without the need for forex or movement of funds across borders.
It said: “The pilot, which was approved in 2024 began live testing in February 2025 with MoMo customers and soon with G-Money customers. The testing is safely governed by several restrictions including transaction limits, limits on the number of customers and testing period. The Bank has also ensured the incorporation of Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC) and consumer protection requirements.”
The Bank also debunked claims that MTN Ghana has been licensed to conduct cross-border transactions with MTN in Nigeria.
The Bank said MobileMoney Limited, provider of MoMo from MTN, has not been licensed or authorized to conduct cross-border transactions.
However, as part of its sandbox programme to study emerging fintech innovations, the Bank approved Brij Fintech Ghana, a licensed Payment Service Provider (PSP), to conduct a limited testing of BrijX – a B2B Currency Swap Platform.
“At the end of the pilot, Bank of Ghana will review the results to determine the appropriateness of the BrijX model, to inform future policy. The Bank remains committed to being responsive to stakeholder interests in safe, efficient and affordable cross-border payments particularly in Africa, and will continue regulatory exploration through these and other on-going initiatives,” it added.
Nigerian skit maker and actor, Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has opened up about a personal ordeal that left him bankrupt and buried in a staggering debt of over half a billion naira.
In a post shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, Mr Macaroni revealed that he was a victim of a scam and a failed investment between 2021 and 2022 which wiped out all his savings.
According to him, the incident marked one of the most challenging periods of his life, yet he kept it away from public knowledge.
“You all know I never bring my personal issues to social media. I only wish to share this with my community because I want people to learn from my experience. Also, a part of me won’t rest until I publicly thank God for his grace; therefore I feel obliged to do this,” he wrote.
Reflecting on the toll it took on him, the comedian said the financial loss left him shaken, but he chose to suffer in silence.
“Sometime around 2021/2022 I was victim of a scam and simultaneously a failed investment that cost me all I had saved at the time. It shook me deeply but I told NO ONE about it. If you know me well enough, you would know I do not like to share my problems.”
He added that his theatrical training instilled in him the spirit of resilience, and he kept up public appearances, continuing to entertain despite his inner battles.
“Also, my training in Theatre is that the show must go on. As a Thespian, I have a duty to continue to entertain, inform, educate and use my art to make society a better place. So it didn’t matter whatever it was I was going through. The show must go on!”
The actor narrated how his financial woes escalated after he began borrowing money to meet obligations, assuming he could easily repay with interest from his earnings.
“After I lost all the money I had then, Trouble started when I had to borrow money from different sources to settle all pending commitments and also fulfill certain responsibilities I have always believed were mine to fulfill… I got too comfortable and it took me a long time to realize that I was using the money I was earning to pay back interests. Also, my financial recklessness did not help.”
Mr Macaroni admitted that his generous nature and lack of financial discipline worsened the situation.
“I’m not perfect. I try to be as honest as possible. I am a financially reckless person. I know it. My family and friends have always said it. And this is way before fame… If you are like me, please learn to share your breakfast and keep your money for lunch.”
Despite his belief that he was fulfilling a divine mandate to help others, he conceded that even good intentions must be balanced with responsibility.
“I have somehow attributed that to a mandate from God… But I know that even God does not want us to be reckless.”
He disclosed that even as his career soared in 2024 with acclaimed film roles and international screenings, he battled the pressure of massive debt behind the scenes.
“2024 was a turning point for my Acting career. Two of the films I featured in were screened at international festivals.. my performances in some other films released last year also earned me numerous commendations. However, It was also the most troubling year for me. I was burdened every single day and night knowing that I was over half a billion in debt.”
The situation worsened when he was betrayed by someone he trusted deeply, compounding his emotional distress.
“The last straw was when I was betrayed by someone whom I have always loved as a friend and sister… Such was the level of trust and love.”
However, Mr Macaroni said he eventually summoned the strength to rebuild, with support from family and friends.
The former member of parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sara Adwoa Safo has narrated how Mike Oquaye Jnr attempted to get her removed from a meeting at the 2024 presidential candidate of the NPP Dr Mahamudu Bawumia campaign office.
According to Adwoa Safo, Mike Ocquaye Jnr once said during a meeting at Dr Bawumia’s campaign office that the meeting could not proceed while she was present and that she should be escorted out.

Accra, March 20, GNA – Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has raised concerns over the withdrawal of Burkina Faso, Niger, and Mali from the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF) following Ghana’s full membership in October 2024.
Speaking at a flag-raising ceremony to mark the 55th anniversary of La Francophonie in Accra, he said that Ghana hoped to join a united Organisation that met members’ aspirations, not one burdened by suspicions and departures.
“I shall be remiss if I do not comment on the rather disturbing development within our organisation. It should have been of much greater joy, that Ghana attains full membership and come to join a more united, formidable and rising La Fancophonie which is meeting the hopes and aspirations of its members.
“Unfortunately, we attain full membership at the time some are leaving and at a time of deep troubling suspicion among member countries,” he added.
Mr. Ablakwa told the gathering that Ghana’s full membership sought to bridge cultural divides, foster cultural and educational collaboration, boost diplomatic cooperation, and attract economic investments.
He noted that the milestone aligned with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision to promote good neighbourliness, regional integration, and international relations that drive national development.
The minister expressed hope that Ghana’s membership would symbolize reconciliation and peacebuilding, adding that Ghana, known as a peacemaker, could help address these challenges.
The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has urged organisations to create inclusive work environment that supports the advancement of women in technology.
The minister, who made the call when he delivered a keynote address at the Females in Tech Conference (FEMITECH), 2025 in Accra, said women could easily progress into leadership roles if hiring practices by employers are diversified to enable them contribute their knowledge and skills to achieve results through the use of ICT.
He said women’s biological make-up should not be used against them in their progression at work, but should rather be supported at different phases of their lives, especially as mothers, to build meaningful families.
He said, “It is essential to cultivate work places that promote work-life balance, a flexible working arrangement environment. When women feel supported, they are more likely to thrive well in the industry, contributing their skills and perspectives.”
“Women must be allowed to have children and must not come at the expense of the women progressing in their work. You cannot punish a woman for having children, our work environment should engender their growth,” he added.
Vice President at the Academic City University, Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, for her part, highlighted the need for people to take control of their security and privacy, considering the rate at which people share information about themselves on social media platforms.
She said controlling ones personal security not only protect the digital reputation of people but would also go a long way to prevent cyber criminals from having access to personal information.
“Students should desist from sharing information about themselves at any point in time, especially daily routines where ever you go, to protect your digital reputation and treat your online presence as part of your professional resume,” she stated.
Professor Elsie Effah Kauffman, Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, also advised people in leadership, especially women, to be resilient, invest and influence others in their chosen career.
The annual Females in Tech (FEMITECH) Conference, which is held in celebration of the International Women’s Day (IWD), was held under the theme “Accelerate Action” and organised by the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence.
The event, which brought together industry players, academia, and young women, was also aimed at recognising the contributions of women in ICT as well as encouraging women to take keen interest and aspire for careers in ICT.

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has directed all it members to desist from discussing internal party matters in the media.
The directive was issued by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
He said although the party acknowledges the disappointment and emotional distress caused by our defeat in the 2024 general election, it was proper for members to engage in media interviews and speak about issues that will a negative impact on the party.
Istanbul, Mar. 20, (dpa/GNA) – Turkey’s main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) on Thursday called for fresh protests in at least 14 cities and provinces, a day after the detention of popular Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
The CHP urged supporters to gather outside party offices and town centres Thursday evening, including Istanbul, in defiance of a demonstration ban imposed in the city through Sunday.
Nationwide protests had already erupted on Wednesday.
“No sleep, no stopping for us while mayor Ekrem is in custody,” CHP lawmaker Ali Mahir Başarır wrote on social media platform X.
İmamoğlu, widely seen as a potential challenger to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in the 2028 presidential election, was taken into custody early on Wednesday in a police raid on his Istanbul home over terrorism and corruption allegations.
Erdoğan has yet to comment on the move against the mayor of Turkey’s largest city.
Despite the protest ban, imposed by the Istanbul governor’s office, students at Istanbul University demonstrated for a second consecutive day on Thursday, local media reported. University student groups have also called for wider protests on X.
Officials threaten action against demonstrators
The Istanbul governor’s office warned residents in the city to avoid “unauthorized demonstrations,” threatening legal action against those disrupting public services.
Devlet Bahçeli, leader of the nationalist MHP party and an ally of Erdoğan, condemned the demonstrations on X, accusing the CHP of inciting unrest and warning protesters of “trouble.”
Critics say İmamoğlu’s confinement was politically motivated, with CHP leader Özgür Özel urging supporters to peacefully oppose what he called a “civilian coup.”
The detention order against İmamoğlu and 105 others was followed by a government crackdown on critics.
Turkish police have detained 37 people over social media posts while 261 accounts were separately under investigation for “provocative posts,” Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote Thursday on X.
İmamoğlu’s case sparked domestic and foreign outrage, coming just four days before the secular CHP was set to nominate him as its presidential candidate.
It was not immediately clear if and when İmamoğlu, currently held at the Istanbul police headquarters, would face trial.
If convicted on terrorism charges, İmamoğlu could be removed from office and replaced by a government-affiliated official.
Turkey has previously dismissed mayors from the pro-Kurdish Dem Party and, more recently, the CHP over terrorism-related probes, but ousting the mayor of Istanbul, a city of 16 million, would mark an unprecedented move.
İmamoğlu urges country to stand against ‘evil’
In a defiant statement on X, İmamoğlu wrote: “As a nation we must stand against this evil. This is my call to my people.”
He accused Erdoğan’s government of targeting his family and assets, calling on public officials and the judiciary to resist any abuse of power.
“I trust the honourable Turkish judiciary. You cannot and must not remain silent,” he wrote.
“The mind which seized my diploma will confiscate your property, your honour, your estate, and commit all kinds of usurpation and assault,” İmamoğlu added.
One day before his detention, Istanbul University annulled İmamoğlu’s university diploma, a credential necessary for presidential candidacy.
Authorities also seized a construction firm co-owned by İmamoğlu, according to state news agency Anadolu.
Meanwhile, the CHP said it would proceed with Sunday’s vote to nominate İmamoğlu.
Erdoğan’s party denies ‘coup’ claims
Erdoğan’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) on Thursday strongly denied the opposition’s accusations of a “civilian coup” and that the party had links to the detention orders.
The detentions are part of independent investigations, said party spokesperson Ömer Çelik.
In 2019, for the first time in 25 years, Islamic conservatives in Turkey lost control of the capital Ankara and Istanbul. İmamoğlu was re-elected as Istanbul mayor in the 2024 polls.
The loss of Turkey’s economic powerhouse Istanbul was a major setback for Erdoğan, whose political rise began in Istanbul, where he was elected mayor in 1994.
Germany’s Scholz criticizes Turkey for detention
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the detention of İmamoğlu as a “very, very bad sign.”
The detention of such a central opposition politician is “depressing for democracy in Turkey, but certainly also depressing for relations between Europe and Turkey,” Scholz said on the sidelines of an EU summit in Brussels.
Kennedy Nyarko Osei (L) and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
The Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, Kennedy Nyarko Osei, has stated that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo did not abuse his powers during his presidency to intimidate his opponents or journalists.
The lawmaker drew attention to the existence of free speech and the practice of democracy under the former government, emphasising that even those perceived as opponents of former President Akufo-Addo, as well as journalists who criticised him, were not subjected to intimidation.
Osei stated that Akufo-Addo did not use his powers to suppress individuals who were dissatisfied with his government.
“They say Akufo-Addo was a tyrant, but he never capriciously used his powers to suppress and intimidate his perceived opponents and especially those journalists who took him to the cleaners every morning whilst he was serving as a president,” the lawmaker posted on Facebook on March 20, 2025.
Osei expressed concerns about the current situation, warning that things could worsen if power were to shift from the ruling government.
He voiced his belief that the lawful processes must be followed if people are found to have committed certain crimes, rather than the government employing unlawful tactics to supposedly ‘silence the voices of perceived opponents’.
“If we are not careful as a country, I’m afraid things will get to its uncomfortable state when power changes in the future. If people have committed crimes let’s take them through the prosecution processes instead of employing these intimidating tactics to silence the voices of perceived opponents,” he added.
He strongly condemned the raid on former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr Ernest Addison’s house, on other former government officials, and the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah by state security forces.
However, he assured that the Minority would speak out against any attempts of government intimidation and the culture of silence.
“We want to assure the government that the Minority will stand up to any intimidation from his government and safeguard the constitution of this country. We will use every means necessary to stop this government from the attempts to bring back the era of the culture of silence,” he added.

Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, Robert Klah
Kojo Blak’s hit song ‘Excellent’ failed to secure a nomination for the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs) due to its late release and limited attention within the eligibility period, according to Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Robert Klah, explained that the song, which features Kelvyn Boy, was released towards the end of the eligibility window, from January 1 to December 31, 2024, and did not gain enough attention within that timeframe to compete with other nominated tracks.
“If you release a song and we have a deadline for the year under review, and after two weeks it hasn’t gained enough airplay, publicity, or streams, it means other songs in that category will have an advantage over it,” he said.
He further emphasised that timing plays a crucial role in the selection process, noting that ‘Excellent’ only became a hit song in 2025.
“By December 31, how did it perform compared to other songs in the same category? That’s the key consideration,” he stated.
One would recall that Kelvyn Boy took to his X page and call out Charterhouse for what he described as their habit of engaging in actions that often put them in the negative spotlight during the VGMA season.
He made these statements while questioning why ‘Excellent’ had not received any nominations at the 2025 TGMAs.
Meanwhile, strong allegations have been levelled against board members of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
King Paluta’s ‘Makoma’ Snub and the allegations against TGMAs
The TGMA board has been accused of engaging in corrupt practices that influence nominations and awards.
Entertainment pundit, Nana Ziega, along with many other industry stakeholders, made this claim and stated that there is a culture of favouritism and corruption behind the scenes.
He analysed how these practices have now led to the exclusion of King Paluta’s hit song ‘Makoma’ from key categories on the nomination list.

Dr George Akuffo Dampare served as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from June 2021 to March 2025 when he was fired by President John Dramani Mahama. His appointment as IGP was met with much excitement as expectations were rife that he was going to deal ruthlessly with crime in the country.
Many Ghanaians believed that, based on his past records and capabilities, Dr Dampare could effectively combat crime and resolve major cases, including the unsolved murder cases of high-profile personalities.
However, these expectations were not met as years passed, with justice seemingly eluding the families of victims in several unsolved cases, while suspects remained at large.
Here are some major crimes that happened under the former IGP.
1. Obuasi killings
Hell broke loose at Obuasi, one of Ghana’s major mining communities in the Ashanti Region, on Sunday, January 19, 2025, when personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces clashed with some youth in the area.
For hours, the mining community was like a war zone, with gunshots ringing throughout the community as personnel of the army battled with the youth, who were believed to be small-scale miners.
The incident reportedly occurred after a group of small-scale miners reportedly besieged the mines of AngloGold Ashanti resulting in the deaths of 8 people all of them being small-scale miners.
The case was left unsolved despite a directive from President John Dramani Mahama for an investigation into the incident.
The case is still left open with no arrest made yet.
2. Adabraka jewellery shop heist
In November 2024, a robbery heist occurred at a jewellery shop in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra. The robbers fully armed with rifles stormed the shop in broad daylight and immediately opened fire to scare away people around the vicinity.
The victims were captured in footage loading sacks, reportedly filled with cash, into a parked saloon car. However, just moments after the car began moving, a 4×4 vehicle abruptly blocked its path.
Masked armed men with AK-47 rifles and other firearms emerged from the 4×4 and attacked the driver and a passenger, seizing all the sacks of cash from the car.
Despite a police manhunt for the perpetrators, arrests have since yet to be made.
3. Bullion van robberies
In 2021, a disturbing wave of bullion van robberies swept across several parts of the country, creating widespread fear and panic, particularly among financial institutions and the general public.
Many of these robberies resulted in the tragic deaths of police officers in isolated incidents, with some cases remaining unsolved.
Notable incidents included robberies in areas such as James Town, Adansi Fomena, Spintex Road Baatsona, the Accra-Winneba highway, and an unsuccessful attempt at the North Kaneshie Industrial Area in Accra.
In some of these robberies, intelligence-led operations at the highest level revealed that some rogue police officers were the masterminds behind a number of these crimes. In 2022, two of the police officers implicated in the robberies were shot dead.
4. Lapaz Forex Bureau Robbery
In November 2024, armed robbers attacked a forex bureau at Abeka Lapaz in Accra. The owner of Rahama Forex Bureau, Samuel Addai, giving his account of the attempted robbery said he received a distress call around 11:05 in the morning from his employees, alerting him of the ongoing heist at the facility.
He said he alerted the police, who quickly surrounded the establishment in a bid to arrest the suspects.
The suspects fled the scene, unable to make away with valuables due to the police’s arrival.
5. MoMo robberies
An alarming trend of robberies and murders of Mobile Money operators surfaced across various parts of the country.
In 2025 alone, about three recorded attacks have been reported in the Ashanti Region involving a 25-year-old Mobile Money vendor known as Junior who was found murdered in his room at the Kwadaso Onion Market in Kumasi.
His assailants brutally killed him by slitting his throat with a weapon suspected to be a cutlass or a similar sharp object.
They also tied his hands and legs to the bed and sealed his mouth with duct tape.
The robbers are reported to have bolted with a significant amount of money.
In Krofrom, a 27-year-old MoMo vendor, Patricia Nimako, also met her untimely death in February when she was robbed, shot, and killed by unknown assailants at her shop.
The robbers bolted with GH¢10,000 and some mobile phones.
Another victim at Manso-Asamang, a 33-year-old Mobile Money vendor, was tragically murdered by robbers at Manso-Asamang.
The deceased, Augustine Mensah, was attacked in February while returning home from work after completing a transaction at a customer’s house.

The Minority Leader, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns over what he describes as an attempt by the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to frustrate and intimidate former appointees of the erstwhile Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration.
Speaking at a press conference organized by his caucus on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the Minority Leader accused the government of using party elements recruited into National Security to harass former New Patriotic Party (NPP) appointees.
According to him, the operatives, whom he described as “hungry,” engaged in acts of thievery and robbery during their recent raids on the private residences of their targets.
“At dawn yesterday, specifically at 5 a.m., Richard Jakpa was at it again. This time, he led armed men to the residence of Dr. Addison, the former Governor of the Central Bank.
“According to Jakpa, he had a permit to search the residence of Dr. Addison at his Roman Ridge home. When Dr. Addison inquired further, Jakpa told him they were looking for a vault, which they believed contained cash.
“They forced their way in, overpowered the security, and entered his premises. In fact, at the end of their raid, they could not find anything. Unfortunately for the Governor, some ten thousand cedis on his bed could not be found. Some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use—who parade themselves as National Security operatives—are perhaps not being paid, and so use this opportunity to steal.
“The Governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also missing; they couldn’t be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces,” he stated while condemning the reported raid at the residence of the former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.
The Minority Leader called on President John Dramani Mahama to end the attacks on former appointees of the previous government and not risk creating a negative legacy for himself.
Ghana has recently witnessed a series of controversial security raids targeting the residences of high-profile former appointees of the Nana Akufo-Addo administration, which ended in January 2025 following the NDC’s victory in the December 2024 elections.
The first notable raid occurred on February 11, 2025, when armed individuals, some in military uniforms, stormed the Cantonments home of former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta while he was reportedly abroad for medical treatment.
The motive remains unclear, though speculation initially pointed to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which later denied involvement. CCTV footage identified the raid’s leader as Richard Jakpa, a former military officer and known NDC member.
Ofori-Atta declared wanted by the OSP in early February for alleged corruption, had his status lifted on February 18 after pledging to return voluntarily. He has since sued security operatives for trespass and breach of privacy.
The second incident took place on March 19, 2025, when approximately 20 armed men, led by Richard Jakpa—identified as the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat—raided the Roman Ridge residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison in Accra.
Dr. Addison, who served from 2017 to 2025 and managed financial sector reforms, was home during the dawn operation. The team, some in balaclavas and wielding AK-47s, is said to have disabled CCTV systems and demanded access to a supposed vault, which Addison denied existed.
These raids follow Mahama’s January 2025 inauguration and his establishment of the “Operation Recover All Loot” committee to probe corruption allegations from the prior administration.
The Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has defended the actions as part of ongoing investigations into former officials.
