Whether you like it or not, we will wrestle power from the NDC — Afrifa Mensah

0

According to a report from GhanaWeb, media figure Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has issued a stern caution to former government officials from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have remained silent following the party’s significant loss in the 2024 elections.

In a video posted on April 7 by the NPP Projects Bureau via X, the presenter of For the Records criticized these ex-officials for distancing themselves from national matters and relocating abroad since the party’s fall from power.

He expressed strong disapproval of individuals who, despite previously holding influential roles, have failed to support the party during its time in opposition.

According to him, such individuals should not expect to be considered for roles in any future administration if they are not actively contributing now.

He stressed that academic qualifications alone would not be enough to secure positions in the next government and that loyalty and effort during challenging times are what truly matter.

He emphasized that those currently working hard for the party should be the ones to benefit when it regains control.

Afrifa also voiced confidence that the NPP would reclaim leadership from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), pointing to perceived shortcomings in the current administration under John Mahama.

“Whether you like it or not, we will wrestle power from the NDC. Have you seen what Mahama and the NDC government are doing?” he asked.

Additionally, he cautioned the upcoming NPP flagbearer against appointing close personal acquaintances, particularly romantic partners, to top roles in government, warning that such actions would provoke strong opposition from party loyalists.

Antoine Semenyo believes Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is cut out for the top following his impressive job at the club.

The Spanish trainer is looking to become the first manager to lead the Cherries to play European football as they look to end the season on a high.

Bournemouth sit 10th on the league table and find themselves eight points behind the last European spot, which is occupied by Newcastle United.

Speaking with SuperSport, Semenyo was full of praise for his boss.

“He has the potential to be a top manager. Great guy, player management besides, he’s so good,” he said.

“I feel like he gets on with the players. He gets on with the team so well, and that’s so important. You want to be able to get on with the players off the pitch as well as on the pitch. So I feel like he does a good job of that. Hence why we’re where we are in the table.”

The Ghanaian forward is thriving under the Spaniard this season with nine goals and five assists across all competitions in 35 appearances.

Those figures are Semenyo’s best tally for the club since arriving from Bristol City.

“He’s given me that freedom in attack. He’s seen it in training over and over, where I just feel free, feel relaxed, and I’m just easing, going past players with ease, shooting from long range, getting that success,” he continued.

“So he’s given me that licensing games to do that as well, but I’m also reciprocating and helping in defense and recovery, runs and whatever it is defensively.

“I feel like that’s the reason why I’m getting so much freedom, because I’m doing the defensive job that I need to. So then we get the ball, I’ve got all the space in the world for attacking. So, yeah, he’s giving me that license of freedom.”

Semenyo has scored the third most goals for Bournemouth in the league this season (7) behind Jistin Kluivert (12) and Evanilson (9).

Music isn’t lucrative until artistes cross a certain threshold

0

Ghanaian artiste J Derobie has stated that the Ghanaian music industry does not provide consistent income until an artiste reaches a certain level of success.

The ‘Poverty’ hitmaker, who was previously signed to Mr. Eazi’s ‘Empawa’ music label, established that the perception of musicians earning a steady income can be misleading, especially for those who have not yet broken into the top tier of the industry.

“The music business can be very lucrative, but it doesn’t guarantee daily income. You need to keep working and pushing yourself,” he said in an interview with Headless YouTuber.

According to Derobie, there is a specific threshold that artistes need to cross in order to fully benefit from the industry’s financial potential.

“There’s a specific line to cross, and once you do, that’s when you start to reap the rewards. Many A-list artists, like Mr. Eazi, have crossed that line, and I believe I’m close to doing the same,” he added.

He further emphasised the importance of consistency and hard work as the key factors that will help him reach that point.

J Derobie also recalled a time when the financial rewards from his music career were not coming in.

According to him, he wished he had returned to his office job in Madina, where it was guaranteed that his salary would be paid at the end of each month.

“There was a time the money wasn’t coming in from music, and I honestly wished I had stayed at my office job in Madina. At least there, I knew I’d be paid at the end of the month,” J Derobie added.

Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakariah Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakariah

Ghana has taken a bold step toward reshaping the future of the insurance industry in Africa by hosting the continent’s first-ever Sustainability Insurance Conference.

The three-day event, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, was organised through a collaboration between Ghana’s National Insurance Commission (NIC) and the Secretariat of the Nairobi Declaration on Sustainable Insurance (NDSI).

Held under the theme “Building a New Sustainability Culture for Africa’s Insurance Markets,” the summit convened insurance leaders, policymakers, and regulators from across the continent to explore how sustainability and climate resilience can be integrated into insurance practices.

In a speech delivered on behalf of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the government reiterated its commitment to advancing green financing and sustainable risk management.

“A sustainable insurance industry is essential to protect policyholders,” the statement read, emphasising the need to develop tailored insurance solutions for climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture and renewable energy.

Speaking at the conference, Acting Commissioner of Insurance, Dr. Abiba Zakariah, emphasised the strategic importance of sustainability in Africa’s insurance regulatory frameworks.

“This conference aligns with the NIC’s vision to attract investment, technical expertise, and innovation to Ghana’s insurance sector,” she said.

“We must move beyond traditional compliance models and embrace Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. It is crucial that African regulators embed climate risk disclosures into their regulatory frameworks to build a resilient and future-ready industry,” she added.

Dr. Zakariah further urged stakeholders to see ESG not just as a reporting obligation, but as a transformative tool to strengthen the long-term viability of the insurance sector.

Key industry voices including Philip Lopokoiyit (NDSI Chair and CEO of ICEA Lion Group), Kelvin Massingham (FSD Africa), Emeka Akwiwu (Continental Reinsurance), and Patty K-Martin (NamibRe) highlighted the importance of collaboration between governments and the private sector in driving sustainable insurance solutions.

The conference addressed critical topics such as agricultural and parametric insurance, climate risk mitigation, and sustainable underwriting.

Discussions aimed to reposition the insurance industry as a key player in Africa’s broader development and climate resilience agenda.

The event concluded with a resounding call to action; for stakeholders to transition from dialogue to implementation by adopting concrete policies that bolster both environmental and economic resilience across the continent.

Gown Styles You Can Recreate As A Married Woman

News Hub Creator1h

Gown styles you can recreate as a married woman should reflect elegance, maturity, and modesty while still allowing you to look fashionable. Because marriage often comes with new roles and responsibilities, your outfit choices need to present a respectful and graceful image. Long flowing gowns made with chiffon or silk materials are excellent choices because they provide comfort and a touch of class for both formal and casual occasions. These gowns often come with stylish sleeves, high necklines, or layered designs that help maintain decency without removing beauty.

Wearing A-line gowns with defined waistlines helps highlight your shape modestly, which enhances your feminine appearance without being too revealing. Gowns with subtle embroidery or beadwork on the neckline and sleeves add an extra touch of elegance, which makes them perfect for weddings, church services, or family events. As a married woman, you can also recreate kaftan-style gowns with rich fabrics and bold prints to reflect confidence and maturity. Since these gowns are free and comfortable, they make it easy to move around while still looking regal.

Another great option is the bubu gown, which flows naturally on the body and is often designed with statement sleeves or necklines that draw attention in a respectful way. If you prefer more structure, you can recreate layered or pleated gowns with soft fabric to give your outfit shape and texture. Adding matching accessories such as earrings, headwraps, or a classy handbag helps complete the look and gives you a well-put-together appearance.

Because fashion is a reflection of personal taste and lifestyle, these gown styles can be tailored to suit your individual needs while embracing your married status with pride. By recreating these gown styles, you can maintain a stylish and graceful presence wherever you go, making a lasting impression without saying a word.

BoG disowns criminal use of currency boxes, calls for prosecution

0

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has raised concerns over the misuse of its currency transport boxes, cautioning that repurposing these containers—especially for illegal activities—poses a serious threat to the Bank’s credibility and operations.

This warning follows the discovery of official BoG cash boxes at the centre of a large-scale counterfeiting operation uncovered in Sapeiman.

During an exclusive tour of the crime scene, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, Richard Jakpa, confirmed that the boxes found were authentic BoG property.

“Authorities have verified that these boxes are genuine,” he revealed, raising critical questions about how official financial tools ended up in the hands of a criminal syndicate.

In a statement titled “Use and Misuse of Bank of Ghana Currency Transport Boxes,” the central bank addressed rising public anxiety over the improper use of its wooden cash containers, originally designed for transporting currency securely.

“These boxes are robust, reusable, and well-suited to withstand wear and tear associated with logistics,” the BoG explained, adding that commercial banks often return the boxes empty or occasionally repurpose them for non-currency-related logistics.

However, the Bank noted that some members of the public have obtained and reused the boxes for domestic or commercial purposes, such as storage or general transport. While this kind of casual repurposing is not necessarily illegal, the Bank warned of a sharp difference between such use and criminal exploitation.

“The BoG cannot be associated with any misuse of these boxes for criminal or unauthorized activities,” the statement stressed.

“Reports have emerged indicating that certain individuals are using these boxes to implicate the Bank or undermine public trust in its operations.”

The Bank emphasized that attempts to falsely associate it with illegal conduct through the misuse of its branded property must be treated as a serious offense, and called on law enforcement to intervene.

“Misuse of such boxes for criminal activities must be thoroughly investigated… and all persons found culpable prosecuted,” the BoG stated.

In a time when visuals can easily mislead the public, the central bank urged Ghanaians not to interpret the presence of its branded boxes as a sign of official sanction or involvement.

“A reused currency box does not carry the authority or endorsement of the nation’s central bank,” the BoG concluded, reaffirming its commitment to operational integrity and the safeguarding of public trust.

TUTAG strike halts academic work at Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University

0

Academic activities at the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University (DHLTU) have ground to a halt following an indefinite strike declared by the university’s chapter of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG).

The industrial action, which began on Tuesday, April 8, stems from management’s prolonged failure to address several key concerns raised by the association over the past two years.

Speaking to Channel One TV, Chairman of TUTAG-DHLTU, Mr. Samadu Kamwine, explained that the strike was declared after repeated engagements with the university’s management and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) failed to produce meaningful outcomes.

He revealed that although management had paid two months of Online Teaching Support Allowance (OTSA) arrears, it had failed to provide a clear timeline for settling the remaining 34 months—recently revised to 32 following partial payments.

The association formally notified the university of the strike in a letter dated April 4, 2025, outlining several unresolved grievances.

These include management’s unfulfilled promise, made on March 13, 2025, to settle the OTSA arrears and the lack of an agreed schedule to clear the outstanding balance.

TUTAG is also demanding the immediate payment of the Internally Generated Fund (IGF) component of the End of Service Benefit (ESB) to retired staff, which has seen long delays. Additionally, members have not yet received this year’s OTSA covering January to March 2025.

Beyond financial concerns, the association cited deteriorating conditions for teaching and learning. It highlighted the lack of projectors and other essential Teaching and Learning Materials (TLMs) in lecture theatres.

“The computer laboratory, a crucial resource for ICT students, remains poorly equipped, with most of its computers broken down,” Mr. Kamwine noted. “Similarly, the Fashion Design Studio is facing a shortage of sewing machines, forcing nearly 200 students to rely on just 20 machines.”

Mr. Kamwine further clarified that the strike is not directed at the central government or the Ministry of Education but solely at DHLTU’s management, whom he accused of poor leadership and disregard for staff welfare.

“We’ve done everything possible, including engaging GTEC, but management’s continued silence and inaction have left us with no option but to lay down our tools,” he stated.

The effects of the strike are already being felt across the university. Bashiru Konate-Satar, a level 100 ICT student, expressed concern over the disruption to academic work as mid-semester exams approach.

Final-year student Belinda Abanga echoed the sentiment, saying, “My class arrived on campus expecting lectures, only to discover that all teaching staff had withdrawn their services.”

Despite the strike, TUTAG insists it remains open to dialogue and expressed readiness to extend the academic calendar to recover lost contact hours if their concerns are addressed.

Gradually these award schemes are destroying our music – KOKA

0

Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA

Entertainment critic Kwaku Osei Korankye Asiedu, popularly known as KOKA, has stated that the increasing obsession with awards is harming the growth and authenticity of Ghana’s music industry.

KOKA expressed worry that instead of making music for artistic expression, musicians and industry stakeholders are now more concerned with producing music to win awards.

“These awards are gradually destroying our music. People are writing to cater to awards rather than creating songs for enjoyment. There is now banter among pundits who have become PROs and are fighting amongst themselves,” he said during a panel discussion on Adom TV.

His comments come in the wake of heightened tensions and rumours of intense lobbying between some artistes’ camp ahead of the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

In recent weeks, some entertainment pundits, particularly Vida Adutwumwaa and Mc Portfolio, who now serve as Public Relations Officers for Stonebwoy and King Paluta, respectively, have been openly clashing on social and traditional media platforms, each pushing narratives to favour their preferred artiste for major award categories.

Speaking on these developments, KOKA noted that the ongoing back-and-forth within the artists’ camp has shifted the focus from music quality and audience impact to political manoeuvring and personal agendas.

He fears this could undermine the credibility of the award schemes and distort the true essence of music appreciation in Ghana.

IEA pushes for policy changes to maximise nation’s resource wealth

0

Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice of Ghana (L) Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice of Ghana (L)

Sophia Akuffo, former Chief Justice of Ghana and Distinguished Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), has called for an end to natural resource contracts that give foreign companies an unfair advantage over the country.

Speaking at an IEA press conference on March 24, 2025, under the theme ‘Maximising the Benefits from Ghana’s Natural Resources’, Akuffo stressed that the nation must adopt modern policies that ensure a fair share of resource wealth stays in it – instead of benefitting foreign mining firms.

She explained that the country has vast mineral and petroleum resources worth trillions of dollars, yet it continues to struggle financially.

“The current system allows foreign companies to extract Ghana’s resources and keep most of the profits while the country receives only a small portion in royalties and taxes. This needs to change,” she said.

Despite high taxes, government revenue is often insufficient for development – forcing the country to borrow frequently and seek bailouts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). She believes that proper resource management could ease these financial pressures.

IEA welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s recent announcement of his intention to review all extractive sector agreements and urged him to go further with key reforms.

One of its major recommendations is for government to set up a five-member committee of Ghanaian experts to review and amend all natural resource laws to maximise national benefits.

IEA also called for the nation’s mineral and resource laws to align with international agreements such as the United Nations General Assembly Resolutions 1803 (1962) and 3281 (1974), which emphasise a country’s right to benefit from its own natural wealth.

Additionally, it believes the country should allow local governments to manage some mineral resources so that communities benefit directly.

Another concern raised by the IEA is that the nation’s Constitution gives the president full ownership of all minerals, arguing that this could be one of the reasons the country is not benefitting as much as it should. Instead, it suggests that ownership of minerals should be transferred to the state rather than an individual leader.

Another recommendation is for government to focus on setting up its own mining and oil production companies instead of relying on foreign firms. If this is not possible, the institute proposed that government should at least ensure that local businesses have a fair share in joint partnerships with foreign investors.

IEA also stressed the need for technology transfer in the oil and gas sector, saying the country should ensure that oil agreements include training programmes for citizens so they can gain the skills needed to manage the resources in future.

It further proposed a shift from the current system of concession and royalty payments to a production-sharing system. This means that instead of companies paying the country a small fixed fee, the nation would take a direct share of the profits from resource extraction. IEA said this would increase government revenue.

To improve the country’s bargaining power in future contracts, IEA called for more investment in the Geological Survey Department. It said if the nation has better data on its mineral deposits, it can negotiate stronger agreements with investors.

The Institute said that President Mahama’s renewed interest in resource reform presents a crucial opportunity. It urges him to act decisively, as many countries have successfully adjusted their resource policies to better serve their national interests.

For instance, it said, in the United Kingdom oil and gas companies pay multiple taxes, including a 30 percent corporate tax, a 10 percent supplementary charge and an extra 38 percent energy profits levy. Australia applies a 30 percent tax on mineral resources, in addition to a 30 percent corporate tax. In Qatar, government takes 50 percent of petroleum profits before companies receive their share.

IEA added that some African countries have also introduced changes, citing Tanzania and Botswana as examples of such countries. Moreover, it urges the country to learn from these examples and take steps to secure more benefits from its natural resources.

Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo has formally submitted her written response to the petitions requesting her removal, following a directive from President John Dramani Mahama.

The petitions, which are not yet fully public, are rooted in allegations related to her leadership and administrative decisions.

Latest Ankara Long Gown Styles for Women

0

Ankara fabric, known for its vibrant patterns and bold colors, has become a staple in modern fashion. Over the years, Ankara long gowns have evolved to blend traditional African aesthetics with contemporary trends, making them a popular choice for women seeking style and elegance. These gowns are not only fashionable but also versatile, perfect for both casual outings and formal events.

One of the latest trends in Ankara long gowns is the incorporation of asymmetrical cuts. Designers are playing with different shapes and lengths to create dynamic looks. A gown with an off-center hemline or a high-low cut adds a touch of modernity while maintaining the traditional richness of the fabric. The asymmetry in these designs makes the gowns stand out, offering a refreshing twist on classic styles.

Another popular trend is the use of bold, intricate prints combined with minimalist silhouettes. Gowns that are simple in shape but striking in design are highly favored. These gowns often feature sleeveless or off-shoulder designs, allowing the vibrant Ankara prints to take center stage. The addition of sleek lines and tailored fits creates a sophisticated look that can be worn to both casual and semi-formal occasions.

For those who prefer a more regal appearance, Ankara long gowns with floor-length designs, puffed sleeves, and a fitted waistline are in demand. This style exudes elegance and is perfect for weddings, gala events, or traditional ceremonies. The puffed sleeves give the gown a vintage vibe, while the fitted waistline accentuates the curves, making it flattering for all body types.

Suhuyini leads pepairs of Agric Traffic lights to ease congestion in Tamale

0

The Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, has led efforts to swiftly repair the malfunctioning Agric traffic lights in Tamale, one of the busiest intersections on the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway.

The malfunctioning traffic lights had caused significant vehicular congestion and were linked to a number of minor accidents in recent weeks, raising public concern. In response, a social media campaign calling for immediate action gained traction, prompting the MP to intervene.

Acting through the Ministry of Roads and Highways, in collaboration with the Department of Urban Roads in the Northern Region, Hon. Suhuyini facilitated the repair works to restore order and improve road safety in the area.

During a working visit to inspect the progress of the repairs, Suhuyini urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by protecting it from vandalism and theft.

“Yes, it is installed by the highways authority, but it is serving our purpose. So, when a vehicle hits it, we should take the number and report it to the appropriate authority so that they can also take part in the maintenance and repair.

“Also, when people attempt to steal the cables, let us not just look on and think that it is government property. Because it serves all of us,” he stated.

He also commended all stakeholders, including the Urban Roads Department and engineers involved, for their swift response and dedication to restoring the traffic lights.

Call Ken Agyapong to order..else some of us will rise and speak out against him — Ellen Daaku to NPP

0

According to reports from GhanaWeb, Ellen Ama Daaku, a member of the communications team of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged the party’s leadership to address recent remarks made by former flagbearer hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, which she believes could harm party cohesion.

Ellen criticized Agyapong for allegedly attributing the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s religious identity.

She described such claims as baseless and detrimental to the NPP’s efforts to regroup for future elections.

Speaking in an interview on Movement TV on April 4, 2025, Ellen emphasized the need for solidarity within the party, especially as it works toward rebuilding after the electoral loss.

She warned that continued divisive rhetoric could provoke reactions from supporters of Dr. Bawumia, potentially deepening internal divisions.

She questioned the fairness of blaming Bawumia’s faith for the election outcome and pointed out that Kennedy Agyapong himself had been involved in actions that may have affected the party’s image, including public confrontations with religious figures.

“For Kennedy, is he a Christian? Is he not the same person who fought pastors in this country? He is also a factor that contributed to the loss of the elections. So, the party should call him to order, or else some of us will also rise and begin to speak out against him,” she stated.

Ellen called on party leaders to intervene and address Agyapong’s comments before they escalate.

She stressed that focusing on unity, reconciliation, and forward-thinking strategies is crucial if the NPP intends to regain political ground in upcoming elections.

Govt rules out immediate reduction in transport fares

0

Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured Ghanaians that transport fares will remain unchanged for now, despite recent reductions in fuel prices.

His assurance comes amid growing public calls for a decrease in fares, particularly after previous threats by transport unions to raise prices during fuel hikes.

Speaking on the matter, Mr. Nikpe said the Ministry is in continuous engagement with transport unions and operators, noting that any fare adjustment is guided by a well-established formula.

“I am in constant touch with the unions and transport operators. We have a formula in which we use to either increase or reduce prices, and we have not gotten there yet,” he said.

The Minister emphasised the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to maintain stability in the sector, reassuring commuters that prices will hold steady for now.

“We are in good touch. We are working together, and Ghanaians should be rest assured that prices will be kept for some time before any of the adjustments will be made,” Mr. Nikpe added.

The Ministry’s stance aims to balance commuter relief with the operational sustainability of transport operators, as discussions on possible fare reviews continue.

I really pity Ntim Fordjour because he doesn’t even know who he is speaking for — Kwesi Pratt

0

According to reports from GhanaWeb, Kwesi Pratt Jr, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, has called for clarification regarding the conflicting statements made by Rev. John Ntim Fordjour concerning his claims of potential money laundering and cocaine trafficking at Kotoka International Airport.

In a discussion on Pan African TV on April 6, 2025, Pratt expressed confusion over the varying accounts given by Ntim Fordjour about who he represents in the matter, particularly in relation to the suspicious aircraft that landed in Ghana in March.

Pratt highlighted inconsistencies in the MP’s claims, noting that at one point, Ntim Fordjour said he was speaking on behalf of the Minority in Parliament, but later stated that he was representing a parliamentary committee.

He stated: “I have been listening to Ntim Fordjour and I really pity him, because at his press conference, according to his own claim, he was speaking on behalf of the Minority in Parliament. Then sometime later, the same person is not speaking for the Minority, but he is speaking for a committee of Parliament. So, he doesn’t even know who he is speaking for?”

Pratt also voiced concerns about the lack of clarity in Ntim Fordjour’s statements, which he believes raises significant questions.

He further emphasized that the MP’s claim to represent a committee was questionable since James Agalga, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior, stated that Ntim Fordjour did not speak on behalf of the committee.

Additionally, Pratt noted the inconsistencies in Ntim Fordjour’s statements regarding the situation.

Initially, the MP claimed he had received intelligence about potential drug and money laundering activities that needed further investigation.

However, in subsequent statements, he suggested that Ghana had become a transit hub for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Pratt criticized these conflicting reports, asking, “How do you reconcile these two positions?”

He expressed doubts about the validity of the MP’s claims, particularly regarding the two aircrafts—AirMed Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov An-12B—allegedly carrying drugs and cash into the country.

In response to these claims, former President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

US top court allows Trump to use wartime law for deportations

0

The US Supreme Court has cleared the way for President Donald Trump to use a rarely-invoked wartime powers law to rapidly deport alleged gang members – for now.

A lower court had temporarily blocked the deportation of alleged Venezuelan gang members to El Salvador on 15 March, ruling that the actions under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act needed further scrutiny.

Trump has alleged that the migrants were members of the Tren de Aragua gang “conducting irregular warfare” against the US and could therefore be removed under the Act.

While the administration is claiming the ruling as a win, the justices mandated that deportees must be given a chance to challenge their removal.

“The notice must be afforded within a reasonable time and in such a manner as will allow them to actually seek habeas relief in the proper venue before such removal occurs,” the justices wrote in the unsigned decision on Monday.

“The only question is which court will resolve that challenge,” they wrote.

Monday’s ruling said the challenge – brought by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on behalf of five migrants – was raised improperly in a Washington DC court and not in Texas, where the migrants are confined.

Conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court’s three liberal justices in dissenting with the majority ruling.

In the dissent, they wrote that the administration’s “conduct in this litigation poses an extraordinary threat to the rule of law”.

Trump called the ruling a “great day for justice in America”.

“The Supreme Court has upheld the Rule of Law in our Nation by allowing a President, whoever that may be, to be able to secure our Borders, and protect our families and our Country, itself,” he wrote on Truth Social.

The ACLU also claimed the rulingas “a huge victory”.

“We are disappointed that we will need to start the court process over again in a different venue but the critical point is that the Supreme Court said individuals must be given due process to challenge their removal under the Alien Enemies Act,” lead ACLU attorney Lee Gelernt said in a statement to US media.

At least 137 people have been deported by the Trump administration under the Alien Enemies Act, a move widely condemned by rights groups.

The act, last used in World War Two, grants the US president sweeping powers to order the detention and deportation of natives or citizens of an “enemy” nation without following the usual processes.

It was passed as part of a series of laws in 1798 when the US believed it would enter a war with France.

The Trump administration says all the deportees are members of the Tren de Aragua gang. The powerful multi-national crime group, which Trump recently declared a foreign terrorist organisation, has been accused of sex trafficking, drug smuggling and murders both at home and in major US cities.

US immigration officials have said the detainees were “carefully vetted” and verified as gang members before being flown to El Salvador, under an agreement with that country.

But many of the deportees do not have US criminal records, a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official acknowledged in court documents.

Some relatives of the deported migrants have told the BBC the men have been wrongly swept up in the immigration crackdown, and that they are innocent.

Several other families have said they believe that deportees were mistakenly identified as gang members because of their tattoos.

Monday’s decision vacates an earlier ruling by federal judge James Boasberg, later upheld by a federal appeals court, which had temporarily blocked the use of the law to carry out the deportations.

Boasberg had dismissed the government’s response to his order as “woefully insufficient”. The White House had said the judge’s order itself was not lawful and was issued after two flights carrying the men had already left the US.

Rights groups and some legal experts have called the invocation of the Act unprecedented, arguing it has only previously been used after the US officially declared a war, which under the US constitution only Congress can do.

‘Yet tobacco remains legal’ – John Dumelo reacts to burning of cannabis

Actor and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo Actor and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo

Actor and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo has sparked reactions on social media after he reacted to the police’s recent destruction of 61 bags of cannabis.

It could be recalled that on April 3, 2025, the Volta Regional Police Command burnt 61 sacks containing 40 parcels of the illicit substance in order to prevent the drugs from re-entering the black market.

However, reacting to the news, Dumelo took to his X handle on April 5 with the statement, “… yet cigarettes are legal in Ghana.”

His comment has reignited discussions around Ghana’s drug laws, particularly the Narcotics Control Commission Act 2020, which permits medicinal and industrial cannabis use under strict licensing but bans recreational consumption.

While authorities defend the destruction as necessary for “crime prevention”, critics like Dumelo argue that the policy is inconsistent, given the known health risks of “tobacco”, which remains legally available.

‘Use part of the cocaine money to compensate yourself’

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has responded to a legal threat from Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Special Aide and Presidential Advisor to President John Dramani Mahama.

Her lawyers have accused Abronye of making “false, reckless, and malicious” remarks against her.

In response, Abronye downplayed the seriousness of the lawsuit, claiming the matter would only play out on social media rather than in an actual court of law.

According to him, even if the case proceeds to court, he is fully prepared to face Joyce Bawah Mogtari and will demand that she produce receipts for her recent purchases, particularly expensive handbags, to substantiate his claim that she receives a salary of GH₵ 95,000 at the Jubilee House.

Responding to the GH₵10 million defamation demand from Joyce, Abronye in an interview with Wontumi TV on April 7, 2025, said, “The case will be held on social media and not in a physical court. She says she needs GH₵10 million, well, I can use just 0.1% of the recent cocaine money to compensate her…she should rather use the ‘cocaine money’ to compensate herself.”

He continued, “She even made a mistake; she should have asked for GH₵ 100 million. How have I defamed her? What exactly is her role at the Jubilee House that earns her GH₵ 95,000?”

Abronye further questioned her source of income, saying, “What work is she doing that allows her to afford a bag worth no less than $2,500? When we go to court, I will request that she present all her bags along with receipts, to show where she got the money to buy them.”

In a legal notice dated April 3, 2025, and issued by R.O. Solomon Consulting, Mogtari’s legal team is demanding a full retraction, public apology, and a compensation payment of GH₵10 million for defamation.

The controversy stems from statements Abronye made during an interview on Net 2 TV on March 26, 2025.

In the televised discussion, the outspoken NPP regional chairman alleged that Mogtari had rejected a ministerial appointment in favour of a less demanding presidential staffer role, which he claimed comes with a hefty monthly salary of GH₵95,000.

He further claimed that this supposed financial comfort had made her “disrespectful to everyone in Ghana.”

According to the legal notice, these remarks have since been widely circulated across various platforms, including GhanaWeb and social media, leading to “serious embarrassment and damage” to Mogtari’s reputation.

The letter accuses Abronye of spreading misinformation with no factual basis, asserting that the details of Mogtari’s appointment are a matter of public record and could have easily been verified.

“Our client’s reputation, both personally and professionally, has come under attack due to your statements,” the letter reads.

“She has received numerous phone calls and messages from friends, family, and colleagues questioning the claims.”

Mogtari, through her solicitors, is demanding that Abronye issue a retraction and an unqualified apology. The apology is to be published on all platforms that originally aired or shared the remarks, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM.

Should Abronye fail to comply with the demands, the legal team has indicated its readiness to initiate court proceedings to seek redress for what they describe as a calculated attack on her integrity.

President Mahama vows ‘no mercy’ for illegal miners

President John Dramani Mahama President John Dramani Mahama

Government has vowed to clamp down on illegal mining, calling it a direct threat to the country’s economy and environment, following its widespread devastation across mining regions.

President John Dramani Mahama, in a speech read on his behalf during the Association of China-Ghana Mining’s (ACGM) inauguration in Accra, described the practice as a form of “environmental terrorism” and warned that the state will show no mercy to offenders.

“We consider illegal mining as an act of economic sabotage – one that devastates livelihoods, poisons our water-bodies and degrades our lands,” he stressed.

Against this backdrop, he said, there will be no leniency, no exception and no comfort for those who flout the country’s laws, regardless of nationality, political ties or business clout – adding, “The full force of our laws will be brought to bear”.

President Mahama therefore entreated the Association to steer its members toward strict compliance with Ghana’s mining laws and regulations.

“The Association must serve as a beacon of integrity, ensuring that its members operate within the set legal frameworks of our country, uphold environmental standards, uplift local communities and contribute positively to our nation’s sustainable development agenda.”

President Mahama reaffirmed government’s commitment to working closely with ACGM to enhance and streamline Chinese investment in Ghana’s mining sector.

“Through structured cooperation, we can unlock new opportunities while ensuring that mining activities align with Ghana’s broader developmental and sustainability goals,” he noted.

Furthermore, he emphasised the importance of leveraging China’s expertise in underground mining, low-grade ore development and mining-related technical training to boost efficiency and global competitiveness in Ghana’s mining industry.

“By integrating these advancements, we can build a mining sector that is both economically robust and environmentally sustainable,” he added.

President Mahama was the Guest Honour at the event, represented by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Tong Defa, commended the of the Association’s formation – describing it as a bridge for mutually beneficial cooperation and an important platform for dialogue between governments, businesses and local communities.

“I urge the Association to help Chinese enterprises better integrate into the local market, enhance the quality of collaboration and ensure that our cooperation yields win-win outcomes,” the Ambassador said.

He also encouraged ACGM to focus on job creation, value addition to minerals and community development.

The Chairman of ACGM, Mr. Tang Zhenjiang, in his inaugural remarks outlined the Association’s vision to move beyond profit and serve as a catalyst for positive transformation in Ghana’s mining sector.

“Through this Association, we will unify industry consensus, integrate resources, uphold our social responsibilities and benefit community development,” he stated.

“Together, we will write a new chapter in China-Ghana collaboration and further strengthen the enduring friendship between our nations.”

Tang Zhenjiang also reaffirmed ACGM’s support for national development programmes, including the Youth in Mining Initiative led by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

ACGM pledged to drive capacity building and skills transfer for Ghanaian youth through technical exchanges and collaborative projects.

The ACGM brings together leading Chinese mining enterprises operating in Ghana, including Cardinal Namdini Mining Ltd. (a subsidiary of Shandong Gold Group), Golden Star (Wassa) Ltd. (a subsidiary of Chifeng Gold Group) and other established companies.

As a non-profit platform, the Association aims to promote shared growth, responsible mining practices, community development and technology transfer between China and Ghana.

Beautiful And Mature Outfits You Can Wear On Your Daughter’s Wedding Day As A Mother

News Hub Creator2h

As a mother, choosing a beautiful and mature outfit for your daughter’s wedding day is essential because it reflects your joy, pride, and elegance on her special day. The right attire helps you look graceful, which is important because you will be in the spotlight alongside the bride. Opting for dresses made from quality fabrics like lace, satin, or chiffon gives you a dignified appearance, as these materials flow nicely and provide a refined touch. When you wear outfits with moderate designs such as floor-length gowns or midi dresses with lace sleeves, you project maturity and class, which is necessary for maintaining a graceful image in wedding photos. Soft colors like champagne, navy blue, burgundy, silver, and emerald green are excellent choices because they complement most wedding themes and do not overshadow the bride. These colors are perfect because they show respect for the occasion while enhancing your natural beauty.

Wearing dresses with fitted bodices and flared skirts is ideal because it shapes the body modestly while allowing ease of movement during the ceremony and reception. Including simple but stylish accessories such as pearls, brooches, or elegant hats elevates your overall look, which is important since details contribute to a complete and polished appearance. Low or medium-heeled shoes are advisable because they keep you comfortable throughout the day, especially since you may be required to stand or walk frequently. When you consider your hairstyle and makeup to match your outfit, it results in a harmonious look that draws admiration without being excessive. Choosing outfits that are both fashionable and age-appropriate shows your daughter and the guests that you respect the importance of the day. Ultimately, the goal is to appear radiant and composed, because your presence should represent warmth, support, and timeless beauty as the proud mother of the bride.

I’m really sad about the sudden death of my brother – Speaker of Parliament mourns

Ghana’s political landscape has been struck by a wave of sorrow, as one of its respected figures takes his final bow. The loss has resonated deeply, sparking heartfelt tributes from leaders across the country, including the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. “

I’m really shocked at the sudden departure of my brother,” Hon. Bagbin began his message. In a moving post shared on Facebook, the Speaker revealed the passing of Ambassador Sam Pee Yalley, describing him as a brother, friend, and comrade. Bagbin recalled receiving a message from Yalley on March 29, informing him of his admission to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for an operation. Shocked by the news, Bagbin responded swiftly, offering prayers and requesting more details. The response he received was reassuring: “Rt. Hon, operation has been successfully completed.”

As the days passed, the two continued to communicate. Before leaving the country, Bagbin sent a message and received a safe flight wish through Yalley’s son. Their final exchange came on April 3, when the late diplomat sent a heartfelt note: “Rt. Hon Good Morning, you really showed me that you are a true brother and friend. God richly bless you.”

Bagbin expressed his devastation upon learning of Yalley’s death on April 6, stating he was “drenched in tears and wrapped up in sorrow.” Yet, amid the grief, he celebrated the life of a man he described as full of faith, courage, intellect, and love.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved family and praised the contributions Ambassador Yalley made to the NDC, Ghana, and humanity. “Our son, husband, father, brother and comrade has accomplished what he was sent by God to do on earth,” Bagbin wrote, ending with a solemn farewell: “Comrade, nante yie, breu, breu, breu.”

Bernard Amoabeng, a student at Kumasi Adventist SHS, has been taken into custody by the Ghana Police for shooting his classmate, Suzzy Pinamang, in the face during a classroom altercation with another student, Samuel Manu, at around 9:30am yesterday.

Reports indicate that during the dispute, Amoabeng produced a firearm to demonstrate its functionality. In the process, he allegedly discharged the weapon, accidentally injuring two students. Pinamang sustained a critical gunshot wound to her forehead and was initially taken to Kwadaso Hospital before being transferred to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for advanced care.

The other student who was injured received medical attention for minor wounds and has been released from the hospital. Meanwhile, authorities are looking into how Bernard Amoabeng came into possession of the firearm and are reviewing the school’s security protocols to help prevent such incidents from happening again.

The incident at Kumasi Adventist Senior High School has prompted significant concern among school authorities and law enforcement. The Ghana Police Service is actively investigating how Bernard Amoabeng obtained the firearm and managed to bring it onto the school premises.

Statement released by Ghana Police Service

As a response to the incident, the school’s management is working closely with security authorities to review and enhance current safety measures to avoid future incidents. The situation has also ignited wider conversations about the need for stricter security in schools and the importance of raising student awareness about the risks associated with firearms.

Educating young people on the dangers of firearms and promoting a culture of peace must be at the heart of every school’s mission moving forward.

Mahama’s decision to amend and not repeal LI 2462 surprising – Ashigbey

0

Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, Convener of the Ghana Coalition Against Galamsey, has expressed disappointment in President John Mahama’s decision to amend rather than repeal Legislative Instrument (LI) 2462.

His remarks follow deliberations on amendment of Legislative Instrument (L.I.) 2462, which seeks to repeal the President’s power to grant permits and licenses for mining in forest reserves.

LI 2462, officially known as the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations 2022, currently permits mining in forest reserves if deemed in the national interest.

Ashigbey described the amendment move as insufficient and contrary to the president’s earlier promise to repeal the law fully.

Speaking on the matter in an interview on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday April 7, Ashigbey highlighted Mahama’s swift action in repealing the e-levy within 82 days of taking office, noting that the president had demonstrated his ability to deliver on such promises.

“This is a president who gave a promise to repeal the e-levy law and not in 100 days, in 82 days he was able to convert that manifesto promise into the budget statement, convert it into a bill and sign and gazette it in record time,” he remarked.

Ashigbey criticised the proposed amendment to LI 2462 as shallow, pointing out that it only removes the president’s prerogative to offer global significant biodiversity areas for mining.

He argued that this change would save just 10% of Ghana’s forests, leaving other damaging provisions of the law intact.

“If the president went ahead with his promise that he had given us, what he would have been targeting is to save about 60% of the forest,” Ashigbey stated.

The Convener called on Mahama to fulfill his commitment to repealing the law entirely, emphasising the need for stronger measures to protect Ghana’s forests and biodiversity from the destructive impact of mining activities.

Galamsey Drones: I don’t know their whereabouts, ask Prof Frimpong Boateng

0

Professor Frimpong Boateng [L] and Samuel Abu Jinapor Professor Frimpong Boateng [L] and Samuel Abu Jinapor

The immediate past Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has stated that he has no knowledge of the whereabouts of drones that were supposedly purchased during the Akufo-Addo administration to aid in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

His comment comes after his successor, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, revealed that since assuming office, he has not seen any of the drones reportedly procured by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led government to support the fight against galamsey.

Addressing a gathering of management and staff of the Minerals Commission in Accra on Monday, April 7, 2025, Mr. Buah emphasized the importance of technology in combating illegal mining.

“Technology is very critical in this work. And I think from here, I’m going to see some geo-fencing activities you guys have done here and see how we can even make it bigger and expand it. Yes, there were reports of drones and other things from the Inter-Ministerial Committee.

But I can tell you that it’s probably part of the things we are looking at. I have not seen the drones since I became a minister, and I don’t know exactly where they are,” he noted.

Reacting to the claims in an interview with Joy FM on the same day, Samuel Abu Jinapor, who is also the Member of Parliament for Damongo, said he was neither handed any drones nor received any handover notes indicating that drones had been procured when he assumed office in 2021.

“These drones that are being talked about are drones which were supposedly bought in 2018 by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining, which was headed by Professor Frimpong-Boateng. When I became minister, there was no handover note which suggested that drones had been bought, neither were there any drones handed over to me as minister.

So the correct place to direct the enquiry will be the Minerals Commission, which is the repository of all records about mining, and therefore they should have records of it, and/or the leadership of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining headed by Professor Frimpong-Boateng and his colleagues.”

When asked if he had queried the Inter-Ministerial Committee about the matter during his tenure, the former minister confirmed that he had.

“I made queries and enquiries. There were no records of these drones… they just did not exist at the time I became minister. Were they bought? Were they not bought? How were they handled? All these questions can be answered by the Inter-Ministerial Committee.”

It will be recalled that in 2017, then-Lands Minister John Peter Amewu faced public backlash over the government’s decision to purchase drones worth $3 million.

He explained that the drones were intended to help monitor and curb illegal logging in the country’s forest reserves.

GIPC realises about US$100m in investments under GETP

The GETP is a flagship initiative of government The GETP is a flagship initiative of government

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has secured nearly US$100 million in foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments since 2019 under the Ghana Economic Transformation Project (GETP).

The GETP is a flagship initiative of the government, implemented by the Ministry of Finance with funding from the World Bank. It aims to promote private sector-led growth, economic diversification, and job creation.

Under one of its four components, which focuses on improving the enabling environment for investment and business growth, the project supports key institutions such as GIPC to strengthen their capacity in investment promotion, investor services, and strategic outreach—particularly beyond Accra and the country’s major urban centers.

This support is geared toward creating a robust, decentralized investment ecosystem that drives inclusive economic transformation across all regions of the country.

Gabriel Benaiah Kofi Dake, Senior Operations Officer for GETP at the Ministry of Finance, highlighted these efforts at a brief ceremony in Kumasi, where two Toyota pick-ups procured under the project were formally handed over to support GIPC’s operations in the Ashanti and Northern Regions.

“This gesture is not just about transportation; it symbolizes the project’s commitment to deepening institutional capacity and decentralizing investment promotion,” Mr. Dake said.

“These vehicles will support GIPC’s Ashanti and Northern Regional Offices in fulfilling their mandate—facilitating outreach, investor servicing, and field-based monitoring to unlock investment opportunities beyond Accra.”

He further expressed excitement about GETP’s role in strengthening GIPC’s systems, enhancing strategic outreach, and boosting institutional visibility.

GIPC Chief Executive Officer Simon Madjie expressed appreciation to the World Bank and GETP for the donation. He noted that the vehicles will significantly enhance staff mobility in the Ashanti and Northern Regions, enabling them to engage more effectively with businesses at the grassroots level and facilitate investment that benefits all.

In a related development, GIPC has launched a new 24-hour premium service aimed at enhancing Ghana’s appeal as an investment destination. The service will offer round-the-clock support to investors, ensuring timely assistance and continuous engagement.

PK Sarpong claims that Agya Kwabena has been sidelined and now hosts a Saturday morning program instead of his usual weekday morning show. This new time slot is not very favorable, as it clashes with other TV shows that many Ghanaians already love to watch.

The post reveals that after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came into power, Agya Kwabena allegedly started looking for a government appointment. He reportedly approached some officials in the Mahama-led government and lobbied for a position, using his support for the NDC on his show as a reason to be considered.

He is said to have told them that he often spoke in favor of the NDC and criticized the NPP on live TV. While those he contacted were still thinking about his request, his boss, Fadda Dickson, found out about the move and was not happy with it. This reportedly made the management at UTV realize that some of the complaints about Agya Kwabena being biased and acting like an NDC communicator were true. As a result, they decided to remove him from his popular weekday morning show and move him to a less popular Saturday morning slot.

PK Sarpong’s post seems to confirm suspicions that Agya Kwabena’s fall from the spotlight was due to political bias and unprofessional conduct.

Captivating Second Dress Styles for Stylish African Celebrants

0

For many African celebrants, the journey of celebration often involves more than one outfit change, with the second dress being just as significant as the first. Whether for a wedding, birthday, or special cultural event, the second dress offers an opportunity to embrace bold creativity and personal style. Here are some captivating second dress styles that reflect the vibrant and diverse fashion sensibilities of African celebrants.

One popular option is the African print dress, which celebrates the rich patterns and colors inherent in African culture. Made from fabrics such as Ankara, Kente, or Batik, these dresses can be styled in a variety of ways—from fitted pencil skirts to flowing A-line silhouettes. Vibrant colors like red, gold, blue, and green are often used to create a striking contrast, while intricate patterns symbolize various African traditions and storytelling. A second dress in an African print gives celebrants the chance to flaunt their heritage in a stylish and modern way.

For those seeking a more formal look, the mermaid-style gown is an excellent choice. This dress is fitted through the torso and flares out dramatically at the knee, providing a sleek and flattering silhouette. Whether made in a luxurious satin or a rich African fabric, the mermaid gown can be adorned with beading, sequins, or lace details for added glamour. This style is perfect for evening events or as a statement piece for the reception.

Alternatively, peplum dresses offer a mix of elegance and flair. The peplum silhouette, which features a short, flared layer around the waist, adds structure and drama to any dress. A peplum dress made from African fabric with bold prints can turn heads while providing comfort and ease of movement, making it ideal for dancing and enjoying the celebration.

For a more contemporary and playful style, the high-low dress is an excellent option. With a shorter front hem and a flowing back, this dress gives a modern twist to traditional gowns. Paired with statement heels or accessories, it offers celebrants the freedom to express their personality while still maintaining an air of sophistication.

Lastly, jumpsuits have become a chic and fashionable alternative to traditional dresses. A tailored jumpsuit made from African fabric or luxe materials can make a bold statement, offering both style and comfort. With statement sleeves, wide legs, or a sleek bodice, jumpsuits combine elegance and practicality, ensuring that celebrants can move freely while looking stunning.

In conclusion, the second dress for stylish African celebrants is an opportunity to explore a variety of bold, modern, and culturally significant styles. Whether choosing an African print gown, a mermaid dress, or a chic jumpsuit, these outfits allow celebrants to shine in their unique way while paying tribute to their heritage and sense of personal style.

Fuel Prices May Drop Drastically and Be Cheap, but Ghana’s Oil Revenue Could Suffer Because of Trump

News Hub Creator55min

Reports from Global InfoAnalytics on Facebook reveal that Trump’s policies could hurt Ghana’s oil revenue as global oil prices drop. This decline suggests that demand might weaken, with recessions and gloomy growth forecasts looming.

For Ghana, a fall in oil prices could mean less money from oil exports. This could lead to budget cuts, affecting important public services and development projects under the administration of the current government, President John Dramani Mahama.

However, there’s a silver lining: lower oil prices could lead to cheaper fuel costs for consumers, giving families and businesses some relief from rising expenses.

On a global scale, the news isn’t great either. The US stock market is expected to hit new lows after a sharp fall in futures, following a severe drop in Asian markets. This chaos shows how reckless policies from the American president can impact economies worldwide, including ours in Ghana.

In his own words, Mussa Dankwa, the Executive Director and Head of Global Research at Global InfoAnalytics reported:

“Trump policies could hit Ghana’s oil revenue hard as oil prices plumet suggesting global demand could be hit with recessions and growth forecast globally looking gloomy. The development could however, see massive reduction in fuel prices on the local market US stock market expected to hit new low this morning after US future collapse following Asian market bloodbath. Reckless policies of an American president will touch everyone. We are all in this together. ALL OF US @highlight.”

Donald J. Trump is the 45th President of the United States.

Czech President Petr Pavel is expected in Ghana today (April 8, 2025) for a two-day official visit, marking the first time in over six decades that a Czech or Czechoslovak head of state has visited the West African nation.

The visit is expected to deepen diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two countries.

President Pavel, who is due in Accra on Tuesday following a two-day visit to Mauritania will be formally received at the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s presidency.

He will later hold bilateral talks with President John Dramani Mahama, focusing on economic partnership, trade, and investment opportunities.

The historic visit comes as Ghana, a country of 35 million people, continues to attract global interest for its political stability and growing economy. Tuesday’s discussions are expected to pave the way for stronger collaboration between Ghana and the Czech Republic, particularly in areas such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

On Wednesday, President Pavel is scheduled to take part in several key engagements, including the opening of a Ghana-Czech business forum aimed at fostering partnerships between companies from both nations.

He will also officially inaugurate the Czech House, a new diplomatic and cultural centre that will serve as a hub for bilateral cooperation.

In a show of Czech investment in Ghana’s healthcare sector, President Pavel will also attend the commissioning of a hospital built by a Czech firm, highlighting Prague’s growing footprint in African development projects.

Real Madrid draw up sensational three-man transfer shortlist as they ‘prepare to replace Vinicius Jr’

0

Real Madrid have reportedly drawn up a three-man shortlist as they see as potential replacements for Vinicius Jr.

On Saturday, Madrid lost ground in the race to become La Liga champions after a poor performance against Valencia.

In front of an expectant crowd inside the Bernabeu, Valencia took the lead through Mouctar Diakhaby with 15 minutes on the clock.

Vinicius equalised in the 50th minute but a stoppage-time goal from Hugo Duro sealed a shock 2-1 victory for the visitors.

After Barcelona drew with Real Betis, Madrid are now four points behind Hansi Flick’s men.

Despite scoring against Valencia, it was speculated that Vinicius was booed by a section of the Madrid crowd inside the Bernabeu.

Now, it has been claimed that Madrid could be planning for a future without the Brazilian star.

As reported by Spanish news outlet Fichajes, Madrid are ‘seriously considering’ selling Vinicius in the summer transfer window.

It has been suggested that despite being one of the team’s key players, Vinicius is losing support due to ‘inconsistency, a lack of discipline on and off the pitch, and a growing sense that he has plateaued’.

The likes of manager Carlo Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez are discussing whether to cash in with Saudi Arabian clubs said to have shown interest.

As a result, a three-man shortlist has been drawn up by Los Blancos, which includes Sporting Clube de Portugal talisman Viktor Gyokeres, AC Milan star Rafael Leao and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.

Swedish international Gyokeres is set to be one of the most sought-after players this summer, having been linked with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain.

Meanwhile, Leao has impressed at Milan and it has been claimed that Madrid have long admired the Portuguese winger.

Lastly, Madrid have also been tracking Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Turkish Super Lig side Galatasaray. Parent club Napoli are said to be open to offers in the summer.

According to him, even if the case proceeds to court, he is fully prepared to face Joyce Bawah Mogtari and will demand that she provide receipts for her recent purchases, particularly expensive handbags, to substantiate his claim that she receives a salary of GH₵ 95,000 at the Jubilee House.

Responding to the GH₵10 million defamation demand from Joyce, Abronye said, “The case will be held on social media and not in a physical court.

Western Region: National security uncovers suspected ECG electrical stockpile in Kansawurodo

0

The Western Regional Office of the National Security has uncovered a large stockpile of electrical materials in a surprise operation conducted at Kansawurodo, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis in the Western Region.

The operation, carried out over the weekend, was based on a tip-off and led to the discovery of several valuable electrical items concealed in an uncompleted building suspected to have links to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Items recovered at the site included 46 cable drums, electrical switches, metres, metre cases, iron angle bars, and other critical components believed to be the property of ECG.

Speaking to Channel One News on Monday, April 7, Hashim Torkonu, a National Security operative who led the team, confirmed that two individuals had been picked up for questioning.

He noted that the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the items raise concerns about possible theft or diversion of ECG materials.

“The stocks here are different from the ones that we uncovered in that private residence. That one has been owned by a contractor. The only problem we have with him is how those items got into his private residence. And secondly, what he told us was not the actual list he told us, so we are in the formative period of the investigation,” Mr. Torkonu explained.

He further added, “The regional security coordinator is going to call Accra immediately and take instructions from them on what they need to do. As of now, nobody has owned up to this. We have spoken to the residents as well; they seem not to know the owner of the goods.”

One of the suspects in custody, Evans Lartey, identified himself as a certified ECG contractor and metre supplier. He claimed to have an existing contract with the company.

“I am a metre supplier, so if the ECG needs metres, they contact the metre suppliers for the suppliers to produce the cable for them. I have a contract with the ECG,” Lartey stated.

Meanwhile, the seized items have been secured by the authorities, as investigations continue to determine the origin of the stockpile, the legitimacy of ownership, and whether the materials were acquired or stored unlawfully.

The ECG has yet to officially comment on the matter.
