Moliy’s Grammy Snub: All you need to know

0

On November 7, 2025, the Recording Academy released the full nominee list for the 2026 Grammy Awards. One song Ghanaians, across Africa and around the world, expected to see on the list was Moliy’s “Shake It to The Max,” which features Shensea, Skillibeng, and Silent Addy.

But despite its popularity, the track did not appear in any category.

Moliy’s hit dominated TikTok, Instagram, and other platforms, sparking a global challenge across the Caribbean, Europe, America, Asia, and Africa.

Its absence from the Grammy nominations raised questions from fans, industry players, and forecasters who believed the song had strong chances of securing recognition.

Billboard’s report and Moliy’s label concerns

On November 19, 2025, Billboard published an article titled: “Here’s why ‘Shake It to the Max’ was deemed ineligible at the 2026 Grammys, and why its label calls the decision ‘devoid of any common sense’.”

The story captured the confusion from Moliy’s label, Gamma, which argued that the song’s success and eligibility period should have secured it a spot.

Part of the Billboard article noted that many industry analysts believed the song could have been a strong contender in either Best African Music Performance or Best Global Music Performance had it been nominated. Its absence left many puzzled, including Gamma’s CEO, Larry Jackson.

“Given its blockbuster success, ‘Shake It to the Max’ was widely expected to be a frontrunner in several categories at the 2026 Grammys. In fact, had the song earned a nomination for either best African music performance or best global music performance, many forecasters anticipated a victory. So, when ‘Shake It to the Max’ failed to appear on the final list of 2026 Grammy nominees in any category earlier this month (Nov. 7), listeners across the world were left scratching their heads, none more than gamma. CEO Larry Jackso,” Billboard quoted.

Moliy’s label, Gamma, insisted the song met all the requirements for the 2026 Grammy Awards.

“The ‘Shake It to the Max’ remix arrived within the 2026 Grammys eligibility period on Feb. 21, with new verses from Shenseea and Skillibeng, and a revised intro from Moliy, which satisfies the Recording Academy’s definition of a ‘new recording.’ As per the 68th Grammy Awards Rules & Guidelines, ‘new recordings’ are defined as material that has been recorded within five years of the release date,” the article continued.

The Recording Academy’s explanation

The Recording Academy maintained that while the song was undeniably impactful, it did not meet the eligibility rules for the categories in question.

In a statement to Billboard, the Academy said:
“It really is unfortunate that ‘Shake It to the Max’ isn’t eligible in the best African music performance and best global music performance categories this year. We all acknowledge it is a massive song with significant cultural impact. Unfortunately, but quite simply, it was submitted as a remix, and as per our longstanding and published rules, remixes are just not eligible in these categories. Regardless, our goal is always to honor, respect and fairly represent creators and the music they make — so we will keep working to improve our entry processes and eligibility guidelines.”

48 Hours After Billboard’s article: A Genre Manager said he was fired

On November 21, 2025, just two days after Billboard’s article was published, the former Recording Academy’s Genre Manager, Shawn Thwaites, claimed he was fired from his job.

Shawn Thwaites, who oversaw five categories, Global Music Performance, Best African Music Performance, Contemporary Instrumental, New Age Ambient and Chant, and Global Music Album, posted a video on social media explaining that he enforced the rules as written, the reason ‘Shake it to the Max’ did not make the list.

“On November 21st, I was terminated just 48 hours after Billboard published a story about an eligibility ruling involving the song ‘Shake It To The Max.’ My committee followed Grammy rules exactly as written, and the Vice President of Awards confirmed in writing that my decision was correct. On August 8th, I received a positive performance review and a pay increase, with no warnings, no concerns, and no indication that my job was at risk,” he said.

Shawn Thwaites’ defense of his work with African music

Thwaites stressed that he has always supported African music and would never intentionally undermine it.

“And I want to be clear: I would never snub African music. I am the person who wrote the proposal that created the Best African Music Performance category. I’ve spent years uplifting African artists and building the Academy’s bridge to the continent,” he stated.

He added that he suspects foul play in his termination and suggested a troubling pattern regarding the treatment of ‘Black’ employees at the Academy.

Claims of a disturbing pattern and a call for transparency

According to Thwaites, he was one of several Black employees removed from the awards department during his time there.

Thwaites says he will seek legal support to address the situation, insisting that no one should be penalized for following established rules.

“When I started at the Recording Academy, there were six Black employees in the awards department. One Black colleague was terminated in August, just three months before me, making me the fourth Black employee terminated during my time there. That pattern is deeply concerning. I’m speaking today because transparency matters, fairness matters, and no one should lose their job for following the rules. I am seeking the proper legal support, and I’m standing firmly in my truth,” he added.

How can an MP call a sitting President a ‘dead goat’? – Netizens descend on Annoh Dompreh

0

Frank Annoh Dompreh is the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Frank Annoh Dompreh is the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri

Social media users are criticising the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh, after he referred to President John Dramani Mahama as a “dead goat” during a campaign event.

While addressing NPP delegates on Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Eastern Region, Annoh Dompreh argued that even “a dead goat like Mahama” managed a political comeback.

He claimed that since Mahama once lost power and later returned as president, Dr Bawumia, who has also left office after two terms as vice president, could follow the same path.

Bawumia can return to lead Ghana just as Mahama did – Frank Annoh Dompreh

“If the so-called ‘dead sheep’ could return and become president, and if Mahama could lose power and come back to lead again, then I believe former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia can also return and become president,” he said.

Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, is currently touring the regions to meet delegates ahead of the party’s January 31, 2025, flagbearer election.

The contest is expected to be tight, with Kennedy Agyapong, Kwabena Agyepong, Bryan Acheampong, and Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum also in the race.

Annoh Dompreh’s statements have sparked backlash online, with many questioning the tone and strategy of Bawumia’s campaign team.

One user wrote: “What is really wrong with Dr Bawumia and his communicators? K.T. Hammond, Wontumi, Abronye, KoKa, Atta Kyea, Annoh Dompreh… and the reserve team is Afia Swar, Ghana Jollof and Fante Comedy. What a solid team indeed.”

Another questioned how an MP could make such comments about a sitting president:

“No wonder he was told ‘not to be silly’ by Emefa Hardcastle. How can someone of his level say this about a sitting President? Is this how we want our political discourse to go?”

A third user mocked the statement: “Hehehehe… someone should tell him to stop this foolishness. What has the resurrection power of Jesus got to do with this? If they’ve turned into preachers, they should build a cathedral and start preaching!”

Others warned that such comments could damage the NPP’s chances:

“Honourable, that’s a very careless statement. These small communication mistakes will only harm your party. Ghanaians are already against the NPP, and the NDC is doing its part, handling the economy well so far.”

Government announces 120% tariff increase to bolster NHIS

0

The 120% tariff increase will be a game-changer The 120% tariff increase will be a game-changer

The government, through the Ministry of Health, has announced a major step toward stabilising and strengthening the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) with an average 120% increase in tariffs paid to healthcare service providers, effective in 2026.

The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, during the Government Accountability Series on Monday, December 1, 2025. According to him, the review is a direct response to longstanding complaints from hospitals and clinics that NHIS tariffs had become inadequate and economically unsustainable.

The upward adjustment marks one of the most significant financial interventions in the history of the NHIS, signalling the government’s acknowledgment of the severe financial strain faced by service providers — often resulting in reluctance to accept NHIS patients or a decline in service quality.

Akandoh stressed that the drastic increase is necessary and timely, as it will help restore confidence among healthcare providers and strengthen the overall functioning of the national insurance system.

“Beginning next year [2026], we’re going to increase the tariff in the NHIS to the service providers because it is something the service providers have been complaining about, that the tariffs we give them are unrealistic.”

The minister believes that raising the average payment rate by 120% will fundamentally change the landscape of healthcare delivery in Ghana:

“And so, the government has made the decision to increase the tariff by 120% on average, and I believe this is going to be a game-changer,” Akandoh stated.

‘If it were voodoo, Africa would have a World Cup’ – Aiyegbeni blasts Chelle

0

Yakubu Aiyegbeni is a former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is a former Super Eagles striker

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has criticised Nigeria’s coach, Eric Chelle, for attributing the team’s penalty shootout defeat to Congo to “voodoo.”

Nigeria lost 4–3 on penalties to Congo in the final of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Africa playoffs in Morocco, ending the country’s hopes of securing a place at next year’s tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The defeat means Nigeria have now failed to qualify for the World Cup for the second consecutive time.

Speaking after the game, Chelle had claimed that Congo’s coach sprinkled water on the pitch before each missed Nigerian penalty, suggesting it influenced the outcome.

“During all the penalty sessions, the guy from Congo did some voodoo,” he said.

“Every time, so this is why I was a little nervous after him.”

Reacting, in an interview with Sportscasting, Aiyegbeni described Chelle’s remarks as embarrassing, stating that it was unacceptable for a national team coach to offer such an explanation.

The former Everton forward added that Chelle should have simply congratulated the Congolese team and accepted the defeat gracefully.

His words: It was the first time I heard a Nigeria coach talking about Voodoo. If it was voodoo, I think an African country would have won the World Cup a long time ago. Get to the final and win it. It’s a shame for him to say that and say the coach is pouring water, voodoo.

“He just needed to congratulate the team and say well done for winning, rather than bringing shame to Nigeria. He is a shame to Nigeria, a coach coming out when you just lost a final, then he says it’s because of voodoo, it’s not really a nice way for a coach to comment. Just say we did our best and that they were just unlucky.

“We lost on penalties and he tried to fight someone there, they tried to pull him back, it is not a good look for him and for us, Nigeria too. He better learn from that, coming to the press conference and saying it is Voodoo, you lost the game.”

Aiyegbeni added that the team had enough chances to win the match and must take responsibility for their poor finishing and missed penalties.

“We had chances to win it but we lost it. They all had chances, they all missed chances. But when it comes to penalties, then it is a win-win situation. If you miss it, then they score, then it is gone, which they did. And for us, our penalties were quite poor but it is normally the pressure, when you play for Nigeria, it’s a massive pressure, so the pressure was too much for the players to deal with and it happened,” he said.

He urged the team to move on and focus on the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), noting that the competition begins in a few weeks.

“But we have to focus now on the AFCON, another 25 or 24 days and they are back again. But the coach, it’s a shame for him to come out and say it is voodoo, they’re pouring water, he should just let go.”

I heard about the petition for the removal of the three Chairpersons of EC, It’s unfortunate —Kofi

0

Reverend Emmanuel Kofi has cautioned that frequent changes in the leadership of Ghana’s Electoral Commission could reinforce perceptions of partisanship, potentially undermining the country’s democratic processes.

Speaking in a recent interview, Rev. Kofi addressed concerns surrounding a petition seeking the removal of the three Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission. He described the move as “unfortunate,” warning that replacing leadership every four or eight years, particularly when a new political party assumes power, risks creating the impression that the commission is politically biased.

“In his words, ‘I heard about the petition for the removal of the three Chairpersons of the Electoral Commission. That is unfortunate. If this happens, then we are still going in a partisan way… if we go into the system of every four or eight years changing the Electoral Commission, especially when it is a different political party in power, then we enforce this impression of partisanship even for these offices and that will not be good for our democracy,’” he said.

Rev. Kofi emphasized that the final decision rests with the President, who must study the petition alongside the relevant council to determine the best course of action. He noted that continued actions perceived as partisan could damage public trust in democratic institutions.

He also highlighted the importance of co-responsibility within the Electoral Commission, urging staff to proactively address issues rather than waiting to lodge complaints or petitions. “You see, there is also co-responsibility. If you are a staff and something is not going well, what did you do to correct it, or make your leaders aware? I think it will not be good just to sit and say let me wait, then I can put in a complaint or a petition. We should be one another’s keeper,” Rev. Kofi added.

Rev. Kofi further acknowledged improvements within the commission, noting that officials had implemented changes based on prior recommendations, but stressed that the electoral process “is never perfect” and continuous improvements are necessary.

In the heartbreaking moment captured in a video sighted on Afro Trends on TikTok, the grieving father was seen speaking directly to the body of his son, expressing the unimaginable pain of a parent forced to bury a child.

He spoke about the painful experience he was going through at that moment and how he had come to the realisation that he was never meant to bury his son.

Jojo Mills Robertson explained that he had worked so hard to raise Francis that he believed it would be his son who would one day bury him. He said, I know it is a son who has to bury his father and not a father burying his son.

To this day, the harvest from all the work that I had put into you has been wasted. It was not my will for it to end this way. However, God knows all things, and it was within His will.”

Father of Ghanaian man who stabbed his mother to death speaks

0

Joshua Obinim, a Ghanaian living in the United Kingdom, who was stabbed together with his wife, Alberta Obinim, and their 17-year-old daughter by his son, has opened up on the events that transpired during the tragic incident, which occurred in August 2024.

Speaking in a recent interview on Sky News, Joshua Obinim narrated how his son first attacked and killed his mother before pouncing on his little sister in their home in East Manchester.

He indicated he became aware of the incident during the attack on his 17-year-old daughter, and his attempt to stop it led to his son turning on him.

“I saw my son outside the door of my daughter with a knife. So I asked, ‘What is going on?’ And usually he’s someone who listens to me. So I just said, give me the knife. I stretched forth my left hand, I held the blade, and then he said, ‘Don’t try it.’

“And when I got out, I saw that our neighbours, both of them, were not in. So I crossed over the street, knocking on the door hard and shouting, ‘Help, help!!! Please call police. We need help.’ He just came and met me there, and then he caught my head, so blood was just gushing out. So I did it like this, and then he went into my belly,” he narrated.

He added, “I didn’t know he had already attacked my elder daughter, and my wife had already been killed. I didn’t know that. I thought I was the first person he was attacking, so I was pleading with him not to kill me. Then a neighbour came out, I saw her, and she was shouting at him, ‘Stop, Ben, stop. Don’t do that to your daddy. Don’t do that to your daddy.’ When I was lying on the floor, I said to myself, if help doesn’t arrive within a minute, I know I’ll be dead.”

He indicated that in the weeks before the attack, their son Benjamin had been acting strangely, and as strong Christians, they saw his mental health issues as spiritual.

Emotional video of vigil held for stabbed Ghanaian woman in UK emerges online

“I thought it was a demonic attack that he’s got. He was saying things and saying things. And sometimes I tell him, ‘No, this is not what you’re saying. It is not true. This is not that.’ He was praying a lot, so I was also praying with him and with my wife. Sometimes I pray for him for long hours.

“After his arrest, Benjamin was detained under the Mental Health Act and later diagnosed with schizophrenia,” he said.

He said that if he had been aware that his son’s issue was related to a mental illness, he would have certainly gotten him the necessary medical treatment.

“I had not even heard of that word. If I knew, I would have taken the initiative. I would have done something about it, because praying for someone to get healed doesn’t mean the person doesn’t need medical attention. It’s a regret. It’s a regret. If I knew, I would have done both together — both seek the medical attention and also keep on praying for him.”

Joshua Obinim also told his son, who is currently being confirmed in a mental health facility, that his family has forgiven his actions.

“What I would say to him is that he should be able to forgive himself, and he should remember that we have not stopped loving him. We are forgiving him, so he should forgive himself,” he appealed.

About the incident:

The Ghanaian community in the United Kingdom in August 2025 organised a vigil in memory of a woman, Alberta Obinim, after the incident.

Alberta Obinim, 43, her husband, 64, and their 17-year-old daughter were reportedly stabbed by their 27-year-old son on August 18, 2024, in their family home in Gorton, East Manchester, UK, over a supposed family dispute.

Unfortunately, Alberta died, but her husband and daughter were rushed to the hospital while the suspect was arrested.

Some politicians funding terrorism in Nigeria

0

Lucky Irabor is a former Chief of Defence Staff Lucky Irabor is a former Chief of Defence Staff

Former Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen Lucky Irabor (retd.), December 1, 2025, disclosed that some politicians in the country are exploiting and even fuelling insecurity to gain political advantage, warning that Nigeria’s security challenges are far too complex to be attributed to a single cause.

Irabor made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television on December 1, 2025, where he analysed the layers of criminality driving violence across different parts of the country.

His comments come barely 24 hours after presidential aide Daniel Bwala revealed that the Federal Government was preparing to publicly name individuals financing terrorism.

Speaking on the complexity of Nigeria’s security landscape, Irabor cautioned against sweeping generalisations that place all violent incidents under one categorisation.

According to him, the country faces multiple forms of security threats — ideological, criminal, political and economic — that operate simultaneously.

Ads by

He said: “You can’t hold people for their views, but the reality is that our issues in terms of security challenges are multifaceted.

“Just as we have terrorists who have an ideology, we equally have those who are bent on targeting Christians, and there are also those who are targeting communities, desiring to displace communities and wanting to stay in those communities to be able to have a voice.”

He explained that various violent actors, including terrorists, bandits, community displacers and economic criminals, operate with different motives, making the crisis difficult to simplify.

“If you lump the entire thing into one, the analysis would be wrong,” he said.

Addressing claims that insecurity is purely political, the former defence chief acknowledged that while political motives exist, they do not account for all incidents. “Those who say it is political, that would also be lumping all the issues to say all other issues do not matter — that’s also not correct,” he noted.

While admiting that some political figures have weaponised insecurity for personal gain, the former CDS said: “That does not mean some politicians have not taken advantage of the insecurity to perhaps gain some sort of leverage; to give the impression that they can do better.

“Others perhaps want to score a point that there’s poor governance; they could also instigate crisis in one way or the other.”

Govt rolls out net-metering app to drive solar adoption

0

Government has launched a new digital application to boost the country’s transition to renewable energy by making it easier for households, businesses and institutions to sign onto the national net-metering programme.

Net metering allows consumers who generate electricity through solar PV systems to feed excess power into the national grid in exchange for credits, reducing their overall energy costs.

Speaking at the launch in Accra on Thursday, Deputy Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Richard Gyan-Mensah, said the new web portal is designed to streamline applications and significantly expand solar uptake.

“This user-friendly platform will enable homes, businesses, and industry players to apply for smart meters for both captive and renewable energy systems. It will also allow us to track all solar installations nationwide,” he said.

He noted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to diversify Ghana’s energy mix and is supported by the Government of Ghana, the African Development Bank, the Climate Investment Funds, and the Swiss Government.

Swiss Ambassador Simone Giger said the digital platform will improve document submission, system monitoring, reporting, and data management to enhance accountability across the renewable-energy value chain.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Eunice Biritwum, added that the application will eliminate administrative delays and enhance coordination among partnering institutions, including the Commission and the Energy Ministry.

Country Manager of the African Development Bank Group, Eyerusalem Fasika, highlighted the Bank’s US$27 millioninvestment in Ghana’s renewable-energy drive, noting that the funding supports the ongoing mini-grid PV and net-metering project under the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition.

The new platform is expected to accelerate national solar adoption and provide consumers with a more efficient pathway to clean, affordable energy.

Historic Breakthrough Achieved in Mamprusi-Kusasi Peace Talks at Manhyia

News Hub Creator12h

A momentous achievement in conflict resolution has been recorded as peace talks between the Mamprusi and Kusasi communities yielded a major breakthrough at the Manhyia Palace. The historic mediation, which has drawn widespread celebration across Ghana, marks a significant step toward ending one of the nation’s most persistent ethnic disputes.

The scenes emerging from Manhyia show representatives from both communities engaging in what observers describe as unprecedented displays of unity and reconciliation. Traditional leaders and stakeholders were seen in animated discussions, with visible expressions of satisfaction and relief following the successful conclusion of the talks. The atmosphere at the palace reflected the weight of the moment, as participants recognized the historic nature of their achievement.

The Asantehene’s palace has once again demonstrated its capacity to serve as a neutral and respected venue for resolving complex ethnic disputes. The breakthrough comes after intensive dialogue facilitated by traditional authorities, highlighting the critical role that customary institutions continue to play in Ghana’s governance landscape. The willingness of both parties to engage constructively and reach common ground speaks to a shared desire for peace and development in the affected regions.

This development carries profound implications for the Upper East Region and Ghana as a whole. Communities that have lived under the shadow of intermittent violence can now anticipate a future characterized by stability and cooperation. Economic activities that were previously constrained by security concerns may flourish, while social relationships strained by years of conflict can begin to heal.

The successful mediation also reinforces confidence in traditional conflict resolution mechanisms as viable alternatives to prolonged legal battles or security interventions. As news of the breakthrough spreads, it brings hope not only to the directly affected communities but to all Ghanaians who value peace and national unity. The achievement at Manhyia stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when leaders prioritize dialogue over discord and choose reconciliation over continued division.

Zipline contract: Gov’t spending over half a million dollars on drone services per month — Akandoh

0

Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, has clarified the happenings in the Zipline contract for providing drone services in healthcare delivery.

Speaking at the Government’s Accountability Series Press Conference at the Presidency in Accra, Mr Akandoh recalled that a contract was signed in 2018, which took effect in 2019.

He said as part of the contract, there were clauses known as “take or pay” in the agreement, stating that in the agreement, the contract was so sourced.

“Currently, for every month, the Ghana Government is supposed to pay $88,000 per center a month,” he said.

He said there were six centres, meaning the Government was paying a little over half a million dollars every month for the services of the drones.

“What is more interesting, I think everybody needs to know, is the fact that in the beginning of this contract, the idea was that we’re not going to use the government of Ghana money to pay the services of the drones,” he said.

Quoting from the hanzard of Parliament, the Health Minister said his predecessor, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, on the floor of Parliament was asked about why the signature of the Minister responsible for Finance was missing in the contract.

He said Mr Agyeman-Manu, among other things, said: “Mr Speaker, I would want to stress again that the honorable minister for finance did not put his signature on because this is not going to be done from the consolidated account. The public purse is not going to come in here.”

Mr Akandoh said the whole discussion had to do with the fact that they were not going to pay from the Government of Ghana fund.

He said some other stakeholders were engaged and that he had the opportunity to verify from them, including the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) then; stating that the same argument was advanced.

The Minister said apart from saying this on the floor of the house, the government of Ghana had paid a lot of money to the Zipline.

Mr Akandoh said apart from that, their services were to concentrate on the hard-to-reach areas and emergency services, but upon a review of their activities, it had been realised that the hard-to-reach areas constituted only 12 per cent of the activities, adding that emergency services accounted for four per cent of their activities.

He stated that it was interesting to note that some of the items, they fly included condom, blood donor cards, not blood, mosquito nets, food and nutrition items, adhesive tapes, syringes and needles, and education materials like textbooks, exercise books, and uniforms.

“So, these are some of the items they have been flying. And so when we came to office, we think that there must be value for money. And therefore we are engaging them. So if you hear that we are not engaging Zipline, it’s not true. We have met more than three times, and we are still engaging them to know how we can have value for money.”

Mr Akandoh said the President had directed them to do these; saying “That in our respective ministries, we must make sure that whatever we are doing, we have value for money.”

Eleven Wonders coach Emmanuel Aidoo confident of survival after win over Dreams FC

0

Eleven Wonders head coach Emmanuel Aidoo says he is positive about his team’s chances of avoiding relegation following their crucial victory over Dreams FC.

The Techiman-based side secured all three points after a 2-0 win on Monday, a result that came with added personal significance for the coach.

“Winning against Dreams FC is a great feeling. You know, today is my birthday, so I told my boys, and they asked me what I wanted. I told them to win this match for me, and that’s what they have done,” Aidoo said.

Despite the joy of the victory, the coach made it clear that the celebrations would be short-lived as the team remains in a difficult position on the league table.

“The celebration ends right here because where we are sitting on the league table is not good. We will put these three points somewhere, and we will push for more points in the upcoming games.”

The win provides a vital boost to Eleven Wonders’ survival hopes as they seek to climb out of the relegation zone.

They sit rock bottom with 6 points, trailing 6 points off safety after matchday 12.

Tourism Minister orders service-quality boost ahead of ‘December in Ghana’ visitor surge

0

Minister for Tourism Culture and Creative Arts , Abla Dzifa Gomashie, is urging service providers across the tourism value chain to elevate customer experience ahead of the busy “December in Ghana” season, warning that the country risks losing competitive advantage if visitor-facing standards do not improve.

Speaking to Citi Business News, the Minister said Ghana’s tourism success will increasingly depend on the “soft infrastructure” that shapes visitor experience — from airports and immigration to hotels, car rentals, restaurants and tour operators.

“Tourism is really about movement and the experience of a visitor is not only about the destination; it’s the whole value chain,” she noted.

She stressed that Ghana cannot outspend global markets with attractions like Disneyland or Dubai’s mega-sites, but can outperform them through hospitality and service quality.

“What we can have — which should be free — is a beautiful smile and a beautiful experience,” she said, adding that simple gestures such as offering alternatives with courtesy and regularly checking guest satisfaction form the “soft part of tourism that doesn’t need money.”

With the peak travel season approaching, she called for consistency in the country’s famed warmth.

“December in Ghana is a big deal. Let’s work together to give wonderful experiences to all who are coming back home,” she said, emphasising equal treatment for both foreigners and returning Ghanaians.

Touching on the sector’s economic significance, the Minister said tourism generated more than GH¢4.8 billion last year and expects even stronger performance in 2026 if investments in service quality and ecosystem-wide coordination improve.

She appealed for greater budgetary support to scale industry programmes, while assuring government of the sector’s commitment to deliver higher returns.

“As we ask for more, we are also pledging to bring in more than we did last year,” she said.

She also praised recent gains in macroeconomic stability driven by the Finance Ministry and the Bank of Ghana, saying stable foreign exchange conditions provide a more predictable environment for tourism operators and investors.

Kylian Mbappe spares Los Blancos’ blushes but Trent Alexander-Arnold & Arda Guler fall flat as Barcelona seize initiative in La Liga title race

0

Real Madrid came from behind but were unable to get over the line in a frustrating 1-1 draw with a well-drilled Girona. Kylian Mbappe’s second half penalty cancelled out a well-worked opener from the La Liga strugglers, yet Madrid couldn’t find a second – and stay one point off the top in La Liga in another twist to the title race.

Madrid probed for opportunities early on, but were left rather exposed on the break. Thibaut Courtois responded, though, producing a couple of good saves to keep the visitors level. Los Blancos thought they had taken the lead when Mbappe slotted home, but his goal was correctly chalked off when VAR determined there was a handball in the build-up. The visitors were then made to pay for a major defensive lapse. Girona were allowed to work the ball down the right, before Azzedine Ounahi swept one past Courtois from the top of the box after a well-timed feed from Viktor Tsigankov.

Los Blancos had their chances to start the second half. They had the ball in the net again on the hour mark, but saw it ruled out again after Vinicius Junior was in an offside position when he poked home. Madrid got their equalizer from the spot after 65 minutes. Vinicius scampered around his man and was brought down inside the box. Mbappe coolly tucked the penalty into the bottom corner to ease Xabi Alonso’s nerves on the touchline. Madrid came close numerous times after. Vinicius missed a couple narrowly. Mbappe was denied from close range.

But there was never a second. Girona were resilient at the back, and Madrid lacked a crucial bit of quality needed to put the game away. This can be considered nothing other than a chance to go top wasted, with Barcelona holding the initiative at the La Liga summit.

GOAL rates Real Madrid’s players from Estadio Montivili…

Goalkeeper & Defence

Eder Militao Real Madrid 2025-26

Thibaut Courtois (7/10):

Made a few silly saves. Could do nothing about the goal. Denied a second.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (6/10):

A very Trent performance. Did some ridiculous things with the ball but failed to track his man on the goal.

Eder Militao (7/10):

A composed performance on his return to the side. Good on the ball and effective in the air.

Antonio Rudiger (6/10):

First appearance since late August, and he was a little mixed. Solid on the ball but a little slow to react – and handed Girona a good chance as a result.

Fran Garcia (6/10):

A surprise to see him start at left back. Scampered up and down the left but his final ball was lacking.

Midfield

Jude Bellingham Real Madrid 2025-26

Aurelien Tchouameni (5/10):

Offered plenty of control at the base of midfield, but didn’t get across to track the runner on Girona’s opener.

Jude Bellingham (8/10):

Dropped a little deeper and did plenty of dirty work in the first half. Pushed up more in the second. Madrid’s most consistent performer throughout.

Federico Valverde (6/10):

Full of legs and industry, clean on the ball, but rather stripped of his attacking nous in this role.

Arda Guler (5/10):

Used in a No.10 role in the opening exchanges, but saw his influence wane. Removed at the break. It’s been a tough few games.

Attack

Vinicius Jr

Kylian Mbappe (7/10):

Unfortunate to have a goal ruled out for an unlucky handball. Buried his penalty with ease. Not his most involved game, but got on the scoresheet, regardless.

Vinicius Jr (8/10):

Won the penalty thanks to a lovely bit of skill. Put a couple of others narrowly wide. Very good without being at his scintillating best.

Subs & Manager

Eduardo Camavinga Real Madrid 2025

Eduardo Camavinga (7/10):

Introduced at the break and gave Madrid some much-needed energy and balance in midfield. Seriously impressive thus far this year.

Rodrygo (6/10):

A late introduction as Madrid chased a winner. Barely involved.

Alvaro Carreras (N/A):

No time to make an impact.

Gonzalo Garcia (N/A):

No time to make an impact.

Xabi Alonso (5/10):

Rotated a bit, making changes at left back and centre-back. His side were a bit lacklustre, though, and unconvincing at both ends.

Government urges marketers to help re-tell Ghana’s national story

0

Shamima Muslim, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, has urged Ghana’s marketing and communications industry to take a central role in crafting a renewed national story that reflects the country’s strengths, aspirations and ongoing transformation under the “Resetting Ghana Agenda.”

Addressing industry leaders, innovators and communicators at the 14th Marketing World Awards (MWA) in Accra, Ms. Muslim said Ghana had reached a crucial moment where brand builders and storytellers must become collaborators in shaping a unified, optimistic national identity capable of driving development, attracting investment and strengthening citizen confidence.

She said storytelling had been at the heart of every major national transformation across the world, and Ghana could no longer leave its narrative to chance.

“There is power in storytelling for nation-building. We need you not only as spectators, sometimes disgruntled voters even, but as collaborators at the centre of our national transformative journey,” she said.

Ms. Muslim noted that Ghana possessed unique value propositions that, if deliberately amplified, could position the country as a leading investment, tourism and cultural hub.

These include democratic stability, a talented youthful population, Ghana’s Pan-African symbolism, its expanding creative economy, and its digital innovation landscape, all of which, she said, represented “brand assets” waiting to be elevated.

Drawing parallels with global examples, she cited Rwanda, Singapore, South Korea, Dubai and Kenya as countries that used storytelling to redefine national identity long before their economic transformations became evident.

She said, “A nation becomes the story it deliberately chooses to tell,” she said. “It tells it clearly before it becomes it.”

Ms. Muslim outlined aspects of the Government’s Resetting Ghana Agenda, describing it as a renewed chapter requiring strong private sector partnership to drive economic recovery, governance reforms, innovation and growth.

She highlighted the gains made in fiscal discipline, restored investor confidence and strengthened public financial management as signs of renewed leadership credibility.

She said measures such as the reduction in ministerial appointments, the elimination of waste, limits on foreign travel, and enforcement of accountability among officials demonstrated a shift toward responsible governance.

These reforms, she stressed, laid the foundation for a long-term growth story.

On the 24-Hour Economy initiative, Ms. Muslim said it was designed to expand productivity, create jobs and reposition Ghana as a competitive hub that operates around the clock, and that the success of the initiative depended heavily on private sector innovation, collaboration and investment, not government alone.

She also referenced the Black Star Experience project, a national rebranding initiative aimed at positioning Ghana as the global capital of Pan-African culture, creative arts and tourism, urging marketers to explore how their brands could plug into the emerging national vision.

Ms. Muslim urged communicators and the media to amplify truth-driven narratives about Ghana’s recovery, counter misinformation and rebuild public trust.

“If the cedi is doing well, tell that story. If the economy is rebounding, tell that story too. We are not out of the woods yet, but we are certainly not where we started,” she noted.

She emphasised that a strong national brand lifted corporate brands equally and expanded markets for business growth, adding that “a confident Ghana creates fertile ground for business expansion.”

Ms. Muslim urged marketers and communicators to “hold on to faith and works” in advancing a unified Ghanaian story defined by optimism, discipline, creativity and shared progress.

“Let us tell the story of the Black Star – bold, innovative, unstoppable. When Ghana works, your businesses will grow and our economy will expand. Let us tell our national story with courage, unity and purpose,” she stated.

Akin Naphtal, CEO of InstinctWave, organisers of the Marketing World Awards, who reflected on the evolution of the awards since their inception more than a decade ago, said the

MWA had grown from a West African initiative into a continental platform honouring innovation, creativity and excellence across Africa’s marketing and communications landscape.

Mr. Naphtal said artificial intelligence was reshaping the industry by transforming how brands analysed data, connected with consumers and designed personalised experiences.

However, he stressed that technology could not replace human creativity, emotional intelligence and cultural understanding.

“AI cannot replace the human spirit that drives storytelling, emotional connectivity and authentic brand experience,” he said. “The future belongs to those who merge technology with humanity.”

Established over a decade ago, the Marketing World Awards have become one of Africa’s most respected honours in marketing, communications and brand excellence.

The awards recognise iconic brands, outstanding organisations and high-performing individuals whose innovative strategies, creativity and consumer-focused campaigns have shaped markets across the continent.

Originally launched in Nigeria before expanding to Ghana and later Kenya, the MWA has evolved into a premier Pan-African platform spotlighting excellence in technology, media, sales, public sector communication, advertising and corporate branding.

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will return to lead Ghana just as John Dramani Mahama did after losing power, according to Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh Dompreh.

Speaking to NPP delegates during Dr Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Eastern Region, Annoh Dompreh argued that Mahama’s political comeback sets a precedent.

He said that since Mahama once served as president, left office, and later reclaimed the position, the same could happen to Dr Bawumia, who has also left office after serving two terms as vice president.

“If the so-called ‘dead sheep’ could return and become president, and if Mahama could lose power and come back to lead again, then I believe former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia can also return and become president,” Annoh Dompreh said.

Dr Bawumia, the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, is currently on a regional campaign tour to meet delegates, share his vision, and court support ahead of the party’s flagbearer election scheduled for January 31, 2025.

The race is expected to be competitive, with Bawumia facing opposition from former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong. Other contenders include former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong, Abetifi MP and former Agric Minister Bryan Acheampong, and former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum.

A four-time running mate, a two-term vice president, and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Bawumia has told delegates that his experience and track record make him the most prepared candidate to lead both the party and the nation in 2028.

Can Banks Defy the Ghana Reference Rate to Charge ‘Outrageous’ Loan Rates? Finance Expert Delves In

0

Ghana’s financial environment, for some months now, has been seeing a turnaround as it has recorded a consistent cut in the monetary policy rate, a significant factor in determining interest rates for loans.

However, the reduction in the monetary policy rate does not directly affect the interest rates. It must first pass through the Ghana Reference Rate (GRR). The GRR is computed with factors including the MPR, Treasury Bill Rate, Inflation Rate, and others.

The interest rate you normally receive on your loans from the banks is mostly the GRR plus your risk profile, profit margin, and other factors, depending on your bank.

As Ghana’s policy rate continues to take a nosedive, which is expected to reflect a reduction in the GRR, and hence, a reduction in the lending rate, one big question is echoing across the business community: Can banks simply ignore the Ghana Reference Rate (GRR) and charge high interest rates?

A Senior Finance Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Benjamin Amoah, says the answer is absolutely no. For Dr. Benjamin Amoah, any bank that attempts that path is digging its own grave since competition will not allow it.

Speaking to JoyNews in an interview monitored by The High Street Journal, Dr. Amoah explained that the GRR is more than just a figure published by the Bank of Ghana. It is the “industry-wide benchmark” that guides how banks price their loans.

Can Banks Defy the Ghana Reference Rate to Charge ‘Outrageous’ Loan Rates? Finance Expert Delves In
Dr. Benjamin Amoah, Senior Finance Lecturer, University of Ghana Business School

He says the public should think of it as the starting point on the calculator every lender uses before adding their own margins based on risk and operational costs.

In today’s highly competitive banking market, Dr. Amoah says no bank can afford to pretend the GRR does not exist, especially at a time when it is expected to fall even further due to the recent policy rate cut.

He stressed that borrowers, whether big corporations or everyday businesses, are now more informed and will always compare a bank’s interest rate to the Ghana Reference Rate before deciding where to take a loan. He insists that if a bank sets rates wildly above the benchmark, customers will simply walk away.

“The Ghana Reference Rate is more or less the industry-wide rate. You can call it the starting point for pricing the credit facility. In a competitive environment, a bank cannot ignore the Ghana reference rate. This is an open market, and every single borrower would like to look at the Ghana reference rate to make an investment decision, either to invest or to borrow,” he explained.

He continued, “So it will be difficult for one to conclude that banks will just overlook, especially this period of significant decline in the rate, and go with the mindset that we are going to charge our own rate on the market.”

Can Banks Defy the Ghana Reference Rate to Charge ‘Outrageous’ Loan Rates? Finance Expert Delves In

According to him, no lender wants to be the one struggling to sell loans because its rates are out of touch with market realities. Competition, he said, will force banks to conform, meaning that as the GRR drops, interest rates must respond.

“The market will force you to conform. So definitely, banks will be forced to reduce their rates. They can’t do anything about it. If not, competition will kick you out. In other words, you are going to have problems in selling loans. So definitely, banks will respond to the reduction in the rates,” he emphasized.

With Ghana’s Monetary Policy Committee recently slashing the policy rate, the key driver of the Ghana Reference Rate, analysts expect the benchmark rate to fall in the coming weeks. That means a potential easing in lending rates, offering some relief to struggling businesses and households.

The finance lecturer is assuring the business community that banks cannot ignore the Ghana Reference Rate, no matter how much they might want to protect their profit margins.

The market is watching, borrowers are comparing, and any lender that refuses to adjust will simply price itself out of business.

Most Black Stars players are not good enough to play at the World Cup

Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is the former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe is the former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association

Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called on the technical handlers of the Black Stars to overhaul the squad, citing that most of the current players are not good enough to feature at the 2026 World Cup.

After failing to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament for the first time in over two decades, the four-time African champions made a return to the global stage after finishing at the top of their group with 25 points.

With the team aiming to go past the group phase, Dr Nyaho Tamakloe believes that most of the players who played during the qualifiers are not good enough to feature at the Mundial next summer.

According to him, the technical team led by Otto Addo must overhaul the squad and bring in quality players ahead of the tournament.

“We are going to play at the highest stage of football, and if the country wants to progress, then most of the boys who brought us to where we are today are not good players,” he told Graphic Sports.

The Black Stars will learn their group opponents for the World Cup on Friday, November 5.

Africa nears record $1 trillion in state-owned assets under management

The continent is increasingly turning inward for investment The continent is increasingly turning inward for investment

African state-owned institutions are now managing a record $1 trillion in assets, according to a monthly report from sovereign fund tracker GlobalSWF.

Assets managed by public pension funds, central banks and sovereign wealth funds have grown as the continent is increasingly turning inward for investment due to cuts in concessional finance and aid.

“African (institutions) are at an all-time high, with circa $1 trillion in AuM,” the report said. “Most are designed to catalyze FDI into Africa.”

Most of that is managed by pension funds and central banks, but Africa is also witnessing rapid growth in the number of sovereign wealth funds investing state assets.

Five new sovereign wealth funds launched this year alone, according to GlobalSWF, including BSWF in Botswana, FIS-RDC in the Democratic Republic of Congo, ESWF in Eswatini, KSWF in Kenya, and OSWF in Nigeria’s Oyo state.

The Libyan Investment Authority, with $68 billion in assets under management, is the largest among Africa’s roughly 33 sovereign wealth funds.

Funds in sub-Saharan Africa, however, manage just 1% of the total $14.3 trillion in assets held globally by sovereign wealth funds, according to GlobalSWF data.

A U.N. report in June showed foreign direct investment in Africa jumping 75% in 2024 to $97 billion, but it fell again by 42% year-on-year, opens new tab in the first half of 2025 as trade tensions, high interest rates and geopolitical uncertainty kept investors cautious.

Otumfuo to brief Mahama after landmark joint mediation

0

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is expected to brief President John Dramani Mahama on the just-ended mediation process aimed at bringing lasting peace to the protracted Bawku conflict.

President Mahama tasked the Asantehene to lead the high-level peace effort, which many hoped would finally resolve years of tension and instability in the area.

The session held on Monday, December 1, 2025, marked a breakthrough, as both the Kusaasi and Mamprusi factions sat together before the Asantehene for the first time since the mediation began.

Security around the Manhyia Palace was tight, with both groups undergoing strict checks before being escorted into the palace auditorium.

Sources said that Otumfuo listened extensively to submissions from both factions, urging restraint and assuring them of continued collaboration with the Presidency to end the long-standing impasse.

Outside the palace, supporters of the rival groups erupted in jubilation after the meeting. The celebrations briefly escalated into a misunderstanding, prompting swift intervention from police and military personnel. Additional security was deployed to restore calm.

Both factions are now awaiting official communication from the Manhyia Palace on the next steps in the peace process.

We are stabilising the energy sector – John Jinapor

0

Government has introduced strategic policy interventions in recent months to stabilise the energy sector, John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition, said on Friday.

He said the ongoing reforms were aimed at ensuring energy security, economic stability and sustainable industrial growth, contributing to the end of months of load shedding caused by a 700-megawatt shortfall in December 2024.

Mr Jinapor said this in a speech read on his behalf at the Ninth Ghana Energy Awards in Accra, on the theme: “Repositioning the Energy Sector as a Pillar for National Development.”

He said the theme underscored the transformative role of the energy sector, where all policy initiatives were geared towards building resilience and efficiency.

The Minister said the awards reflected the resilience and collective commitment to building a stronger and more secure energy future for the nation.

The Government was determined to consolidate recent gains while pursuing long-term objectives of energy security, economic stability and industrial growth through sustainable electricity delivery.

“The energy sector is not just about infrastructure and investment; it is about people, professionals and investors who drive the needed growth,” he said.

Mr Jinapor said the Government inherited an energy sector in a difficult state but had since implemented measures to ensure gradual stability.

The reforms cut across the entire value chain, from power generation to distribution, exploration and financing.

The Ministry operated an open-door policy and welcomed ideas from stakeholders to advance development in the sector, he noted.

Mr Kwame Jantuah, the Chairman of the Awarding Panel, said the scheme had positioned itself as a platform for thought leadership, shaping dialogue and driving progress within the energy sector.

The Awards had, over the years, integrated technology to streamline its processes and ensure a modern and efficient experience, he added.

Strategic collaborations with respected partners and stakeholders, he noted, had expanded its impact across the energy value chain.

Mr Henry Teinor, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Energy Awards, said the awards scheme had served as a platform of distinction, prestige and innovation within the energy sector.

It had charted a steady path in celebrating the achievements of individuals and organisations while fostering a culture of excellence that extended beyond national borders, he noted.

“Our journey represents a transformative movement that has redefined the standards of recognition in Ghana’s energy industry,” he said.

Mr Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo, Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, was adjudged the Energy Personality of the Year (Male), while Ms Judith Adjobah Blay, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas Limited, won the Female Energy Personality of the Year.

Even ‘dead goat’ Mahama returned to be President, so will Bawumia – Frank Annoh Dompreh

Frank Annoh Dompreh Wer5Fis8 Frank Annoh Dompreh is the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri

Bawumia is the kind of leader we need; he’s humble and does not insult people – Ama Sey

NDC executives petition Mahama to sack DCE

0

Some executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nanton District of the Northern Region have called on President John Dramani Mahama to remove the District Chief Executive (DCE), Abdul Rahaman Rosina, accusing her of incompetence and engaging in acts that undermine the party’s credibility.

At a press conference in Nanton on Monday, December 1, 2025, the constituency executives argued that the DCE’s continued stay in office poses a threat to the party’s electoral fortunes.

Speaking on behalf of the executives, Mohammed Sharif claimed the DCE had diverted inputs meant for vulnerable farmers under a key government agricultural support programme.

“The government intervention, such as the Savannah Agriculture Value Chain Development Project, is meant to support farmers and reduce poverty. However, we have credible reports that about 600 bags of subsidised fertiliser allocated to the district were diverted and sold to private retailers under the direction of the DCE,” he alleged.

Sharif said the alleged diversion had eroded trust among farmers, a group he described as crucial to the party’s support base.

“This act is a betrayal of the trust of our farmers. It is a departure from the NDC’s principles of accountability and an act of corruption that has angered the very people who stood with the party in difficult times,” he added.

The executives have therefore appealed to President Mahama to intervene immediately and appoint a new DCE, whom they believe can restore confidence and help advance the party’s agenda in the district.

Sammy Darko (L) saud Martin Kpebu (R) failed to answer some questions when he was invited by the OSP Sammy Darko (L) saud Martin Kpebu (R) failed to answer some questions when he was invited by the OSP

Renowned private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has taken a swipe at Sammy Darko, the Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, over the latter’s comments on the office’s investigation into allegations the former made against the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.

Speaking in a recent interview with veteran broadcaster Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), Kpebu said that Sammy Darko goes around giving supposed details of his meeting with the OSP over the allegation, but he would refrain from doing the same.

“First, I was hiding all these things because I felt that what I have to give the Special Prosecutor is extra information. So I don’t like this media attention, but they have been going out — we go and meet quietly, then Sammy Darko comes to put it on air, broadcast it. They attempt to call me. They don’t get me, then Sammy Darko (broadcasts it).

“So it means that they want us to (put everything in the public domain but) of course, I’ve still tried to keep certain details. I don’t want to embarrass them too much. I want to be magnanimous in victory. I’ve won already. I’ve won, so I don’t need to add more, I mean, insult to injury. So I’m still keeping a few details here and there, but he’s the one who has so far publicly put out what happened at the first and second meetings,” he added.

The lawyer laughed at Sammy Darko’s claim that he was “agitated” during questioning by the OSP over the allegation he made against the Special Prosecutor.

He suggested that even if he was agitated, he had cause to be because the OSP’s action showed that they did not know what they were doing.

Kpebu was agitated, failed to answer questions at OSP questioning – Sammy Darko

“He even said that I was agitated. He thought that’s a good report… Assuming I was agitated, is it wrong?… But KSM, it’s so basic. You’re a lawyer. You set up a committee. If you have lay people, people who are not lawyers, who are telling you that can OSP investigate itself? We come to the first meeting, we raise such issues, then you adjourn only to remove the officer we said is conflicted. Then you still bring us a subordinate.

“So if I’m agitated, is it not even justified that you have been too slow? Because we are all lawyers, I thought from the training you can see that if we are saying these are subordinates, they cannot be independent. Your mind should tell you that who is above Kissi, maybe the board, or, let’s form an independent committee. This simple thing they can’t get,” he said.

He added, “And yet Sammy Darko is happy to come and write that Kpebu is agitated. So the agitation tells you that this simple thing, simple law, simple law and logic, you couldn’t get, so why wouldn’t a teacher be agitated that this small thing you can’t get?”

Kpebu went on to repeat his claims that Kissi Agyebeng cannot continue to lead the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) because of his handling of the case against former Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta.

OSP invites Martin Kpebu, media house over comments on Ofori-Atta case – Manasseh

What Sammy Darko said:

In an update on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Sammy Darko claimed that Kpebu honoured another invitation by the OSP on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, after failing to appear on Friday, November 21, 2025, even though he had been informed through his contacts.

Darko said that upon appearing at the OSP on Tuesday, Kpebu declined to answer questions put to him regarding his allegations of corruption against the office.

He added that Kpebu became agitated, causing the questioning to be halted.

“… Another invitation was then issued for Tuesday, 25 November 2025, delivered directly to his office, as was done with the first invitation. When he appeared before the team yesterday, they began by asking questions relating to his specific allegations of corruption.

“He stated that he would not answer any questions, explaining that he was still preparing his materials and preferred to present them before the OSP Board. As the team proceeded with their questions, he became agitated, insisting he would not answer any questions, so they stopped,” he said on Facebook.

Ghana Airports Company assures smooth holiday travel as diaspora arrivals increase

0

The Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, says the company is fully prepared to welcome all members of the diaspora arriving in Ghana for the festive season.

She noted that December has become one of the busiest periods for Ghana’s airports, largely due to the growing number of international visitors participating in “December in GH” activities.

According to her, GACL has been working closely with airlines, security agencies, and tourism partners to ensure that arrivals and departures run smoothly throughout the period.

Yvonne Opare explained that additional staff have been deployed to key terminals to improve passenger flow and reduce waiting times.

She added that the company has enhanced sanitation, safety procedures, and customer service desks to create a more comfortable experience for both first-time visitors and returning travellers.

“We are here to serve the traveling public and to ensure that they travel in security and comfort, and so we welcome all the diasporans this busy season. At our car parks, we are aware of some congestion, and we are making arrangements for an overflow car park so that citizens picking up their loved ones will not stay in long queues,” she told Citi Business News.

The company also emphasised that it remains committed to providing world-class airport services as Ghana continues to grow as a top destination for holiday tourism and cultural events.

Stop the stupid fights! – Prophet Kofi Oduro slams Lumba’s family over funeral dispute

General Overseer of Alabaster International Ministries, Prophet Kofi Oduro, has expressed his thoughts on the ongoing family feud between the late Daddy Lumba’s elder sister and the family head.

In a video shared on social media on November 29, 2025, Prophet Kofi Oduro, while preaching to his congregation, noted that the family of the late Daddy Lumba should put the ongoing dispute to rest.

According to him, the late Daddy Lumba created a great legacy for himself; therefore, the family should set aside their differences and honor his memory.

“Stop it, because the person who has died doesn’t deserve such embarrassment. Let’s honour his (Lumba’s) memory and put aside all these stupid fights. We shouldn’t fight and later go and sit in church as if nothing has happened,” he said.

Recounting a similar incident that happened during the demise of his late father, Prophet Kofi Oduro detailed how he took charge of the burial ceremony to prevent a similar feud from occurring.

“During the burial ceremony, the same fight wanted to happen. During the planning of the funeral, some of my siblings wanted to fight over my father’s body.

“…I took charge and told them I was taking over, and made everyone shut up. I took their money and still went ahead to bury him, and they all fell in line,” he added.

Bawku Conflict Mediation: Why both factions were jubilating

0

Asantehene wrapped up Kusaasi and Mamprusi mediation talks on December 1, 2025 Asantehene wrapped up Kusaasi and Mamprusi mediation talks on December 1, 2025

Following the conclusion of mediation efforts in the long-running Bawku chieftaincy conflict, the streets around Manhyia saw rare scenes of excitement as members of the two opposing factions celebrated the end of the talks led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Although the final outcomes of the discussions are yet to be made public, videos circulating on social media show both sides cheering and dancing. This has raised questions about what the celebrations signal.

Speaking on Joy News on December 1, 2025, Security Analyst Dr Victor Doke said the jubilation likely reflects relief that the long-awaited mediation process has finally wrapped up and that the involvement of the Asantehene has given both groups confidence that their concerns were taken seriously.

Jubilation in Manhyia as Asantehene wraps up Bawku peace talks

“I think the two factions’ jubilation just shows that the long-awaited mediation talks have come to an end, first of all. And then, second, having a mediator in the person of the Asantehene himself gives prominence to the fact that their issues have been taken into consideration and discussed,” he explained.

Dr Victor Doke added that the reactions may not necessarily indicate which side “won” or whether any specific decision has been taken. Instead, he believes the factions may simply be expressing relief that the process has moved forward after years of tension.

“Jubilation comes in various ways and for various reasons. It’s for both factions, maybe because ‘we are just happy things have come to an end and whatnot,’” he said.

According to him, the next step will involve the Asantehene briefing President John Dramani Mahama in the coming days.

He noted that the final recommendations will likely remain confidential between the Asantehene and the President, with even the two factions possibly unaware of the details until government agencies begin implementing them.

“But the actual issue which the Asantehene will now go and brief the President on, trust me, will be kept in secrecy. It is probably only the Asantehene who will know about it, and the two factions may not actually know exactly what his final recommendations will be, except for him and the President,” he noted.

The Security Analyst also stressed that while the celebrations are understandable, the challenge lies ahead in ensuring the peace holds, addressing longstanding rivalries, and creating room for development once the President receives and acts on the final report.

“So, I think it is in the right direction; everybody can jubilate for the fact that mediations have come to an end. But specifically, the core issue now is sustaining the peace and facilitating development. That is what we are looking at as we move toward the day the final issues will be presented to the President for implementation through state agencies and stakeholders,” he stated.

Metropolitan Insurance rebrands as emPLE Insurance Ghana

0

Metropolitan Insurance, one of Ghana’s most established and trusted brands in the insurance industry, has officially transitioned to emPLE Insurance Ghana as part of a continental strategic repositioning by the emPLE Group.

The rebrand marks a major step in the company’s growth journey and reinforces its commitment to delivering enhanced value to customers.

Speaking at the official unveiling of the new brand identity, the Country Head for emPLE Insurance Ghana, Dr. Rafique Daudi, said the company’s mission goes beyond providing insurance products to empowering people.

“For nearly two decades, Metropolitan Ghana has stood as a trusted companion in the life, pensions, and health protection space. We have walked with families through seasons of joy and moments of challenge. We have kept our promises in uncertain times, and through every change, our commitment to people has remained. At the heart of emPLE is a promise.

“We are here to empower people not in a vague sense, but in practical, everyday ways through solutions that matter and trust that endures,” he said.

Dr. Daudi urged clients to embrace the new direction. He indicated that the new brand colours, especially the green identity, symbolise fresh growth. He assured customers that the transformation does not erase the company’s heritage.

“Forget the blue and white that once defined us and remember us by this green vegetation. Indeed, on this side, the grass is greener, just bring your water to make it flourish. As Metropolitan Ghana evolves into emPLE Ghana, we are not losing our identity; we are expanding and entrenching it.” He added.

President of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ghana (IBAG), Shaibu Ali, speaking on the sidelines of the event, welcomed the rebrand, describing it as a move that will energise the insurance market.

“I’m excited about this development, the entry of this new brand onto the Ghanaian market, taking over Metropolitan Life. A new takeover brings new energy, new technology, and new innovation. We look forward to what they bring on board, and as brokers, we hope to leverage it to deepen insurance penetration in the country,” he told Citi News.

The Board Chairman of emPLE Ghana, Kwame-Gazo Agbenyadzie, on his part, highlighted that the rebrand signals a broader mission to elevate African excellence onto the global insurance stage.

He emphasised that empowering people forms the core of the company’s philosophy.

“This is a movement of empowerment, to inspire families, transform industries and place the African family on the global insurance map. Our new brand emPLE is an evolving African story. Our mission is to grow from a West African business into a truly global insurance powerhouse, one that exports African excellence and not just Africa’s raw materials. It means giving people the confidence to dream big.

“It means helping a mother believe that her investment in her child’s education is worth it. It means supporting a young professional to plan for healthcare and a dignified retirement. Above all, it means ensuring our people can access affordable insurance without hardship.” he said.

Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel renews call to end gender-based violence

0

The Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra has strengthened its advocacy against gender-based violence (GBV), urging deeper collaboration among government agencies, law enforcement, and civil society groups.

The pledge was made during the hotel’s Women Empowerment Summit held under the theme, “Breaking the Silence: Advancing Justice, Accountability and Support to End Gender-Based Violence.”

Welcoming participants, the hotel’s General Manager, Isaac Okpoti Adjei, described GBV as a persistent human rights crisis often buried under silence, stigma, and systemic obstacles.

He lamented that survivors continue to face blame, while many perpetrators—particularly influential ones—escape consequences.

“We must move from silence to action. Survivors deserve justice and protection, and perpetrators must face real consequences,” he said.

The summit brought together leading voices from the justice sector, social development institutions, and law enforcement. Among them were:

  • Madam Faustina Acheampong, Director at the Department of Gender (representing the Sector Minister)

  • Her Ladyship Justice Asare Afia Serwah Botwe, Justice of the Court of Appeal

  • Linda Aboah, Ghana Legal Aid Commission

  • ACP Owusua Kyeremeh, Director of DOVVSU, Ghana Police Service

  • Dr. Vanessa Aseye Atikpui, gender advocate and social development expert

Their presence underscored the need for stronger policies, improved survivor-support structures, and a justice system capable of responding swiftly and effectively to GBV cases.

Mr. Adjei outlined Mövenpick’s strategy to contribute to national efforts against GBV, centred on three pillars:

  1. Raising public awareness and education

  2. Promoting understanding of legal protections and justice pathways

  3. Strengthening support systems for survivors

He emphasised the importance of early intervention, calling for expanded school-based education to challenge harmful gender norms before they become entrenched.

Hotel management says the Women Empowerment Summit marks the beginning of a year-long effort to keep GBV issues in the national spotlight.

Mövenpick will roll out a series of workshops, stakeholder dialogues, and collaborative initiatives aimed at reinforcing the national response to gender-based violence.

“As a leading hospitality brand, we believe our platform must contribute to meaningful social change,” Mr. Adjei noted.

“This summit is a call to action to strengthen protections, elevate survivor voices, and build a culture that rejects all forms of violence.”

He urged participants to continue the advocacy beyond the event and work toward a society where all individuals can live free from fear, violence, and discrimination.

’Many would be home if Ghana were half as developed as US’ – Victor Smith urges diasporans to partner investors and return

0

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, has called on Ghanaians living abroad to bring their skills home and partner with investors to support the country’s economic transformation.

Speaking during a series of visits to Ghanaian churches in Worcester, Massachusetts, Ambassador Smith highlighted that the nation’s underdevelopment is a key reason many citizens remain abroad.

“Many would be home if Ghana were half as developed as the U.S.,” he said. “It’s painful to see our people seeking opportunities elsewhere, when they could be contributing to the growth of their own country.”

The Ambassador described his mission in the United States as a drive to attract investors and encourage strategic partnerships with the diaspora. He urged skilled Ghanaians to return home and work alongside investors to create industries, jobs, and sustainable development.

“I am expecting that investors will want people with your kind of skills to partner them in Ghana,” he said. “We need your expertise, your experience, and your innovative approaches to help transform our nation.”

He emphasised that creating well-paying jobs is central to reducing migration and fostering national growth. “Jobs, jobs, jobs — that is the priority. We want fewer people feeling forced to leave the country in search of opportunities,” he added.

Ambassador Smith also announced plans for a more formal engagement with the Ghanaian community in Worcester and the Massachusetts area, where he will hold in-depth discussions on development, investment, and diaspora collaboration.

He concluded by appealing to faith communities to continue praying for Ghana’s leadership and for peace, noting that spiritual support remains crucial to national progress.

Nigerian music legend Innocent Idibia, also known as 2Face, and his new wife, Natasha Osawaru, appeared to quarrel on Daddy Freeze’s Instagram Live on December 1, 2025.

Freeze was conducting the session with 2face’s former management when the singer decided to join in.

2Face could be heard asking her, “What is your problem?”

At one point, Natasha tried to take the phone as the couple shouted at each other before the session ended.

This comes after a video surfaced on social media showing 2Face appearing to be arrested in the UK.

The footage, shared by blogger Tosin Silverdam on TikTok, showed officers speaking with the singer outside what appeared to be a retail store before escorting him away with his hands cuffed behind his back.

‘National Cathedral project is not dead, it’s just on hold’

0

David Adjaye is the architect of the National Cathedral of Ghana. David Adjaye is the architect of the National Cathedral of Ghana.

Internationally acclaimed architect David Adjaye, the designer of the National Cathedral of Ghana, has, for the first time, opened up about the fate of the project, which has been put on hold since 2024.

Speaking in a recent podcast interview with renowned British journalist Tim Abrahams, David Adjaye refuted claims that the current cathedral being constructed will not see the light of day.

According to him, the National Cathedral project is currently on “hold” because the John Dramani Mahama government wants to understand what it inherited from the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo administration which started the project.

“No, it’s not dead. It is funny. I keep thinking this administration might just want to trash it, but I think there was a lot of misunderstanding in the beginning. Because the process was private in a way — it was government, but it was private. So I think there’s a sense with this administration of really understanding what is going on. It may not be a priority but it is certainly …

“It is definitely a national project. Love or hate it, there’s something about this project which activates a sense of urgency about the infrastructure that’s required,” he added.

Spending $400 million on a cathedral is excessive – President Mahama

The renowned architect indicated that the current government has found nothing wrong with the project, even though there are still ongoing audits on it.

“We know this administration is careful, making sure that they have done their forensic examination. So that they can say whether they think there were bad practices or good practices.

“So far, it has passed its tests, but we know they’re still carrying on with forensic testing. But in the meantime, it’s on pause. It is just on pause,” he reiterated.

Ghana’s military upscale tactical prowess for contemporary security challenges

Accra, Dec. 01, GNA – The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have reiterated their resolve to protect the country’s territorial integrity amid the growing insurgencies and contemporary security challenges confronting sub-Saharan Africa.

Major General Lawrence Gbetanu, Chief of the Army Staff, said the military was up to the task, and would not take chances in dealing with existential threats.

“The military high command’s commitment to this venture is unwavering,” he assured while addressing the 15th edition of Exercise Tigers’ Path, at the Akim-Achiase Jungle Warfare School (JWS), in the Eastern Region.

The scope of this year’s Exercise covered tactical drills, including battle procedure, first aid, tactical casualty evacuation, improvised river crossing drills, platoon administration and offensive operations in the jungle, helicopter vectoring and marshalling drills, marksmanship, physical fitness, endurance, confidence building and patrolling techniques.

Since its official opening on November 02, 1976, the JWS, under the operational and administrative control of the Army Training Command, has over the years gained international reputation as a Centre of Excellence in jungle warfare training.

The School’s prominence has become more visible in recent times, particularly at a time when the sub-Region is seeing an upsurge in insurgencies, irregular warfare, violent extremism and terrorism.

Some four million people are currently displaced across Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and neighbouring countries, due to insurgencies and terrorism-related incursions, according to the United Nations (UN).

The International Organisation for Migration’s data shows the number of migrants arriving in Europe from the Sahelian countries rose 62 per cent to 17, 300 in the first six months of 2024 from 10, 700 a year earlier, an increase the UN and IOM blamed on insurgencies.

Major General Gbetanu described the security threats confronting the sub-Region as unpredictable, demanding superior military skills and tactical prowess to overcome them.

“Hence, Exercise Tigers’ Path provides an invaluable opportunity to sharpen combat skills, overcome adversity, reinforce joint operations, and evaluate our response mechanism to both conventional and unconventional threats,” he noted.

Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Codjoe, the JWS Commanding Officer, urged the officers and men participating in the 2025 programme to always abide by the Amed Forces’ code of ethics in their operational duties to ensure discipline.

He reminded the participants that experiences from contemporary trends in insurgency and terrorism made it imperative for the regular forces to have the capability to operate effectively in dealing with existential threats.

Mr Ernest Brogya Genfi, the Deputy Defence Minister, and Lieutenant General William Agyapong, Chief of the Defence Staff, were present at the programme to motivate and boost the morale of the military.

Exercise Tigers’ Path, which commenced in 1991, is a biennial exercise organised on a competitive basis among the services and formations of the GAF, encompassing the Ghana Army, Navy, Airforce, Southern Command, Central Commands, Northern Command, and Supporting Services.

Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has said she has achieved more than her targets in the music industry.

The Love Me Jeje crooner disclosed this during a recent interactive session with fans on X.

A fan asked: “What are you currently looking forward to? Also, would you say you’ve achieved all of your dreams prior to stardom?”

Tems replied: “I’m looking forward to whatever the Lord has in store and honestly I’ve achieved beyond my dreams from when I had a 9-5.”

Tems launched her music career after quitting her job as a digital marketer in January 2018. Later that year, she released her debut single, Mr Rebel, which gained some traction in the media.

However, she rose to prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single Essence, which peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the release of the remix version with Justin Bieber.

In 2023, she became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy after her collaboration with Future and Drake, Wait For U, won the Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards.

In 2025, Tems won the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance, becoming the only Nigerian artist with multiple Grammys.

She also earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for co-writing Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.

The legally married wife of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, Akosua Serwaa, has broken her silence following the conclusion of the family’s long-running legal battle with his other wife, Priscilla Ofori (aka “Odo Broni”).

In a video widely shared on social media, Serwaa, dressed in traditional funeral black, thanked supporters both online and in real life.

She expressed her gratitude to well-wishers, including members of the public, the Legal Wife Team, and prominent allies such as Papa Shee, for standing by her during what she described as “trying times.”

“I want to first thank God, and secondly, all social media platforms and every Ghanaian, Team Legal Wives and husbands of members of Team Legal Wives, Papa Shee… the list is endless. You have shown me love and stood by me in these trying times,” she said.

Serwaa also appealed for unity and encouraged her followers to remain hopeful.

“Let us continue to walk in love. The victory is for all of us. The Bible says that those who put their hope in the Lord will not be disappointed. May God be with us,” she added.

Her statement comes shortly after the ruling of the Kumasi High Court on November 28, 2025, which declared that both Serwaa and Odo Broni are lawful surviving spouses of Daddy Lumba, rejecting Serwaa’s bid to be recognised as the sole surviving wife.

Her lawyer, William Kusi, confirmed that they plan to appeal the decision, maintaining that their substantive case remains valid and that they will pursue all legal avenues to secure what they believe to be Serwaa’s rightful status as a legal wife of the late musician.

Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, the Chief of Bantama, has commended Richard Nii Armah Quaye, President of RNAQ Holdings, for his philanthropic initiatives and prayed for the success and sustainability of the food-bank project the businessman is establishing across Kumasi.

Speaking during Mr Quaye’s courtesy visit to the Bantama Palace, the Bantamahene said, “I have heard your name and the things you’ve been doing. May God bless you. I wish we could have ten people of your kind to help reduce poverty.”

He praised the plan to provide free daily meals and water to vulnerable residents and appealed that the project be protected so it sustains and never collapses, either by human act or any other means. He gave his word that, with these prayers, no business has ever failed on Bantama land.

The President of RNAQ Holdings had already met with Bantama MP Asenso Boakye, who was donating a significant amount of money to support the ongoing Bantama Palace renovation at the palace.

Seeing this as a great move, he used the occasion to pledge his willingness to make the same cash donation to support the project, stating that it would come later.

Quaye had visited the palace to inform the Bantamahene about the RNAQ Foundation’s readiness to open a network of food banks in Kumasi.

He confirmed that one room in the palace has been allocated as the Bantama centre and said the foundation will establish additional outlets at Anloga Junction, Alabar and Asafo.

The centres are intended to offer dignity-preserving, free meals to those who cannot feed themselves, while complementary programmes pursue long-term solutions.

Emphasising the importance of partnership between traditional authorities and private philanthropists, the Bantamahene encouraged other business leaders to support community projects that combine immediate relief with sustainable development.

He thanked Quaye for the initiative and prayed that the food banks would have the desired impact on poverty reduction in the municipality.
