The Zone 7 Police Command in Abuja has arrested a suspect over an alleged fraudulent sale of a defective luxury vehicle and recovered $7,000 from him.
ASP Halima Mohammed said the case was reported on June 19 after a woman claimed she was duped while trying to buy a G-Wagon advertised on Facebook for N32 million.
The complainant, who inspected the vehicle at Ilado Car Stand in Lokogoma, was assured by the suspect that the only fault was with the power steering, which would be fixed within a week.

Trusting the agreement, she paid a $7,000 deposit with a mutual understanding that the funds would be refunded if she chose not to proceed.
However, a follow-up inspection with a certified mechanic revealed several serious electrical and mechanical faults.
When she asked for a refund, the suspect reportedly refused and said no money would be returned unless the vehicle was sold to another buyer.
“The AIG was petitioned over a fraudulent sales transaction… The complainant reported that she saw a Facebook advertisement on June 10 for a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon,” ASP Mohammed confirmed. “Upon investigation, the suspect confessed to the crime, and the sum of $7,000 was recovered.”
Police detectives led by CSP Akinlabi Ogundile apprehended the suspect, who allegedly confessed during interrogation. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to arrest his fleeing accomplice.
The police have urged the public to be cautious of online vehicle purchases and to always verify sellers and terms before making payments.
