Teenage Boy Found Dead After Heavy Rainfall In Gombe

A teenage boy has been confirmed dead in Gombe State after heavy rainfall led to his body being discovered in a gully at Hayin Kwarin Misau Quarters.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, prompting a swift response from the Gombe State Police Command.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, said the distress call came in around 6:30 am and officers were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“We suspect he may have drowned due to the heavy downpour recorded the previous night,” he said.

The boy, believed to be around 15 years old, had no form of identification on him. His remains were taken to the Gombe Specialist Hospital where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

DSP Abdullahi revealed that detectives had documented the scene with photographs and that an investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances of the death.

“We are doing everything possible to identify the deceased and trace his relatives,” he added.

The police have urged members of the public to assist with any information that could help identify the teenager or locate his family.

“We urge members of the public who may have any useful information to kindly come forward or report to the nearest police station,” Abdullahi appealed.

This tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers posed by unchecked gully erosion and poor drainage systems in some urban areas of Gombe, especially during the rainy season.
