Ondo Govt Approves Death Penalty For Kidnapping Offence

Ondo State Government has approved death sentences for anyone convicted of kidnapping in the state.

Speaking on behalf of Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Kayode Ajulo, on Saturday, after the monthly State Executive Council meeting, said that kidnappers will be sentenced to death after conviction.

Ajulo emphasised that the move was part of efforts to strengthen security and ensure the safety of residents across the state.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports Ondo State has recently battled incessant cases of kidnapping, with most of the victims killed and huge ransoms paid by the victims’ families.

Mr. Ajulo also noted that kidnapping and cultism have become major threats to safety and public order.

He maintained that strengthening relevant legal frameworks would help deter such crimes and improve the overall security landscape.

Ajulo said: “The governor, being a lover of the rule of law, would not go the way it’s being done in other states without following necessary court due process.

“We should know that we have investors coming to the state, and as part of the measures, we should ensure we encourage them that they and their investment are safe.”
