Yoruba Politicians Have Betrayed Ijaw”

Former Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, has announced a major political shift, cutting ties with Yoruba politicians and declaring allegiance to Northern leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a  stateent issued on Monday, Asari-Dokubo expressed deep frustration over what he called betrayal by Yoruba political figures. According to him, the Ijaw people had shown unwavering support in past political struggles, only to be abandoned in return.

“The Yorubas have betrayed us. After all we did, they turned their backs on us,” he said, accusing them of disloyalty.

Asari-Dokubo said he now understands why Ijaw elders once alligned with the North and vowed to revive that bond.

“I felt apologetic for our fathers who were not wrong in forming alliances with the North. As young men, we will now continue that same alliance,” he added.

Going forward, he pledged total support for Northern politicians, praising them for their consistency and respect.

“As of today, I will now work, work, work and form alliance with the North to crush out opposition,” he declared.

Asari-Dokubo’s remarks have sparked fresh debate about the future of regional alliances in Nigerian politics, particularly as tensions rise ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His comments are also expected to stir discussions among southern leaders, especially in the South-West, where political realignments and coalition-building are already gaining momentum.
