Mexico Beat USA To Win Gold Cup Back To Back

Mexico came from behind to beat US Men National Team 2-1 in the final of the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football’s Gold Cup.

Chris Richards headed the U.S. into an early lead in the fourth minute, but Raul Jimenez equalised for Mexico less than half an hour later, smashing the ball home from close range.

Jimenez paid tribute to late Diogo Jota with his celebration on Monday.

Mexico dominated the second half and got the winner in the 77th minute with a diving header from Edson Alvarez, which had being ruled out for offside before the video assistant referee showed the West Ham defender was onside.

The Gold Cup featured 16 nations, 15 from North and Central America as well as Saudi Arabia, who had been invited to compete.

All but one of the matches have been held in the United States, with the other one staged in Vancouver, Canada.

Mexico have won two straight Gold Cup titles and are now 6-2 when facing the USMNT in the final of the competition.
