The Edo State Government has confirmed an outbreak of dengue fever, with 86 cases reported across the state.
This adds to the region’s growing health burden, including Lassa fever, yellow fever, monkeypox, and diphtheria.

“We have put measures in place, including surveillance, case management, vector control, and environmental sanitation in affected areas,” he added.
The commissioner explained that dengue fever is a viral infection transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and spreads rapidly in areas with stagnant water and poor sanitation.
He urged residents to destroy mosquito breeding grounds, cover water containers, use insect repellents, and sleep under mosquito nets.
Dr. Oshiomhole also disclosed that Lassa fever has claimed 24 lives from 137 confirmed cases in 2025. Additionally, two cases of yellow fever have been recorded, with one death; eight cases of monkeypox, and eight diphtheria cases, resulting in three deaths.
He assured that the government of Governor Monday Okpebholo is committed to tackling the outbreaks head-on.
“The health and safety of our people remain our top priority, and we will not relent until all outbreaks are under control,” he said.
