The Delta State Police Command has arrested a university student for allegedly stabbing a 100-level female colleague and attempting to extort money from her family.
In a statement issued on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the suspect lured the victim, a student of Southern Delta University, Oleh, to the school auditorium under false pretenses.
“The suspect, who was armed with a kitchen knife, asked her to meet him at the school auditorium,” Edafe said.

“He then stabbed her twice in the neck and chest and left her in a pool of blood.”
Edafe continued, “After attacking her, he picked up her mobile phone and called her father to demand ransom. It is wicked and unacceptable.”

The suspect was paraded before journalists in a video released by the police, with Edafe decrying the moral decline among some youths.
“It’s so sad that some of our boys, due to a lack of home training, are cutting short the lives of innocent girls,” he said.
He added, “We are deeply worried about rising cases of violence among young people in academic institutions. The police will ensure this case is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Though the victim’s condition remains undisclosed, authorities assured that she is receiving medical attention and is being closely monitored.
Edafe concluded, “Let this serve as a warning. Students must know that the law will catch up with anyone who believes violence or crime is a shortcut to power or wealth.”
