“Preliminary investigations revealed that Umar confessed to receiving the sum of five thousand naira (₦5,000) from one Usman Yahaya of Makera Asada area as payment to supply the stolen items.”

The police also noted that Yahaya has a history of similar offences and had been previously prosecuted, suggesting his actions may be part of a broader, organised effort to undermine the economy.

The police stated that both suspects will face court proceedings once the investigation is fully concluded.

In response to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting public infrastructure and tackling all forms of criminal activity.

He urged residents to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities in their communities, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation in tackling vandalism and related offences.

The police gave their assurance that work is in progress to track down and disrupt groups responsible for endangering the state’s essential infrastructure.
