One Rescued As Gunmen Hijack Commercial Bus, Kidnap All Passengers In Benue

Some yet to be identified gunmen has hijacked Benue Links commercial bus at Eke, along the Otukpo-Otukpa road in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.

INFORMATION NIGERIA reports that the criminal elements on Sunday night, robbed the passengers before whisking them into the surrounding bush.

The vehicle, with registration number 14B-143BN, was said to be conveying travellers when it came under attack around 6:30 pm.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Monday, Spokesman for Benue State Police Command, Edet Udeme,  disclosed that the Hummer bus was found abandoned by the roadside in Ugbokolo area of the state.

Udeme noted that during the combing of the surrounding forest, the team rescued one of the victims, identified as Paul Terns, who managed to escape from the abductors.

He assured that additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area to intensify the search for the remaining passengers and ensure their safe return.

He said: “Upon receiving the distress information, police tactical teams, in collaboration with the military and the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, swiftly mobilised to the scene.”
