I Remain SDP Chairman, Ignore Fake Suspension

Suspended National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam, has rejected claims of his suspension, insisting he remains the party’s authentic leader.

Speaking at the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja on Tuesday, Gabam said the announcement of his removal was “fake news” orchestrated by individuals within a coalition allegedly trying to hijack the party.

“I remain the National Chairman of the SDP,” Gabam said, dismissing his suspension as invalid, citing no official NWC meeting and INEC’s rejection of a letter lacking his signature.

Gabam accused unnamed political forces of plotting to destabilize the SDP, saying: “Some people believe they must take SDP or destroy it. They see the party as a threat they can’t control.

“He warned that the misuse of state security institutions to settle political scores could undermine democracy and urged President Bola Tinubu to rein in security agencies being used to support this kind of thing.”

Responding to allegations of financial misconduct, Gabam maintained his innocence, saying all party transactions were documented.

“Everyone’s name is in the account statement. I’m ready to account for my tenure anytime,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the SDP’s NWC, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, said Gabam’s suspension was due to “gross financial misconduct” and that an investigative panel had been set up.

Despite this, Gabam said the crisis had exposed anti-democratic forces, and reaffirmed his leadership of the party.
