Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic in Lokoja, has asked 273 students to withdraw over poor academic performance, expelling six others for examination malpractices.
The institution’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale, in a statement on Monday, said that the development was part of the decisions reached at the 120th meeting of the board held on April 17, 2025, at the boardroom of the polytechnic main campus, located in Lokoja.
Omale expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some students which led to their withdrawal, despite provision of conducive atmosphere for learning for the students.
She noted that the withdrawals spread across 20 departments and 42 programmes, including Business Administration, Accountancy, Fine Art, Building Technology, Civil Engineering and Computer Science.
Other affected departments were Animal Health and Production, Library Science, Mass Communication, Office Technology and Management.
Omale added that six other students were expelled from the polytechnic on account of examination misconduct and related offences.

Omale said: “The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has considered and approved the First Semester results for 2024/2025 Academic Session, with 273 students who performed below expectations asked to withdraw from the institution.
“This was part of the far-reaching decisions at the 120th meeting of the Board held on Thursday 17th April, at the Board Room of the Polytechnic Main Campus, Lokoja.
“He, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some students which led to their withdrawal, despite providing a conducive atmosphere for learning.
“The Central Examination Misconduct Committee, led by Dr Grace Ehimony, investigated the cases thoroughly.
“Following the committee’s recommendation, the board approved the students’ expulsion without delay.”
