A 36-year-old KwaZulu-Natal man, Scebi Nene, has been sentenced to five years in prison for circulating altered pornographic images featuring prominent South African figures.
Nene pleaded guilty in the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court to cyber forgery, cyber uttering, and disclosing intimate data images.
He had superimposed sexual images with faces of President Cyril Ramaphosa, former Police Minister Bheki Cele, Cele’s wife Thembeka Ngcobo, and ex-Police Commissioner Khehla Sithole.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the offenses occurred between September 2022 and May 2023.
Nene claimed he felt targeted and followed in 2018–2019 while working at Coca-Cola and reported the issue to various police units, but no action was taken.
Feeling ignored, he said he resorted to making and sharing the doctored images out of frustration. The court heard he was remorseful and promised not to reoffend.
The images created a false impression that they were authentic.
The sentence reflects the serious nature of cyber crimes and defamation through digital manipulation.
