UCL: Declan Rice Bags Two Free-Kick Goals As Arsenal Shock Real Madrid

Declan Rice scored two breathtaking free-kicks as Arsenal claimed a stunning 3-0 win over Champions League holders Real Madrid in their quarter-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium.

After a goalless first half on Tuesday, the Gunners found their better form in the second half, scoring all three goals within a 17-minute period.

The first free-kick saw Rice whip a sensational effort around the wall and just inside Thibaut Courtois’ left-hand post in the 58th minute.

Arsenal’s night got better when Mikel Merino, again sent a sweetly-struck first-time finish into the bottom corner from the excellent Myles Lewis-Skelly’s square pass.

Real Madrid’s struggle continued into stoppage time, when midfielder Eduardo Camavinga received a second yellow card.

Arsenal have not reached the semi-finals stage of the Champions League since the 2008-09 season, but they have given themselves a huge chance of progressing to the last four with this result.

Also on Tuesday, Inter Milan struck late to put themselves in a strong position in advancing into the Champions League semi-finals after 1-2 victory at Bayern Munich.

The second leg will be played at the San Siro on Wednesday, 16 April, 2025 with the overall winners going on to play either Barcelona or Borussia Dortmund in the two-legged semi-final.
