UCH Doctors Embark On Indefinite Strike Over Partial Power Restoration

Doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan have begun an indefinite strike due to the partial restoration of electricity in the hospital’s residential quarters.

The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) at UCH took the decision after some parts of the residential quarters remained without power.

According to the General Secretary of the association, Dr. Uthman Adedeji, the strike was unavoidable despite the management’s efforts to restore electricity.

As revealed by News Agency of Nigeria, he stated, “Arising from the just-concluded Emergency General Meeting of ARD UCH which was convened to appraise the current situation, it was observed that a part of the residential quarters were reconnected. Some other parts were however left in darkness.”

Dr. Adedeji emphasized that the association acknowledges the management’s efforts but insists that more needs to be done to guarantee uninterrupted service delivery.

He added, “We are left with no other option than to embark on the earlier planned total and indefinite strike until all residential quarters are sorted.”

The strike is expected to impact healthcare services at the hospital until the issue is resolved.

The association has assured that it will regularly review the situation and work towards finding a solution.
