FUTA VC, Prof Oti Recounts How She Was Threatened, Enticed With Money To Rig Election

The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Akure, Prof Nnenna Oti has revealed how she was threatened, offered financial incentives in order to manipulate election results. The Vice Chancellor was the INEC’s Returning Officer during the Abia State governorship election.

Before the final declaration of winner, there was a delay in the announcement of result from Obingwa local government area of the state which caused tension among contenders and other stakeholders as confirmed by Channels.

The FUTA Vice Chancellor made these remarks while receiving a rousing welcome from management and staffs of the university. According to her, “I have never defrauded anyone, all I did was to declare the riot act as follows; every vote must count”.

It is a standard practice by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to nominate Vice Chancellors of tertiary institutions as Returning Officers. This has been the usual practice for more than a decade.
