Owo King Reveals What He Did When Angry Youths Wanted to Retaliate For Church Attack

The Olowo of Owo Kingdom, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye, revealed details of the aftermath of the attack on the St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State. In his interview with Peter Dada, Oba Ogunoye said he learned angry youths wanted to begin an action against the Fulani/Hausa community in Owo.

Speaking on the planned retaliation, Oba Ogunoye said, “Yes! The intended retaliation was made known to me many hours after the incident. A large number of our youths emerged, visibly enraged. I found out that some individuals in Owo intended to launch an action against the Fulani/Hausa community, so I had to call everyone and tell them that retaliating against Hausa and Fulani people would harm innocent people, and I didn’t want a problem in my domain. Over the years, these Hausa/Fulani people have lived among us, going about their lawful business without issues.

He continued, “So I instructed them to cease any such plans since I know the criminals who masterminded and carried out the heinous act do not live among us. Those who carried out the incident have fled; they should allow security agencies to complete their task in terms of investigation and possible arrest of those responsible. I get along seamlessly with the non-native residents who live with us. They all agreed with me, and each of them went home in a mournful mood, so we’ve been mourning ever since.

Oba Ogunoye commended the Amotekun security corps and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for their continuous efforts.
