Queen Elizabeth tests positive for covid-19, says Palace

Britain’s 95-year-old Queen Elizabeth II has tested positive for covid-19. This was confirmed by Buckingham Palace in a statement issued by the Palace on Sunday.

According to Channels Television, the statement said, “Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week.”

Nine killed in Kwara road accident

Nine persons have repeatedly lost their lives in a road accident that occurred in front of the Ilorin Airport along Ilorin-Eyenkorin road on Sunday.

According to Channels Television, the Sector Commander, FRSC Kwara sector command, Corps Commander Jonathan Owoade said the accident occurred at about 08:00 am, involving a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number AFN06YL and a Toyota Corolla saloon car marked LRN 787FE with 17 persons involved.

According to the report, the nine deceased persons were burnt beyond recognition and their bodies have been deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. Five men sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Ilorin General Hospital. Three other men inside the saloon car escape unhurt. The accident was caused by careless driving.

Abductors of Sokoto Councilor demand N60m ransom

According to Daily Trust, the bandits that kidnapped nine people a serving councilor of Yar Tsakuwa in Rabah LGA of Sokoto have called the families of the abductees, asking them to raise N60 million for a ransom.

According to the report, a resident who should not be mentioned for security reasons notified Daily Trust correspondent on this. It was gathered that the bandits invaded the village around midnight on Saturday and operated until 3 am.

They ransacked houses and shops, robbing locals of their belongings, motorcycles, foodstuff, and assorted drugs.

Soldiers rescue 8 kidnap victims in Benue

According to Daily Trust, the soldiers attached to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Benue State have rescued eight kidnapped victims.

The victims who were largely natives of Agasha, a rural town in Guma LGA of Benue, were rescued on Sunday after they were reportedly taken hostage by their captors while working on their farms last Wednesday.

According to the spokesman to the State Governor, Nathaniel Ikyur, the victims spent over three days with their abductors before they were released by the soldiers.

“There was an exchange of gunfire with the perpetrators but the soldiers with the superior firepower overwhelmed the kidnappers who fled in disarray leaving behind the kidnapped victims.

He listed those rescued as Philip Akpage, 56; Aondokula Ijah, 30; Mrs. Kwadoo Takada, 60; Mrs. Kwakuma Asongu, 55; Mrs. Agnes Ornguze, 54; Mrs. Yanguchan Tiv, 45; Mrs. Kwadoo Mtomga, 45; and Mrs. Mnembe Terlumum, 30. They have all been reunited with their families.
