“They Thought I’ll Be Irrelevant After Impeachment But Now Billionaires Listen To Me” Gachagua
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has said his political influence did not disappear after his impeachment, despite claims by his opponents that he would quickly become irrelevant.
Speaking to Kenyans living in Massachusetts on Friday, October 2, the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader reflected on his political journey since leaving office.
Gachagua said his critics had expected his removal from government to mark the end of his political career.
Instead, he claimed, he has continued travelling across the United States, where he has held meetings with Kenyans and engaged business executives.
He said he had also met millionaires and billionaires who were interested in hearing his views.
“The story of Rigathi Gachagua, after he was hounded out of office, is a story that will be told for many years,” he said.
The former Deputy President recalled claims that he would be forced into political oblivion after his impeachment and would have to retreat to his rural home in Wamunyoro.
Gachagua also referred to remarks he attributed to Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, saying the lawmaker had suggested that he would not even be able to address a village gathering after leaving office.
He argued that his reception in the United States had contradicted those expectations.
“There I am,” Gachagua said while describing the turnout at his meetings with Kenyans in different American states.
The DCP leader further claimed that his gatherings in Texas attracted more Kenyans than a meeting President William Ruto held in New York.
“My meetings in Texas were bigger than the one Ruto had in New York. I had more Kenyans,” he claimed.
Gachagua added that he had continued to draw large crowds during his engagements across the United States, suggesting that his political relevance had remained intact despite his removal from the Deputy President’s office.
