Wiper Confirms Working On A Deal To Bring President Ruto’s Close Ally Into The Party

Wiper Party National Chairman Jamleck Kamau has said the party is working to bring Johnson Muthama, a close ally of President William Ruto, to its side, and that more leaders will soon be joining the party’s journey.

Kamau made the remarks in a video shared by The Wiper Patriotic Front on X. He said Muthama is still in government, but that the party is working to ensure he comes to them. He added that it is not Muthama alone, and that Wiper will bring many more leaders on board.

The statement comes after a meeting held on Thursday that sparked widespread speculation. According to Kamau, party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Muthama, Mohamed Ali and Kiema Kilonzo, among others, attended.

A video of Muthama at a late-night meeting with Kalonzo had earlier gone viral, and he later described the discussions as a consultation on national issues. He did not announce any change in his political position.

Muthama is a commissioner at the Parliamentary Service Commission and a close ally of President Ruto. He played a major role in the formation of the UDA party and was a key campaigner for Ruto in Ukambani in 2022. He was once a Wiper member, which is why any sign of closeness between him and Kalonzo draws so much attention.

Kamau’s words are the clearest sign yet of how Wiper reads the meeting. The party appears to be treating it as the start of a push to win back leaders now in the government camp as the 2027 General Election approaches.

Supporters of Kalonzo will see this as momentum building in Ukambani. Government allies may argue that Muthama is still in government and that Wiper is speaking of intentions rather than commitments.

Muthama has not confirmed that he is joining Wiper, and Kamau himself acknowledged that he remains in government.

The coming weeks will show who the “many more leaders” are, and whether Muthama makes a public move.
