Cockatoo-inspired emblem to be officially unveiled on Monday

The Brisbane 2032 Olympics and Paralympics emblems have been accidentally leaked by the Games’ official YouTube channel, three days before its own big reveal.

Pieces of the puzzle had been revealed across Queensland over the past week with the full logos to come together during an official unveiling on Monday.

But the cockatoo-inspired emblem was shown in full on Friday when the Brisbane 2032 YouTube account briefly posted an “emblem explainer” video.

A screenshot of the logo was subsequently posted on Reddit, later being removed by Reddit’s legal operations team.

The Brisbane Olympic committee confirmed the logo to be accurate when approached by Guardian Australia, but did not provide further comment.

In a post on Instagram on Saturday morning, the committee posted the two logos in full stating: “Consider this your official reveal.”

“Inspired by our reef, beaches, hinterland, and everything in between, they bring together the places, people and spirit that will take us to 2032,” the post stated.

“Distinctive. Unmistakably Queensland. And just a little bit cheeky.”

The Queensland minister for the Olympics, Tim Mander, was grilled on the accidental leak on Nine’s Today Show on Saturday morning, where he downplayed the incident.

“I’m actually excited it’s finally out,” he said. We’ve spent the week right down the coast of Queensland, Cairns, Townsville and Rockhampton, the Sunshine Coast, and a day at the Gold Coast revealing the emblem piece by piece.

“And it’s finally out. We’re very excited about what we have finished up with.”

Today host Alison Piotrowski replied: “That’s one way to spin it.”

Mander said people would have theories about how it leaked – and whether it was deliberate – but he blamed people who were “so enthusiastic about looking for the emblem” they had been scanning the internet and discovered it.

“It’s appeared for a short time, and it’s out there.”

Mander said he believes Queenslanders and Australians more broadly will embrace the logo.

“They’re going to see it everywhere. It will be synonymous with Brisbane 2032 for decades and decades to come.”

The Monday launch will include the story behind the emblem, and animated vision, Mander said.

The 2032 Olympic Park Stadium is in the early construction phase in Brisbane. In August, the Queensland government released concept images in August of a parkland precinct around the stadium, designed to quell concerns about the loss of inner-city parkland.

Critics have described the plans as a “fantasy vision”.
