Chief Executive Officer of indigenous Oil Marketing Company (OMC) Star Oil, Kwame Tieku, has said the company remains one of the most disliked players in the petroleum industry because of its strong commitment to protecting consumer interests and promoting fair competition.
In a Facebook post on January 19, 2026, Tieku noted that the company’s pricing and market strategies, which prioritise affordability for customers, have drawn criticism and resistance from competitors.
“Always pray for us. We are the most disliked in our industry because of what we do for the customer!,” he said.

According to him, without Star Oil’s intervention in the market, competition would have been severely limited, potentially leading to higher fuel prices and reduced consumer choice.
“Without us, there would have been no serious competition at all,” he added.
Tieku also dismissed claims by some industry players that Star Oil is seeking to eliminate competitors and establish a monopoly, describing such accusations as unfounded.
“They claim we want to wipe them out and become a monopoly,” he stated.
He stressed that the company’s objective is to create a fair, transparent, and competitive fuel market that benefits the Ghanaian consumer.
Tieku reaffirmed the OMC’s commitment to innovation, competitive pricing, and ethical business practices, despite the alleged resistance it faces within the sector.
