ECP releases draft notification for Punjab union council polls

The ECP has released the local body election schedule in the form of a draft notification.
Polling for general seats in the Union Councils will be held on December 14. Nomination papers can be submitted from October 27 to October 30.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will take place from November 2 to November 3. The final list of candidates will be published on November 19.
Electoral symbols will be allotted to candidates on November 20. The deadline for withdrawing nomination papers has been set for November 18.
Returning Officers (ROs) will announce the results on December 17.
On the other hand, the Punjab Election Commission has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Punjab, proposing to hold local body elections between December 15 and January 15.
The Provincial Election Commission has also decided to seek input from the Punjab government regarding the local body election schedule.
The Commission has requested immediate feedback from the Punjab government on the timeline for the local body elections.

Additionally, the Election Commission has prepared a draft schedule outlining various electoral activities for conducting the local body elections.
The Provincial Election Commission will issue the final election schedule to ensure the timely holding of local body elections in the province.
Meanwhile, consultations between the Election Commission and the Punjab government regarding the elections are ongoing.
