Sifuna Reacts With a Sarcastic Message After Ruto Branded Him “Mr Empty” As 2027 Polls Gain Momentum

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has hit back at President William Ruto with a sarcastic response after the Head of State referred to him as “Mr. Empty” during a political tour of the coastal region.

The verbal clash follows Sifuna’s continued calls for the government to make public all agreements, contracts and commitments associated with the multi-trillion-shilling Dangote Lamu oil refinery project.

Rather than directly responding to the documents and agreements Sifuna has demanded, President Ruto has accused the opposition politician of working with external interests to pressure foreign investors and frustrate development projects.

Sifuna responded on social media by turning the President’s remarks into a subject of ridicule, questioning whether politicians were now expected to debate policies and ideas or simply exchange personal attacks as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.

The Nairobi Senator also appeared to suggest that the “Mr. Empty” label could be a reflection of the government’s own political difficulties and the growing number of questions surrounding its governance record.

The exchange has attracted significant attention, adding another layer to the increasingly heated relationship between the administration and opposition figures.

The confrontation also reflects how political debate in Kenya has increasingly shifted toward the 2027 election, with both sides sharpening their attacks and positioning themselves ahead of the polls.

While Ruto has dismissed opposition criticism as political grandstanding and an attempt to undermine investment, Sifuna has insisted that demanding transparency over major public and private-sector investments is part of Parliament’s constitutional oversight role.

As the 2027 political contest gathers momentum, the growing war of words between the President and the Nairobi Senator is highlighting broader disputes over government accountability, public confidence, transparency and foreign investment.
