Muhoozi Disputes Besigye’s Role As Museveni’s Doctor: ‘He Never, Ever Treated Mzee’
Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has disputed the long-reported account that opposition figure Dr Kizza Besigye treated President Yoweri Museveni during the National Resistance Army bush war.
In a statement on September 15, 2026, Muhoozi said Besigye “never, ever treated Mzee,” insisting that his father was instead treated by the late Dr Ronald Bata.
The remarks challenge accounts that have described Besigye, who served as a military doctor during the NRA period, as Museveni’s personal physician.
Historical reporting has also documented Dr Bata’s role in the NRA medical team and his treatment of Museveni during the bush war.
Muhoozi did not provide details about the specific circumstances or period in which he said Dr Bata treated his father.
His comments come amid renewed public attention on Besigye, a former presidential candidate and long-time opposition figure who has remained involved in legal proceedings.
