Chevy Camaro Makes One Last Appearance as a CHP Cruiser

Based on the Camaro SS 1LE, the police cruiser keeps several pieces of performance hardware associated with the production model. Under the hood is Chevrolet’s naturally aspirated 6.2-liter LT1 V8, producing 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The car is also reportedly fitted with a 10-speed automatic transmission, according to GM Authority.
The Camaro has been modified for police duty with the equipment needed for patrol operations. It wears the CHP’s traditional black-and-white color scheme, featuring white doors against a predominantly black body. A large Highway Patrol graphic and the CHP star badge appear on the doors, while the agency’s ‘Safety, Service, and Security’ motto runs along the rear quarter panel.

Several antennas are also visible on the vehicle. The performance-oriented appearance is retained with black-finished five-spoke wheels and bright red brake calipers.
The arrival of this Camaro is particularly notable because the sixth-generation model is no longer in production. GM ended production of the sixth-generation Camaro late in 2023 for the 2024 model year. That generation originally debuted for the 2016 model year.

However, the Camaro name may not remain absent from Chevrolet’s lineup indefinitely. Reports suggest that GM has approved a next-generation Camaro. The upcoming model is expected to use an updated version of GM’s rear-wheel-drive Alpha 2 architecture while retaining an internal-combustion engine, a front-engine configuration, and rear-wheel drive. A manual transmission is also expected to remain available.
The biggest change could be the Camaro’s body style. Rather than continuing with the traditional two-door coupe and convertible configurations, the next-generation model is expected to adopt a four-door layout with midsize proportions.
For now, though, this final CHP Camaro gives the outgoing generation another opportunity to serve in an official role before the nameplate potentially returns in a substantially different form.
