Prepare For Very Heavy Rainfall If You Live In The Following Areas Today
Residents in six Kenyan counties have been advised to prepare for wet conditions today, Thursday, October 1, following the latest weather forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The affected counties are Mombasa, Lamu, Kwale, Kilifi, Busia and Bungoma, where light showers are expected during the forecast period.
Kenya Met issued the daily weather bulletin on Wednesday, September 30, covering conditions from 9:00 pm that evening until 9:00 pm on Thursday.
Unlike the six counties expected to receive rainfall, most other parts of the country are forecast to experience sunny intervals during the day.
Along the Coast, Mombasa, Lamu, Kwale and Kilifi are expected to experience light showers. In western Kenya, similar conditions are forecast in Busia and Bungoma.
Residents in some northern counties should also take note of strong winds. Turkana, Samburu, Marsabit and Isiolo are expected to experience southerly to southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots, equivalent to about 12.5 metres per second, at certain points during the forecast period.
In Nairobi, temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 28°C and fall to a minimum of 13°C. The capital is forecast to have partly cloudy conditions in the morning before sunny intervals develop later in the day.
Kisumu is expected to record one of the highest temperatures among the listed areas, with a maximum of 32°C and a minimum of 20°C.
Siaya is forecast to reach 31°C, with light showers or thunderstorms possible in the evening, while Migori could also record a maximum of 31°C.
In the Rift Valley, Nakuru, Kajiado and Kericho are expected to record daytime temperatures of between 25°C and 27°C, with nighttime temperatures falling to between 11°C and 13°C. Narok is forecast to reach 28°C.
Kakamega and Bungoma could record highs of about 29°C, while Busia is expected to reach 30°C. Light showers or thunderstorms are possible in Busia and Bungoma later in the day.
Further south, Bomet is forecast to reach 27°C, while Kisii and Nyamira could record 28°C. Homa Bay is expected to reach 30°C.
According to the forecast, many areas in the south Rift and Nyanza will experience partly cloudy mornings followed by sunny intervals in the afternoon.
The latest bulletin therefore points to a largely sunny day across the country, with rainfall concentrated mainly in the six counties identified by Kenya Met and strong winds expected in parts of northern Kenya.
