Beauty And Trust Make My Customers Believe In Me – Olamide
Ayeni Abigael Olamide, founder of “Glambyrinsola”, believes beauty goes beyond makeup. Driven by a passion for enhancing women’s beauty, she has grown her business since 2019 through creativity, client trust and continuous improvement. In this interview with TEMILADE ONITIRI, she speaks on the challenges of running a makeup business, the importance of publicity and social media, and why passion should come before profit when starting a business. Excerpts:
Can you tell me about your business and what inspired you to start it?
My company is called Glambyrinsola. It is about enhancing women’s beauty and helping them feel truly beautiful. What inspired me to start the business was my passion for making women feel more beautiful through the use of beauty products.
I am a makeup artist. My business is about doing makeup for women, using a variety of products.
How long have you been running the business?
I have been running my business since 2019, so that is about seven years now.
What challenges do you face in running your business?
Sometimes, there are slow days, and there are also good days. There is one particular thing I usually say: “No Makeup Day.” I call it a “No Makeup Day” because it feels like a bad day, but I won’t call it a bad day because there are no bad days in my business.
Finances are also one of the challenges I face. Sometimes, you run out of products and do not have enough money to restock. It can be really overwhelming. There are also days when I am fully booked, and I barely have time to rest or take a break.
How do you attract new customers and keep existing ones?
What I do to attract new customers is let my art speak for me. My art speaks for me, and my old clients keep coming back because of the trust I have built with them. Building trust makes my customers believe in me and trust me with their faces. If I don’t allow my clients to trust me, they won’t come back, and they also won’t be able to refer me to new clients. So, building that relationship and trust with my clients is very important to my business.
What is the biggest achievement you have had since starting the business?
I have a lot of achievements that I can’t even mention. But one of the greatest achievements I have had is growth. The growth has been really great, and I am grateful for how far the business has come.
How do you manage competition from other businesses?
I just keep doing me without minding what other people are saying or doing in their businesses. I focus on learning more and knowing more about the business. So, I don’t really think there is competition because the sky is big enough for birds to fly.
How important is publicity to your business?
I would say publicity is very important because what is a business without publicity? If you keep running a business without publicising yourself, you won’t be able to get more clients.
So, I would say publicity is a key factor in business because it helps people know about what you do and can help you reach more customers.
How has social media helped your business?
Social media has helped me a lot. Even though I am not consistent on social media, it has still helped my business in many ways. It has helped me learn more through short tutorials, publicise my business, and sell my products. Social media has allowed me to learn new things while also making people more aware of my work.
What advice would you give to other young people who want to start a business?
Just be yourself, follow your mind, and do what works best for you. Do not pressurise yourself, and do what you truly have passion for because if you have passion for the business, it will grow. Do not just jump into a business because people are saying there is money in it. If you do not have passion for it, money will not come. Find something you genuinely have an interest in, be patient with yourself, and focus on building something that works for you.
