KAMPALA — The sudden death of prominent businesswoman Gloria Turyamureeba has left family, friends and associates grappling with questions over the financial pressure she was reportedly facing in the days before her death.

Turyamureeba, a mother of two, was found dead in a bathroom in what has been described by people close to the family as a tragedy that followed mounting financial stress. Sources say she had been under intense pressure after a top city moneylender allegedly seized some of her belongings over an outstanding debt.

The developments reportedly deeply affected the businesswoman, who had built a career spanning travel, tourism, upholstery and high-end carpets.

Turyamureeba was the Chief Executive Officer of Footprints Safaris Ltd.

She was also the Managing Director of C & S Upholstery Ltd, a position she had held since 1998.

Her business interests included travel consultancy and the sale of what associates described as top-notch carpets and upholstery products.

Those who knew her professionally remember a woman who had spent decades building businesses and establishing herself in Kampala’s corporate and entrepreneurial circles.

But behind the successful businesswoman was reportedly a mounting financial burden that family and friends are now struggling to understand.

People close to the matter say the alleged seizure of her property by the moneylender added to her distress, although the full circumstances surrounding the debt and the events leading to her death remain unclear.

Her death has left behind two children, deepening the pain for the family.

But her tragic death comes against the backdrop of another disturbing moneylender-related incident in Nansana, raising fresh concerns about the pressure borrowers can face when debts spiral out of control.
