Last Hours Of Moses Matovu Reconstructed As Rose Tumusiime And Security Guard Boyfriend Return To Crime Scene

The final movements of legendary Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu have come under fresh scrutiny as police and military detectives reconstructed the events leading to his death in Kibuli, Kampala. The exercise was conducted on Saturday as investigators retraced the musician’s movements together with suspects Vincent Nsamba and Rose Tumusiime.

The reconstruction began at Rujumbura Bar, where Matovu and Tumusiime are reported to have spent part of the night. Detectives then proceeded with the suspects to Tumusiime’s rented residence in Market Zone B before moving to the area where Matovu’s Land Rover, registration number UAR 982H, was found and where the fatal confrontation allegedly took place.

At the alleged crime scene, Tumusiime, 26, reportedly demonstrated to detectives how the confrontation unfolded and how Matovu allegedly fell onto the pavement after being struck. Investigators recorded the exercise through written statements and video as they compared the suspects’ accounts with evidence gathered from the scene.

Nsamba, 41, also known as Arnold, was also taken through the reconstruction as detectives sought to establish his movements on the night of the incident. Investigators reportedly wanted to determine whether he was at the scene and what role, if any, he may have played in the confrontation.

A police officer explained that crime-scene reconstruction allows investigators to test statements given by suspects against physical evidence. Detectives can examine the distances, movements and positions involved to determine whether the different accounts are consistent with what was found at the scene.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Kawala also said similar reconstruction exercises had been carried out in Nansana as investigations continued. The Kibuli exercise was reportedly led by senior detectives, including Kampala Metropolitan Police CID Commander Milton Birungi Beigumamu and CID Kampala South Regional Commander Arthur Twiinamatsiko.

It lasted more than two hours before the suspects were returned to Natete Police Station. Meanwhile, Kibuli residents and local leaders said Nsamba was known to Matovu, with LC1 Chairperson Abdul Nasser Mukasa claiming that he had previously worked casually for the musician, helping load Afrigo Band equipment.

Police said Matovu, 77, had attended a farewell event at Sheraton Gardens before going to Rujumbura Bar and later visiting Tumusiime’s room in the early hours of September 24, 2026. It is alleged that Nsamba later arrived at the room, smashed a window after receiving no response and subsequently confronted the pair as they walked towards Matovu’s vehicle.
