Skeem Saam pupil Mosebjadi finds herself caught up in complicated feelings for her teacher.
Actress Zizo Sobutyu says bringing the controversial storyline to life hasnât been easy.
The 20-year-old star, who plays Mosebjadi, has watched her character transform from the insecure girl viewers first met into a more confident young woman whoâs no longer afraid of making her own decisions.
âSheâs grown a lot. The Mosebjadi we first met was quite insecure and unsure of herself, and now sheâs more confident and willing to make her own decisions,â she said.
But thereâs a catch. Confidence doesnât always mean making the right choices.
âBeing confident doesnât mean youâre always going to make the right choices. Sometimes, you have to make mistakes in order to learn, and Mosebjadi is definitely learning some things the hard way,â she said.
The actress said she had to put her own feelings aside when preparing for scenes involving Mosebjadiâs feelings for someone in a position of authority.
âI had to separate Zizo from Mosebjadi. I canât sit there judging her while playing her, because then emotions wonât feel real,â she said.
Instead, she tried to understand what was going on in the characterâs head.
âI had to understand why she feels the way she does and what sheâs looking for emotionally.
âFor Mosebjadi, these feelings are real, although she might not fully understand what they mean or where they could lead,â she said.
Zizo believes Mosebjadi is still figuring herself out.

âSheâs at that stage where you feel like you know yourself and you know what you want, but youâre also still learning,â she said.
The storyline has also forced Zizo to think about the importance of confidence and belonging among young women.
âMosebjadi has taught me that confidence isnât something you wake up with one day. Itâs something you build slowly,â she said.
And viewers have certainly had plenty to say.
âSometimes, I need to put my phone down because people are serious about Mosebjadi,â said Zizo.
As for what lies ahead, sheâs keeping her lips sealed but warns that Mosebjadi should watch her step.
âLetâs just say… Mosebjadi needs to think twice.â
If Zizo could give her character one piece of advice?
âGirl… THINK! Donât lose yourself because you want someoneâs attention or validation. Youâve worked so hard to become this confident girl, so donât throw all of that away now,â she said.
