Punjab govt approves extended Basant with one-day break for Kashmir Day

Lahore is set for an extended Basant celebration as the Punjab government has approved a 10-day festival to welcome the arrival of the new year, 2027. The festivities will run from January 29 to February 7, with a break on February 5 for Kashmir Day.

The Punjab government has approved a 10-day Basant festival for the residents of Lahore, reviving the city’s traditional kite-flying celebrations on an extended scale.

According to the announced schedule, Basant festivities will begin on January 29, 2027, and continue through February 7. The instructions have been issued to provide Lahore residents with a 10-day celebration marking the arrival of the new year.

The announcement comes after Basant returned to Lahore earlier this year following a 25-year hiatus.

The festival was previously held in Lahore from February 6 to 8, marking the revival of a celebration long associated with the city’s cultural identity and spring festivities.

The latest decision will give residents a much longer period to take part in Basant celebrations in 2027.

Although the festival will span 10 days, celebrations will observe a one-day break on February 5. The pause has been scheduled to mark Kashmir Day, after which the Basant festivities will continue through February 7.

The extended schedule is expected to bring Basant activities back into the spotlight across Lahore as the city prepares to welcome 2027 with a major cultural celebration.
