ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga has reportedly been advised by his doctors in the United Kingdom to reduce his involvement in active politics and avoid demanding engagements as he focuses on his health.

Oburu travelled to the UK for medical attention after reportedly being advised to undergo further assessment, rest and allow himself time to recover. He has since stayed away from the centre of political activities, prompting discussions about his health and his next steps.

The development comes at an important time for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which is considering its political direction ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Oburu has previously maintained that ODM has strong structures capable of running the party even when he is not directly involved in its daily operations.

During his medical trip, the ODM leader said his temporary absence from active party activities should not affect the movement’s operations. He pointed to Deputy Party Leaders Paul Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, together with the party’s national organs, as capable of overseeing the party’s activities.
