Bad News as New Details Emerge from the UK on Oburu’s Health Condition

ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga is taking a step back from active political engagements as he continues to receive medical attention in the United Kingdom.

The development comes amid growing public interest in the veteran politician’s health after he travelled to the UK for medical assessment. Oburu had earlier confirmed that his trip followed advice from his doctors and the ODM leadership, describing the visit as an opportunity to undergo a comprehensive medical check-up while also taking time to rest and rejuvenate.

Reports indicate that doctors have advised him to reduce intensive political engagements as he concentrates on his recovery and medical assessments. His family has also indicated that his condition has improved, although he remains in the UK as doctors continue with their evaluation before determining when he can return to Kenya.

The development has temporarily reduced Oburu’s direct involvement in ODM affairs at a time when the party is navigating important political discussions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

When he announced his medical trip, Oburu reassured ODM members that the party had strong structures capable of operating in his absence. He pointed to Deputy Party Leaders Paul Simba Arati and Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, alongside the National Central Committee and the party secretariat, as key officials responsible for ensuring the party’s operations continue.

The Siaya Senator has previously urged Kenyans not to panic over his medical check-ups, maintaining that he would communicate openly about his condition if there were serious concerns.

His latest decision to reduce political engagements is therefore being viewed in the context of his doctors’ advice and the need to give him adequate time for rest and recovery.
