Nairobi: What A Maid Was Secretly Captured Doing On CCTV, Leaving Her Boss Shòcked

A newly hired househelp in Nairobi has unexpectedly become the centre of attention online after a hidden CCTV camera reportedly captured her enjoying herself inside her employer’s living room while she was alone in the house.

The footage, which was shared on Instagram by the homeowner, shows the young woman moving around the room with her phone in her hand. At one point, she is seen sitting on top of the household’s Wi-Fi router before climbing onto the sofas.

She then moves across the cushions while dancing lightly before stepping down from the furniture. Moments later, she breaks into another brief dance, appearing relaxed and completely unaware that her actions were being recorded.

The homeowner’s caption suggested that the househelp did not know there was a camera inside the house. The video quickly attracted widespread attention, generating thousands of views and numerous comments from social media users amused by what they had seen.

Rather than condemning the woman, however, many viewers appeared to sympathise with her. Several commenters described her actions as harmless and interpreted the footage as showing someone simply enjoying a private moment while carrying out her responsibilities.

One user said the only thing visible in the video was a happy person and saw nothing wrong with her behaviour. Another jokingly suggested that she could have been excited about a new romantic relationship. A third commenter humorously imagined that she might have been speaking to her boyfriend, whom the user jokingly described as a boda boda rider, about their future together.

The reactions have also revived discussions about the treatment of domestic workers and the use of surveillance cameras in private homes. Domestic workers frequently spend long periods working alone, and some social media users argued that taking a brief moment to dance or relax should not automatically be considered misconduct.
