Investigators allege Nomvula lured Nkosi, 31, to a secluded parking area near Rabie Ridge Mall on the evening of Tuesday, 15 July 2025, under the pretence of settling an outstanding R4 200 debt. Her boyfriend, Thabo Mokoena, 27, allegedly waited in darkness nearby, armed with a blunt instrument. Nkosi allegedly suffered multiple blows to the head before Mokoena allegedly seized the dealer’s merchandise — a bag containing eight smartphones valued at approximately R56 000 — and fled.

Capture came swiftly. Tembisa SAPS members arrested Mokoena within 48 hours after surveillance footage from a nearby filling station captured his vehicle registration clearly. Nomvula was taken into custody the following afternoon at her mother’s Ivory Park home. Provincial spokesperson Captain Refiloe Sithole confirmed both suspects faced charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and conspiracy. They stood before Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 18 July, where bail was formally denied.

Neighbours described Nomvula as outgoing, helpful, and perpetually cheerful — the type who remembered every birthday. Mokoena reportedly ran a small car-wash operation in Clayville and projected a hardworking image among friends. Community members told this publication that Nkosi had extended Nomvula generous credit over several weeks, viewing her as a loyal, trustworthy customer rather than a calculated threat.

Nkosi’s grieving mother, Thankiwe, clutched a framed school portrait of her child outside the magistrate’s building on Friday morning — her knuckles white, her jaw set tight. She refused journalists’ questions but pressed that photograph against her chest with a fierceness that communicated everything words could not.

The matter was remanded to 12 August 2025 for further investigation, with prosecutors indicating digital evidence extracted from recovered devices would prove central.
