Martha Karua’s Parents’ Kirinyaga Home Draws Attention After Father’s Death

The family home of People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua in Kirinyaga has attracted public attention following the death of her father, Mwalimu Jackson Karua.

Mwalimu Jackson died on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at the family home in Kirinyaga County. His death has brought renewed focus to the property, which Karua is reported to have built for her parents as a family residence.

Images shared from previous family occasions provide a glimpse of the two-storey stone house. The property features brownish-grey masonry, white-framed windows and a neatly finished roof. A blue wooden entrance door with glass panels forms part of the front section, while another area opens onto a small porch fitted with a black metal railing.

The compound also appears carefully maintained, with trimmed hedges, trees and other greenery surrounding the house. A low stone retaining wall runs along part of the property, adding to the home’s simple but well-kept appearance.

The home has now become significant in the family’s mourning period because it was where Mwalimu Jackson spent his final moments.

Karua revealed that she had travelled to Kirinyaga earlier on Sunday together with her siblings to spend time with their father. During the visit, the family sang his favourite gospel hymn, unaware that it would be their final time together. Karua later received news of his death while travelling back to Nairobi.

In her tribute, Karua remembered her father as a principled teacher and a consistent source of encouragement throughout her life. She said he supported her from her school days through her legal career and public service.

The death has prompted messages of condolence from political leaders and other Kenyans, with many remembering Mwalimu Jackson for his work as an educator and his role as a father and mentor.
